Hellsing (any) – Waiting (Integra + Alucard)

Soundtrack: Beyond the Stage (Anna Karena Soundtrack) – Dario Marianelli

Just a quick sketch.

Alone and wrapped in shadow, Alucard watches the rain spatter on the windows of the library.

The droplets makes the world outside misty and ethereal, cocooning the house against the particulars of time and place.

For a moment, he is young again; nervous and straining to hear the cries of his first born son.

But the room is the wrong shape and it dispels the fantasy as quickly as it's conceived.

There is a leak in the fireplace and he finds his fingers tapping in harmony with the falling drip.

Annoyed, he gets up and seeks to lose himself in the forest of book cases.

He has long since read them all, but the orderly march of leather that lines the shelves is comforting. Familiar.

Shared.

Unseen, Alucard paces through the aisles among the tomes and memories of successive Hellsing children.

The golden chime of the hour seems a lifetime too slow, and he checks the antique clock (smirking at the irony) to see if it is somehow lying.

Twenty minutes and a thousand years later, the door creaks open to admit Doctor Trevalian.

The man's glasses have slid down to an exhausted angle and he rubs at the bridge of his nose.

A look is enough.

"They're fine, she is resting now."

The ivory face betrays no relief, but the vampire's shoulders relax fractionally.

"She will have to stay in bed for the rest of the term. Any further blood loss and we may lose more than just the baby."

Bone-deep weariness has painted the doctor's face with shadow. "She will hate it, but I'm sure you will help keep her out of trouble."

A fang glints in the dark. "I intend to do my best."

AN: The first time I heard this song I caught myself holding my breath. For such a soft and quiet piece, there are a lot of tense undertones. But I didn't get the impression the song's intensity is from a sense of danger, but more like the waiting room in a hospital. I've never actually seen the movie this came from, so I have no idea what scene this song was intended to pair up with.
