His heartbeat quickened, and his pace likewise. The blonde stumbled back and tried to catch himself with his feet and hide his face as much as he could, all at once. He really just ended up tripping and falling to the grassy ground next to the sidewalk, meanwhile no one noticed. The figure that appeared to be Cylus simply passed and everyone else did the same, leaving the pitiable blonde by himself once more.

Though, he wasn't precisely sure how he felt about this, Alois presumed it was perhaps anger… No… It was grief. He was sitting on the ground with his back to a rocky wall, making every attempt he could to shroud himself in the wilting plants near him in the icy flowerbeds. The boy wrapped his arms around his legs and kept himself in a ball of warmth that he protected himself with.

Alois had built up a solid exterior around him, like a suit of armor, because he didn't like to let people hurt him. Sadly, he was still vulnerable. His body and mind ached to have someone to trust and to help keep himself safe from the harsh realities of the world. So part of him would often let people in devoid of realizing it. Those people would almost constantly end up harming him, leaving more scars than he could count anymore.

But, then Ciel came. It was always him. That adorable little bitter navy-haired, eye patch-wearing boy who seemed to always find some way into the blonde's view. Ciel never showed any intention of befriending Alois, or even becoming his acquaintance, but somehow he was always there, and he was the only one who had never hurt him. Or had at least anticipated hurting him.

The blonde curled up tighter, feeling tears well up in his cold, weary blue eyes. How does he actually feel about that damn Ciel Phantomhive?

"…Shit." Alois slurred inaudibly.

After a few dreadfully long minutes of losing all remaining hope in the world, the silence was cut off by something… Uh… Feline in nature.

Mrow.

Huh.

Mrrrow.

It got louder. Alois wiped his red swollen eyes and lifted his head up slightly.

Mrrrrooooowwww.

Purring soon followed and a blue eyed black cat pushed his head through a gap in the flowers.

The blonde picked the rest of his head up and looked closer at the small creature. It looked as if he had been through the wringer, several scars and cuts around his neck and paws. Some looked fairly recent, but the cat kept purring and rubbing his head on the blonde's leg. Alois took a deep breath in and another few tears began falling without him even recognizing it.

Alois started to untangle himself and he sat on his knees and leant forward, bringing his hand up to the cat's nose. The cat rubbed the side of his face on him without second thought and crawled onto his lap shortly after. The flaxen haired boy wiped his eyes one last time and sniffled.

He was going to keep that cat for himself and no one was going to stop him.

~+TIME SKIPPITY, YO+~

"GET THAT THING OUT OF HERE THIS INSTANT, ALOIS."

"BUT HE LIKES ME!" The moderately insane blonde shouted from the outside of their door, kicking it with his foot. He had decided to bring the cat to their dorm room without bearing in mind his roommate's allergy to cats.

Ciel was forcing the dorm room door shut while Alois was on the other side, clinging to the black cat with the entirety of his strength. The cat merely purred and didn't know or care about what was going on.

"I HOPE YOU REALIZE THAT IF YOU LET THAT THING IN HERE, IT WILL CERTAINLY KILL ME."

Alois grimaced, "…But he's hurt!"

"What are you talking about?! Stray animals are bound to have injuries, just leave it alone!"

"When I found him, he had scars and cuts! I can't just leave him like this!" The blonde was starting to let his mind race to the most horrible imaginable consequences of making the cat go outside again, being that he didn't have anywhere to go, "He could die…"

Ciel frowned, "Well, I can't do anything about my allergies… You know I don't want that thing to die, either, right? It's just that I can't do anything about my own medical problems." He went on, "I'm sorry."

"Then I'm sleeping out here." Alois said sternly. He sat down with his back to the door and the cat in his arms, getting as comfortable as he could in his current position.

"You're a complete moron, Alois."

"And this cat is nicer than you, so just think about that, my fellow moron."
