The moon beam flashed and swirled around the elf, watching as his eyes closed and then quickly catching the elf as he tilted to the side. The moon beam- Sil it called itself- lowered him gently to the frozen surface of the lake, wondering off handedly if the elf would get cold sleeping on the frozen lake. Sil flickered faster, the moonbeam equivalent of a human shaking its head, to get itself focused.
Now what did Manny say to do after the sleep spell again…?
"Listen well, alright you two?" Manny had said, once Sil and the other moon beam had come close. "You two have a very important job to do. If done right, many spirits can be made happy. And those that have been unseen by all can finally become whole spirits again."
"Now see this powder?" Both moon beams watched as Manny opened the bag, revealing a glittery silver powder. "This is a very important piece to our plan. It can make a spirit become whole and it can gift a whole spirit the ability to see a wraith, not just feel its presence."
"Now Sil," Sil flashed when Manny turned to it, "I need you to take some of this powder," Manny carefully measured a large pinch of the silver glitter and placed it inside a different, much smaller bag, "and bring it to the lake along with the tube. Can you get the tube off my desk, Sil?"
Once Sil had fetched the tube, Manny handed Sil the tag with the spell and told Sil to memorize the spell. That part was easy. Moon beams have a perfect memory. It's only keeping them on track that's difficult.
"Now Sil, I need you to focus, and go to the lake. Straight to the lake," Manny continued when Sil started to protest, "And only to the lake. No stops, alright? This is very important that you stay on task."
Sil flickered slightly.
"Yes, Sil?" Manny said in a very parental voice.
Sil gave up and flickered its assent meekly. Sil may be good at delivering messages, but it was notorious for getting distracted. The distractions usually lasted a few seconds but they happened quite frequently.
Manny smiled and handed Sil the little bag. "Use this and say the spell you just memorized once the wraith is asleep. You know the sleep spell, correct?"
Sil flashed to show that yes, it did know the sleep spell, and not long after, was swirling towards the Burgess Lake, repeating straight to the lake, straight to the lake to itself.
Yes, the other spell, Sil thought, the one with the glitter. Quickly, Sil pulled out the bag- dropping the tube near Legolas in the process, almost hitting him with it- and gently opened it. Sprinkling the powder on the translucent wraith, Sil began whispering the spell.
Spirit unwhole, unseen by most,
Spirit transparent, unheard by all,
Sleep now and be whole!
Become solid as in the past,
Once whole, now not completely there,
Sleep, spirit and become whole!
Sil watched the wraiths form flicker as the glitter fell on him and Sil chanted the spell- Honestly, Sil was surprised the spell wasn't longer, it sounded so simple. The wraith's form rippled like an ocean during a storm, losing all his dimensions for a little bit, leaving only a see through, clear form laying on the lake, before finally pulsing and looking solid for the first time. The lake's surface was no longer visible through the wraith's form and Sil noticed for the first time that the glitter seemed to have disappeared.
Sil swirled through the air above the wraith, and then jetted towards the moon excitedly. Manny would be so excited about this!
~Spirits and Wraiths~
Jack was woken up by a book landing on his chest.
Granted he'd honestly woken up due to worse ways, but laying there curled up on the floor where he'd fallen off the couch, trying to catch his breath, he didn't exactly think about that.
Once he had regained the ability to breathe without his ribs screaming in protest and threatening to go on strike, he gently sat up and noticed the silver moonbeam circling above him.
"What?" Jack wheezed, holding himself. Coughing slightly, he noticed silver flakes falling from his hair. Quickly he shook his hair, causing a cascade of the glitter to fall from his hair. "What the heck…?" Jack looked at the moon beam arch calmly in the air, acting like nothing had happened. Jack watched it swirl towards him, flickering above the book then towards the exit to the library. It stopped a couple meters away and waited for Jack to follow.
Slowly, Jack got up, almost slipping on the very large book the moonbeam had dropped on him. Carefully picking up his staff and the book – the moonbeam had dropped it on him for a reason, so it must be important- and walked cautiously towards the moon beam. He'd never seen a moon beam up close before, only seen them lead other spirits to somewhere.
What's it leading me too? Jack wondered, following the moonbeam out of the library.
Apparently the moon beam wanted it to be a surprise because it didn't respond when he asked it. Deciding to go along with it, Jack continued following the moon beam down the hall way, trailing glitter behind him.
I'm leaving a mess…Oh well. Jack thought, looking behind him. That was his thought before walking into someone. Feeling large hands steady him, Jack looked up to see North's concerned face.
"Oh, hi North! I didn't see you there." Jack's smile drooped when he noticed the concerned, almost sad look on North's face. "…Is something wrong…?"
"Jack. We need to talk." North said solemnly.
"Okay, North, but I'm kind of busy now…" quickly Jack motioned to the moonbeam which was now flashing behind North patiently.
