Chapter 21-Blackmail
Location Unknown-Morning
News about Korra teaming up with the assassins spread like wildfire within the next day, it reached the ears of Altaïr and others of the Creed. Connor exposed himself as an assassin was troubling though not without merit. The public reviewed Connor assessment in what he has done for them in the past year for both benders and non-bender; so far he has been keeping the streets clean than anyone could imagine, not since the time of Avatar Aang had the public seen a man dedicated to protect civilians on both sides despite his lethal use of force. The public demanded that he'd be pardon from punishment, while others demanded his final imprisonment along with his Brotherhood. In the end the public voice had been heard; Connor was free and pardon for his deeds however he would have to meet with the councilmen and women to discuss further detail on how to be careful with his weapons.
Altaïr read the paper, it said Connor explained that Amon was nothing more than a power hungry man seeking to control the world and if he wasn't stopped, he would not only go after benders but non benders as well. He reasoned that it didn't matter which side was oppressed or not, it was a matter of time before he would strike fear in the heart of the people causing division. He also mentioned that the time to come together as one was urgent to strike back at the mad man.
"Well, at least we are now known publicly." Edward said, "I'd tell ya I didn't know that my grandson would be able to pull a stunt like that. Jeez he has balls of steel if he went to expose himself like that."
"Which is why this is most troubling." The Arabic man said folding the paper down on the table
"How so?"
"Say he was captured by the enemy and they find out about the apple; they could easily overpower or better yet make us slaves Edward. This is why it's a risk for that novice to expose himself like that." The Arabic Assassin leaned back in his chair, "Amon will stop at nothing until he has this world underneath his thumb."
"I agree, it's a risk however he didn't truly compromise the Brotherhood directly but I see where you are going with this. However, let's take a look at the positives here with this exposure we can still work behind the scenes…"
"Unlikely, the public will demand to know what we do behind the scenes and since we are a rouge organization in the eyes of the council, we'll be forced to take an oath for their political gain."
"Says who? Besides how are they going to find us?"
Altaïr gave him a deadpanned looked, "Need I remind you that the police have seismic abilities to sense anything that moves. More likely Lin Beifong could find us anywhere she wants to look we cannot keep moving around!"
"Then we hit them politically…" A new voice said. Both men saw Achilles at the door with a stern face, "Forgive me Altaïr I couldn't help but overhear the conversation. While its true Connor acts before he thinks, I agree with Edward this might work in our favor. The lad already has popularity with the public so if we can get this momentum going I'm sure that we can have more than enough recruits to match Amon's forces. Ezio been spreading rumors of Auditore defense at the Gayla…"
"So that's where he went last night…" The man grumbled
"Indeed. However, Ezio might be the best candidate to enter the political arena along with few of our brethren." Achilles went up the man desk, "The time for secrets grandmaster is over in this world. During Ezio's time and I hope yours as well the Assassins were feared. Just the mention of the name Assassins had everyone panicking just think of it! We can mark this world leaving behind a legacy."
The Grandmaster leaned his chair back debating whether or not this was a good idea to begin with. Finally, he sighed deeply weighing the pros and cons even if they could keep the organization a secret it would be a matter of time before Beifong catches up to them. So he'll take that leap of faith hoping for the best; "Very well however should this backfire...Connor will be expelled from the Creed forever. This is my condition, is this clear?"
"Crystal…"
"Aye."
"Send word to the Italian we have much to discuss."
Tarrlok Office Afternoon
Tarrlok was furious! That Connor Kenway character had destroyed the chance he had to recruit the Avatar to his taskforce not to mention last night. With Avatar Korra announcing that she'd given her support to him and his assassin group in helping to track down Amon, the majority of the public had high opinions of the Native for defending them along with their businesses from the gangs. Even some of the benders were grateful of being helped out as well despite his extreme way of doing things. Within a span of the year he had been there defending the little people so to speak so to put him in prison would spell out cry from the public.
He slammed hands on the desk his eyes full of fury. That boy was going to pay dearly for this humiliation! He didn't send his messenger over to the island for nothing, he knows that Brotherhood is hiding on that island and if needed he will send a Taskforce to restrain them. There had to be a way for him to turn this situation around! But what? That was the million yen question; what was the perfect way to get Avatar Korra on his side?
