Title: Midday Flight

Type: Two-shot (for now anyway)

Pairing: (older) Hiccup/Astrid. Stoick's dead here.

Astrid hopped down from Stormfly and went to find Hiccup who, wasn't that hard to find. She found him hammering a piece of metal in the forge. She called out his name but he didn't hear her so she tapped him lightly on the shoulder causing him to drop his hammer on his good foot.

"Thor's beard!" he cried in pain as well as shock.

He turned around ready to give the person who made him drop his hammer a piece of his mind but his plan fell as he saw who the person was.

"Astrid. . . hey" He told her sheepishly.

"Sorry Hiccup, I didn't mean to startle you." Astrid apologized.

"It's fine"

"So.. . what are you doin'?" she asked curiously trying to look behind him.

"A surprise" he told her as he pulled her gently by her waist.

"Aw please?" she whined.

"You'll find soon enough" he told her as he held her hand and walked out of the forge. In return she intertwined her fingers with his, who then gave her a smile that made her heart melt.

"Where we going?" she asked

"Aren't we curious today?" he told her teasingly.

"Answer meeeee" she pleaded.

Hiccup suddenly stopped making Astrid stop with him.

"Hmm. . . let's go on a dragon ride" he told her

Astrid groaned "Last time me and you went on a dragon ride together I got grounded for a week."

Hiccup blushed "We only went for a ride together."

"I know" she smirked at him only to make Hiccup go redder.

"So… dragon ride it is?" he asked hopefully

"Yeah let's go- wait." She said

"What's wrong?" asked Hiccup.

"RACE YOU!" Astrid yelled as she sprinted towards Stormfly

"Oh I see how it's going to be" Hiccup yelled after her as he made his way to Toothless.

Astrid reached Stormfly first but Hiccup was already flying on Toothless when she finally rode on Stormfly's back. Since Astrid had no idea where Hiccup was going she instructed Stormfly to just follow them.

Astrid flew in peace for a while until Hiccup though it was funny to disappear in a cloud of fog. Astrid looked around for a while until she decided that she was hopelessly lost. She called out for Hiccup but he didn't answer her.

"Hiccup this is not funny" she yelled into the void only to hear her voice echo in the distance. She was about to try going back where she came from until a shadow caught her eye.

"Hiccup?" she whispered.

The shadow came back again closer and bigger than ever. Suddenly she didn't feel so scared.

"Hiccup" she called teasingly

"Actually it's Snoutlout " A completely different voice answered her.

"Snoutlout? Did you see Hiccup by any chance?" she questioned him trying not to sound too irradiated.

"No. But if you're lost I know the way back. "

"No it's fine I need to find Hiccup"

"Alright then" he said and without a word he flew away.

Astrid sighed as she unsaddled Stormfly. She spended her entire day trying to find that idiot but to no avail. Now the skies are darkening.

She put her hand on the door handle when a familiar voice interrupted her.

"Astrid!"

"Hiccup! Where have you been I've been looking for you everywhere!" she half yelled at him as she made her way towards him.

"I know I'm sorry I just needed to do something really important" he apologized. He grabbed her hand and gave her a kiss on it.

She let out little giggle. (For Thor's sake he has made her go soft)

"Astrid" He whispered

"Yes?"

"Marry me" he asked her as he pulled out the most beautiful ring Astrid had ever seen.

She let out a gasp with surprise.

"Hiccup" she said as tears started to form in her eyes.

"I've been working on it in the forge all day and…" he started rambling

"Hiccup, Yes yesyesyes a million times yes" Astris responded with happiness.

"I'm glad you like i-mmph" Hiccup started rambling again but was interrupted with a kiss from Astrid

Astrid didn't want to let Hiccup go but she had to when oxygen was needed.

"God I love you" Hiccup said between breaths.

"I love you too."

Astrid gave him one last kiss before she speeded off back to her house.

Astrid ran up to her room ignoring her mother's question about her day had been and closed the door behind her.

She leaned against the now closed door and closed her eyes to think about what just happened.

Hiccup just asked her to marry her. Hiccup just asked her to marry him.

Astrid Haddock. She liked the sound of that.

Hiccup slowly made his way to his house. He entered quietly not wanting to wake up his sleeping mother or at least he thought. Instead found her knitting (or at least trying to) near the fire.

"Mum you're still up?" Hiccup questioned his mother in disbelieve

"Yes, I'm afraid I haven't gotten used to the bed" she said with a hint or humour

"Well, um I guess yu should know that I've asked Astrid to marry me" Hiccup stuttered awkwardly

"That's wonderful!" Valka exclaimed as she gave her son a hug.

"Yeah . . . Dad really liked her" he told her with a sad expression

"Really?"

"Yeah he used to tell everyone that Astrid's going to be his daughter-in-law someday" Hiccup chuckled at his father's behavior

"I guess he was right"

"Yes he was"

"I just wish he was here"

"Me too. He'd be happy"

"I know he would"
