Chapter 14: The Department of Mysteries
Once in London proper, Harry led the way, as he remembered how to get to the Ministry building from Muggle London. They had to take two different rides on the entrance box due to how many people they had. the badges they were given said 'Rescue Mission' on them.
"Alright. Harry, lead the way. The rest of have no clue where to go." Ruby said, letting the wizard take the lead. She may have been team RWBY leader, but this was Harry's mission mainly. RWBY and some of the DA members were there as backup. Heading to the elevators that would take the group to the Department of Mysteries, everyone was on edge.
Once there, Harry led the group to the hallway he kept seeing in his dreams. While it was eerie in dream from, it was even more so in reality. By the time everyone had gathered up, the doors started spinning, they all got confused.
"When the room stops spinning, we need to check the doors for the right one. Mark the wrong ones." Blake said, everyone agreed, and when the room finally stopped spinning, everyone rushed to a door. By luck, Neville had gotten the right door, the description given to everyone on the flight to the Ministry.
"Guys, it's here." the shy boy called out, having everyone get in before he did. Once everyone was inside the room, the all took a look around. Time Turners were in a cabinet that was in a state of building itself, and falling apart.
"We need to get a move on. Lets go." Harry said as he lead the way. Out of the room with the time turners, the group was faced with rows upon rows of glass spheres, and Harry knew that Sirius wasn't that much farther way.
With destination in mind, Harry led the group down the main aisle, hoping to find Sirius at the start of row 97, but finding nothing. From the start of this rescue mission, Blake had a bad feeling. Now, with the person they were here for not here, that feeling got worse. Harry grabbing some ball that had 'Lord Voldemort' written under it did not help.
"Well now, isn't this just grand?" a voice was heard calling out from the darkness, making the group get together back to back, as it was lost in the echo of the room.
"Who's there?" Harry called out, as a figure came out of the gloom. A Death Eater, in full uniform, walked up to them. Seeing this, many of the students who could see the Death Eater unleashed their weapons, the mechanisms heard loud and clear as the Eater stopped his approach.
"Well Mr. Potter, as fancy as your new toys are, I think this night can be done without everyone here dying if you just give me the prophecy. " The Eater said, taking his mask off to revel Lucius Malfoy under it. This revelation didn't surprise anyone.
"Where's Siruis?" Harry asked, one gauntlet ready to go, the other hand holding the prophecy, not sure just what to do with it. Smashing it seemed like a really good idea at the moment.
"The Mutt? He was never here. The Dark Lord played you for the fool you are and lured you here to collect the prophecy for him." Lucius said. This pissed Harry off to no end. He was used like a tool to further the plot of an insane madman.
"Well, in that case, I don't think you'll need this. WEAPONS FREE!" Harry shouted as everyone with a gun started firing, the rest slinging spells. The result was instant.
The pillars holding countless other prophecies fell, the orbs breaking and the voices drowning each other out. Harry used this to break the one he was holding as his group made a move for the door to escape.
The falling pillars were catching up to the group of nine as they ran. A door was spotted, and Ruby dashed ahead, opening it and going throw first. The drop was unexpected, and no one had time to think about it as they all had their momentum canceled by something.
Hermione had been able to do the spell at the last second, saving all of them form a messy and early end. Getting up and looking around, the group saw that whatever room they had landed in, it was barren, save for a few pillars surrounding an archway that had a bit of cloth in it, flapping in an unseen breeze. Harry swore he had heard voices from it, but shook it off as Death Eaters came in.
With no choice but to fight, everyone got their weapons ready, before the room became a hellstorm of bullets and spells.
Ron and Neville were fighting near each other, Red Strike and Vengeance working together to hold back a few of the Death Eaters who didn't know how to get a spell in, as the chain sickles were able to block the spell-fire, and return stunners in kind, along with a slight cut. In short time, only Bellatrix LeStrange was left, and Neville wanted to take her down. The once shy boy went to engage the utterly insane women in single combat, hoping to avenge his parents.
Hermione was holding on her own, using a pillar as cover as she blasted stunners at the Death Eaters, the group she was up against headed by Luscious. While she wasn't able to peg the smug bastard yet, she had hit most of the other Death Eaters, leaving that group fighting her to Malfoy and three other Death Eaters. Three shots later, and it was down to just Malfoy.
The Ice Queens had gone on a rampage, rapiers ripping through the throng of Death Eaters, cuts and stunners putting them down easily. Only one Eater was left, and he was able to put up a fight, using shield charms to block the stunners and slashes from Daphne and Weiss.
Harry and Yang were having a good time. With the training Yang had given him, and the weak bodies the Death Eaters had, using boxing style attacks mixed with spells for some range was simply destroying anything that got in the pair of brawler's path way. Of course, one of the Death Eaters had launched a cutting curse, and it had clipped Yang's hair. For a moment, the battle stopped, and then Yang proceed to beat down anyone near her that was wearing a mask.
Ruby, along with Blake, were just too fast for the Death Eaters to land a hit on. Between the near-teleporting speed Ruby had, a cloud of rose petals the only giveaway, and Blake's Afterimages giving the Pure-blood racists a shock as they tried to hit her, the two girls made short work of them. Before they could congratulate themselves, it started going pear-shaped.
The Death Eaters were getting reinforcements, and the group of nine were getting tired, The Golden Trio and Slytherin's Ice Queen, and Neville more so than Team RWBY. Before it could get any worse, members of the Order of the Phoenix arrived, including team JNPR.
