Epilogue: A Future Worth Having.
Staring up at the house where Aiden and Leah lived, Alicia took a deep breath as she mentally prepared herself to head inside; she hadn't seen her brother in nearly a year now and she had missed him. It hadn't been an easy decision to make after her graduation but Alicia had done the trip that she'd originally planned for her and Embry; she had wanted to make memories that she could remember forever.
Taking a deep breath, Alicia moved to knock on the door so that she wasn't keeping everyone waiting; she could already guess Amelia and Paul had arrived with their brood. Alicia had made sure that she always stayed in contact with her siblings and their families no matter where she ended up in the world.
Before Alicia got the chance to knock, the door was pulled open and a little girl with dark brown hair stared up at her; she was covered in chocolate and it made Alicia smile that she was the first to see her.
"Auntie Ali," Tabatha Matthews squealed before launching herself at her aunt, she clung to her as her mother appeared behind her with a smile on her face. Leah crossed her arms pleased to see that her sister-in-law hadn't ducked out of spending Christmas with them like she had done last year; it had been in La Push with Amelia and Paul hosting since Amelia was too pregnant to fly.
It was strange seeing Alicia again and Leah could understand why she refused to return to La Push, it was the place that she spent so much time with Embry and now he was gone.
"You're late," Leah mused watching Alicia stand up with Tabatha, she rested a hand on the bump that she carried; she couldn't wait for her second child to be burn. Alicia didn't respond as she stepped into the house, it was beautiful here and she could understand why Leah and Aiden had settled here; they were happy and with council running well, there was nothing for them to fear.
Everything seemed to be working out so well for her elder siblings and Alicia certainly didn't envy her siblings for their busy lives; she loved traveling the world and she wouldn't change anything right now. Leah closed the door and wondered if things would ever feel normal again with Embry gone, it was strange having Alicia around and she knew this must be hard on her.
"Aaron leave Alisa alone," Amelia called spotting her eldest pulling on his sister's hair, she shifted the hold on Adam knowing that it was nearly time for his nap. She kissed the top of Adam's head before turning around to see Alicia entering the room, a smile formed on her face at the sight of her sister.
She had missed her so much and Amelia wanted nothing more than to see her more often, she knew that Alicia didn't like coming to La Push but she was sure that they could meet somewhere else. Leah lifted Tabatha into her arms and smiled at Alicia before moving to check on the dinner, it was nice to have the entire family here to celebrate Christmas.
"I can't believe how big he's gotten," Alicia mumbled feeling bad about not seeing her nephews and niece more, she hadn't seen Amelia in over a year now either because being in La Push hurt too much. She did hope that she would be able to go back one day, she couldn't imagine hard Tiffany was suffering at the loss of her son even after eight years.
Amelia nodded her head, it felt awkward between them because of how different their lives had worked out; she was busy raising three children while Alicia was traveling the world.
"He takes after his dad that way," Paul said appearing to break the tension, he smiled at Alicia before taking Adam. The little boy pouted at being taken from his mother and wiggled in his father's arms before being taken away so that he could take a nap; dinner would be soon and no one wanted a grumpy Adam to ruin things.
"How have you been?" Amelia asked softly, she couldn't imagine what sort of life that Alicia had been living the past few years; there seemed no sign of her settling down from traveling the world. She seemed happy doing what she was doing and Amelia wanted nothing more than to see Alicia completely happy again; maybe even thinking more about her future, she couldn't run away from the pain that she had suffered forever.
"I'm good," Alicia mused with a stiff smile, they had argued in the past about her traveling and she understood why Amelia was so worried; she had been moving about a lot in the last eight years. It had crossed her mind to settle down in one of the beautiful countries that she had been to, she loved traveling and she wanted to carry on for a little longer while she could.
"Are you still with…" Amelia tried to ask, she couldn't recall the name of the man that her sister had been seeing recently; she was glad to hear that Alicia was trying to move on. Embry would not want Alicia spending the rest of her life alone, he would want her to move on with her life and be happy even if it wasn't with him.
"No we ended things. It didn't feel right," Alicia said with a shake of her head, she had ended things when she realised that he wished to take the next step with her and settle down. She wasn't ready for that and when she was then Alicia was sure that she wouldn't keep on thinking about Embry every moment that she was with someone else.
"Okay how about we have a toast," Aiden said sitting next to Leah at the table, he couldn't believe that they had been together for ten years; it felt like only yesterday that they were moving to Forks. It didn't seem real how fast the years had rolled by and he couldn't wait until the birth of their second child; he adored Tabatha and she looked so much like her mother.
"To family," Aiden toasted lifting his glass, he honestly didn't know what he would do without the people around this table; everything was so different now for the three of them and he was glad peace had descended. They had fought for what they had wanted and while they had lost some very good friends, it was nice not to have to worry about what could be waiting for them around the corner or who would die next.
Paul rested an arm on the back on Amelia's chair, he was happy that their lives had worked out like they had; even if their house was a bit busy with three children inside now. Nothing would make him trade the life that he had with his wife and children, they were everything to him and he adored his job as a police officer; he had been convinced to join the force by Charlie a couple of years ago.
Everything was good back on the reservation with a lot of the pack settling down and having families of their own; it seemed like nothing had really changed in the last ten years. Amelia was still working at the library even if it wasn't as often as she had done before, her main focus now was her children and helping the tribe.
The future that they had all fought for was clearly worth having and they all hoped that they wouldn't have to deal with any more trouble for the rest of their lives.