A knock was at his door, "Come in…" The door opened to reveal his secretary come in.
"Councilman Tarrlok the council is waiting for you."
"Yes, thank you. I'll be there in a moment." The staff nodded his head leaving the water bender to his thoughts as he collected his papers. His eyes narrowed there must be a way he thought. As he walked to the council room he heard the arguments going back and forth not that he cared in the least his mind was preoccupied with a plan. He sat down greeted the other council members more while listened to the conversation with a bored expression on his face. He tuned them out his mind going back to ways he can turn this situation around then someone mentioned the Assassin his ears perked up as he listened.
"This is an outrage a criminal that was supposed to be in prison is now honored as a hero! What's worse is that Avatar Korra has given her support to these terrorist!"
"Let's hold on calling them terrorist Councilman Cheng. So far I've not yet seen an Assassin kill one of our own nor have I seen them blowing up people's property."
"Of course you would have some sympathy for them Tenzin! Since you were the one that housed them for some time now, are they still there on air temple island?" The earthbending man said, "How could you allow the Avatar to make a brash decision to support these heathens!"
"They are no longer on the island." The air nomad said. Tarrlok jaw tightened a bit there goes his plan on taking in with the taskforce, "They moved off the island to who knows where. The only one there is Connor with two of his friends which the name escapes me but Korra's decisions are her own. I cannot force her to give support to other people; as an Air Nomad it's my duty to guide her, not pressure her!"
"Yes, yes, while this is all nice and dandy of you air nomads who claim are free from attachments from this world..." The sarcasm was inanimate with Cheng, "The question still begs; why did you let those men stay on you island?"
"I didn't know that these men and women would be popping out of nowhere, Connor was the only one that I held as a guest for nearly a year nothing more nothing less! And don't assume I agree with the lifestyle that he has chosen either! I only entertained them per request by Connor knowing that his Brotherhood would an useful allies in the future."
The Councilman grumbled under his breath. Tarrlok mind was racing, this might be an opportunity to get somewhere so when everything was silent he spoke, "Tenzin while I agree with Councilman Cheng that these assassins are a nuisance what you've done could be illegal?"
All eyes were on Tarrlok, he a had a small smile that if one didn't catch quick enough they'd miss it, Tenzin eyebrow rose, "Pray tell me Tarrlok...what exactly have I done that is illegal?"
"You were harbingering a wanted criminal before he was pardon." He let that sink were among the three representative, "Of course, I'm sure the public would love to know that one of our respected members would do such a thing. After all nomads are supposed to keep the peace, no?"
Tenzin eyes narrowed Tarrlok wasn't bringing this up for no reason, he was considering of using Connor appearance on the island as blackmail material so the question begged on what he wants. "Tarrlok you can stop dancing around the question what is exactly do you mean?"
Tarrlok smirked, he hated using blackmail to get what he wants but he will not let the Avatar go that easily, "What I mean my dear nomad friend, is that you can be found guilty of treason…"
There were gasp, Tenzin knocked over his chair "That's absurd!"
"Is it now? Come to think of it, I think you favor more the assassin's than your duty of protecting Republic City. However, we can overlook this if you can agree with terms that I'm about to purpose."
Tenzin wasn't liking this at all, he couldn't help but get a sense of dread to overcome him, "What exactly do you want?"
Tarrlok smiled now this was his chance.
Air Temple Island
Connor checked and packed his bag quickly for the journey to the north for the final time. There has been a lot of delays but he couldn't delay any further, if he was to gain his animal powers he would have to do it now, despite the fans that he was getting or the strange request of marking someone body with his blade. If Altaïr knew about this strange request he will have a fit, despite that fact the Brotherhood probably know something like this was going on.
He stuffed his basic needs to survive the cold in the North, he would go to where his horse stable was in a bit. It has been a while since he rode Acer and he could use a change in environment instead being locked up in that stable nearly all the time hopefully, they've been feeding him while he was away on missions. After finishing his last clothes he stuffed it in a backpack something that is coming in handy, they had no such thing back in the colonies so for this he was grateful for.
He made his way out of his room, crossing the field to reach the stables which was in a grassy part of the island. He saw the Air Acolytes coming out of the stable with buckets and brushes, Connor noted that that they were giving his horse a bath.
