This was it.

It all came down to now. Everything he had worked for this past year amounted to this. Every trial, every temple, every goddess-awful battle he endured would be put to the test. Each and everyone of the goddess's tests had made him strong, brave, and wise. He was forged, like a sword, as powerful and lethal as the sacred blade he carried. He was courageous, facing any task given to him without a second thought, defeating demonic monsters far beyond the definition of horror. He was wise, solving complex puzzles, and outwitting cunning enemies, his mind becoming one with his sword. And beyond this door was his living nightmare. The King of Thieves, Ganondorf. The master puppeteer that pulled all the strings in the stage he claimed for himself, Hyrule. And now it was time for the final act.

Link took a deep breath, holding up the dark grey key to the boss door. The blood red pearl in the center glinted in the torch light. He pushed it into the keyhole and hesitated before he turned it. The keyhole clicked and receded towards the center of the large lock. Multiple gears turned and the massive lock fell to the ground, the chains holding it up giving out under the strain.

"You ready?" Midna, Link's ever-faithful companion asked. The hero gave her an affirmative nod before hoisting up the large door. It slammed shut behind them, not to be opened again.

"He's got to be in the throne room!" The twili girl yelled over the roar of the wind. Two huge staircases were on either side of Link, both leading up to the throne room.

"It's now or never," he mumbled to himself, trying to gather the courage to face whatever was up the stairs. Midna took this as her cue to withdraw to Link's shadow, lest the raging winds carry her away. He stared up at glowing black clouds, illuminated yellow by some unseen light. He didn't have to look to know Ganondorf was up there; he could hear the wind's destructive power, see the eerie light the clouds gave off, he could feel the evil, as heavy and thick as fog in the air.

The fated hero ran up the left set of stairs, bracing himself for the worst. The dust in the air obscured his vision, but he made out a blue carpet and decided to follow it into the castle. Once Link was inside Midna left his shadow. With the walls of the castle acting as a barrier between the wind and her, she was safe to not be whisked away in its strong current.

Link stopped in front of the head of one of the goddesses. The statue had been broken, the cracked jagged lines of the smashed stone clearly spelling out 'Ganondorf was here'. Both of them looked up at the statue of the three goddesses to survey the damage. Nothing could have prepared them for what was in the center of the golden Triforce. The beautiful princess Zelda was floating there, completely lifeless like a porcelain doll. Link took a step forward towards her, ready to rescue her from whatever unseen force was holding her there. Midna stuck her arm out to stop him. Link looked to what she was staring at. Ganondorf. He sat casually in the throne, head resting on his palm.

"Welcome to my castle,"

"So you're... Ganondorf." Midna growled at him, fang showing. The Gerudo got up in response, showing them the glowing white scar from when the sages tried to execute him, proof that he was indeed the one they spoke of. "I've been dying to meet you." The tall man smirked at Midna and Link, walking closer to them.

"Your people have long amused me, Midna," Ganondorf began, ignoring the twili's defiant tone. "To defy the gods with such petty magic, only to be cast aside... How very pathetic." He laughed tauntingly at her, reaching out with his right arm. "Pathetic as they were, though, they served me well. Their anguish was my nourishment. Their hatred bled across the void and awakened me." He made a fist, and the leather of his glove began to stretch under his bulging muscles, that could undoubtedly end her life swiftly. "I drew deep of it and grew strong again." He lowered his arm, and continued, "Your people had some skill, to be sure... but they lacked true power." He turned around and faced Princess Zelda, grinning viciously, as if a brilliant thought had just hit him. "The kind of absolute power that those chosen by the gods can wield."

With a fire in his eyes he faced the two who had dared infiltrate his castle. "He who wields such a power would make a sutible king for this world, don't you think?" He raised his left hand, the Triforce glowing brightly. The light faded away from the bottom two triangles, leaving the top part of the Triforce to shine, signifying that Din's power was his to use.

Link drew his sword, fiercely glaring at him, defending himself and Midna if he tried to take them by surprise.

