Outline

Zeus reign was always corrupt; never as bad as the other Kings of the Gods, but still bad. But always moving towards improvement.

Humanity's goal is to progress towards the "perfect human" – Each step is in that direction.

Immortal and mortal realms reflect each other.

But moving towards perfection never means that perfection is achieved; monsters represent the struggle humanity faces every day from its basest instincts to reign supreme. Humanity must constantly battles these monsters, both internal and external, in order to preserve civilization, and heroes do the literal fighting, symbolic of what is actually happening in the philosophical sense.

Under the reign of Zeus, Fort Olympus itself is heavily flawed. The following need to be reformed.

It's wrong to hide heroes from the rest of the world. Heroes are humanity's defense against the monsters lying underneath. This law needs to be reformed. Fort Olympus' training will mean nothing to these demigods if they don't use it.

Permanent members of council are a bad idea. Eventually these ten will die, and who will then take over their roles? The reform here is to get rid of their positions and then change the law so that all twenty members are elected by the demigods, and the two nonvoting members will, as always, be chosen by the Gods through Apollo.

All twenty members are to be voted on each summer solstice. The Marshall of Fort Olympus will be elected by Council a week after their taking office, and the Marshall will be confirmed by a Fort-wide plebiscite. If the Marshall is overturned by popular vote, the process is repeated until someone is validated by both the Council and the Fort at large.

Independent Judiciary must be set up. It is a huge conflict of interest to have the Council serve as the Judiciary. The Judiciary is set up with a Supreme Court to serve as the final court of appeals and arbitration with the power of judicial review for both Fort Olympus and Thebes. There will be six sitting justices – three Greek and three Roman – and they will serve for ten years. To get the council approve something, there must be a majority of both the Greek and Roman halves of the council in majority opinion. The justices can be impeached by the citizens of Fort Olympus and Thebes by appealing the Council.

After torturing them for one more night, Eros lets Reyna and Nico go. He warns them that they have exactly three days to prepare before he marches on Fort Olympus with his armies behind him, including all four of the winds. He tells them to go to Paris immediately where they will find the Argo II and their companions near the Arc de Triomphe. Zephyr takes Nico and Reyna to Paris to save them time.

Zephyr drops them off near the Arc de Triomphe, and Percy sees them. Percy lets them on, and Nico orders them all to get back on the ship and immediately get to Fort Olympus.

They arrive back in Fort Olympus in a few hours. Annabeth meets them and tells them that the Palladium has been placed in the Main Temple. She informs them that she was unable to reach either Athena or Minerva and that she could only reach Britannia through prayer. She tells them that Britannia is a vicious goddess.

Nico and Reyna tell them what Eros had warned them: He would be marching on Fort Olympus with his armies in three days' time. He told them to prepare immediately.

Annabeth tells them that she had finished the books Nico sent back. She and Nico now explain the entire story to the Council. The real "kingmaker" of the universe was no one other than Eros. Chaos was the first thing, but Eros was what caused everything to create order through his force of attraction. Ever since, every King of the Gods that had fallen had been judged to have gone wrong and immoral by Eros. Eros called the shots in that regard. He now believed that Zeus, too, had become too corrupt and needed to be replaced. He was bringing into action the last prophecy of Gaea: That Zeus would be replaced by his oldest child through Metis.

That night, the guys are woken up by an incessant crying sound outside their accommodation. They open the door and are surprised to find a baby girl in a basket sitting on their doorstep. The guys are confused until Nico nearly faints from shock. He tells them to look at her eyes. They notice that the baby's eyes are a stunning grey – the usual color of a child of Athena's. Frank asks who is the father. Nico gets a scowl but answers himself. Everyone is shocked, but they notice a small notecard saying the same thing.

By this time, the girls come as well, and Percy explains what happens. Annabeth takes a closer look at her newest, youngest sibling, and she tells Nico to take good care of her. Nico just scowls but agrees. Athena had given him her greatest blessing: The children of Athena are a blessing from the goddess onto the mortal men she favored. He recognized this and vowed that treat his daughter the best he could, despite the upcoming war.

Hera comes down to explain things to them. She tells the Council that Olympus is in turmoil with Zeus recovering and the entire city gone. Annabeth asks her why they needed to bring the Palladium back to bring peace. Hera explains that the Ages cannot chance without all of the gods being fully united; the Fifth Age, the Rule of Zeus, could not be replaced unless Britannia had fully merged into Athena. This entire quest was to do just that so that the newest ruler of Olympus could take over.

Nico asks her why Athena had blessed him. She tells him that Athena appreciated his military and tactical genius as well as his talent at problem solving.

Hera then leaves saying that she can't leave Olympus for too long, or it would descend into civil war.

Annabeth goes back to the books she received and rereads certain passages. She realizes that the biggest problem of instability under Zeus' reign was that he took the throne against the Ancient Laws. She takes her news to the Council.

The Council tells the Fort to prepare for war.

