FIRE BURNING

Feeling Zuko's legs on either side of his body shouldn't have left him feeling as hot and bothered as it did right then and there especially since both boys were awkward about the whole thing as the other, trying not to think about anything lewd enough to give him a hard on, he decided he'd make some small talk with the firebender who tried desperately not to make any more physical contact between them.

"So," Jet began awkwardly, he'd never felt like a child as much as he did now – between the firebender's legs, swallowing at the thought, the tan boy continued, "How uh – how did you get those uh wounds on your back?"

"Why do you care?" Zuko replied as prickly as ever,

"It's something to talk about." Jet murmured trying to ignore the way Zuko's body rumbled with each word he spoke.

As Zuko sighed Jet tried to not visibly react to the feeling of the firebender's warm breath rushing past his ear, hoping Zuko wouldn't notice the beating of his heart beginning to beat a little faster, and if he did, he hoped the guy would chalk it up to the exercise he was getting from carrying him and wandering around the maze.

"Well," Zuko began, "While you were still out they had come back and told me my – Ozai, wanted to see me."

"What did he want?"

"Mostly to yell at me and tell me what a disgrace I am." Zuko answered bitterly.

"Your family sucks." Jet snorted before he could stop himself,

"You don't say." Zuko sneered, just the barest hint of amusement in his acidic tone.

Jet grinned at that even if the golden eyed teen couldn't see it, he continued walking in an almost comfortable silence.

"My uncle isn't as bad as them." Zuko spoke.

"I hope not."

"He's the opposite of everything my father is."

"That's a good thing, right?"

"Yeah – I guess it's nice to know you have someone who cares about you."

Jet fell silent, "You're lucky you know."

"How so?"

"I mean sure, your father's a major ass and pretty shit at being a dad but you got an uncle who cares about you like a father should and – what about your mom? You never really said anything about her."

Jet felt Zuko tense, his fingers digging in to his shoulder.

"She wasn't anything like my father, but I don't want to talk about her."

"Now that I think about it," Jet began, breezing past the subject, "I don't really remember my parents all that well, I know I had parents but now they're just kind of – fuzzy."

"Don't you have a picture of them or something?"

"No." Jet frowned, the familiar hate building up in his chest, "I lost everything in that fire, my family, our possessions, and anything that could have served as a keepsake. It was all ash when I got there and everyone was just standing around staring and taking pictures as the firemen did their job. Don't know what the point was then since everything was already gone."

Jet was too wrapped up in his memories and emotions that he hadn't realized Zuko had pressed close so their bodies were placed together perfectly, arms wrapped around him, his head resting on his shoulder, until the firebender spoke, his words ghosting past his ear breaking through the dark of his past.

"I know it isn't much coming from me of all people but - ," Zuko shifted awkwardly, "I 'm sorry all those things happened to you."

The tanned boy swallowed hard, he wanted to argue with the firebender but somehow he found himself holding back, simply taking comfort in his presence – Jet nudged Zuko's head with his own and muttered a quiet thanks and continued walking in a semi-comfortable silence. A sigh captured Jet's attention, he shifted his hold on Zuko.

"What is it?"

"My – wounds are bothering me is all." Zuko muttered.

"We could stop."

"And what?" Zuko snorted, "In case you forgot, we're trapped in some underground maze with no supplies once so ever."

"Well - ," Jet frowned, "We have the clothes on our back and you can bend fire."

"Great."

Rolling his eyes at the teen's dour mood, Jet stopped near an intersection and knelt so Zuko could safely get off his back without agitating his wounds any further. Turning to face the firebender sitting with his back rigid, Jet tilted his head to the side – it was somewhat hard to see the other teen in what little lighting was available but Jet could properly make out the scar that fanned over Zuko's left eye, following the line of the scar, Jet's eyes traveled to the downturned lips. Blinking, the rebel turned his attention to the firebender's bright eyes.

"Jet?"

"Wha - ?"

"Did you hear me?"

"Uh n – no, not really."

Jet's attention was drawn back to Zuko's lips as they moved, licking his own, he reached a hand out to cup Zuko's chin causing the yellow eyed teen to still. Swiping his thumb over Zuko's bottom lip, Jet slid his hand upwards to cup the frozen male's cheek. Their eyes meeting, allowing Jet to see the confusion and distrust the other felt – he kept the contact as he leaned forward, it was when they were nose to nose with one another that Zuko finally spoke.

"What are you doing?"

"I don't know." Jet admitted quietly, his breath caressing Zuko's mouth, "I'm just – trying something new."

Zuko inhaled to snap a retort when Jet pressed their lips together, the latter stilling as Jet closed his eyes. It was – simple, chaste, so soft and sweet. It was entirely different than what Jet was used to and while it wasn't anything worth getting riled up over, it still awoke something within Jet. Pulling away with a shaky breath, swallowing the odd swelling within his throat.

He met Zuko's eyes, the latter remained neutral, unsure of how to react. He wasn't blushing but he wasn't angry either.

Turning away from Zuko's gaze, Jet coughed into his hand.

"Uh – maybe we should stay here for a while."

"Maybe."

OH NO! WHY DIDN'T ZUKO REACT!?
