'You are cordially invited to the wedding of Ms Rebekah Mikaelson Mr Stefan Salvatore...'

'I wonder how Rebekah would feel if I wore my hair down, this up do she has picked for us...' Katherine sighed heavily, 'It's very Upper East side and I'm more of a Midtown woman.'

'You live on East 66th street, which is the Upper East Side.' Caroline replied without looking up from her phone.

Katherine shrugged, 'Fine let me look like a disaster,' She turned to the makeup artist who opened a large kit, 'I don't care what she said about lip colour, I am wearing red lipstick or clear gloss, do not come near me with any hue of Rebekah pink.'

Caroline bit her lip to keep from laughing at the makeup artists' expression.

'Where's Bon Bon?' Katherine inquired.

'She finished her hair and makeup just before you arrived and then disappeared.' Caroline knew her friend was feeling weird about today, knowing she would have to see Kol again.

'Well once she makes it back to the room on time for the ceremony, I don't want Rebekbride to lose it on all of us.'

"Caroline laughed, 'Rebekah hasn't been that bad.'

Katherine huffed, 'Easy for you to say! You're carrying her niece or nephew so she goes easy on you, I had to go to three meetings about floral arrangements. Flowers Caroline!'

A flurry of white stormed into the room, 'I know guests are arriving soon but have you seen where Marsha the supposedly elite wedding planner has put the guest book? At the front door! I told her I wanted it somewhere the guests came across during the festivities not as some tacky entrance requirement!' Rebekah moved quickly around the room, inspecting the progress of the ladies hair and makeup, 'Caroline you're done why aren't you in your dress?!'

Caroline and Katherine remained silent as they took in Rebekah in her lace wedding gown, her blonde hair half swept up in her veil, her makeup subtle and elegant.

'You look incredible Rebekah.' Caroline grabbed a tissue to dab the sides of her eyes.

'Stefan is going to lose his mind.' Katherine agreed.

Rebekah's features softened, 'Really?'

Caroline beamed before standing up from her seat, 'One million percent, now let's go get you married!'

The ballroom was magical. There was no other way to describe it. A large gilded dance floor was surrounded by intimate round tables full of impeccably dressed guests.

The jazz band were currently playing an upbeat number that Bonnie remembered hearing as a child. Her grandmother loved music and the arts, a love she passed to her granddaughter.

Bonnie took a deep breathe in, she so desperately wanted to enjoy this moment and the beauty of her friends wedding. Stefan and Rebekah could have not look happier than when they exchanged vows not an hour before.

The whole morning of excitement and nerves before the ceremony had been a welcome distraction from her mind, but now Bonnie was stood on the outskirts of the room, champagne flute in hand, and the chatter alive once again inside her head.

The last few months had been rough, and she still didn't know if she was making the right decision by staying away from Kol. But she knew Kol was a flame, a bright glowing flame that could consume her if she let him.

Bonnie took another long sip, spying Stefan and Rebekah feeding each other small chocolates on the other side of the room.

Bonnie laughed to herself before muttering, 'Ew.'

'You look magnificent.' A voice she knew all too well spoke from behind her.

Bonnie turned to meet Kol's eyes, he looked tired and possibly tipsy considering the shake of his hand holding a glass of brown liquid.

Despite this, Bonnie felt a warmness at the sight of him but also that familiar knot of fear in her stomach. Kol made her feel things she had never felt before, and a lack of control did not suit Bonnie.

'Only you could compliment someone when you are only looking at their back.' Bonnie replied with a small smile, determined to keep their conversation light.

Kol smiled, looking slightly relieved, 'If I said you look good from every angle would I get slapped?'

Bonnie laughed, 'Not if it's true.'

'No need for physical violence then.' Kol chuckled before speaking again, this time Bonnie noticed a drop in his voice, 'I wanted to apologise Bonnie, for the last time we spoke at my mothers dinner.'

Bonnie stayed quiet, unsure what to say.

'It is not a positive attribute of mine but I am used to getting what I want.' Kol laughed again, a note of bitterness evident, 'I guess I don't handle it well when I don't.'

Bonnie struggled to meet his eyes, her hands tightened around her glass, 'I'm sorry for the dinner too, I was angry, mostly at myself.'