Annabeth tells the Council of her latest discoveries. Percy asks her to elaborate. She says that Zeus never had a birthright claim to the throne. He was the youngest of the children of Kronos and Rhea. The Ancient Laws had decreed that in order to ascend the throne of the gods, said god must be the oldest of his siblings – Zeus is the youngest. Kronos was able to do so despite being the youngest because all of his siblings gave up their birthright. Zeus' five older siblings, though, merely voted him in. They had never given up their birthright.

Piper realizes that this means that the throne of Olympus actually belongs to Hestia.

Annabeth says not exactly. She says that since Zeus has been on the throne for so long, there needs to be one to take the throne who can merge both lines – the line of Hestia, who actually has birthright claim and the line of Zeus, who has claim by act. They wonder who this can be as Hestia has no children to succeed her.

No one can take the throne of the gods without fully accepting themselves. They must become their truest form of themselves before they can make claim to the throne. Otherwise, the throne will essentially be empty.

They realize that Athena will represent the line of Zeus in the Sixth Age that Eros was coming to usher in, but they still can't figure out who will represent the line of Hestia.

Too late, they realize that Eros is already marching on Fort Olympus. With him, he brought the armies of all four wind gods and the remaining monsters that had not been banished back to Tartarus after the battle against Gaea in Marathon. The wind gods create a huge storm to keep things in confusion.

The Fort prepares for battle.

As they battle, the Council have taken on the worst of those opposing them – the four wind gods and Eros himself. No one understands why the gods are unable to come down to help them, but they keep fighting.

Eros is fighting Nico, Reyna, Percy, Annabeth, Thalia, and Jason simultaneously. Eros laughs and challenges Nico: "What are you going to do to me, little prince? You're so cowardly that you cannot even accept yourself."

At this point, Reyna realizes what he means. She remembers what she came up with while in captivity of the only way to defeat Eros. "The only way to defeat Love is to accept Love."

Eros smirks as she says this and keeps fighting the others.

Reyna slips away and goes into meditation. As she gets away, Eros throws a spear at her, instantly killing her. The Council immediately goes into full rage at seeing one of their closest friends die. None more so than Nico.

He calls up armies of undead with Diocletian's spear, and he throws everything he can at Eros. Eros merely laughs at what's going on. He refuses to be bowed down. He tells Nico: "You can't defeat me, for you have refused to accept yourself."

Eros attacks mercilessly. Nico finally realizes what Eros means. He calls out to Athena: "Lady Athena, Bearer of the Aegis, I wish to use my last wish now. List your enchantment form me. I need to accept myself fully and not reject anything I am to defeat the God of Love. Please, this is the gift I wish for."

A bright white light shines above Nico for a moment, and he closes his eyes briefly, absorbing the energy. He meditates on everything he is and could be for a moment. When he reopens his eyes, he is pulsing with dark energy and exudes an aura of raw power. Eros smirks again and focuses all of his attacks on him.

Nico charges Eros. Eros laughs: "Good, my little prince. You have finally accepted everything. You have understood the sacrifice that your friend Reyna made for you out of love. You are realizing that you no longer care for the past."

Nico ignores his words and attacks with a vicious fury. They duel for a little bit, and eventually, with a roar, Nico thrusts his sword into Eros' heart. Eros stumbles and falls. The storm immediately recedes, and all of Eros armies disappear. It is now just an injured Eros looking at Nico.

Eros gives Nico a small smile: "Good, little one. You have finally made the right choice. I knew I picked the right people to lead the new Age. The Fifteen Olympians appear behind Eros, and he addresses them.

"You all know what to do. Hestia, you have chosen well. He will carry your line on well."

Hestia merely glares at him, "You are to be banished to Tartarus until your sentence is withdrawn, Eros," she says.

Eros nods. "Do your duty," he warns. "Styx will be here shortly."

Eros disappears, and the Council and the Gods go back to Olympus in a flash.

In the throne room, Hestia says, "I give up my birthright to the Throne of Olympus to my Heir, my Successor, and my Champion, Nico di Angelo. Rise, Nikolaos."

Zeus accepts the truth. "I withdraw my claim to the Throne of Olympus to my firstborn daughter: Athena."

Athena and Nico are shocked, but they realize their duty.

"You two already have a child, I see," Hestia says. They both nod in acknowledgement. "Well we now know what to do. You are to be wed and then only can you take the Throne of Olympus. You both have fully accepted yourselves and are now ready to lead the Sixth Age. Remember to free us from corruption and lead us down the path of honesty, truth, justice, and belief."

Just then, Styx comes. "I am here to collect my due. Zeus, Poseidon, I have agreeably delayed your sentences of punishment up until now as the Moirai and Eros told me that you were needed. But it is now time."

"Wait," Percy asked, "What was their crime."

"Fathering children they were not supposed to," Styx says smoothly. "For each crime, the ancient punishment of breaking an oath taken on me is to drink my waters and serve thirty years in Tartarus. Zeus, you will do twice that sentence for each of your children, and Poseidon, you will do one."

Hermes objects. "We can't have the Sea and the Sky without their rulers for that amount of time!"

Styx is indifferent. "The offenders should have thought of that before committing their crimes."

Zeus shrugs. "I am no longer King of the Sky. I have given that title up to my daughter, Athena, anyway. She will take over my duties. I will not return to the Council of Olympus. I will serve my time and fade into the recesses of time."

