Hey guys sorry for not updating in such a long time I understand how frustrating that can be but I was going through my computer and some of the fanfiction I had lying around and realized I hadn't really touched this in….a while..sorry about that once again. Anyway I don't want to leave this unfinished, I don't even know if anyone is reading this anymore but if you do please leave me a review to let me know what you think, I would like to think that my writing has improved a little bit, but meh. Also I read through some of the last couple of chapters and I do apologize for the out of characterness at some points, I kind of cringed haha. Whenever I read stuff from ages ago I'm just like….ugh why past Alex, why did you write this? Anyways, on with the story.
Rick groaned as he sat up, he looked around the room he was in, he never got a good enough look of it yesterday, the paint was peeling nearly everything was broken. Rick smiled as he remembered the kiss he had shared with Daryl.
Suddenly he felt terrible, he lurched forward as his stomach emptied itself onto the bloodied carpet.
"Ugh" Rick let out a verbal complaint.
"Rick?" Beth poked her head in the doorway, she was outside.
Rick looked up at her and smiled.
She made her way inside, noticed he had vomited and sat down next to him.
"You poor thing, here you go" She passed him a bottle of water, Rick eagerly drank what was left.
"Thanks, I feel better"
She gestured to his chest.
"How's your ribs?" it was a dumb question she knew, but if there was anything her or Daryl could do…
He smiled at her and exhaled loudly as he spoke.
"My ribs hurt, badly"
She nodded, feeling sad.
"They'll get better" He paused before speaking again.
"Now help me up"
Beth nodded and slowly stood up after he put his arm around her, he was quite heavy for her but he seemed to just want to go outside and it wasn't that far, Rick did a good job of supporting most of his weight.
"There you…go," She groaned as she sat him on one of the seats on the porch.
He nodded thanking her; she sat down next to him on another couch.
Beth immediately stood as she heard some rustling in the bushes nearby.
She sighed with relief as they both realized that it was Daryl.
Rick smiled; Daryl had managed to find some food, thank God.
"You found food!" Beth exclaimed.
"You bet ya ass I did"
Beth took the cans from him and quickly hurried inside, presumably to open them.
"Hey Rick" Daryl and Rick exchanged smiles.
"I'm glad you're safe"
Daryl sat in front of Rick, facing him.
"What you talking bout? Have you seen what you look like?" He laughed.
Rick chuckled, coughing slightly.
"Reckon I look like shit then?" He smiled.
"Somewhat, but you still look like you"
They held their gaze for a moment, appreciating the silence…well the almost silence.
"Here you go fellas"
Beth passed them each a can of beans and some old looking spoons.
"Thanks"
Daryl and Beth ate their meals pretty quickly, they were very hungry, Rick ate slowly, in hopes that he wouldn't vomit it all back up again.
Everything was quiet until Rick started sobbing, everything that had happened in the last couple of days started to come out in pure emotion. He didn't mean to be this way, Rick thought that he must be annoying the hell out of his company but he needed to let it out.
Daryl placed a hand on his back and rubbed slowly, attempting to comfort him.
"Carl…..Judith….." Rick kept repeating their names as he cried.
"Rick listen, it'll be-
"No!" Rick interrupted Beth angrily.
"Please….don't ever say that again…not until I find them"
Beth nodded in understanding before making her way inside, taking their empty cans with them.
"I'm sorry" Daryl said simply, he kissed Rick on the cheek before helping him inside. Rick felt closer to another human, in the way that he had been close to Lori, it made him a little sad. He was happy, but he knew what happened when you cared about people, he had seen it happen way too many times to count.
Finding what was left of his family was all that mattered right now, and he didn't just mean Carl and Judith, But Michonne, Carol, Glenn, Maggie, Tyreese, they were all his family too.
Beth watched as Daryl brought Rick inside, she liked how Daryl had become a little kinder since everything that had happened with him and Rick.
…
2 days later
"Rick?" Beth grinned.
Daryl laughed.
"This'll be good"
"Alright, alright, give me a minute"
Rick thought for a moment, leaving Daryl and Beth both in anticipation.
"It was about two years before the outbreak"
They smiled at him, waiting for him to continue.
"I was arriving at the station after arresting a group kids who were causing some sort of public disturbance, I can't remember what it was exactly. But I went into the changing rooms"
A nice looking blush welcomed Daryl's neck and face.
"And Shane"
Rick frowned, remembering his once best friend…as he was.
"Shane he was, he shouldn't have been doing this….he was with a woman"
"Wait you mean they were?" Beth trailed off, a little embarrassed.