One of the female Acolytes noticed the young boy, "Greeting Connors, I take it you are here to take Acer out for a run?"
"Yes, I have a long journey ahead of me so it would be wise to let him out once in a while." He smiled at the young girl, her name was Rinna she was in charge of showing Connor around the city when he first arrived for couple of days. One day he asked her to paint him a map of the city and he went on from there, "How are you Rinna?"
"I am well thank you for asking but I always wondered, where you have been my friend."
"I've been away for some time..."
"I could tell. It gets very dull around here at least you bring some excitement to this island." Rinna gave a small smile, "Well pleasant talking with you Connor and safe journey."
Location unknown
The Italian and the Arabic assassin were discussing on how they could enter the political arena without the proper papers to be on the council. It proved to be more of a task than they originally thought; turns out according to their spies within the council headquarters, a thorough background check was required for all parties and one must be nominated by a member of the already established council of the respected nation.
"This is going to be difficult, without the proper preparation Amon will easily crush us." One of the Assassin heads said, even though Ezio tried to remain positive he knew he had to real; the main assassins could only do so much in a fight without being killed themselves.
"Sì difficili, non impossibili." Ezio said leaning back on the chair, "Recruits have been slow. We've been searching for days ever since we left the island for people, we see the potential but very few have the mindset that the Creed wants."
"Exactly, we don't want people here for personal gain right now our numbers are slow but they are rising." Altaïr sighed rubbing his hand over his temples, why didn't that novice just recruit people while he was here? "Sometimes I wish that Connor wouldn't be so impulsive."
"Senti chi parla Altaïr!"(Look who's talking!) Ezio snapped, "If I remember correctly who was it who was impulsive in the first place to try to kill a Templar in the remains of Solomon's temple?"
He looked up at the ceiling he wasn't going to argue with that claim. Then suddenly as a bolt of lightning a thought struck him, if the apple could bring them here to this world what were the possibilities of going back into the past of this world with the power of the apple? He didn't understand the whole jumping from one time to the other however this might work. Given that the apple has an unlimited source of power however they weren't going to strain Juno who was recovering nicely.
"I have an idea."
"Okay lets hear it!"
Before Altaïr could respond a messenger came running through the door; "Master Altaïr, we have trouble! The air nomad known as Tenzin is in trouble!"
"What does this have to do with us?" Ezio asked
The messenger breathed looked at the second in command, "Our sources indicate that if Tenzin doesn't convince the Avatar and the assassins to join the Taskforce, the council will have no choice but revoke the nomads status of political power. Further more, they will allow the public to know that one of its most respected leaders let a once criminal stay on Air Temple island thus resulting in house arrest of the entire island."
"Sattar, Aveline and Connor are over there!"
"In other words…they want us to join the taskforce or protesters will demand our heads." Altaïr scoffed, "I knew I didn't like this Tarrlok person from what we gather he always has a way of trying to turn things for his favor for political reasons! They are all the same no matter where you go."
"Should I be the one to relay the message?"
"No…" Altair leaned into his hands, his eye turned hard, his face stone, "I will see to this matter personally. I'm going to have a word with Tarrlok; if it's a blackmail war he wants it's a blackmail war he's going to get…"
Another messenger appeared, "Sirs, we've found the location of the Chi blockers."
"I will go with them." Ezio said
"No send Achilles and make he sure he takes the apple with him, we need recruits and Amon forces will provide just that." Ezio nodded, "Now excuse me I must be prepared for tonight."
Later that night
Korra and Connor couldn't fathom for the life of them why they here with Tarrlok and his task force. Tenzin had asked (forced) them to go to a conference held in City Hall where the press was there to ask if the Avatar and the Assassin were joining the Taskforce. Connor answered saying he was unsure about the creed but he was willing to partner up for tonight to see how thing would turn out.
To Connor Tenzin seemed a little off, he asked them to join the taskforce which they responded why to which he gave no reply, he told them do as they were told. When Connor asked again he was forceful the second time to not investigate further which caused red flags to spring. He asked Aveline and Sattar but Sattar had a date with Asami tonight so it was up to Aveline.