"Ha!" Midna laughed, mocking Ganondorf's so-called godly power, "Such conceit!" Moving into a fighting stance Midna argued, "But if you are one of the chosen wielders of power, as you claim... Then I will risk everything to deny you!" She threw her hands down, eyes wide with anger at Ganondorf, for the whole journey they had to embark on was just because of him.

"Shadow has been moved by light, it seems..." Ganondorf thought, noting how much Midna had changed after being with Link for so long. She was almost protecting him, by not giving him a chance to intervene with his plans. He smirked, thinking of how he could use this to his advantage. "...How amusing,"

"Very well... Deny me, then!" His grin didn't falter, as if the thought of Midna trying to defeat him was very funny. "Yes, try to deny me... You and your little friend."

Link tightened his grip on the hilt of his sword at Ganondorf's invitation to battle. The said king raised his arm towards Zelda. Midna gasped, and dove in front of the princess.

"Midna, wait!" Link called, ineffectively trying to get his friend away from danger.

Ganondorf laughed and dissipated into black squares. The dark particles flew upwards, directly towards Zelda. Midna tried to protect the light princess with her own body, but the twilight particles moved straight through her. Midna opened her eyes, quickly checking herself over making sure she wasn't dead. She whipped around, trying her hardest to force the dark power out of Zelda's body. After a few seconds, Midna hung her head in shame. After all Zelda had done for her she couldn't even return the favor by protecting her from Ganondorf. She placed a dainty hand on Zelda's cheek. Cracks formed on Zelda's face, as if she were but a mask that Ganondorf was wearing, only too small. The princess's eyes shot open, except they were not her own. They were Ganondorf's. Midna shrieked and flew back as a surge of dark energy pulsed out of Zelda.

Link bolted after the fallen girl, but stopped immediately after hearing a whooshing sound. He looked around, trying to determine where the sound was coming from. There were footsteps behind Link, and he spun around. The possessed princess laughed at his stunned expression.

Zelda's sword flew to her from its place on the floor. "Both of you, faithless fools who would dare take up arms against the king of light and shadow..." A gust of wind blew Zelda, or rather, Ganondorf, into the air, dress billowing slightly in the breeze. Ganondorf laughed through the helpless princess again. "So you choose. And you shall feel my wrath!"

Link stood frozen to the spot in fear. There was no way he could fight the princess!

"What do I do?! I can't attack her!" Link asked, panicking now that Zelda had begun to charge up a ball of electrical energy. He forgot that Midna was currently outside of the castle, separated from him by an orange twilight barrier.

Link' panic was replaced by the feeling of electricity surging through his body. He screamed as it rendered him paralyzed, its powerful voltage stopping his muscles from functioning. He fell to his knees, his weight suddenly becoming too much to bear. Ganondorf had prepared a second attack, using the hero's motionless state to his advantage.

Link pushed himself up, rising to his feet just as Ganondorf fired another ball of energy at him, but this time he smacked it back. The dark king, not expecting Link to retaliate, was hit. While the possessed girl was immobile, Link used his clawshot to pull her closer.

"Sorry, Zelda, but this is for your own good," Link said as he repeatedly slashed at her with his Master Sword.

Ganondorf shook himself out of the temporary shock and flew out of Link's reach. Holding Zelda's sword skyward, he charged at Link. Link side stepped, and slashed at Zelda from behind.

"This is real low of you Ganondorf. You call yourself the king of light and shadow, yet here you are, possessing helpless people to do your bidding." Link interjected, trying to lower the mighty man's guard. Fury built inside of him and it fueled Link like nothing else could. Ganondorf was the cause of so much of his pain, so much of his hardship. Defeating him would put Hyrule at ease once more. It would put Link at ease for once.

"You say it's cowardly, but I think strategic would be more appropriate a term." His voice came out as distorted, as if Zelda was internally fighting him. "How else would I rise to my current status?" Ganondorf attempted to strike Link with the electric ball again, but Link countered it. The two volleyed it back and forth a few times before Link hit back with more force than before. Light engulfed Zelda's form, and it fell to the floor slowly and unceremoniously.

"You think you are so mighty? Without Din's power you are useless. You aren't entitled to the Triforce; you stole it! If you really believe you are a god, then tell me, why did the Triforce split when you touched it?" Link raged at him, advancing to Zelda's limp form, sword held high.