"Yeah they were" Rick laughed at the memory.
"It was quite a sight, I don't know if he just didn't expect anyone not to come in but, oh my god"
Daryl and Beth both laughed.
"I walked in and, well I didn't see everything exactly but I could certainly hear them and as soon as Shane and this woman saw me they both hid behind something and were getting any item of clothing on they could find!"
"What did you say to him?" Daryl asked curious.
Rick shrugged.
"I think at the time I was too stunned to say anything, I just got the hell out of there and we didn't speak about it for a week"
"He promised not to do it again as long as I promised not to speak of it to anyone"
They all laughed.
"Guess I broke my promise" Rick said sadly.
Beth and Daryl glanced at each other, unsure as to how to broach the subject.
"But, he broke some promises and…well I don't know, doesn't matter now I guess"
"Soooo?"
Beth nudged Daryl's arm.
Beth continued, excited.
"What?"
"Embarrassing memory, go" She challenged him.
Daryl exhaled loudly, unsure.
"I caught my brother touching himself when we were teenagers does that count"
It was a little unexpected and Beth snorted. Daryl and Rick laughed at her reaction.
"What about you then?" Rick asked her.
"Maggie once caught me dancing around the house in my underwear because I thought no one was home"
Daryl sighed.
"What?"
"Ya got to have something better than that"
"I honestly can't think of anything" she laughed.
"Alright, fine"
…...
3 days later (Beth's POV)
The days went on like this, Rick slowly recovered with Beth tending to him every few hours and Daryl leaving the house to go and find food. But as comfy as they were getting, Beth knew that it needed to stop, they had to leave and go find the others.
"Rick?"
Beth walked out into the main living room and couldn't see Rick anywhere. Where the hell is he?
"Rick?" She called a little louder, still nothing. She was starting to get paranoid.
Beth walked outside and looked around the house, neither Rick nor Daryl was anywhere to be found.
"Guys come on this isn't funny!" They wouldn't leave without telling me where they were going
Beth went back inside the house walking briskly through every room. She repeated this several times, even though she knew that it wasn't doing any good.
Rick's injured, he's getting better but if he's not with Daryl…
"Ahhh" Beth screamed as she came into contact with a body, a walker had made its way into the house. It was missing an eye and half of its jaw was hanging from it's mouth, darkened blood staining it's clothing.
"Guuurrrrgh!" it charged at Beth, leaving disgusting, foul groans and blood in its path.
Beth walked briskly backwards, tripping over something and landing flat on her rear end.
"Oh!" she yelped as she fell. The walker landed on top of her, she kept pushing at its shoulders in an attempt to get it off.
"Help!" she screamed, maybe by some miracle somebody would hear her. She glanced down at her feet, still struggling to keep the creature off of her.
She had a knife stashed in one of her boots, if only she could reach it.
"Ehh!" a horrible squelching noise met her ears at the same time a large amount of goo like blood decided to cascade onto her chest. She immediately shoved the thing off of her once it had stilled. Beth quickly made her way to feet, panting and frantically wiping her shirt. She looked up to see Daryl holding a bloodied knife in his hands.
"Thanks…"
"Was nothing"
Daryl looked around the room for a moment, inspecting it.
"Where's Rick?"
"I.."
Daryl's facial expression turned slightly panicked.
"Beth?"
"I was looking for him I-"
"Do you know where he is?" He asked more panicked this time.
"No! I was looking for him…this thing! Attacked me and then you saved me"
Suddenly Daryl's knife clattered to the ground, Rick was leaning against the door, a rabbit in his hands with blood covering his hands.
"Hey" He said simply.
"Where the hell were you?" Beth demanded.
"Sorry" He apologized.
"You didn't answer my question"
Daryl and Beth continued to stare at him, he limped inside, handing the rabbit to Daryl who took it without question.
Rick laid himself on the couch, covering his eyes with his hands. He breathed in and out deeply.
"There were walkers"
Beth and Daryl sat down.
"There was a bunch of walkers and Beth you were" He paused.
"Well it was early and you were asleep, I was awake so I thought I'd"
"So you got rid of them then?"
"Yeah, there was only three but it was still…"He exhaled loudly so they would understand.
"Why didn't you come back?" it was midday.
"I had to lure them away first, I think there was more, but once I killed them there was a couple more…"
Daryl and Beth nodded in understanding that must have been crap.
"But hey" He said smiling under his hands.
"At least I got that rabbit, reckon you'd be proud Daryl"
Beth laughed, Daryl smiled down at him, he was proud.
