"Leon?!" Chris is kneeling down, shaking his friend, unsure if he survived the fall or not.
Leon groans as he wakes into consciousness. His body is aching and the sun's rays are bright on his eyelids. He shields his face with his arm as he opens them, and Chris plops down onto the grass with a sigh.
"What happened?" Leon asks, the previous events jumbled in his foggy mind.
"You and that thing fought it out and you won." Chris tilts his head back, basking in the warm rays.
"And Wesker?"
Something tightens in Chris' throat. He has to swallow the lump in it before he can speak.
"Dead."
Chris gets to his feet and helps Leon up on wobbly legs, putting the ex-agent's arm around his shoulder to support him as they slowly make their way back towards the house. The two men stop a few feet away from Wesker's body.
"We should bury him." Leon says, removing his arm from Chris' shoulders. He leans down and pulls the Samurai Edge from Wesker's holster, the chrome gleaming in the sunlight.
Despite everything that had happened, all the false information about Leon being an enemy of the country had died with the head of security. Chris had confronted Hunnigan and the D.S.O about Leon's transformation, telling them how none of it had been Leon's fault and that he was still as valuable an asset to them as ever. He explained how everything had affected him, and that his increase of speed, strength, and intelligence would prove useful on a mission and even more so on the battlefield. The D.S.O. had reappointed Leon as an agent and Hunnigan talked to the B.S.A.A. giving the two men a much-needed vacation to a tropical island off the coast of Hawaii via a private jet. The option of having surgery to remove the appendages on his back arose, but Leon kindly turned it down. This was who he was now, and it was time he accepted it fully.
Leon crossed his arms, leaning on the balcony of their beach-front. After Wesker's death, he had spent a lot of time pondering his meaning in this world. Things were going to be tough, and he knew he would never be deemed 'normal' again. His lips twitched up in a smile as the warm breezed ruffled his feathers. Most people would call him a monster, some even an atrocity. But that didn't matter. What did matter were all the people that stood by his side, supporting him until the end. Jill, Hunnigan, Sheva, Alexander, Chris… Even if Wesker wasn't there, he knew in his heart that in the end, Wesker had cared for him too and that's all he ever wanted. Strong arms wrapped around his waist and Chris rested his chin on Leon's shoulder.
"Everything alright?" The brunette asks, nuzzling against Leon's soft hair.
"Yeah. Just zoned out, I guess."
"It's been a hectic month for you, huh?"
"My entire life has changed. For the better, I think."
Chris spins Leon around so his back is pressed against the balcony railing. Their eyes meet, and Leon can see Chris' chocolate brown eyes are filled with love as he leans in and seals Leon's lips in a passionate kiss. Leon's hands find their way to Chris' shoulders and he grasps at the fabric, returning the kiss tenderly. They are both panting when they pull apart, their eyes meeting once more.
"Thank you Chris. For everything." Leon smiles as Chris pulls him into a tight hug.
"Anything for you."
The dirt is pushed aside as a hand claws its way to the surface, then another. He's pulling himself up from six feet under, gasping and filling his lungs with fresh air. The wound in his chest is completely healed over. He instinctively reaches for his gun to find it's not in his holster. He gets to his feet, taking in his surroundings. Dense forest surrounds him for miles and his lips twitch in a smirk as he begins walking in an unknown direction.
"They should have known Albert Wesker cannot be killed so easily."