"Fool! You dare question my power!" Ganondorf hissed as he got up, wincing all the while.

"The goddesses chose Zelda and I, not you. You call me a fool? They are on our side, and it is you who is foolish to try merge light and shadow to create darkness. The goddesses will help us to take Hyrule back and you will be sealed away once and for all! You are alone in this battle!"

The twilight barrier that had recently been blocking the exit disappeared, leaving a weary looking Midna behind. She staggered to her feet before floating up and letting the the three other Fused Shadows surround her. She morphed into a large spider-like creature with large arms that largely resembled Midna's "hair-hand". Ganondorf raised an arm to protect himself from the light it gave off. Midna reached out and slammed Zelda's body onto the throne, squeezing her tightly within her grasp. The black floating squares of twilight flew out from her fist, successfully extracting the evil from the princess. Did it work? Midna carefully let go of Zelda in case Ganondorf was still there and would try escape.

Princess Zelda sat up in her throne. The evil markings on her skin from when Ganondorf possessed her were gone, and the bluish tint of her skin was replaced by a much healthier looking pale peach.

Link couldn't help but smile at her. She would be fine. The dark twilight matter soared around him, and Link turned quickly to find it clumping together to form a massive boar. Midna floated to Link and lazily leaned against him. She smiled at him slyly before turning her attention to the ever-growing mass of darkness that was Ganon. Link returned the gesture with a determined look of his own before slipping into a fighting stance.

Ganon, the Gerudo king's beast form, reared up on his hind legs, roaring loudly. The white scar on its underside stretched long across its belly, making it a key target. Ganon jumped back, scratching the floor with its right hoof. Link raised his shield. Nightmare after nightmare seemed to unfold, coming to life before his eyes. Link took in the massive size of his opponent. You can do this, Link. You can do this.

"Hit the crystal!" Link briefly looked to Midna, who dove into his shadow. He moved a second too late. Ganon rammed into Link, his ribs cracking upon impact. Link yelled a battle cry to hide the pain which would serve only as a weakness. He fumbled for his bow and arrow and shot the glowing crystal on the beast's forehead. Ganon fell sideways, the bright scar showing. Link pierced the king's already injured skin with his blade. The pained boar rolled away from Link, smashing one if the pillars in the process. He got up and stampeded around the room, bringing down more pillars. Link looked up and wondered how much more strain the castle could take before it collapsed.

The rage-blinded fiend teleported away. Link looked around frantically, not wanting to be run over by Ganon again. He felt the light shift and saw the looming shadow of Ganondorf. Link rolled out of the way, struggling to get up afterward due to the pain of moving his broken bones. He clutched at his side, a deep purple bruise forming over the misshaped surface.

The evil beast teleported away again.

"He's changing his strategy! Not only can you not confuse him, but you won't be able to attack!" Midna informed Link. With a smirk, she relayed her idea to him. "Beast against beast! How about matching an evil beast against a sacred beast?!" Link wasn't sure he liked being referred to as a beast, but now wasn't the time to be picky. He let Midna transform him into a wolf before facing the rampant brute.

Link growled as he held his ground, Midna using her hair-hand to topple the demonic ogre that was Ganondorf. She threw him to the side, kicking Link lightly in the side to get him to attack. He winced. Even though that wasn't the side with briken bones, the vibrations sent sharp pains through the split bones. With a little hesitance, Link pounced on him, viciously biting at Ganon's wound. He growled loudly in response, rearing up on his hind legs in agony. After a little thrashing, Link was successfully throw from his side, who smacked right onto the wall. The wolf let out a little whimper as his head made contact with it, his body sliding down to the floor in a heap. The colossal pig fell the ground, the floor rumbling slightly as a result. Midna turned Link back into a human so he could better asses the damage. Groaning, Link held his head as he got up. He fished in his pocket and found one red potion. He took a small sip of it, should he find need of it again, and tucked it away. All it did was stop the pounding in his head, and make his side ache a little less.