"Oh." North looked behind him and noticed the moonbeam for the first time. "Of course."
"Thank you." Jack said as North moved out of the way. He shuffled nervously. "Um, see you later?"
"Later Jack, later." North watched Jack shuffle around and follow the moon beam which lead him to the end of the hallway towards a window. After Jack had leapt out of it, North moved towards the window and gently closed it.
Yes…later… North thought sadly watching Jack fly away following the flickering moon beam.
Quietly, North headed back to his office and sent a quick message to the other Guardians. It was about time they talked to Jack about his past and imaginary spirits.
~Spirits and Wraiths~
Why is the moon beam leading me towards Burgess? Jack watched his hometown's lights get brighter as they good closer. Did someone get hurt? Did Pitch get out? Jack thought with a sudden chill run down his back. Alarmed, he looked at the moon beam calmly leading him towards Burgess like everything was fine. He didn't think so, but from what he knew about moon beams they weren't the most alert lot.
Nervously Jack asked, "Pitch didn't escape did he?"
The moonbeam didn't give an answer besides a faint ripple of light which Jack got the feeling was a no, shut up and follow so Jack gave up and tried to ignore the questions that were bubbling up in his throat.
Jack's curiosity was only increased when another moon beam flew past them from the lake. Jack watched it swirl and flicker excitedly like something great had just happened. It looked too happy for Pitch to have escaped.
Jack looked back to the moon beam which was calmly leading him to the lake. Deciding that the best way to find out what was the fuss was to follow the moon beam, Jack bit back all his questions and followed the moon beam, which had sped up as they got closer to the lake.
The lake looked beautiful, this high up. Then again Jack always thought it looked best frozen solid and up high. It looked like something out of a photograph. Jack floated in circles above it, as the moon beam headed towards the ground, then quickly caught up as it neared the ground.
That's strange. As Jack got closer to the lake's surface, he noticed a strange flicker in the middle of the lake. Like a mirror that's getting moved, it reflected the light of the moon in flashes and bursts of white light in the shape of a person laying on their side. Landing next to the moon beam next to the flickering shape, Jack investigated the source of the reflected light.
It was a person, Jack realized. A very tall, thin person with long hair, wearing what looked like a dress. A person who looked like they were made of solid glass. Jack could hardly see any detail of the person. He probably wouldn't have even noticed them if they hadn't reflected the light of the moon.
"Who are you...?" Jack asked the person. He turned to the moonbeam "Who is this?" The moonbeam flickered. "I don't know what that means." Another flicker, this time in a 'you know them' way.
Jack stared at the person. They were quite tall and seemed to have no problem with the cold or the fact that they were sleeping in the middle of a frozen pond. And they felt familiar. The glass-like person felt comforting to Jack, by just being here. Jack recalled many times were a familiar presence was near him as he came here to seek comfort. Tentatively he reached out and poked the spirit in front of him.
He felt the cool skin of the spirit's cheek, and the feeling of solidified cool mist.
Jack whipped around to the moonbeam. "Is this the spirit that's been here?" The moonbeam flickered at him. A yes then. "Really? Why can I see them now?" Jack raised his voice. "Why not when I needed someone?"
The moonbeam made no motions. Jack sighed. "Of course your not going to answer..." He turned to look at the spirit and jolted. "what the?"
The spirit no longer seemed glass like and barely solid. The color was slowly returning to their form. Jack noticed blond hair and pointed ears. A long white rode with green embroidery. And how the spirits lips were turning purple.
"Oh shoot." Jack quickly placed a hand on the spirits forehead and noticed how cold they felt. "oh shoot, oh shoot, oh shoot, I need to take them somewhere warm..."
Jack quickly gathered up the long limbs and realized how light the spirit luckily was. Juggling his staff, the spirit, and the book, he turned to look at the moonbeam. "I'm going to the Pole, North can help."
The moonbeam watched as Jack flew off, trying not to drop anything. Once he was well on his way to the pole, did the moonbeam float off to the moon to report to the man in the moon. Everything was going fine.
Ok. I'm not dead. I apologize this took so long, I really mean that. Graduating high school then having to worry about college sucked all my motivation and creativity. Then Dragon Age happened. And the Silm read a long. And then I lost my flash drive for a couple months and I forgot about this story. And then I remembered during a period of extreme writers block. I finally got this done recently. I hope it's good, I haven't been feeling good about anything really, since I'm still trying to get a job.
And I read your reviews. Again,I'm really sorry. I am not a fast person. Nor am I good at keeping deadlines.
And to the person who left the rather passive-aggressive guest review this morning: You're not helping me write faster. If anything your fucking attitude made me want to delay this chapter for another two weeks out of pure spite.
So now that's out of the way, enjoy the long awaited fic chapter, again I'm sorry it took so long!
