War, Plastic, and Fire

Chapter 1

Green Army 7th Brigade "Celluwarriors"

7th Brigade was on its 12th battlefield tour. From an initial force of 3,000 men it grew into a formidable 12,000-strong brigade, one of the largest in the Green Natio Army. But after the war, most of the men were killed, others refused to return to the armed forces and some deserted and left. It became one of the smallest brigades in the army, about 700 men all in all. This battlefield tour, they were assigned to the grasslands of Eversmoor, a once large colony of the Orange Republic.

The men of the 7th were resting. No Tan attacks for 3 weeks now. Most of them just slept, played cards, and did nothing in camp. Aside from occasional Tan Air Corps air raids, there was not much to be feared. The 288th Air Battle Squad took care of it. "Oh, I'm so bored!" said Jern, a private. "Well, looks like the war is now over, but it seems that command has failed to notify us, hahaha" retorted Millie, also a private. But then, someone interrupted their conversation. It was Sergeant Mauser. All the men immediately saluted their commander. "Men. Command has issued orders that we will mount a full-scale attack on the Tan airfields at Cordian tomorrow. Get ready this instant. We will attack at high noon.", ordered Sgt. Mauser. And the men followed. At high noon the Green Army turboprop attack planes sounded their attack. The unknowing Tan quickly went to their aircraft batteries, but were bombed by the Greens. Hundreds of Green Men attacked the airfields, and from the air it looked like ants trying to take another anthill. Pvt. Jern and his squad were tasked to spearhead the attack on the main airfield. " Fire!" said an artillery operator. 20 men were hit by a machine gun nest not sighted by them. Millie volunteered to take care of the nest but was cut down in the process. "Medic!" called Pvt. Jern. The medic then quickly ran to their position. Despite being hit in the arm, the medic still examined and helped the severely-wounded soldier. "I'm sorry, he can't live much longer. His arms cannot be re-attached anymore." Then the medic hurriedly left as he heard another plea of help. Millie then died soon afterwards. Jern, enraged by the death of his friend, valiantly attacked the nest, and succeeded in doing so. They took the whole airfield complex by nightfall, and the Greens celebrated the victory. Jerns was resting when 2 men called him. "Pvt. Jern, the Sergeant has called for you," said one of them. He went with the men to the main hangar being used as a hall, and was surprised when the men saw him. They were clapping and cheering for him. "William Jern," called Sgt. Mauser. "You showed valiance in the battlefield and for that I promote you to corporal and award you this Medal of Green Heroism." "Thank You Sir!," said Jern as he accepted the award and saluted. Most of these heroes, were given medals, but they were not allowed to go home. They, like most others, would die among other, less-valiant plastic men.