The pair stared at Ganon's lifeless form. They did it! It was finally over! He wasn't moving, made no attempt to get up, so the duo assumed he was dead. Midna then began to glow. The specks of light left her body, floating on to air to Zelda. The Hylian's pale blue eyes fluttered open, scanning her surroundings with a slight smile. Aside from the trashed castle, Ganondorf seemed to be dead.

"Pr-Princess... I... I..." Midna stuttered, trying to begin an apology.

Looking up at the other princess Zelda smiled, "Say nothing, Midna..." she closed her eyes, contemplating on something, "Your heart and mine were as one, however briefly." Zelda looked at Midna before turning away, saddened, "Such suffering you have endured."

Midna looked at the ground as a few of the memories replayed in her head. Zelda stepped closer to Link, wanting to express her thanks. She blushed momentarily upon noticing how handsome he was, this being the first time she had seen him in human form. She recognized his eyes, the feral, vicious beast within him shining through them. The moment was cut short by a large electric sound. All three of them turned to the source of the sound. The ashes of Ganondorf began burning in an unnatural yellow fire, growing and smoking as it took on the shape of Ganondorf's head. The princess brought a hand up to her racing heart, truly terrified at what the evil king had turned into. Link stepped back, eyes wide and mouth open. He was supposed to be dead! Fear gripped him, its strong clutches leaving him stunned and useless. Midna stepped forward. Summoning the fused shadows, she, once again, began transforming into the Twilit arachnoid.

It all happened as if in slow motion. Link gasped and ran towards her, yelling at the top of his lungs to convince Midna to stop. He was literally inches away from her when he and princess Zelda burst into the twilight squares. Midna smiled sorrowfully at them before concentrating on the Shadows' power.

The manifestation of Ganondorf's hate growled menacingly at Midna. "Come at me then, if you so wish to be buried beneath the rubble of this castle!"

"Then consider this my dying wish!" Midna hovered at the top of the room, conjured a blade, and brought it down aggressively. Her debt towards Link and Zelda would be re-payed, even if it resulted in her death.

They reappeared in Hyrule Field. The princess and the hero briefly examined their surroundings. Looking toward the castle, they came to the same conclusion. They were too far away to help now. A large boom sounded from the castle, thick black smoke rising and blotting out the image of the castle. The pair watched as Ganondorf burst from the flames. He rode to them proudly, clutching Midna's helmet high above his head. His horse reared up on its hind legs, neighing loudly as it showed of it's rider.

"NO!" Link cried as the wicked warlock smashed Midna's helmet to pieces with little effort. "Midna..." They tumbled down the hill. He - that monster - killed Midna. He took Midna. That was it. Link thought he was angry before, but now he was livid. Link had never wanted to kill anything, but now, more than anything, Link wanted to slaughter the man. And he wouldn't rest until he did. Revenge never was part of Link's vocabulary, but now it was the only thing he could think of: he had to defeat the King of Theives.

Ganondorf began riding towards them, five ghostly riders following suit. Grunting, Link grasped his sword tighter, preparing for the inevitable combat. Zelda touched his arm, making him look at her. She didn't need to say anything for Link to understand. They were horribly outmatched. They were going to need some divine reinforcements.

The hell-bent villains charged at them, nearing closer and closer. "Spirits of the light!" Zelda prayed, "Wielders of the great power that shines far and wide across the lands of our world. In my hour of need, grant me the light to banish evil!" In the last second before Link and the princess, Zelda, would have been stampeded to the ground, they vanished in a flash of light.

Time froze, and they appeared in the same alternate dimension that Link always met the Hero's Shade in. However there was no background, no Hyrule Castle standing proudly in the far distance. The four light spirits cried out, their gifts, the mesmerizing balls of pure light, flying towards Zelda. They circled her before they condensed into the golden light arrows.

"Link," Zelda began, sadness etched onto her beautiful features, with the fire of determination burning withing her cold eyes. "Chosen Hero! Lend us the last of your power!" She took a step back, wanting badly to not have to be selfish and make him fight again. She bowed to him, showing him that right now, despite her status in the monarchy, he was superior to her. Link blushed, despite the circumstances, and held his palm out toward her. Relieved that he accepted her request, Zelda took his hand and the mysterious world faded away.

