A Colorful Character: The Scion of Legend Ch. 4
As if on cue, Cynthia came walking towards her three friends in the forest. She took one look around and noticed the amount of destruction that lay in their wake.
"Whoa whoa whoa," Cynthia shouted. "What in the world happened here?! Was there some kind of battle going on? Is the enemy still around here? I'll go get my Pegasus!" Cynthia was about to run off when Morgan stopped her.
"Don't worry Cynthia, there's no danger! Nah was just going on a rampage," the tactician said as he gestured towards their manakete friend.
Cynthia's jaw dropped in surprise. "What? A rampage?" The Pegasus knight ran over to Nah and started shaking her shoulders. "Why have you done this? Is it because I asked if I could ride on your back earlier? If it is, I'm sorry! Just please don't join the side of evil! Waaaah!"
By this point, Nah was fed up with the antics of the people around her. She pushed off the wailing pig tailed girl and started walking towards camp.
"Hey, wait," Cynthia called out. "Nah, where are you going?"
"I'm heading back to camp!"
"But what about joining our crew?" Morgan asked.
"Not interested."
"What? You were gonna join?" Cynthia asked excitedly.
"Not anymore!"
"Awww, why not?" Owain whined sadly. "Is it because you don't want Cynthia or me to stand on your back? I promise we won't do it, even if it will make us look less epic."
"I don't want to join because I don't want to put up with all of your foolishness anymore," Nah screamed. After that outburst, Nah transformed and flew back to camp.
The Justice Cabal members watched as the red dragon flew away.
"Do you think we annoyed her too much?" Morgan wondered.
"What? Are you kidding? We're practically her best friends!" Owain responded, oblivious to the manakete's annoyance. "So Cynthia, what brings you here?"
"I was looking for you when I saw you guys run towards here! We haven't really done anything too heroic in a while, so I was thinking we can go around camp to help our comrades!" Cynthia said triumphantly.
"By the all seeing eye of Naga, you're right!" Owain announced epically. "My comrades! How could I have forgotten about them? But alas, I haven't the faintest idea about where we should start….."
"I know what we could do!" Morgan said happily. "We can walk around camp and help whoever we run into."
"That's pure genius!" exclaimed Owain. "Evil doers beware! For the members of the Justice Cabal are on their way to vanquish you!"
And with that line, the Justice Cabal crew dashed off to do feats of awesomeness.
The Justice Cabal crew had been walking around for a long time looking to do some heroic deeds to no avail. It seemed as if no one needed their help and it was starting to disappoint them.
"I can't believe this," said Morgan. "We've been walking around all this time and we haven't run into anybody."
"I know," Cynthia said sadly. "The closest thing we've had to anyone asking for help were those strange moans we heard earlier on."
-Earlier on-
Kellam was taking a nice stroll through forest by the camp. 'I wonder if somebody will be able to notice me today…' He thought. As he was lost in his day dreams, he failed to notice the ditch right in front of him and naturally he fell right into it. The paladin was not pleased with his unfortunate predicament. He began to call out for help.
"Help!" He yelled. "Someone help me!"
Sadly, when Kellam fell, he got trapped in a little hole in the ditch which muffled his cries for help. He stayed in the ditch for a long time before he finally heard some people walking by.
"Help! Help me!" Kellam called out in his muffled voice.
"Halt!" Owain stopped epically. "Do any of my fellow Justice Cabal members hear that forlorn cry for help?"
Morgan and Cynthia stopped in their tracks. "He….lp me."
"I do! I hear someone!" the Pegasus knight said excitedly.
"Let's go look for them!" Owain commanded. "Let's split up, gang!"
The three teenagers ran towards the ditch, hoping to save someone.
Kellam heard the three teenagers as they walked towards the ditch. He began to scream as loud as possible and hoped that his invisibility didn't get in the way.
"Help me!" He yelled.
Unfortunately, it seemed that Naga was not on his side today.
"He….lp …me", the Justice Cabal crew heard.
"This is so bizarre," said Morgan. "I keep hearing that faint cry for help and yet I can't find anyone that needs to be rescued."
"You're correct," Owain agreed. "This is most strange, but I know I'm not mistaken. I know I heard a voice. I mean, sure, sometimes I hear voices in my head, but I know someone was calling for help."
Cynthia and Morgan looked at each other.
"Umm….Owain? How long have you been hearing these voices in your head?" Cynthia questioned worriedly.
"Huh? Oh they've been there since I was a kid," the myrmidon responded happily. "Some of my closest friends are in there. They always inspire me to be my very best, like no one ever was!"
Cynthia and Morgan looked at each other once again. As long as they inspire him to do good, they both thought.
"….elp me…."
The voice was heard once again and it was now started to creep the Justice Cabal members out. They tried their best to follow the source of the screams to no avail. Suddenly, Morgan stopped…..and caused Owain and Cynthia to bump into him.
"Ouch!" all three of them said as they hit the ground.
"Morgan, why have you ceased your walking so suddenly?" Owain asked annoyed, as he, Cynthia, and Morgan got up off the ground, while rubbing their sore bottoms.
"Sorry, but I just had a thought! A very creepy thought actually…."
"Well what is it?" Cynthia asked, curious as to what may have caused Morgan to stop so suddenly.
"Well what if the voice we've been hearing belonged to someone…*gulp* not …..living?" the tactician suggested in an eerie manner.
