Intrusion

Chapter 9

Coulson and May were not exactly taken aback by the Doctor's claim to be able to rearrange his DNA and come back to life. After all, they dealt with meta-humans like Deadpool, Spider-Man and Wolverine that had "healing factors" which helped them recover quickly from injuries. Still, for him to completely come back to life as a new person? That would be something else entirely. And of course, if he was wrong, the team would be stuck there, at the mercy of the Daleks. So, both of them just watched, with fear and interest.

After the Doctor shot himself, he fell to the floor. Clara finally broke past Fitz and Simmons and ran towards him. She got down on her knees beside him.

"Please…..don't go…" she sniffled in between sobs. The Doctor looked up at her, gave her a little warm smile, and then shut his eyes.

Skye, still recovering from her quake attack, went next to Fitz and Simmons. "Do you think he was right?"

"Well….." the two scientists were about to give their verdict, when the glow came.

It was a magnificent glow, emanating from the Doctor's body. The SHIELD team had never seen anything like it. It grew brighter and brighter, so bright that they had to shield their eyes. And then, a massive outburst of energy came and overtook them. Simmons was amazed. It felt as if a bomb had just exploded a few feet away, yet her body felt no physical effect; no recoil, no shrapnel damage, nothing. She turned to Fitz and Skye in amazement, and confirmed that they too felt the same way.

The glow began to die down and Skye turned back towards the Doctor's body…and nearly fainted.

There, on the floor, next to a crying Clara, was the body of a stranger. He had grey hair, a wrinkled face, and huge eyebrows.

"My God…" whispered Coulson "He was right".

Suddenly, the arm of the stranger came up and patted Clara on the shoulder. He sat up and looked around. He noticed his visitors, cocked his head, and then pointed at May.

"You, Little Miss Ninja, fetch mae a mirror."

May was taken aback at being addressed like that, but since the man did just do something that she previously thought was next to impossible, she went to look for a mirror.

The stranger stood up and helped Clara up. He looked into her tear-laden eyes with curiosity.

"'s like they inflate." He muttered and patted Clara on the shoulder again. "Come, come m'dear, don't cry."

Skye, who had recovered fully now, was about to go into her Kojak routine again, when Fitz stopped her and went to talk to the man.

"Doctor?"

"Yes?" He turned to face Fitz. "Dinna I know you?"

Fitz went quickly around the room with the names and the Doctor smiled, painfully. It was clear that he was not as social as the previous gentleman that they had met. May returned with the mirror and the Doctor took a look.

"Yeesh….these eyebrows could kill. They should be put in an eyebrow detention center."

Just then, the scanner was alerted. "The Daleks again" whispered Clara.

"WHAT!" screamed the Doctor. He then suddenly smacked his head." We're on Skaro" smack "the tractor beam" smack "mae DNA" He was about to smack his head again, when Clara stopped him.

"There will be time for that later. Let's get out of here!"

The Doctor agreed. He ran around to the accelerator and pulled it. This time the noise did not cut off. It was music to the SHIELD team's ears. Simmons and Skye went to hug the Doctor, but he recoiled. Clearly not a hugger.

"Now" said the Doctor. "We have to get you puddin' brains back to Earth. Let me set tha coordinates." He entered some numbers on a keypad and pressed a big blue button.

Coulson and the others were so happy to be going home that they completely disregarded being called pudding brains.

A few minutes later, they felt a thud.

"We've landed." said the Doctor.