After a few beats of silence, Kol spoke again, 'So you and Luca are?' There was no malice in his voice but he sounded like he already knew the answer.

Bonnie nodded and took a sip of champagne.

Kol rubbed the back of his neck, not used to feeling awkward around Bonnie, 'How is your new job?'

'It's good, it's a smaller company but they have some exciting projects for me to work on.'

'That's good.' Kol drank from his glass before continuing, 'Do you think we could get a drink sometime and talk?'

'I don't know if that's a good idea.'

'As friends?' Kol offered.

Bonnie then smiled again but it didn't reach her eyes, 'Is that even possible?'

'You tell me.' Kol spoke lowly, taking a step closer to Bonnie.

Bonnie felt the heat of his presence and her eyes closed, 'I'm sorry Kol but I don't think it's a good idea. We're too different.'

Kol shook his head, 'I don't see that."

Bonnie looked up at him, her eyes brimming with tears, 'I feel guilt. When I look at you I remember what I did, to Luca and to myself. I've never cheated on anyone and I didn't even know I was capable of it. I know it's not fair but everytime I see you I don't like myself.'

As soon as the words left her mouth Bonnie regretted them, she had no right to pile the feelings she was working through on Kol but she found it so difficult to not tell him the truth.

Kol's face was unreadable, his jaw tightened before he nodded, 'I hear you loud and clear. Goodbye Bennett.'

Kol walked way as Bonnie's eyes filled with unshed tears.

'Hey friend' Caroline appeared at Klaus's side with a smirk on her face.

Klaus smiled tightly 'Hmm indeed, hello Caroline.'

Finn and Elijah exchanged a look before taking turns kissing Caroline on both cheeks and complimenting her appearance.

'How is the company Caroline? I saw the recent setment on GMA.' Finn began conversing with his former sister in law as Elijah smiled at Klaus.

Klaus glared back at his older brother before kicking him under the high table.

The champagne flutes wavered on the table which caught Caroline's attention.

'Did you just kick Elijah?' Caroline narrowed her eyes at her ex husband.

Klaus mirrored her facial expression, 'And why do you assume it was me who kicked Elijah and not the other way around.'

Caroline grinned, 'I was married to you for the best part of a decade.'

Elijah and Finn began to laugh as Klaus pursed his lips.

'Caroline I've already had to help Bridezilla go to the bathroom twice in that dress. Pregnant or not pregnant the next round is on you.' Katherine announced as she joined the group.

The brunette placed a soft kiss on her husband before whispering, 'How much do you hate my hair?'

Elijah smiled softly before stroking her cheek, 'You look beautiful.'

Katherine smiled back at Elijah before Klaus interrupted, 'I think you should wear it like that all of the time Kathy.'

Katherine opened her mouth to bare her teeth at Klaus's sniggering before turning to Caroline, 'The photographer wants to do some 'candids' of us outside with Rebekah.'

Caroline nodded, 'See you later boys.'

The women linked arms before making their way through the crowd of pastel coloured dresses and bespoke tuxes before disappearing from sight.

Finn chuckled as Caroline walked away 'What was all that friend?'

'Don't even start.' Klaus glowered.

'Oh didn't you hear? About a week ago Klaus told Caroline he wanted them to be friends.' Elijah smirked before taking a sip of champagne.

'Friends.' Finn pondered the word, 'I don't believe you have ever had a female friend, let alone one you've already-'

'Yes, yes I know, it was a stupid thing to suggest. I don't even want to be her friend.' Klaus downed the rest of his drink.

Elijah shook his head, 'Well what do you want? Caroline is six months pregnant with your child. Now is not the time for games.'

'I'm not playing games. She divorced me-'

'Because you were a selfish prick.' A fourth voice joined the conversation.

'Kol.' Elijah warned at the sight of his younger brother.

Kol was dressed immaculately but his dead behind the eyes gaze told a different story.

'No, no let him finish. I would love to get relationship advice from our resident bachelor. How is Bonnie these days?' Klaus smiled before Kol lunged towards him.

'I'm going to-' Kol started before Finn grabbed one of his shoulders and spoke quietly in his ear.

A few neighbouring guests eyes descended on the band of brothers and whispers were already being exchanged.

'Think of Rebekah.' Finn spoke again, this time a little louder, 'Both of you.'

