The young, golden-haired man lay on the dusty battlefield. He was barely holding on the remaining scraps of consciousness. If he were able to look the left, he would see his best friend unconscious on a rock slab. If he were able to look right, he would see a young black-and-purple haired woman fighting a gigantic black dragon. But he could look neither left nor right. He could only look straight up at the face of another young woman who was desperately trying to heal him, but to no avail. The teenaged mage breathed out a few faint words. "Laeriss… use… the… key…" But as she fumbled around her neck for the small metal key, the last traces of color bled from his vision and he passed into the void.

Valkyrie's POV

I sat up quickly in my bed breathing heavily. As I calmed myself down, I ran my hands through my spiky, golden hair. Once my heart-rate had slowed sufficiently, I lay back on my bed, pondering what I had seen in that dream. Obviously the unconscious one was William Mors, my best friend. He is tall, bulky and built like a Vulcan. His wide shoulders and broad chest intimidates everyone he meets. He has short dark brown hair. His right eye is a dark silver-gray that flashes a brighter, steely silver when he is angry. His left eye is a deep, dark purple with a thick scar that runs right through the center. But I had never seen the two women before. I contemplated the fact that you can never dream about someone you have never seen. "I suppose that makes this a very unordinary dream. Perhaps I have inherited my mother's gift?" As Will blinked and stretched, looking over at me, I realized that I had spoken these words out loud. "You had a strange dream again?" He asked in a slow, sleepy voice. "This one was different." I said firmly. "How so?" Will questioned. "There were these two women in it. I had never seen them before in my life. According to Solem, and numerous psychology books, that is physically impossible." "That is unusual. Maybe you saw them in a town when we were on a job?" I shook my head as I rose from the bed and walked to the small bathroom. "I am one hundred percent sure I have never glimpsed them. Ever." Will looked at me strangely. "One of them, named Laeriss, had my key. It is obvious she is special." "Then you might be right." "About what?" I glanced back at him questioningly. "You may have inherited your mom's gift of seeing the future."
