"So I'm carrying Izaya back to the village?" Kadota said, yawning tiredly. Being woken up with the rising sun by two big overactive kids was not something he was hoping for to start off his day. His head and back still ached even now from being pushed off his bed with the covers.

"Yea—aaah…! That's the plan…" Even though Kadota didn't look so well, Shinra was looking far worse than him. Shinra yawned several times and rubbed his droopy eyes, carefully nudging his glasses up to do so.

Erika snickered from the side, "Oi~! Oi~! Wasn't it Dotachin who told us to go to sleep so we wouldn't be tired for today? Looks like Dotachin should listen to his own advice too~!"

Said 'Dotachin' glared back at her in exasperation, "Maybe I wouldn't be so tired if someone didn't wake me up so early in the morning."

"But Kadota-san! We technically woke up even earlier than you did! And look at us, we're doing just fiiine~!" Walker chided with a wide mischievous smile spread across his face.

"Exactly Dotachin~!"

"That's because you two are always full of energy and then some. Not everybody is as energetic as you two, you know? And don't call me Dotachin!"

Yawning again, Shinra drawled out in a sleepy voice, "But Kadota-san, aren't you usually an early-riser? I remember back when we still used to go to hunter school that you'll always be the first one there, waiting for the rest of us."

"Huh, I guess you're right. I don't know, maybe it's because it's a new location, but I've been traveling a lot so I've gotten used to sleeping on different surfaces, and it wasn't like the bed wasn't comfy…" He said back, rubbing his forehead from underneath his specially made black hat.

Looking back up, the werewolf hunter quirked an eyebrow at the doctor, "You look worse than I do actually, Shinra. Were you woken up early too by…?" He looked over at the two otakus.

"We didn't wake up, Shinra-kun! He was already awake when we got to his room…" Erika protested, smiling sheepishly near the end as she revealed her would-have-been plan.

"No, no, they didn't wake me up. I got pushe—…I woke up in the middle of the night…" Shinra hesitated for a second, nearly revealing the truth, before quickly covering it up. Celty would probably beat him again for telling anybody about what happened last night. Coughing awkwardly, he continued his explanation, "But after I woke up, I couldn't go back to sleep. No matter how tired I was, I just couldn't go back to sleep. I wonder if I have insomnia."

Despite Kadota noticing the falter in Shinra's words, he felt as if the truth was something he'll rather not know, so ignoring the obvious lie, he shared his opinion, "I think it was just a one time thing, so you shouldn't worry too much about it. We can all rest once we get to town."

"U-Uh ya… We should probably round everybody up. You go get Izaya while I try to find Shizuo and Celty. Oh and we can't forget the twins—!"

"IZA-NII! YOU HAVE TO GO AND THAT MEANS YOU'RE GOING! IZAAAAA-NIIIII! I WILL DRAG YOUR ASS THERE IF I HAVE TO!"

Speak of the little devils.

"Oh god, was that Mairu? What is she doing?!" Shinra jolted at the loud screeching demand while he quickly rushed upstairs with Kadota following closely behind.

The werewolf hunter turned around to see the otakus following behind too and stopped them from going any further. They gave him questioning looks before he said, "Erika, Walker, Shinra and I are going to check out what's going on. You two should go get Celty and Shizuo, so we can leave sooner, alright?"

"You got it, Dotachin!"

"Don't call me Dotachin."

"Yep~! Exactly what Kuru-nee said, we're going to Bukuro today so hurry up and wake up~!" Mairu said loudly, and not a second later, the door flew open.

Izaya would have dodged the tackle pounce initiated by his devilish twin sisters. In fact, he did try! But as soon as he started to back away, using his hands, he winced when too much pressure was put onto his injured one, and fell onto his back on the bed.

"Iza-nii! You're actually awake!" Mairu cheered as she jumped onto her brother. Landing on his stomach, she put her hands on his chest to keep him still.

Kururi followed right after her twin, sitting on his legs instead to prevent him from escaping. Meekly, she repeated what Mairu said, "Awake…" And even though it was as quiet as can be, the same devilish tone was still there.

"Mairu! Kururi! Get off of me! Do you know how heavy you two are?" Izaya groaned, trying to push them off without injuring his hurt hand any further.