Kol shrugged out of Finn's grasp and stumbled to the side.

Elijah moved to help his younger brother but Kol pushed him away.

'I don't want to be here anyway.' Kol announced before swiping the bottle of champagne sitting on the high table and walking into the sea of guests.

'Well that went well.' Klaus downed the rest of his drink before slamming the glass on the white cloth covered table.

'You're both having a difficult time right now, you should be supporting each other not bloody fighting.' Finn sighed, sounding exasperated at his two youngest brothers antics.

'I don't see how my ex wife having our child is the same as an office crush. He is being immature as always and I'm not entertaining his dramatics anymore.' Klaus replied coolly before walking away.

'Did he not just dramatically storm away from us?' Finn blinked.

Elijah rolled his eyes before clapping Finn's shoulder, 'Aren't you glad you moved to Connecticut?'

Caroline tried to massage her feet discreetly under the table.

It was 11pm and Caroline was thinking of her escape plans. Normally the night would only beginning for her at a wedding but things were different when you were unable to drink and carrying a energy sucking entity.

Couples were spinning across the dance floor. Caroline was particularly enjoying the sight of Stefan and Esther dancing, the groom looked about as comfortable as he did the day Caroline asked him to be her lawyer for her divorce.

Katherine sat across from Caroline at the table, her long curls now loose around her shoulders.

'What happened to your hair?'

Katherine smirked, 'Same thing that caused the bump in your dress.'

Caroline rolled her eyes, 'My god, what is with the Mikaelson men and their anywhere but a bed antics.'

'More fun that way.' Klaus replied.

Katherine choked on the champagne she was drinking at Klaus's arrival.

Caroline smiled tightly, trying not to cringe at him hearing their conversation, 'What's up?'

'Would you like to dance?' Klaus asked, extending his hand to his ex wife.

'Okay.' Caroline replied, sounding unsure of the decision as she took his hand.

Katherine's smirk grew as she watched the fair headed pair make their way to the dance floor.

The music changed as they found a spot in the sea of dancers.

Klaus smiled, 'One of your favorites.' He place his right hand on her hip and clasped his left hand with hers.

Caroline listened to the familiar notes of La Vie en Rose and smiled, 'One of Stefan's too, I may have enjoyed my bridesmaid task of music selection too much.'

'It's a beautiful wedding. Rebekah looks nearly as beautiful as you did as a bride.'

Caroline rolled her eyes, 'She would have your tongue for that comment.'

Klaus turned his gaze to his dance partner, 'Do you remember our original wedding plans? After we became engaged?'

Caroline laughed lightly before shaking her head, 'A beach wedding at sunset? Yes I do, I also remember Esther's face when I told her. The thought of her Niklaus marrying a girl from nowhere-ville Virginia was bad enough, nevermind to be barefoot when doing so!'

'She grew to love you, despite being from nowhereville Virginia.' Klaus teased.

'Hey!' Caroline smacked his shoulder lightly, 'And she grew to tolerate me.'

They continued to dance as Klaus led them in graceful spins to the melody, his gaze was serious as he observed the felt his mood shift, 'Is everything okay?'

'I fought with Kol earlier. I haven't seen him since.'

'What did you fight about?'

'Who knows with Kol?' Klaus responded, still not meeting Caroline's stare.

'Hmm. You two have been fighting a lot lately, is it about what happened with Bonnie?'

'In part I suppose. We just aren't seeing eye to eye.'

'He will come around, he always does.' Caroline said reassuringly.

Klaus didn't comment but continued to appear glum.

'You know it's a wedding, it wouldn't kill you to smile.'

'I'm smiling on the inside.' Klaus replied.

'Okay sure.' Caroline said sarcastically.

Klaus looked at her with a steady gaze, 'I'm always happy when I'm with you.'

Caroline frowned, unsure where he was going with this, 'Not sure how accurate that is.'

'The happiest years of my life was when I was married to you Caroline.' Klaus replied earnestly.

'I'm confused, why are you saying these things? How much whiskey have you had?'

'Because it's how I feel. How do you feel?' Klaus watched her intently, 'About us?'

'Us?' The pitch of Caroline's voice heightened, 'Why do I feel like I missed a conversation? The last time we spoke about our dynamic you said you wanted to be friends.'