He asked of her to find out why Tenzin was being strange, he asked her to sneak around to find clues to why he was being forceful about Tarrlok Taskforce. She complied after the dual left to meet Tarrlok at City Hall. Now they were in a moving to a library where reports of a chi blockers were training, Connor stood out like a sore thumb, compared to the others he was in white amongst black uniform, the vehicle stopped once it reach destination, they got off into position of the cellar.
Korra peaked she could see movement within the basement, a flash of Amon crossed her mind when she saw the poster and she let out a gasp. Connor placed a hand on her shoulder, when she looked at him in the eyes she could his neutral expression face but his eyes said different. She gestured to him that she was fine. She then looked at Tarrlok, he nodded his head then signaled to his men on top of the tank, the water moved fluidity in position, there was pause for a moment.
Within the basement Achilles was happy, more people now know the truth about Amon and they now had more people to train in the ways of the Creed. Though what disturbed him was Tarrlok; that man had his own agenda and he wasn't going to rest until everyone of the Assassin were underneath his thumb.
He sniffed the air, he got a wisp of something, like rain? He quickly turned around seeing a speck of water leaking into the cracks he shouted his command, "GET AWAY FROM THERE!"
Quickly the Assassins managed to dodge the tidal wave of water however some of their captive have been frozen in a block of ice. The Assassin readied themselves for a battle that is until they saw a familiar white cloaked figure wearing colony suit rushed in.
"Connor?"
"Old man?"
The whole taskforce jumped in to see a sea of white. They were confused for the moment had they gotten the information wrong? Tarrlok was surprised as well as angry, "What is the meaning of this? Where are the Equalist!"
"As you can see Tarrlok you are a bit late for festival of kicking butt, we've known about this location tonight and responded accordingly. Your services are no longer required."
"What! You dare Assassin!"
"Don't play with me boy it will only leave marked." He turned to the remaining Brotherhood, "Men prepare to move." He turned to Connor, "I want to speak to you when you get back there."
Connor nodded his head.
Sometime later
"As you can see it was thanks to Connor and his Assassins that we have been able to capture Equalist forces. So Republic City can once again breathe a sigh of relief." Tarrlok wasn't happy but he had to keep up his appearance so he smiled
"A question for the Avatar: Amon still remains at large why haven't you located him yet."
"You want to know why!" Korra stepped up to the mic. Connor prayed that she wouldn't say something stupid, "Amon is hiding in the shadows like a coward he is as the Assassin did once! Now my friend Connor had the…excuse my French…had the balls to come out and reveal himself…"
Connor eyebrow was raised, so she was calling him a coward? That was rich, Korra took the mic in her hand sending feedback causing Connor grit his teeth a little, "Amon I challenge you to a duel!"
Tarrlok face turned to surprised, Connor faced palmed. Korra said something stupid but it didn't stop there, "No Taskforce or Assassins, no chi blockers either, just the two of us at the stroke of Midnight on Avatar Aang memorial island! Let's cut to the chase and settle this thing once and for all!"
Connor heard enough. He went to the podium unleashed his hidden blade cutting the wire to the microphone, grabbed the Avatar by the scruff of her neck tightly and walked off with Korra complaining that he was hurting her as the press had questions or were excited by the news what Korra said. Connor paid no heed to them, they were going to talk without the interruption.
The Park
Sattar was enjoying this stroll with Asami in the carriage. He'll have to thank Connor for the date he purposely set up with the girl even though it was supposed to be payback but he still enjoyed himself, so the jokes on you Connor. Asami snuggled closer to him causing him to blush, he stroked her hair sighing in relief.
"Sattar…"
"Hmm…"
"I know this is going to sound weird but I'm glad I hit you on that day with my bike or for what it matters I'm glad I ran into you and Connor."
"Yeah me too…" He welcomed this time of peace he had with Asami, the girl was gentle but he could tell just underneath the demeanor of gentleness he was fierce tigress.
"You know what else?"
"No what…"
"I'm also glad you told me the truth that you were an Assassin."
"This doesn't bother you?"
"Not really, you don't look like a killer especially with that funny looking head piece." Asami said with a smile while rubbing the head gear down to cover the mans eyes
"Ahh I see, this funny head piece…" He said removing it, "Doesn't make me look fierce I'm shocked and offended Asami."
"Oh don't be such a baby." She giggled lightly
"Looks can be deceptive especially for an Assassin." Sattar looked at the head piece his face dropped
Asami looked at him worriedly, "What wrong?"