Epona was waiting for them when they reappeared. Link mounted, pulling Zelda on shortly after.

"I'll try to slow Ganondorf with my light arrows!" Zelda instructed, "Keep him within the range of my arrows!" Link laughed inwardly. He wouldn't dream of letting Zelda miss. He had to make that depraved murderer pay.

"Hyah!" Link yelled, spurring Epona forward. Ganondorf rushed by them, his ghostly minions charging after. They surrounded Epona, leaving the hero and the princess no way to get out. Link swung the long blade in an semi-circle, killing the first three. The dissipated into nothingness and the other two rode away. Cowards. Behind them, the Dark Lord approached, getting closer and closer by the minute. Link saw it coming. Ganondorf was planning on killing Zelda. He hadn't been able to protect Midna, but he would be able to protect this princess. He grabbed the reins, tugging Epona into the other direction. They spun around and were met by the large king. Link didn't have time to counter the attack, so instead he raised his shield to deflect to heavy sword.

"Link!" Zelda cried upon seeing her hero fall of his mount. She was met with a sickening snapping noise. Groaning, Link grabbed his ankle. He saw Ganondorf coming back for "round two", and felt the adrenaline pulsing through his veins. He hopped up - on his good leg - mounted Epona and sliced at Ganondorf. Gingerly, he placed his left foot into the stirrup.

"Are you o-"

"Fine," Link said through gritted teeth, cutting Zelda off.

"No, you are not 'fine'!" Zelda countered incredulously.

Link ignored her, trying to turn Epona around to face the tireless tyrant.

"I assume you have the Great Fairy's Tears with you. You should use it." Zelda said quietly, not wanting to argue with Link. She collected herself, regaining her royal composure, and pulled the bottle out of his adventure pouch. The last thing she needed was to panic.

"How did you know that?" Link wondered out loud before accepting the salty drink. After finishing it he felt so much better. Everything stopped hurting, except the raw emotions within him. Guilt, anger, sadness, rage. And all of it at the cost of that man. The man that he swore he would kill from the beginning, now within his reach, so close. He would kill him. Link's mind was in a haze, focusing on one thing, and one thing only; Ganondorf. Ganondorf had to die. Link laughed maniacally, driven by the sudden urge to spill the king's blood. Zelda stayed silent. She didn't want to snap him out of his focused, if not, murderous state. Though it was daunting, seeing Link completely out of character, in some sort of crazed phase, Zelda remained soundless, lest he turn on her. Who knew what that fairy put in the drink. Magic was a funny thing, she realized.

"Shoot now!"

Zelda was snapped from her thoughts by Link's order. She did as she as told, hitting Ganondorf square in the back. The electrifying power of the arrow stunned him, opening up a window of opportunity for the two. Link kicked Epona forward, landing some would be fatal blows, which, had Ganondorf not possessed near-godly power, should have injured him badly. Growling, Ganondorf surged forward, trying to get away. They followed closely, trying to stay directly behind their opponent. Zelda pulled back the string of her bow. She closed one eye, focusing on Ganondorf with lethal accuracy before releasing the arrow.

"Again!" Link's voice was commanding, so unlike his usual self. He was induced by the dizzying effects of the Great Fairy's Tears, making him a war-high killing machine. Zelda frowned. That may be a problem when it wore out. Reluctantly, Zelda fired again. One more shot...

Ganondorf writhed from his place on his dark steed. The horse buckled under the weight, collapsing underneath its rider, billowing clouds of dirt flying up. Zelda and Link held their breaths, apprehensive of what they'd see.

Laughter. Crazed, deranged laughter resonated. Ganondorf got up, hysterical all the while. Link's blood boiled and he squeezed the hilt of his sword. What did it take to keep that man down? Link snarled at Ganon, his wolf half getting the better of him. The Gerudo ceased his laughter abruptly.

