Their lips met in a rush, and the first thing she noticed was that Mulan's were hard and rough.
Callouses and cracks marred the gentle pink skin that had been baked by the long days in the sun and tempered hard by nights spent traveling the woodlands. But, as Aurora slid the tip of her tongue past Mulan's teeth, she realized that Mulan seemed strangely and sadly sweet. Her tongue tasted the sea after a rainstorm upon the warrior's parted lips. Raw, hungry, desperate— yet calmed merely by Aurora's gentle touch. The word that came to Aurora's mind in a clamor of syllables and letters was 'Reassembled'.
Strong, yet with equal parts of weakness and hurt woven in.
And, indeed, the kiss itself felt as though it was making them both anew. Fire and thrumming pulses were slowly forging them, joining them together solidly as one…
Somewhere far off, an old barn owl chittered its displeasure to the waning crescent moon, ruffling its feathers indignantly at these strange two-legged intruders—- but none payed it any mind. The warrior and the princess were far beyond hearing; far beyond any touch of the mortal realm. Lost, eternally entangled—lips, arms, and hearts. Bodily claiming the other as their own.
"Don't you ever do that again." Aurora gasped, breaking the kiss with a sob. Her voice cracked in the chill night air as hot tears pricked at the corners of her eyes. She blinked them away, determined not to cry. She gazed into Mulan's face, searching for any trace of answers as her watery irises danced with reflected starlight.
Mulan hummed, closing her eyes to bury her face into Aurora's rusty tresses. The warrior breathed deep, as if trying to soak the princess's presence into her very pores.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