Poseidon gives his son and his new love, Athena, a sad look. "I abdicate in favor of my only living son – Perseus. I ask that he and his wife take over mine and my former wife's duties as King and Queen of the Sea as well as our roles on the Council of Olympus. Perseus and Annabeth, do you accept my request?"

Percy and Annabeth are shocked completely by the request.

"Unfortunately, you don't have much of a choice," Athena tells them sadly. "The Sea is too large a domain to be left alone for thirty years. If my Uncle Poseidon gives his realm to you two, you must take it."

Percy and Annabeth remain uncomfortable and discuss in whispers for a bit.

Eventually, Annabeth turns back to the Council of Gods. "We accept," she says slowly.

Athena nods. "Apollo, please do the honors of feeding Nico di Angelo, Annabeth Chase, and Perseus Jackson 100% ambrosia, so that they can become immortals."

Apollo pulls out three sticks of ambrosia that looked like nothing any of the demigods had ever seen before. These ambrosia sticks were the deepest of gold and were smoking.

"A mortal who eats this would have their soul destroyed," says Apollo. "However, to become an immortal, this is exactly what must happen. Your mortal soul must be destroyed, and you must unleash your truest self and let go of all attachments to this visual realm. You must transcend. Eating this will cause you inexplicable pain, but I will minimize it as much as possible."

Nico, Percy, and Annabeth each take a stick and eat it. It feels like nothing short of having their entire body destroyed from inside and outside. After a few minutes of pain, though, they have become immortal and take their form as gods.

Athena nodded. "Perseus and Annabeth, do you take your roles on the Council of Olympus as the King and Queen of the Seas?"

"We do," both said in unison, with stronger and richer voices than had ever been heard from their mouths before.

"You both are now officially married," Hera said. "Rise, Queen Annabeth, Queen of the Seas, Goddess of Battle Strategy, Patron of Soldiers, and Guardian of Olympus. Rise, King Perseus, King of the Seas, God of Swordsmanship, Co-Patron of Heroes, Co-Patron of Fort Olympus, and God of Demigods. May your strength and wisdom be a guiding light to all of us."

Hera then turned to Athena. "Are you ready?"

Slowly, Athena nodded. "With his will, I would like to take Nico di Angelo as my husband, so that we can unite the line of Hestia, the Firstborn and Rightful Holder of the Throne of Olympus, and the line of Zeus, the Longest King of Olympus, in order to bring peace and stability to this universe. My equal, Nikolaos, do you accept my hand in marriage so that we may take our rightful roles?"

Nico stares back at his former Patron Goddess for a minute, unsure. He then looks at Hestia who gives him an encouraging nod and smile. He turns back to Athena. "I accept," he says slowly.

"Then rise, Nikolaos," Hera thundered, "King of the Heavens, Lieutenant of Hades, God of Demigods, Co-Patron of Heroes, and Co-Patron of Fort Olympus."

Athena takes Nico's hand, and they both turn to Hera, bowing to the Goddess of Marriage. "Oh Mother Hera," Athena said, "Please give us your blessing, so that we might bring balance to the world again."

Hera placed her hands on both Athena and Nico, "Be married, my children. May your strength, power, wisdom, and kindness lead us into a prosperous Sixth Age."

Hestia looked at the four newest monarchs among the gods. "Take your thrones," she ordered.

Percy and Annabeth go to what had formerly been Poseidon's and Amphitrite's thrones and take their seats.

Athena turns to Nico. "Shall we?" She asked quietly.

Nico looked at her softly. "Yes, we shall, my Queen," he said softly.

They go up to the thrones of the King and Queen of Olympus. Athena takes Zeus' former throne, and Nikolaos took the former throne of Hera.

The new King and Queen of Olympus gazed over their realm as all the other gods bowed to them, even the former King and Queen of Olympus and the former King of the Seas. Balance had finally been achieved, and there was no longer the conflict between the line of birthright and the line of action. The world as about to enter an era of unprecedented peace wherein the demigods were only going to battle the most inane and instinctual of monsters. Humanity had just become one step closer to perfection.

Finally, Styx spoke, "Give that the issues of kingdom have been settled, I now demand that Poseidon and Zeus accompany me."

Styx turned on her feet, her black robes billowing behind her, and Zeus and Poseidon followed her.

"Wait, my Lord Poseidon," The Queen of Olympus called.

Styx, Zeus, and Poseidon stopped and turned around to see Athena descending her throne and coming their way. Her face was blank, but there was a softer look in her eyes than normal.

She reached Poseidon. Quietly, she fixed his tie and looked at him. A million things went unsaid between them, but no one moved.

"Come back with your shield. Thank you for protecting my favored city."

Athena gave Poseidon a quick kiss on the cheek before stepping back.

Poseidon closed his eyes and exhaled before giving a curt nod. He turned and accompanied Styx and Zeus to the Underworld.

Athena took her throne again.

"And the dawn of the Sixth Age has now risen! May the Reign of Athena bring a million blessings on all!" Hermes bellowed.
