This is the third in the series for the USS Caryl poem/art challenge.

Prompt provided by fangirl4ever

Prompt: Do one on either Daryl or Merle's reaction to the deleted scene between Merle and Carol. I did this from Merle's perspective.

I don't own the walking dead, if I did, Merle would still be alive and Caryl would be going THE POWER COUPLE!

Show dialog in italics belong to tptb, the rest is mine.

WHEN THE MOUSE ROARED

"IT'S NOT MUCH, BUT COMPARED TO WHAT WE'VE HAD IT'S A LOT"

Boredom consumes him

As does fear

Not for his life's choices

But for whom he holds dear

Quietly she creeps

Bringing substance

He expects words of greeting

Meaningless platitudes

He watches her

Not seeing the appeal

She is tired, careworn, plain

He remembers her from before

She who was a shadow

A faded echo of a woman

What is it about her?

That holds his attention

Plain old woman

Not of worth

Admissions she makes

How is she alive?

Even she questions

That strange twist of fate

"I think I'm alive because people underestimate me, don't underestimate me"

Tired words fall from tired lips

She confuses, confounds him

Tiny shell of a woman

Eyes rise to meet

Blue on blue

He sees fire, passion

Burning in their depths

This is no shell of a woman

She is camouflaged

She hides

Blazing awareness hits him

"If you screw this up, mess with Daryl, I will slit your throat while you sleep"

Warning and promise

Calmly given

Her eyes stay locked to his

Steady, firm

She does not fear him

She will defend

She holds HIS dear one

Close to her heart

Little mouse?

Burning inner light shows truth

Careworn, plain? BEAUTIFUL

Tired, yes but strong

Faded ghost?

He sees her clearly

"Enjoy your food"

Last line given with a smile

Her eyes twinkling with awareness

She knows, he knows

He understands the appeal

Annoyed he is to find

The attraction brothers hold

For the quiet mouse who roared.

This idea came to me while re watching the deleted scene. I don't know if it was just me, but Carol defiantly sparked Merle's interest with this conversation. I really wish the writer's had kept him around because I personally would have LOVED to have seen more interaction between the Dixon brothers and their Mouseā€¦