"Nothing, it's just when I look at this taqiyahs it just reminds of my brother Abdul-Bari and my sister Shamoon." He said with a small smile, "They scraped up enough money to buy this me on my 9th birthday."
"What happened to your family?"
"Killed by Templars my father and my brother were the first to die." Sattar clenched his fist, "My mother and sister helped me to escape as they were taken prisoner…they were raped and then killed…"
"I'm so sorry…I lost my mother when I was very young…" Asami said her eyes moistening a bit then a single tear slid down her face. Sattar used his thumb wiping it away. He then took Asami hand clasping hers within his
"I will protect you from any harm Asami…"
Asami only smiled as she hugged his arm sighing contently, "I know you will."
Sattar enjoyed her warmth as he brought her closer to him. He vowed that he would protect her as long as he could before he had to leave this place. He couldn't tell her right away and that was downfall of mingling with civilians you couldn't tell them everything in the Brotherhood without comprising them, which begs the question will Asami have the strength to join the Creed?
City Hall
Connor roughly pushed Korra into a room sealed the door shut then glared at her with fury, "Are you out of your mind!" Korra fixed her shirt since her belly button was showing a bit as Connor continued, "You dare challenge Amon to a one on one duel? Are you trying to get yourself killed!"
"Connor stay out of this okay? I have this under control!"
"You call that under control!? Korra you just want to fight an Equalist to prove a point! What is it that you are looking for? This is madness especially without the proper backup! You couldn't even handle a chi blocker!"
"Neither could you Connor! I don't see your point in this!"
"Oh? I can't face a chi blocker Korra? I beat several of them before even before the Assassin came once upon time!" He growled, "My point is…you don't know if Amon is going to meet your demands! He's a snake Korra, patiently waiting for the right moment to strike and you are walking into the fangs of the beast."
Korra huffed turning around, "Don't butt in Connor, this is my fight now!"
Then Connor realized something after watching her for several days, her shudders, the shaking and the involuntary twitch at the name of Amon, "You're afraid!"
"What I am n-"
"It makes sense now! Ever since we rescued Bolin from the revelation that night!" Korra turned her demeanor to be strong but was slowly cracking, "I watched you closely, you are afraid, everything time when Amon voice was heard you would twitch involuntary or your breathing would become jagged like it is now."
Connor was stepping closer as Korra was stepping back, "You are delusion Connor I am not afraid!"
"You are!" Connor cornered her though there was some distance between them, taking his hand he wipe gently her brow, "If you weren't, you wouldn't be sweating exceedingly like so."
To prove his point he let her sweat drip off his fingers. Korra breathing was becoming ragged, she watched as her sweat fell, Connor was too close to the truth! She had to end this conversation, he mustn't know the truth, but what he did pushed her over the edge.
He leaned in close to get a good look at her, "Admit it…you…are….sacred…"
Korra response was throwing a punch to his face. He recoiled in pain as she threw him off balance racing towards the door. Connor reacted quickly by taking out his newly required weapon; the gauchos. Skillfully twirling them in his hands, he threw them allowing the weapons to wrap around her torso pinning her arms to her side while the other twisted itself in a knot for her feet.
Korra went down with a heavy thud, she struggled against her restraints, "Let me go!"
Connor rubbed his cheek straddled her reducing more of her movements, "Admit it!"
Furiously she opened her mouth to fire bend him off, Connor quickly dodged the stream of fire. After that died down he sent a glare towards the girl.
"Get off me!"
He covered her mouth with his hand that way she wouldn't burn his face, she grunted behind her hand gagged. He looked at her, "Tell me what frightens you more Amon or his ability to take away bending abilities?"
She looked at him defiantly, they stared each other down for several moments. Connor shook his head Korra was stubborn nonetheless he concede she wasn't going to talk to him so he'll let her go but that doesn't mean that he wasn't going to watch her from afar.
"Very Korra you want to fight Amon go right ahead."
He remove his hand from her mouth as well as the rope from her torso and her feet after he got off, he didn't say a word to her no more than walked away ignoring the glare he was receiving from her.
Moments later
Tenzin flew over to the dock with his glider, "Korra! You have to stop this it madness!"
"Don't try to stop me! I'm going to face Amon alone, so don't interfere!" Korra finished untying the boat from the dock.