This let the first nine get a chance to get to cover and breath for a few before getting back into the fight. Luck held with them for a bit longer. That luck however, turned quickly. Neville took a cutting curse to his upper arm, making Vengeance useless to him, as he couldn't swing it correctly with only one arm. Harry was starting to wear down, and was barely able to dodge the curses coming his way.
It was Sirius however, that luck, and maybe fate, turned it's back on. Battling his sister Bellatrix, he took a bad step, tripping backwards, and a stunner to the head. As to why Bellatrix used a stunner, nobody knows. It was the fact that Sirius fell into the Veil that Harry's heart damn near stopped.
Ruby had seen it as well, and while the red cloak wearing girl was normally a happy person, that was an act that she was unable to let go unanswered. Unfolding Crescent Rose to it's full form, she took a stance, and with a pull of the trigger, and a burst of Semblance enhanced speed, Ruby came at Bellatrix with all her might, and swung upward.
"That was for Harry and Sirius both." Ruby said to Bellatrix, before the once right hand of Voldemort fell over, cut in half going from bottom of her right hip to top of her left shoulder. With this, both forces stopped, as some had died for both sides. The Death Eaters, surprised by this, didn't see the blades of a Cat Fanus coming, many of them being cut down quickly.
Afraid and surprised, many of the Death Eaters, Lucius Malfoy included, turned tail and ran. Between the speedy death of Bellatrix, the messy remains of those that had taken on Nora, and then the swift deaths to those that Blake had taken, no Death Eater was left in the chamber.
"Come on. We need to get out of here before they get a second wind." Remus said as he took Harry's arm and they, along with the other members of the Order and Harry's group were 'flashed-traveled' up to the atrium, where a battle was taking place.
Voldemort it seemed, wanted to take this one into his own hands, and was only being held back by Dumbledore for the moment. Getting to the atrium, Harry started seeing red. Between the murderer of his parents, the reason his life was hell at home, and the man he saw as someone to be a helping hand seemingly abandoning him, Harry was pissed, and channeled it out through his gauntlets, rushing Voldemort and catching the Dark Lord off guard for a moment, which Harry used to start beating Voldemort's face in.
Before Harry could do a lot of damage, Voldemort flung the Boy-Who-Lived off, sending him crashing into the floor.
"Well, this was unexpected, but at least you had the decency to offer your self up to me Potter. Now, Bow!" Voldemort yelled, as Harry's head exploded in pain. He could feel it mostly coming from his scar, and he felt something pushing against his mind.
In another life time, Harry would have taken a while to push the presence out, say a few words to Dumbledore not his own, and then nearly pass out. Here though, Harry was stronger. Mostly physically, but the mental strength to keep training was there, and Harry, after a few moments of near burning pain, started to push back, bringing up the good times with his friends, the hard days of training, and the good feeling afterwards from it.
Screaming bloody murder, Harry pushed the presence out of his head, and getting up, feeling ragged, but still ready to fight. Voldemort was surprised, but hid it well. Before he could make his grand escape, a large crowd started to flood into the atrium, the Minister at the forefront.
They all saw Voldemort, alive once more, and they were shocked into silence. With a growl of frustration, Voldemort apperated out. That was the key for the chaos to start. Everyone who was alive during the last war had memories come back, a time where you might not live to see the next day.
In the madness, Fudge looked at Dumbledore, and the look of regret coming from the Minister couldn't be faked. He had been scared of a coup, and missed the real threat. Now, he was going to pay the price.
The much older man simply shook his head, and then had his Order leave, going back to Hogsmeade, and then walking back up to the castle to discuss the events of the night. As they walked up, howls could be heard coming from the Forbidden Forest.
"More Grimm. Professor Dumbledore, I need to make some ammo. Stay safe," Ruby said as she broke off from the group, heading towards her team's classroom to grab the Dust they had harvested and grinded down into it's powdered form. We're going to need a lot of bullets, the red reaper thought to herself as she got to work, trying to distract the thought of what she had done this night with the simple and well loved process of working at a crafting bench.
With the rest of the group, they were all still quite. Many were trying to compute the fact that both Sirius and Bellatrix were dead. The other seven from Remnant were trying to get over the fact that Ruby, the sweet and young girl they all knew, had killed a person with such ease it seemed. Yang was worried the most, but the howls they heard as they walked in conflicted with her urge to comfort Ruby. Ammo was going to be very important very soon.
The Hogwarts crew were all shell-shocked to various degrees. Harry had lost the closest person he had to him, and was close to just shutting down for the night. Ron, Neville, and Hermione were trying to connect the picture of Ruby to the seemingly personification of the Grimm Reaper in red they saw down in the chamber after Sirius went through that Veil. Daphne was wanting to comfort Harry, as Merlin know how many times he had done it for her, but she wasn't sure how.
All in all, this was a very solemn night, and not much else was said between the people gathered this night. It was a night for both grieving and reflection, and all the while, howls could be heard coming from the Forest, a sign that things would be getting much darker, For now, it was time to say goodbye.
A/N: So, long time no see, ey? Sorry about that guys. Between me being a bum, school starting again, and then Destiny coming out, no time to write. I finally finished this chapter though.
So now I ask, how should I do this from here on? We are near the end of the 5th year arc, and 6th year will be very different from cannon. I ask, should I post it in here, or in a different story? I'll leave the decision up to you guys.
