IX: Okay, my very first Naruto fan fiction - despite the fact that I've read hundreds. Just a short drabble on my favorite Naruto character, the great almighty, Uchiha Itachi. :)
Uchiha Itachi was always like a monochrome. Black and white. Clearly defined.
Midnight black hair, deathly pale skin, deep onyx eyes - that was, when the Sharingan was not activated; bleeding red.
At a young age, Itachi always set up a border in between black and white, never allowing one to flow into the other's territory.
When in ANBU, Itachi would allow only the black to surface. He would complete his missions - assasinating, murdering, massacring ruthlessly; kidnapping, abducting uncaringly; robbing, stealing heartlessly. Itachi would never allow white to flow into black, never allow his emotions to bother him, never allowing them to stop him from completing his missions.
Even if it meant him suffering after the mission.
Even if it meant his dreams - no, nightmares - plaguing him at night; filled with screams of the agonized, cries of the suffering, accusation of the tormented, blood of the innocent.
Even if it meant his childhood, loss at a young age when one his age was supposed to be filled with innocence and happiness and joy, oblivous to the suffering of the world.
Though, the only time he allowed the white to surface fully, untainted by the black, is when he spent time with his beloved otouto.
Correction, was when he spent time with his beloved otouto.
It was the only time he felt truly happy, truly alive.
Although Itachi had loss his childhood innocence at a young age, he felt satisfied watching his younger brother living his childhood innocence.
Then the order to massacre his clan came. And so Itachi completely threw away white, letting himself be engulfed in black.
(The countless moments of times where he spared his victims from additional suffering, when he showed them mercy no withstanding)
…..
Uchiha Itachi was always like a monochrome. Black and white. Clearly defined.
That was, until his very last moment. When he let the white surface when he was supposed to be the black. When he let the 'aniki' surface when he was supposed to be the 'cold blooded killer'.
Also, on that day, on that moment - his very last one -, he was tainted an eerie red.
Black was his facade, his mask. White was himself. Red was his suffering - the blood he shed, the blood he bled, and most of all, the Sharingan. And red was never meant to have existed.
After all, Uchiha Itachi was always like a monochrome - no space for red.