Tenzin angrily turned to Tarrlok, "This is all your doing!"
He held up his hands in defense, "I tried to talk her out of it and so did the Assassin but she's made up her mind."
Korra water bent the boat to the island.
"Besides I have group of airships waiting on my signal in case things go sour." Tarrlok said
It was close to midnight and Korra was watching the horizon for any sign of movement. Her heart was beating fast, anticipation was killing her. Then it struck midnight surprising her, she placed her hand over her chest, "Calm down Korra, calm down."
The bell chimed three times before she regained posture, unknown to her a familiar assassin was watching her.
An hour went by and she stretched her limbs, "Guess you are no show Amon. Whose sacred now?"
'I knew it…'
The figure watched as she got up and left, soon the figure came out of the shadows to reveal Connor Kenway, "Alright Korra this is where the girls are separated from the women which are you?"
Korra passed the entrance of the island when suddenly out of nowhere she was ensnared once again and pulled into the hallway of the memorial. She let a yelp as she is dragged across the floor, soon enough she spun her way out by fire bending her restraints and thanks to the illumination she saw a dozen of Amon forces, she could already hear Connor voice saying, 'I told you so.'
Speaking of Connor, he walked inside he wasn't going to interfere with this fight but he was there in case the situation got out of hand. Korra had to learn the hard way that you don't dive in head first and even though it looked cruel, this would be a learning experience for the young Avatar. He heard the grunts and yells of Korra and the whooshing of her restraints, and then the pounding of the chi blockers blocking her bending.
Then he heard the footsteps and then nothing but it really wasn't nothing but a pause then he heard Amon's voice, "I received your invitation young Avatar…"
Another pause
"Our showdown while inevitable…is premature." Amon half illuminated masks shown from where Connor was standing, "Although it would be the simplest thing to take away your bending right now like the Assassin are taking away my forces…"
Connor slipped behind one of the followers readying his blade should the need arise.
"I won't…" Korra was stricken with fear as she looked into the eyes of a cold merciless man, "You'll only become a martyr...Benders of every nation will rally behind your untimely demise but I assure you, I have a plan and you will be the last to fall along with your Creed allies. In due time you'll get your duel and I will destroy you…"
Amon knocked her out by karate chop to the neck, so the last thing Korra saw was Amon looking down while her world went black.
The followers begin to file out only to find Connor standing there behind them. The Equalist ready themselves for a fight however Amon had other plans, "Halt!" His followers looked at him confused, "So you come to kill me Assassin or should I call you Connor?"
Connor said nothing but held his guard up.
"As I told the Avatar, you'll get what's coming to you and your Brotherhood."
"How did you know about the Brotherhood when they never existed before now?" He asked
Amon chuckled, "It wasn't too hard to find other white cloaked men running around the city. When I first heard of you, I thought we could be allies, to bring out a new age but I was wrong you showed your true colors and fight for those who couldn't care less for you."
"I fight for those who don't have voice for both civilians and benders alike even to the lowest of the low. They are all human you don't get to decide Amon who becomes what." Connor stated
"We shall, when the Equalist arises and the first to go will be your precious Creed. I don't know what you are doing to my followers but I will make sure you are the first to go."
"Go for it." Connor replied
The man let a dark chuckle follow, "I like that attitude of yours Assassin; fearless in the sense of danger but stupid. Now, are you going to let us go or do we have to fight our out?"
"You may leave in peace our battle will be determined on the battlefield."
Amon signaled with his hands for his followers to move out as he was departing Connor had this to say to him, "The Brotherhood knows who you are behind the mask Amon."
Amon froze
"As for me I'll enjoying taking that mask off to see who you truly are underneath it."
With this said he left.
Connor went to Korra picked her up bridal style before leaving the memorial island on a boat.
It would be ten minutes later that Korra would finally awaken. She saw a blurry cloaked figure moving, as she was unconscious she had a vision of the past concerning Avatar Aang but it was moving very fast for her to understand what that was.
"Hmm…Aang…"
"No."
"Connor…"
"How are you feeling?"
"Like I was hit by a mobile train…" She whispered
"I saw that you were ambushed by Amon and heard the threat that he made the only thing that I don't know, if he took your bending away."
Korra produce a small flame, "No I still have it."
