Yu slept contently in his bed, though sunlight shined in on him. Smiling he snuggled up to his pillow a bit more, until he heard a loud knocking on his window. Jolting up, he looked over to the window, and ran over to it. Opening the curtain he saw outside a beaming Theodore. Smiling back awkwardly he waved at him. 'Hasn't this guy heard of jetlag... I just got here. Oh well. He seems sweet enough.' After putting on his day clothes he opened up the door and there were his parents, and Theodore who popped in next to them.
"Sorry about that, Theodore was just excited to show you around the city." Yu's mom sighed and rubbed the back of her head.
Theodore cringed and grimaced. "Sorry... I should have just let your parents wake you."
"No, no, its okay. Need to get adjusted to the new sleep schedule anyway." Yu yawned and stared down the street where he saw a familiar woman staring at him. Squinting his eyes, he didn't pay attention to the fact his parents followed his gaze. Theodore just looked confusedly between them.
"Someone you know?" Yu's dad asked as he adjusted his glasses.
"Uh... I think so..." Yu sighed and clasped his hands together. "Excuse me for a moment as I speak with her."
"Is she one of your friends? Like the Saki girl?" Yu's mom watched him walk off, while Theodore just stared at everyone completely lost.
"Its Marie actually..." Once he crossed the street the two stared at each other in silence for a while.
"Its been a while since we last talked... a lots happened." Marie looked down to the ground and held her arm tightly. "I found out about myself... and you... and everything."
Yu's eyes softened as he crossed his arms quizzically. "Is it about my shadow from a few days ago?"
"Yes, and no." Marie sighed and shook her head. "You know what, just go hang with your family. I can tell you later... just... know that guy that's with you. He and Teddie have something I need." She turned from Yu and began walking down the street, meeting up with a tall silver haired girl who looked strangely familiar to Yu.
"This isn't cryptic at all... I should have brought my note books... why'd I leave them with Saki?" Sighing Yu looked back to his parents and smiled. Once back with them they traveled the city mostly going through parks. While they were sitting by a fountain eating some food, Yu stared at Theodore who was staring dreamily into the fountain. "So... why has he been following us around since I got here?"
"He's our best student. We are planning to send him back to Japan with you. The family he is staying with run's a Junes store in Inaba." Yu's dad raised an eyebrow as Yu's eyes widened. "Yes, the Hanamura boy."
"How long were you planning that?" Yu rubbed the back of his head and frowned.
"Since near the start of the year. We just wanted to see how well he talked with someone who didn't know German." Yu's mouth dropped but his mother quickly grabbed his hand. "No, that isn't the reason we brought you back here. We just saw it as a nice chance to see how he does." Sighing she sat back. "He's sweet but... a bit overemotional. His Japanese is good but I don't know if he can acclimate to the culture very well."
Yu nodded and looked back at Theodore who was tracing his finger in the water. Getting up he walked over and sat next to him. "So, you looking forward to Japan?"
"Oh yes! I'm hoping to head back with you after your summer break. I hope to make many friends." Theodore sighed happily and stared at the water spraying from the fountain. "I was there once with my parents. I went to Inaba too in fact. It was such a fun time. There was a giant bear mascot giving out toys and he gave me some things! A little bubble wand."
Yu's face paled as he listened. "Oh... like a brown bear? Or panda?"
"Nah, a bear in a suit and he had blue fur." Theodore leaned back and looked at the sky. "That memory is very much cherished to me. I wonder if he still lives in Inaba..."
Yu then began to scream internally as he listened to Theodore's story. "That's sweet." he managed to say. "Have you ever worn a suit like that?"
Hearing this, Theodore's disposition changed instantly. "Me, wha? What?! N-no! Of course not! HAHAHAHA!" Theodore then cleared his throat and looked away blushing. "I mean... no."
Yu shut his eyes and sighed. 'There is easy to read, and then there is doing everything short of plastering it on your face. Man... so he and Teddie are connected? Does that mean Teddie is a shadow? He doesn't seem to be antagonistic. Annoying maybe but not...' Yu stared blankly as Theodore began waving his hand in front of his face.
"I'm sorry for freaking out yesterday about you being so quiet. I didn't realize you dazed off so easily." Theodore clapped his hands and waved back to Yu's parents. "We should probably get moving, your parents finished their lunch."
When dusk finally came, Yu and Theodore went their separate ways and Yu stared to his parents who shrugged at him. "Mom, dad, you know that bear thing I told you about?"
"Vaguely... why? Was that girl from earlier the bear?" Yu's mom stared curiously at Yu.
"Well... no... I think the bear is Theodore's shadow." Yu's parents grew quiet and then stared at each other.
"Of course... it seems no matter where in the world you go there is something connected to your adventures in Inaba..." Yu's mom sighed and unlocked the room's door. "What that girl say to you anyway?"
"That Theodore and Teddie are connected." Yu headed inside and looked over at the TV. "By the way. Did you guys want to see me put my hand in a television?"
His parents frowned and looked at each other. "As much as we'd like to say no, we should confirm conclusively that this is all for real." They both sat in front of the TV and watched as Yu's hand phased into the television, causing it to ripple. Pulling it back out he looked to his parents who both grimaced and looked at each other. "Wow..." they both said.
Taking his glasses off, Yu's father sighed. "Yu... take us into the television world please."
"Wh-what?" Yu turned to his parents and flushed. "Why do you-"
"We talked about this before you showed us this, but if what you said was true we decided that we wanted to be able to go into the TV world too in case something happened to you."
Yu looked to his mother who nodded. Smiling softly, Yu agreed and had them come in front of the TV with him. "Now... brace yourselves." Yu took his parent's hands and pushed them into the television, both flinching as they felt the television pulsate over them. "Now you guys can come in... let me go in first though." His parents watched with attentive eyes as Yu passed through the television.
Passing through the black and white portal, Yu came to the other side and found himself in a rather barren place. Yu looked about and crossed his arms. "Why isn't there much here?" Before he could think much more on this his parents made it through and the two of them looked around the world with their mouths dropped.
"So... this is where you go..." Yu's father's glasses slid off his face but he didn't notice.
"Yeah, now we might want to go in before anything happens. I don't think you guys are ready." Yu ushered his parents in the direction of where they entered but stopped. "Wait... oh shit... oh shit!" Yu grabbed his head and began smacking it. "What was I thinking!"
"Yu what is it?!" Yu's mother grabbed him by his arms.
Yu bit his lower lip as he looked at his parents. "Okay... we may need to travel to the Japan area of this world..."
"What?!" His parents shouted.
"I kind of forgot the only reason I was able to exit the shadow world was because of Teddie..." Yu cringed as his parents let out a yell of frustration.
"Why didn't you think of that before letting us come here?!" His mother groaned and held her face.
Yu's father groaned too but patted her shoulder. "Well, we did kind of threw the idea of coming here on him rather unexpectedly.
Sighing, Yu shook his head. "Okay... so first things first... we either go to Shadow Japan, or find a cute mascot character here.."