"Iza-nii…mean…"

"Yeah! Exactly what Kuru-nee said! Are you saying we're fat?! Because we are not fat and therefore obviously not heavy! Iza-nii is just weak and skinny like a flea! If you put anything on a flea, it'll be too heavy and end up killing it~!" Mairu smirked, fully satisfied with her insult, though the mild irritation from her brother's comment on her weight still stuck to her.

"Get. Off."

"No."

"Mairu!" Izaya said in a commanding tone. He just woke up and it was way too early for his sister's bullshit. Wasn't it them that caused him fall, literally fall, into this very predicament that led him to being in bed in the first place?

He gritted his teeth as he frowned at their rebellious natures. Sure, they never listened to him before, never, not even once, and this should be no surprise or something for him to get mad at… But the dull throbbing of his head that soon escalated to a full on splitting headache, due to their absolutely 'hilarious' jokes, might have some affect on his tolerance and mood. Passing out was usually something that people didn't sit well with after all.

Pouting, Mairu sighed childishly, "Fine, fine, I'll get off. Stop being Mr. No-fun already!"

After getting off of Izaya, the twins began shifting through one of his closets, flipping through his clothes without his permission as if they owned them. They didn't own them though. And they never will.

Feeling his head really begin to split open from the heightening migraine, he grumbled out a snarky question, "Now what are you two doing? Can't you two just leave me alone already? You already caused me to fall from the second floor. Was that not enough?"

The two girls instantly ceased their ruffling. In a soft hollow voice, Mairu voiced what she has been thinking ever since the incident, "About that, Iza-nii… I don't think we caused you to fall. We only pushed you lightly, and that shouldn't have caused you to completely lose your balance and tip over. In fact, we saw you catch your balance before you suddenly lurched backwards again."

"Iza-nii…fall…purposely... (Did Iza-nii fall on purpose?)" Kururi speculated.

And Izaya realized that what they're saying was true. Usually, he wouldn't have fallen even if the small push turned into a full-on shove. He remembered that he was indeed about to regain his balance before he just unnaturally…well…fell back.

The way he lost his balance again was just too rushed and unrealistic. It was almost as if someone pulled him back harshly.

But no one could have pulled him. Was he forgetting something important? No. Orihara Izaya never forgets anything. Never.

"It was probably just another dose of bad luck. Everything has been going terribly wrong ever since you two went to Bukuro even though I told you specifically not to," Izaya scolded. This was bringing up terrible memories of the last couple of days. Things were not going his way and it made him absolutely furious. First the kis—… First, his sisters going to Bukuro, then bringing a multitude of people he didn't want here, second, falling from the 2nd floor and passing out with some injuries and third, but not least, what was happening currently.

Did you think he was going to say kiss? Please. What kiss? As far as Izaya knew, there was no kiss. Ever.

The two devils giggled, borderline evilly. Scratch that, full-on evilly.

Mairu snickered as she mocked her older brother, "Stop acting like that. Sure, it caused you some trouble… But you, Iza-nii, are actually a little glad that we did—"

Before Mairu could even finish that accusation, Izaya interjected with his own rebuttal to piss his sisters off in return, "I've decided that I'm not going to Bukuro today with any of you."

He said that remark knowing that it'll unnerve their excitement. He already knows that he'll have to go to back to the village if he wanted to heal his injuries. Or maybe he could just drink again from Shiz—

Nope.

Bad idea, Izaya. What the fuck was he thinking?

Just…HELL no. That ain't ever happening again. Never.

"Wha…" Their jaws dropped open simultaneously as their red eyes slowly widened.

"You heard me. I'm not going."

Izaya already sensed that he couldn't back out of this opportunity of going to Bukuro to finally escape from his group of 'friends', but…it couldn't hurt to mess with them a little. They were little shits after all.

"IZA-NII! YOU HAVE TO GO AND THAT MEANS YOU'RE GOING! IZAAAAA-NIIIII! I WILL DRAG YOUR ASS THERE IF I HAVE TO!" She shouted angrily and lunged herself at him.

Izaya had already predicted that she would likely act impulsively like that and he quickly jumped off the edge of the bed that he had been sitting on, anticipating this. He backed up to the other side of the room, only stumbling a bit from the sudden movement dizziness and headache. His lack of energy also didn't help, but he's worked with less before.