"Korra…" He said softly "How are you really feeling?"
Her lips quivered, tears started to form and soon she started to sob while throwing herself at the Assassin. Connor had to let go of the oars trying to console the girl and support her weight or else the could fall over into the cold river, "I was so terrified Connor…I was so helpless…you were right …I was scared this whole time…I was scared..."
Connor rubbed her back, he wasn't the one for emotions or consoling but he did sympathize with Korra in what it was to be in a helpless situation, "I cannot say anything to console you Korra I've…never been a man of words…"
"Y-you're not going to…scold me or tell me 'I told you so'?"
"No…" He said pulling her away to see her face with his thumb he gently wiped her tears away, "You've learned your lesson Korra, I need not to add salt to injury. You must be wise as you are brave, you have a lot of courage Korra but your pride will be your downfall if you let it blind you just as feared did.
Korra buried herself in his chest allowing a fresh wave of tears to come, "I've never felt like this before Connor…I…I don't know what t-to do…"
Connor once again embraced her allowing her to let it all out as she sobbed, "I may not have words Korra but I promise you we'll get through this. Though if Tenzin was here instead of me I think he would say something about admitting your fears."
Korra let out a half laugh, she pulled away from Connor and looked at him as Connor did her. The moonlight reflected of his face and she could that he was worried about her, heck ever since he arrived he has been looking out for her keeping his promise to her father. She couldn't deny that she was attracted to the Native American even if he was from another world but one thing that she did admire from him was his loyalty. She looked into his dark eyes, they were full of sympathy and relief but underneath she saw a sense of determination to do justice despite the neutral face.
Connor looked into her eyes despite being full of tears she still had a warm sense to them, he tucked back a rouge strand of hair, even under the moonlight she was beautiful so yes he was attracted and it didn't go away as he thought. Korra was one of kind, so what if the guys teased him about Korra being his girlfriend, but it was his grandfather words that came to mind, to leave a mark behind in this world.
Connor felt his heartbeat speed up a bit as he grabbed Korra by the waist pulling her towards him, Korra could feel her cheeks flamed but was it from the crying or was it something else. With his eyes locked on Korra's, he took it a step further by pulling her on top of his lap. She wasn't sure her heart had ever pounded so fast in her life.
Korra leaned in she noticed a small scar on the corner of Connor's lips. For a fleeting moment she wondered how he got it. She wanted to know everything about the man in front of her, and more than anything, she wanted to feel his lips on hers.
Just as the longing became unbearable, Connor's lips met Korra's. It was salty due to the tears however the warmth of his mouth sent a current running through her body like never before. Korra slowly wrapped her arms around his neck as she lost herself in his soft lips. Connor grabbed her by the back of her head deepening the kiss further, he wasn't rough but gentle for a first timer and just like that the kiss was over. Both suddenly became aware of their surroundings Korra let him go and allowed herself to be held.
"Does this mean we're official?"
"I don't know...only if you want it to be…"
"I…I would like to see where this goes Connor."
"Very well as long as this doesn't interfere with our mission."
She let a small hmm letting Connor strong arms wrap around her, "Can…can we stay here a bit longer under stars I don't feel like talking to Tenzin right now of what I experience."
"Sure…we'll stay as long as you want."
Tarrlok office
Tarrlok had no idea what happened on memorial island but soon enough, he will at least in the morning. He was finishing up paperwork when suddenly the doors opened, his ears perked up when he saw it open, he sighed thinking it was his servant bringing in tea however when no one came in a moment later he grew suspicious.
Getting up from his desk he peeked outside it was quiet a little too quiet then he saw a blur, he got outside into a fighting stance. Nothing happened he was perplexed who opened the door? He saw something run into a hall way and pursued it. He rushed to another hallway which was the center room the meeting room of the council, he was getting annoyed who was here?
Without noticing someone was behind him, he suddenly grabbed by the neck and he felt it a blade to the neck.
"Assassin…" He growled pulling at the arm from killing
"Hello Councilman Tarrlok."
"Who are you? You are not Connor!"
"You are correct in saying so, I will introduce myself." The man said, "I am the Grandmaster of the Assassin's Creed I am the man that many fear and fall before I am the one who set the rules for generation to come…I am Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and you my friend have crossed the Creed."