"An impressive-looking blade." Link's knuckles turned white as his grip tightened. He would not be taken by surprise. Ganondorf continued, his voice holding a daring edge to it. "But nothing more." He unsheathed his own sword, the Sage's Sword. It glowed rhythmically, along with the scar it made on his chest. He held it out in front of him. It was massive, its sheer length being almost that of Link's height. It could no doubt do some immense damage. Link dismounted, holding out his own blade to face Ganondorf. He was grateful for the mystical healing powers of the Tears. He wouldn't even be able to stand had it not been for them.

"Would you hear my desire?" The dark man said, not caring if either of them wanted to hear his desire. Link screamed on the inside, he wanted badly to avenge Midna, to make amends with her. He had let her down. He had failed her. He had let her die. Any desire of Ganondorf's desires didn't matter right now. Killing him did. But Link knew he had to be patient, and instead took a confident step towards him, ready to accept his fate. The ultimate showdown between hero and evil; the fated battle. "To take this foul blade," he spat, injecting his poisonous hatred into each word, emphasizing his hate for the blade which had been used against him. "and use it to blot out the light of this world forever!" He walked closer to Link, closing the gap between the two, a devious smirk engraved into his face. Link resisted the urge to slap it off. Lightning flashed, and a twilit barrier formed around them, enclosing them within the small space. Epona reared up, whinnying in dismay. Zelda held onto the reins, trying to gently coax the horse to be calm. It was hard to help others when you too were not sure of if it was really alright. She wished she could tell Link something, anything, but her tongue stubbornly refused to work.

They stood for a second, each holding their ground, when all of a sudden, Ganondorf charged forward. He threw all his weight into that one swing, but instead of dodging - not that he could have, Ganon came at him too quickly - Link clashed blades. He struggled under the weight, the sheer bulk of the man, not to mention the speed he was coming at, making it increasingly difficult to counter. For Midna. Do it for Midna. Link repeated in his head, throwing Ganondorf off his blade. The king staggered backwards, which Link quickly used to his advantage. He slashed multiple times before Ganondorf back-flipped out of the way. The two parried, back and forth, each landing a few blows on each other. Link lowered his guard - just for a second - trying to catch his breath. Link was kicked his harshly in the side - the same side he already had broken ribs in. Yelping, he fell to the floor, right arm wrapped protectively around his rib cage.

"Down already, hero?" Ganondorf taunted, lazily gripping his sword, dangerously close to Link's face as he walked around casually. He brought it down, Link painfully rolling out of the way with another cry of pain. Nearly tripping over his own feet, Link got up, fumbling for the red potion he saved. Hastily rummaging through his bag, he dropped his fishing rod. Instead of attacking, Ganondorf stared, perplexed, at the item on the ground. Link gulped down the battle medicine, slashing Ganon from behind. He growled in response, spinning his blade in a circle to ward off further attacks. Link ducked, a lock of his hair getting nicked off by the blade. He somersaulted away, making sure to grab the fishing rod which held many sentimental values.

"Hmph. A little distracted are we, Ganondorf?" Link retorted, trying to keep his mind of the shooting pain that was beginning to burn throughout his body. The tears were loosing their effect. How long had they been battling? Link couldn't afford to look at the sky now. The minute he glanced up, Ganondorf would have ended him. Lightning blazed, illuminating the scene for a split second. Grinding his teeth, he shoved the fishing rod back in his pouch. It was too dark to tell anyways.

"Why you little-" Ganondorf seethed, not believing that he had been led astray by a mere toy.

Link twirled his blade as he circled Ganondorf, using his size to his advantage. He may not be as powerful as he was, but he was quicker. Much quicker. Zelda watched as the two fought for what seemed like a long time. She sat idly, not being able to help, and it frustrated her. She prayed for Link, asking Din to give him strength, Nayru to guide him correctly and Faroe to give him courage.