"Iza-nii! Get back here!" She growled childishly as she leapt after him, Kururi following her every move in complete silence.

The raven male laughed manically as he continued to avoid his sisters' attacks.

Izaya dodged another swipe from their hands when Shinra poked his head into his room from the open doorway.

"Izaya! You're awake!" He said happily, "This is great! Now we can all go to Bukuro without any unnecessary hassle!"

"Shinra, I'm not going."

"Eh?! But you have to go, Izaya! "

"Exactly, you have to go, Iza-nii!" Mairu agreed. The twins stopped attempting to catch Izaya, allowing Shinra to talk freely with their brother. Maybe he can convince the stubborn male to go.

"I don't have to do anything," Izaya replied haughtily.

"Iza-nii!"

"You guys do know he's just messing with you, right? When has he ever given up the chance to go to Bukuro before?" Kadota, who has been watching the bickering passively from the side, finally spoke up.

There was a pause before Izaya smirked smugly, with a pinch of chagrin at having been discovered.

"And leave it to Dotachin to find me out~! Maybe he's Mr. No-fun~!" He said with childish mock. Kadota frowned at the terrible nickname, but said nothing of it.

"Izaya! That was a mean thing to do! You know that I don't know when you're serious or not!" Shinra whined.

With a big huff, Mairu pushed against her brother's back, angrily, like a small child throwing a tantrum, and whined out in a shrill voice, "Iza-nii is just naturally mean! How were we supposed to know too? It's not like we can read your mind, hmph!" Kururi eventually joined in and pushed from the front, making Izaya rock back and forth between them as a sort of retribution.

The raven's eye twitched, causing his mask to falter for barely a millisecond before it was back in place. The twitch was so small that to the naked eye, it would never have been seen or noticed.

"Yeah, yeah, I know," he sighed, "Are we going to go anytime now? Or did you all just barge into my room and wake me up for no reason?" Izaya said, purposely saying that they woke him up.

"Ok, Walker! Dotachin entrusted us with this important task! That means that we have to complete it or else we'll disappoint Dotachin greatly! So…where should we search first?"

"I don't know! Should we split up like in all of the classic mystery novels we've read? That seems like it'll work, though one of us will either get lost or chased…but since there's no immediate danger here, it should be alright."

"You're right, Yumacchi! But this could possibly lead to the revealing of a new antagonist…" Rubbing her chin, she though long and hard for another answer.

"You're right… Hmmm…let's just go look for them together! That way—!" Walker got caught off as Erika completed the other part of his sentence, coming up with the other solution at the same time.

"—That way the new antagonist is usually revealed to be currently attacking the people we're looking for! And then when we bust in, we'll all gang up on it and defeat its first wave of attacks!"

Knowing that Erika was able to think up the same plan as him made him extremely happy, and he agreed enthusiastically, smiling widely, "Exactly! That way everyone is safe."

"You're a genius, Yumacchi!"

"What's going on here? Is something happening?"

Snapping their heads in the direction the voice came from, they were met with Shizuo and Celty walking up to them.

"Shizu-Shizu! And Celty-chan! What a coincidence! We were just going to go look for you! Dotachin wanted us to tell you that we're going to be going soon since it looks like Mai-chan woke up Iza-Iza!"

"I said don't call me that nickname. I hate it almost as much as 'Shizu-chan'," Shizuo said, growling out the name in anger in the last part.

"But whyyy!? It's sooo cute~!" Erika squealed. Walker, having more sense of the dangers that lie in this situation, promptly clasped his hand over her mouth before she was able to say anything else that could possibly put their lives at stake. Kadota had warned them that once they arrived at Bukuro, they were not to anger any of his old friends, especially Heiwajima Shizuo. When Erika asked who that was, he remembered him clearly saying,

"He's a short-tempered blonde. Make him angry and your life is on the line. Even I can barely help you at that point. You'll find out once we get to Bukuro, he's one of the most well known people over there, and very hard to miss."

"Are you sure~? He sounds like a big softie to me~!" Erika teased.

"Who knows? He might be. But he certainly doesn't show it when he's mad."

