It Hurts

A/N: Here is my short reply to 9x07. Dean's POV. Written in about fifteen minutes so I apologize ahead of time if the quality is a bit lacking ;)

Disclaimer: I own NOTHING!

It hurts, his heart, as he meanders the Impala past the time-worn sign announcing what the words written there and the farm represent; Sonny's Home for Boys. While Meaningless to most, the average Joe probably not even wasting a second glance at the property or what it stands for, it had meant everything to the younger version of himself.

It had spoke to him loudly, without making a sound; a sanctuary that sheltered him from the storm that had encased him in it's grip since that fateful night, as he clutched his baby brother in his arms and watched his house and innocence burn to the ground, leaving only ashes and charred remains in its wake.

It hurts, his head, as he approaches the entrance to the building; it seems to mock him cruelly, this beautiful haven that teased a young Dean Winchester with a life he was never destined to have.

It hurts, the way he can feel his younger brother's eyes on him, scanning the side of his face, hoping he will offer something up about his time within these walls. But he can't; keeps his eyes averted from his sibling's gaze, a flood of memories released to cascade unfettered through his mind.

Unable to stop himself from recalling the warmth and happiness that shrouded him all those years ago, he forces himself to focus on what has brought them here and what he is an expert in; death.

As he says he goodbyes, again, he silently wishes he had never come to know what had lain across the threshold of this place; peace, happiness, love, success.

His brother was not the only one who had a taste of it; of what life could be, what life had to offer besides drills, training and killing evil with precision and purpose. He too once had dreams and hopes for his future, and a life without the hunt.

It hurts, his heart, as the déjavu sets in and the Impala carries him off, down the same road and back to the same uncertain future.

End. Thanks for stopping by.