'I don't know if I can be just your friend. To be in your life part time like this, I don't think I can do it. We're having a baby.'

'So what, you're saying this because we're having a baby?'

'Caroline, you know I have always wanted to be with you, I have felt that way since I first laid eyes on you. The baby has nothing to do with that.'

Caroline felt her throat tighten, 'That's not fair to say, to say I know that. Actions speak louder than words Klaus. The last few years of our marriage- it felt like you didn't even want to be with me.' Caroline whispered furiously.

Klaus eyes burned as they tore into Caroline's, 'I took you for granted. I was so sure you were mine forever that I forget to remind you of how I felt.'

Caroline drew in a breath as he tightened his hold on her hip.

'Give me a chance to remind you again.'

Despite his previous words Caroline was shocked at his request. Her hands gripped the material of his tux as a way to hold on to reality.

'Klaus I-' Caroline stopped dancing and stood back, 'I-'

'Mind if I have a spin with my best friend?' Stefan appeared beside them.

The groom glanced between the pair, Caroline looked pale and Klaus was staring at her anxiously.

Caroline's gaze snapped out of her daze, 'If you will excuse me I need the restroom.' The blonde disappeared from sight within seconds.

Klaus stood watching her retreating figure, fignting the urge to run after her.

'What is going on?' Stefan asked.

Klaus looked at his friends worried expression, 'Nothing mate.' Klaus grabbed his shoulder, 'Come on let's get you a drink.'

He decided he would look for Caroline after she was done in the restroom, if she would still talk to him.

The summer breeze cooled Caroline's warm body as she sat on the front step of the castle. The ballroom had suddenly felt like the sun after Klaus's declaration.

Despite knowing the man for years he could still take her by surprise. Caroline was feeling every emotion and was trying to decipher what was her true feelings and what was pregnancy hormones.

Her mind raced as she tried to think of the facts. Klaus and her didn't work, they fought, they both gave up when things became difficult. She couldn't blame Klaus alone for that.

She also knew he was the only person she has ever felt at home with, but it had been a long time since she had felt that. Was it even possible for her to feel it again?

A noise in the dark disturbed her thoughts.

Caroline stood up and peered into the darkness, 'Hello?'

In the distance she saw a pair of headlights turn on in the designated parking area.

She recognised the car as soon as the lights came on, she knew only one person who had a canary yellow Porsche.

Making her way over to the vehicle, Caroline's vision became clearer as she spotted Kol in the driver seat.

Kol turned at the sound of knocking on the glass and after spotting Caroline he begrudgingly rolled down the window.

'What are you doing?' She asked.

Kol rolled his eyes before holding up his phone, slurring slightly as he spoke, 'Clearly trying to find the closest hotel on the map.'

Caroline narrowed her eyes, 'Kol Mikaelson, I know you were not planning on driving after the amount you have been drinking.'

Kol remained silent.

'I can't believe you!' Caroline exclaimed.

'Caroline I can't stay here any longer. Removing myself from the party is best for everyone, not just me.' Kol replied quietly.

Caroline took in his somber demeanour, looked back at the castle for a brief moment before making a decision, 'How far is the closest hotel?'

'Nine minutes.'

'For the love of- move over I will drive you.'

"Kol began to object, 'Caroline no-'

'Kol, just because I'm pregnant doesn't mean I can't kick your ass, now move.'

'This was the most perfect day.' Rebekah smiled dreamily into her new husbands' eyes as they danced.

'With the perfect woman how could it not be the perfect day.' Stefan replied.

'Oh brother.' Katherine mumbled into Elijah's shoulder as they danced close by the newly married couple.

'Behave.' Elijah whispered.

Katherine drew back, her eyes sparkled, 'Or what?'

Elijah chuckled before his gaze landed on his parents who were also dancing nearby.

Elijah could see his father was frowning deeply and he followed his fathers line of sight across the room. Jason, Head of Security for the Mikaelson family was striding across the dancefloor in the direction of Mikael.

Elijah took hold of Katherine's hand and moved them in the direction of his father. He noticed Klaus had spotted Jason and his brother was making his way over too.

Jason reached Mikael at the same time as Elijah and Klaus did.

Mikael nodded at Jason who began speaking, 'Mr Mikaelson, I'm so sorry but there's been an accident.'
