DISCLAIMER: UMM, REALLY?

Nate lay there. Looking at the drab white ceiling and contemplating last night's events. Why in the world did they want with him? How could he be so selfish? Why did he ever have to get drunk? But the most important question was how. How he would get Tessa to him. He had made a promise to some group, that he didn't know what they'd do to him if he failed to bring them Tessa, that might even go as far as kill him, when he was drunk. But now he had to follow through for his own sake.

Nate dragged himself out of the bed and got his stuff to go and take a shower. He put on his robe and then went down the hall and into the bathrooms. He stripped from his robe into the frigid bathroom air. The bathroom was empty as far as he could tell. He turned on the shower to the hottest temperature it would go, which wasn't very hot to be honest, and just added to the frigidness of the air.

He didn't really wash himself. Nate had resolved to just stand there and think. He thought about everything. Swimming, Jessamine, his teammates, but his thoughts always returned to last night's altercation. He figured he might as well start brainstorming.

He sat in the bathroom shower for 30 minutes alone. Few people came in the bathroom, but they always left after a few minutes. By the time Nate turned off the water, he had most everything mapped out.

Nate returned to his dorm room and had sat down at his desk that faced out the window and had again began contemplating the plan when a knock came on his door. "Come in," said Nate softly.

Tessa entered. The Herondale boy seemed to just stand outside his door, not knowing whether he should come in or not. "Nate, are you okay?" asked Tessa.

"I'm fine, Tessie," said Nate, still facing out the window.

"Would you want to come and get breakfast with Will and me?"

"Sure," he responded. It would be a welcome distraction. Nate got out of the desk chair and turned to face Tessa. Her mouth suddenly turned into an 'O'.

"Nate!" exclaimed Tessa, "What the hell happened to you?"

Nate suddenly remembered that he had a black eye. Just when he thought he could live a normal life again for a bit. "Oh, that. I-It's nothing, Tessa. I just fell and hit my head after getting a bit too inebriated last night," said Nate, stammering a bit.

"Jesus, Nate," said Tessa, "You should really go to the nurse."

"No, I'll be fine. Let's go to breakfast," replied Nate.

"Are you sure, Nate?"

Nate's voice rose in anger, "Yes, I'm positive, Tessa. Can we please go now?"

"Yes, yes. Let's go." They proceeded to breakfast with Will and Nate couldn't have been more upset yet happy at the same time.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: Sorry that this one is so short, but it didn't really fit in anywhere else. I also hope that the fact that we get the first chapter from Nate's POV helps a bit, too.
