Chapter 9

The morning after

Opening my eyes, they seem to be stuck together. I slowly sat up, and ran my hand along my face. "Ugh," I cracked my fingers and took a deep breath. "Definitely didn't drink enough water," I mumbled. I had a pounding headache, and… I looked down, no clothes on… "Oh shit," I mumbled. I looked around, and didn't recognize the room. I grabbed my discarded boxers, and attempted to identify the female. She rolled over, and I saw copper hair… "Oh shit!" I ran my hands down my face; I slept with Misty… She mumbled, and opened her turquoise eyes. "Morning Gary," she mumbled. "…Good morning." She smiled, "Yes it is." She combed her fingers through her hair, the hair I had my fingers tangled in last night.

She slowly sat up, and I saw her copper hair fall down her naked back. "How did you sleep?" She asked. "Uh, fine." I took a deep breath, "Misty, I really don't remember anything that happened last night. Did we sleep together?" She sighed, and ran her hands through her bed-head. "Yes." I groaned, and fell back on the bed. She wrapped the covers around her, and sat back. "So, what are we going to do?" She asked. "I don't know." She ran her fingers through my hair, "Wonderful," she chuckled. "I'm glad you find this so funny. Oh," she smiled. "It's laughable. We crossed a line Gary." I rolled over, and rested on her legs. "You don't seem particularly bothered that we crossed the line." I looked up at her. She blushed, "I'm not." She whispered.

I looked down, blushing. Gary looked up at me, and smiled. "So, you enjoyed our passionate love-making?" She snorted, "Love-making? More like drunken sex." I rolled over on my back, "Degrade our love," he mumbled. I threw my head back, and laughed. "Are we going to be able to move past this?" He asked me, "Why do we have to move past it? Why…" I looked down at him, "I liked what we shared." He sat up, "And?" He prompted me. I sighed, running my hands through my hair. He ran his fingers up my arm, and I laughed, "I wouldn't mind doing that again." He nodded, and smiled. "So… You want to become a thing? No." I shook my head, "I don't want a relationship. I would like to have," I adjusted the blankets, "Just this."

Gary leaned back, and tapped his chin. "So, all you want is a friends with benefit situation? Well," I lied on his chest, "How about a mutually beneficial partnership?"

I ran my hand up and down her back, "So, all the benefits of a relationship with no relationship attached?" She nodded, "Sounds like a dream come true?" I chuckled, "Yeah," I started brushing her hair with my fingers, "Kinda honestly."

I could feel her dozing when my phone went off. She sat up, and I dug my hand through my jean pockets, "It's May." She stood up, "Answer it," she went into her closet.

I sighed, "Good morning May. Where are you!" She screamed into my ear. Holding the phone away from my now damaged ear, I sighed. "At Misty's. Why hasn't she answered her phone!?" I flinched, "I don't know, I think she just woke up." I glanced at her; she was pulling a pair of shorts on. "Can you put her on the phone?" I held the phone out for Misty, "Have fun." I whispered. She rolled her eyes, and chuckled. "Order us some breakfast," she whispered. I nodded, and she handed me a pair of my sweatpants.

I went to kitchen, and opened the phonebook. Misty was pacing back and forth, laughing with my sister. She handed me the home phone, and mouthed pizza. I nodded, and dialed the pizza number. "Hello, yes I would like a large pepperoni pizza, garlic and cheese bread and a two-liter of Coca-Cola?" Misty nodded, and laughed at something May said. She looked good, her hair still messy. She wore a blue tank top, and black shorts. She caught me staring, and winked at me. I'm sleeping with my best friend…

"Alright, goodbye May." I placed the phone on the coffee table, and plopped down on my lovely sofa. The pizza will be here soon." He said and sat down on the couch, and I placed my dainty feet on his lap. "Good, I'm starving." He snorted, "What's so funny? Nothing," He began to rub my feet. I sighed, and sat up. "How is my sister? Fine, she's taking care of Drew. He's really hungover, and threw up in her bathtub this morning." He chuckled, and shook his head. "My sister's boyfriend." I stood, and stretched, "They're not dating-" the doorbell rang. "And," I flicked the back of his head. "You know that was prank we pulled on you and Paul."

I opened the door, "Hi," I smiled at the guy. "Hi," he blushed, "One large pepperoni pizza, garlic and cheese bread and a two-liter of Coca-Cola for a Misty Waterflower? Yes, thank you. How much," I grabbed my wallet. "It's twelve-fifty miss." I nodded, and grabbed a twenty. "Keep the change." I smiled at him. He handed me the box, "You're Misty Waterflower? Yeah, that's me." I tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear. "I'm Kenny," he held his hand out, "Kenny Prispin!" I accepted it. "We have the same first hour. Oh yeah, you're Zoey's friend. Yeah, I didn't get to say it, but I really liked your song. You have an amazing voice. Thank you," I looked back, "Gary? Be a doll and come help me? Yeah, Mist. I'm coming."

