Purity
Now that was something rare in this world. Gone was that childlike innocence of life. Gone were the carefree days. Instead, life was full pain and tears. There were glimpses of joy, only to be marred by tragedy.
So ask me again, why the two persons must accustomed to death, decided to bring a child into the hell they called life. Why risk it all, if they out of everyone else knew what suffering meant, would endanger such a small creature. Because they were in love. They met in the midst of an apocalypse and found the light in each other. They each managed to mend their broken hearts and souls together. They saw a glimmer of hope and chance in each other's eyes.
And they married, knowing that the dream might end someday and should be enjoyed to the fullest. Hanji gave birth to a little girl, and already Levi was questioning himself: would his heart have enough room for another woman?
It better, because he fell in love with her the moment she grasped his finger. It amazed him how this small human already possessed great strength in such a tiny body. Well, who was he to question strength and size if he was, well, an extraordinary case himself.
Hanji on the other hand was delighted the moment she felt life kicking inside of her. Such passion to live and zeal to already break through, even if she had to stay inside the womb for another five months.
They named her Lily. Hanji long ago had read somewhere that there was a flower called 'Lily' and meant beauty and pureness and to her that sounded like the most beautiful name ever. Imagine to her surprise when Levi heard her utter the word and feel his heart tighten.
His ancestors, if he remembered, were of something called French descent and his grandfather always spoke of such beautiful, white flowers that would bloom in the spring, called lilies.
Levi found himself smiling as he took Hanji's hand in his. Their daughter deserved to live in a better place. He would make sure she never met the nightmares of their life. He swore he would cleanse the world and restore it back to its proper place. Even of he had lived a life of wrongness in the past, at the sight of Lily, he felt his slate being wiped clean.
Hanji tenderly kissed Lily on her forehead. "Welcome to Earth, my daughter. You will live, and grow, and live to see a world of pure grace."