Then, the opposite of what she prayed for happened. After exchanging horizontal slashes many times, Ganondorf changed his strategy. He raised his sword high, Link taking the false opening. He thrust forward, lowering his defense and Ganon stuck. In one swift motion of his blade, Ganon nearly severed Link's right arm. Zelda's screams of horror were nothing compared to the blood curdling shriek Link let out. He felt it slice through his skin, snap his bones and tear his muscles apart. His arm dangled by his side, clinging on by a few pieces of skin and muscle. Link crumpled to his knees, mortified at what had just happened. Blood gushed out, drenching his tunic in the sticky substance. He couldn't look at it; he would definitely be sick if he did. The pain was searing, even breathing sent stinging jolts down his arm. He warily clutched his arm, trying to hold it in place so it didn't become totally dismembered. He whimpered at the slightest touch, knowing instantly that making a temporary cast would be very painful. Ganondorf just stood with a satisfied smirk at the crippled boy beneath him. He put up quite a fight, but he decided he wanted Link to just bleed out. Killing him now would be merciful; Ganondorf wanted Link's pain to last.

He turned away, looking to the skies; the goddesses. "Where's your hero now?!" he snickered. He started laughing, the same kind of unhinged laughter you'd expect from a madman or murderer. Of course, he was both, taking sick pleasure in the pain of others, not caring about who he killed to get what he wanted. "You'll die, just like your little Twili friend!" The last comment was directed at Link. Link clenched his jaw, and pulled off his hat. It was long, and would have to serve as sling for his arm for now. Tying it around his arm and neck as best he could with only one hand, Link got to his feet. There was a shooting pain in the ankle he had previously hurt, and he instantly felt light headed and weak upon standing. Zelda was horrified to find that his hat-sling was already beginning to drip blood. She stayed silent watching as Link darted in front of Ganondorf. That one moment of shock when Ganondorf saw Link was all he needed. With a final cry Link thrust his blade into Ganondorf. The Gerudo King screamed and clutched at his chest where the Master Sword was impaled. Despite all his strength he couldn't touch the Holy Blade.

Link stood, panting, a few feet in front of him. Ganondorf continued yelling, the sharp pain not letting up. Slowly, he got to his feet, and with a grimace he began, "Do not think this ends here..." He lunged forward, as if to hit Link one last time, but the pain in his chest prevented him from doing so. "The history of light and shadow will be written in blood!"

He could feel death sneaking up on him, sucking away his life force. He shakily raised his hand and watched as his part of the Triforce, power, slowly faded away.

His eerie gold eyes faded eyes half closed, as he began sinking into unconsciousness. There was a sudden cracking noise as Ganondorf's head jerked back and his eyes turned a pale foggy white, his irises barely visible, as if a thick cloud were blotting them out.

The Dark Lord perished still standing, a true show of his power.

Zelda bowed her head respectfully. She prayed that Din take mercy on his soul - for all he did, and his abuse of the power she entrusted to him. Link, on the other hand, collapsed on all fours. His breathing was rough and labored, quickly becoming a chore for him. Blood, his own and the mighty King's, soaked his clothes.

He squinted upward at the bright light up top the hill. The four light spirits, Ordona, Faron, Eldin, and Lanayru, hovered over a figure. They stared at him for a moment before fading away. The strange figure remained. Link peered at the image. It seemed to be in the shape of... Midna?

Ignoring the initial pain, Link scrambled to his feet and sprinted up the hill. He had to see, was it, by some miracle of the goddesses, really her? No, it couldn't be... he saw the castle explode, Ganondorf riding towards him triumphantly, Midna's helmet in hand.

The figure turned around and opened her dusty orange eyes, the colour of twilight; they were the same shade of Midna's. She had long orange hair which was highlighted in various spots, its orange colour reminiscent of the sun, dipping down past the horizon at sunset. She was twili - her blue - tinted skin and black robe adorned with glowing twili markings told him that much. The tall woman smirked in his direction, daring him to figure it out. Link knew that smirk very well.

The young hero gasped in disbelief. It was her! A wave of pain hit him, burning throughout his body. He heard her mumble something, but the spinning in his head persisted.

"What? Say something!" She smirked, "Am I so beautiful that you've no words left?"

Link barely heard anything. Still staring at her he croaked, "M-Midna?"

Before he could get a response he fell forward with a groan, the long, painful, battle with Ganondorf having taken its toll. He briefly saw the two worried princesses' standing over him before his eyes shut and unconsciousness claimed him.

And there you have it! Originally, this chapter was only 700 words or so, but I decided to write out the whole battle instead because I felt that this chapter was lacking compared to my other ones.