"…You mean…..we've been potentially hearing someone from beyond the beyond asking for help…?" Owain asked, suddenly not feeling so epic.
"Well it would make sense…." Cynthia's face started to go pale.
"HE…..LP…..M…..E!" Kellam yelled as loud as he possibly could, unknowingly scaring the three teenagers.
"You know what? I don't think we should stay here any longer! Let's go find someone else to help! After all, we can't bring the dead back to life!" Owain said as he ran away from the area with the ditch. Morgan and Cynthia ran as fast as they could to catch up with the fleeing myrmidon.
Kellam stopped screaming after he unfortunately just now realized that he just scared his only saviors away. Naga certainly wasn't on his side today.
"Why Naga, why?" he asked sadly.
-Present time-
Owain, Morgan, and Cynthia shuddered at the memory of hearing what they believed was a ghost. They continued walking around the forest until they heard a voice that they recognized. They followed the voice until they reached a tree with a beehive and a taguel in it.
"Come on, you can do it, Yarne!" the taguel said to himself. "You need to get this honey to save your race!"
The Justice Cabal crew eagerly went over to the tree to greet their timid friend, who was trying to salvage honey for some reason.
"Salutations, Yarne! What are you doing?" Owain greeted. Startled, the taguel nearly fell out of the tree.
"Yikes! OWAIN, ARE YOU INSANE?!" Yarne yelled. "I COULD HAVE FELL OUT THE TREE, HIT MY HEAD, AND DIED. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE END OF MY RACE!"
"….yea, but what are you doing?" Owain asked, oblivious to the serious "danger" that he put the taguel race in.
"I'm just trying to get some honey from this beehive."
"Wow Yarne! I didn't know you liked honey so much!" said Cynthia.
"Oh, I'm not a big fan of honey."
"Then why are you collecting it…?" Morgan inquired.
"Gaius said that if I want to live as long as possible and help to prevent the extinction of my race, then I have to collect massive amounts of honey from a beehive!" he explained.
"….And how will that help save your race?" Owain questioned.
Yarne shrugged. "I don't know. Gaius said he would explain it to me after I bring him the honey."
The Justice Cabal members took pity on the poor taguel, who was an unfortunate pawn in one of Gaius's sugar hunting schemes.
"Anyway, do you need any help?" Morgan asked Yarne.
"….Uhh…heh…heh….no thanks. I'm fine", Yarne nervously responded, fearful of what kind of impending doom might occur because of the crazy antics of the Justice Cabal crew.
"Nonsense!" Owain exclaimed epically. "We, the Justice Cabal crew, shall help you on your quest to restore your race!"
The myrmidon then joined his taguel friend up in the tree, next to the beehive.
"This is not going to end well," Morgan said and walked over to sit under another tree nearby.
"Why do you say that?" asked Cynthia, who also joined Owain and Yarne in the tree.
"You'll see!" the tactician yelled back.
"Oh, just ignore him," said Cynthia. "So how are we going to get the honey out the beehive?"
"I honestly don't know. I was so excited about hearing about a way to restore my race, I sort of ran off before Gaius could tell me how collect the honey," Yarne responded sheepishly.
"I know how we'll get the honey!" Owain announced suddenly.
"I've got a bad feeling about this….." Yarne shuddered.
Owain faced the beehive. "Bees! You must help us! Our good friend, Yarne, needs your help! Lend him your honey and he shall be eternally grateful!"
"….."
"….."
"Bravo!" yelled Cynthia, while clapping vigorously. "That was pure genius, Owain!"
"Of course it was! I'm Owain!"
Yarne and Morgan simply stayed silent.
Suddenly, a loud buzzing noise came from the hive. That can't be good, thought Morgan.
Hearing the noise, Yarne fled the tree. "Aaaahhhhh! I don't wanna go extinct!"
Owain and Cynthia watched as the taguel fled.
"Well that was certainly strange," said Owain. "I wonder what's got him all freaked out."
As soon as Owain finished his sentence, Owain and Cynthia were attacked by angry bees. Needless to say, the two of them started running as fast as they can.
"Hmm, I think I'll go back to camp and play a round of Tome Stackers…." Morgan said and walked off without bothering to check if his fellow Justice Cabal members were going to be okay.
Owain and Cynthia both continued running from the bees. As they were running, they failed to notice the ditch that was behind the bushes they were heading towards. Needless to say, they both fell in.
"Aaaaaah!"
Unfortunately for the Justice Cabal members, the ditch they fell into was filled with mud.
*Ker-splash!*
"Ack! Ptoeey! Gross!" Cynthia said as she stood up in the mud. "This is just disgusting! This is not how a hero should look!"
"Cheer up," said Owain, as he also stood up in the mud. "At least the bees aren't chasing us anymore!"
The pegasus knight simply gave Owain a look mixed with disdain and annoyance.
"I'm heading back to camp now and taking a bath. That's enough heroism for today!"
The Justice Cabal members tried their best to climb out of the ditch, which unfortunately for them wasn't an easy task because they both fell in again.
"Aaaaah!"
*Ker-splash!*
"We might be here for a while…" Owain said sadly.
Sorry, I haven't updated in so long. I usually try to update both of my stories at the same, but I haven't really been working on the other one. So I decided to update this story instead since I was working on it. I'm not going to stop with either of my stories, I'm simply bad at keeping up with updates lol. Anyway, I hope this long chapter makes up for the long wait. Thanks for being patient with me. Bye humans!
