When Sam walked into the tiny coffee shop, he was immediately hit with the smell of fresh coffee and baked goods. There were booths lining the entire restaurant, there were a few tables and 'comfy' chairs. He saw a bigger booth in the corner that was right by the fireplace. "Do you want to grab that corner booth and I'll order?" He suggested to Kevin. The smaller man nodded eagerly and went to sit down while Sam got in line behind a group of teenage girls. He felt a buzz in his pocket and pulled out his phone to see that he had gotten a text from Dean. Apparently he would be home earlier than expected, and he would be bringing Cas with him. Oh, just great, Sam thought. I guess we were going to have to tell Cas eventually, too. At least this way we can do it all at once.
It was finally his turn to order. "Hi there, what can I get for you today?" the boy behind the counter asked.
"Can I get a large London Fog and a medium caramel soy latte? That's everything." Sam handed the boy the money. The employee handed Sam a number and told him that his order would be brought out when it was ready. Sam took the number to his booth and slid in across from Kevin. "Dean is coming home early," he told Kevin. "And Cas is coming, too."
"Oh, do you still want to do it tonight?" Kevin asked.
"Yeah, I mean, Cas is family, too. He deserves to know," Sam answered. "I think we should just get some pizzas, get some grease in Dean's stomach so he's happy, and then tell them." Kevin agreed. "I'll text Dean to see what time they'll be here." Sam was already tapping the text message into his phone.
Their drinks came right as Sam pressed send. "Okay, but what exactly are we going to say to Dean and Cas? What is this, exactly?" Kevin pressed. "What kind of label does our relationship have to you?"
"I... I don't know. I haven't really thought about labelling our relationship. I know it's complicated to think about, but what I feel for you isn't. I love you, Kevin, and I think that's all that matters," Sam blushed once he realized exactly what he had just said. He looked down and fiddled with his coffee cup.
"I love you too, Sam," Kevin murmured softly, turning his head to look at Sam's face. Sam looked up and smiled. "We can just say that we're dating to make it easier..."
"Sure... that sounds great," Sam nodded. He felt his phone vibrate again, so he checked his texts. "Dean says they'll be here in about 45 minutes. Do you want to go for a walk and pick up the pizza so we'll be home about 5 minutes before they are?" Kevin agreed, so they got up and threw out the paper cups.
The air outside was cool and crisp. Kevin and Sam meandered up and down the streets, not going anywhere in particular, just enjoying each other's presence. It wasn't long before their fingers were intertwined. The two of them just seemed to fit together perfectly. Sam always felt so comfortable with Kevin, it was easy to just be there, in the moment, no worries going through his head.
They headed back towards the car and drove to the pizza place. Kevin ran in to pick up the pizzas they'd ordered. It didn't take long before he was back in the car and they were driving back to the bunker. The smell of dough and hot cheese filled the car. When they pulled into the garage, they noticed that the Impala was already there. Sam swallowed hard. "You ready?" He looked at Kevin, who squeezed his hand as reassurance. "Dean?" Sam called out once they were inside. "Cas?"
"Heya, Sammy, Kevin. Got the pizza?" Dean asked.
"You bet," Kevin responded, placing the boxes on the table. "One pepperoni, one cheese. Eat up!"
All four sat around the table, Dean devouring slice after slice of pizza. Sam was too nervous to eat, he was picking at the piece on his plate. He made eye contact with Kevin and Kevin nodded slightly. "Dean, Cas, we have something we really need to talk to you about," Sam started, his voice shaky. He took a deep breath and Kevin put his hand on the larger man's knee for encouragement. "Kevin and I are... well, we're dating... er, together, whatever you want to call it." Sam could still feel the lump in his throat, he wasn't really sure how Dean was going to react.
Dean put down his slice of pizza. Cas didn't say anything, just sat at the table with a confused look on his face. "You two? Together?" Dean's face was scrunched up, thinking. "How long?" He asked after a couple of minutes, finally breaking the silence.
"A few months," Sam stammered. "At first we didn't really know what it was, and we didn't really know how to tell you..." Sam didn't dare look at his brother's face. He could feel his heart pounding as he waited for Dean to say something.
"I can't say I'm too surprised. You're both huge nerds," Dean teased. Sam looked up and saw Dean smiling. "As long as you're happy, I'm happy." Sam let out a sigh of relief and he felt as though a giant weight had been lifted off of his chest.
They finished off the rest of the pizza and threw the boxes in the garbage. "So, do you want to watch a movie or something?" Dean suggested. They agreed and went to Dean's room to watch the movie. His was the only room with a couch. Dean chose the movie, some old comedy that Sam didn't care to catch the name of. He was still relieved at how well everything had gone over, and now he felt a bit foolish that he was so nervous.
Kevin and Sam sat on the couch, the prophet nestled into Sam's side comfortably. "Hey! No funny business, you two," Dean smirked as he sat on the other end of the couch.
The movie was okay, obviously not Kevin's favourite as he fell asleep before they reached the halfway point. Sam didn't even remember what the movie was about, he spent most of his time watching Kevin. When the movie was done, Sam gently picked Kevin up to bring him to his room. "Goodnight, lovebirds," Dean whispered, smiling at his brother. Dean didn't want to admit it, but he was jealous of what Sam and Kevin had. He could tell just by looking at them that they were really serious, and it made Dean wish that he had someone of his own.
Sam didn't feel like walking all the way to Kevin's room, so he just went to his own. He softly laid Kevin down on his bed and kissed his forehead. Kevin let out an incoherent mumble as a his lips curled up into a tender smile.