"Would you like to get a cup of coffee with me?" Kenny blurted out. "Um, actually-" Gary came up, and grabbed the soda and bag of bread. "Hungry babe?" He rested his chin on my shoulder, "Yeah. Starving actually, remember?" He chuckled, and kissed my temple. "Good-bye Kenny." He shut the door before poor Kenny could say a word.

"That was rude Gary." I put the pizza box on the island. "Like seriously rude." Grabbing plates, I looked at my…my lover and shook my head. "He was hitting on you," Gary poured us both a drink. "So? He didn't know anything. And if he says anything, then people will think we're dating." He shrugged, "So? People have been thinking that for years." I opened the pizza box, "that's not the point Gary. You know how I feel about relationships." He grabbed himself a slice. "Yes," He put his plate down, and came to stand right in front of me. I looked up at him, and he cupped my face with both of his hands. "We have something here Misty. It will make us both happy, and I swear that I will never hurt you. Never leave you behind, or lie to you. Okay?" I put my hand on his wrist, "Okay," I whispered. "Thank you." He removed one hand, and stroked my cheek with his thumb. "Just remember one thing," I said. "What? I'm not in love with you." He smirked, "I know Red." He leaned in and pressed his lips to mine.

She sighed happily, and placed her hands on my chest. I pressed my hand against the small of her back, eliminating any space between our bodies. "You know," I whispered into her ear. "What?" She buried her fingers in my hair. "We could reheat the pizza, AND I'm already half-naked." She threw her head back, a pretty giggle escaping her mouth. Ducking my head, I kissed her exposed neck. "Sounds like a good plan to me." She grabbed my hand, and we ran down the hallway.

"We've wasted half the day." Gary handed me a drink, and smirked; "You won't hear me complaining." I chuckled, "I wasn't complaining. Just making an observation." He smiled at me, his green eyes glistening. "Gary, are you going to tell people about this?" He made a face, "You don't want me too?" I shook my head, "No, not really." He took a drink, "Are you ashamed of this? No!" I threw the covers off, and stood up. "No, I…" I played with my fingers, "I don't want to have to hear the comments. Who cares what other people think? We're happy. Isn't that enough? Gary," he looked at me, "I am sleeping with my best friend's brother! Do you realize that if May finds out, that she may actually try to kill me?! Or that she'll hate me forever? I love what we have, it's fun. And I don't want to give it up," I ran my hands up and down my face, "So don't think I'm ashamed of this. But you know how May can be." He nodded, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry," He wrapped his arms around me. "I understand, and," he kissed my forehead, "This will be our secret. Our little love affair," he said. I chuckled and kissed his cheek.

"You're going to reheat me some pizza," I wrapped my arms around his neck. "Hmm," He leaned forward, "Am I?" I nodded, "Yes. And then we're-" My phone started ringing. "Hold that thought." I walked over to my dresser and answered my phone. "Hey Dawn." I smiled, and sat on the bed. "Hey Misty, are you busy? Not really," Adjusting the phone, I laid down. "I was about to eat some reheated pizza and chill." I winked at Gary, who chuckled. "Well, May wants to go swimming. And we were hoping for a girls' night." I nodded, "Sounds like fun. Gary will drive me over there?" He nodded. "Let me find my swimsuit and we'll see you in a bit. OK." Dawn said, "Love you Misty. Love you too Dawn."

"Pool party? Am I invited? Probably," Misty stood up, and opened her drawers. "Grab my overnight bag Gary? Top closet shelf? Yep," She had a bikini top in her hand. "Do you know where my undershirt went?" I asked, placing her bag at her dainty feet. "Um," she looked around, "Over there. Hanging on the lamp." I laughed, and grabbed the top. "Nice shot Red." Her cheeks were a little redder now. "Thanks," she threw her hair over her shoulder, exposing her pretty neck.

Throwing the shirt on the bed, I wrapped my arms around Misty's figure and pulled her close against me. "Gary," Misty's voice chided me. "Hm," I buried my nose in her hair. She made a contented sound, and I placed a feather-light kiss behind her ear. Gary," she murmured. "Yes?" I kissed down her neck slowly, and she turned around. "Put on a shirt, and let me pack." I smirked, and let her go. "You're breaking my heart Misty. Well newsflash Gar-Bear," She finished her packing, and hooked an arm around my neck pulling me down closer to her face. "What Red," I placed my hands on her hips. "I'm not in love with you." She kissed my cheek, and walked out of the room.

"Damn," I muttered and followed her.