"Don't worry, Kadota-san! We won't piss him off! He sounds so awesome and cool! Like one of those badass characters who charges up and changes drastically when angered, and always ends up beating the bad guys no matter how strong they are!" Walker laughed at the similarities.

"Yep, that description describes Shizuo perfectly."

"Really?!" He gaped. He, himself, didn't even know why he was so shocked, since supernatural beings are a norm in their world.

"Really," Kadota affirmed.

"T-That's enough, Erika! I-I think we should tell Shinra and Kadota that we've found them!" Walker stammered out as he pulled the struggling girl away. To be honest, he didn't recognize the blonde as the blonde that Kadota was talking about at first. Even though it was the only blonde that he met so far that knew Kadota. How was he supposed to know? Kadota could know more than one blonde male after all. The blonde also didn't seem very short-tempered, but once Walker got a look at the pure rage radiating from his aura a little while later, there was no mistaking it.

This blonde male was Heiwajima Shizuo. A man with anger you should absolutely not test if you want to live.

Sadly, even though Erika got a look at it too, has no caution for her life around this man or at all really. Maybe she doesn't realize yet? The danger she's putting herself in? Walker highly doubted. As delirious as she could be at times, she wasn't stupid.

He stopped pulling the struggling girl towards the stairs when he heard a heavy groan from atop the stairs and descending.

"What are you two doing now?"

"Kadota!" Walker released Erika, deeming it safe that she won't say something that could possibly anger Shizuo, for now at least, "We got Shizuo and Celty like you asked."

"Oh. I see," Kadota replied, waving over at them. Shizuo and Celty waved back.

"Yo. When are we going?" Shizuo called out.

"When Shinra gets downstairs. He's asking Izaya a few questions. I think Izaya's little sisters are also getting ready."

Not a second later after he said that, a hyperactive girl came bounding down the stairs with an emotionless girl following close behind. The mischievous grin on Mairu and the mischievous glint in Kururi's eyes were enough of an indication that they were either excited about this trip or were up to no good. It's most likely a mixture of both.

They were adorned with matching black capes that reached all the way to the ground. Kururi's was held together with a cerulean blue broach while Mairu was held together by a crimson ruby one.

Shinra followed right behind talking to Izaya, who seemed to be tuning the bespectacled brunet out.

Izaya changed his cape to a full out cloak. His wings were shrunken down to their miniaturized size, so it could be concealed behind the long flowing dark fabric. His brows were furrowed together in though as Shinra kept rambling on.

"—so if what you're saying is true then vampires were originally meant to sleep outside? But why though…vampires seem to possess the same level of intelligence as humans after all so it doesn't make sense for them to be made to sleep outside when they can easily obtain a bed or something of the sort. Is this the work of evolution?! But from what I've heard from you and that mystic book Erika possesses, the origin of how vampires came to be was rather mysterious. I guess that's why you're called supernatural beings. You know, I'm still confused on some things about your species. You should really clue me in more now that we're going to hang out a lot again. Now what was I talking about again? Oh yeah, anyways, if this was not a work of evolution and this was just a natural trait, then I must say that this instinct seems rather counterproductive, if you ask me. Wait, you're not lying to me, are you? Are you lying to me?! I certainly hope not, Izaya! Hey? Hey, are you even listening to me, Izaya? Izaya? Izaya!" Shinra prattled on and on, trying to get Izaya's attention near the end since he finally noticed that the raven wasn't actually listening.

Shinra had pestered Izaya about what happened that caused him to soar through the air like he was a puppet being controlled by a rowdy 5 year old. Giving in, Izaya gave the nosy doctor the gist of it. It wasn't like the raven could have come up with an excuse as to why his wings suddenly developed a retarded mind of its own. The said mind that they developed was almost as retarded as a certain protozoan. Almost. But not quite since it was Izaya's wings still. And everything, along with anything, about Izaya was smarter than that blonde degenerated amoeba.

Ok, that was a lie. About him not being able to come up with a good excuse, not the part where Shizuo was more stupid that Izaya's wings, because that part was 100% true to the bone. What? That was a weird comparison since wings don't have minds or brains of their own that are separate from the body it's attached too? Too bad that was Izaya's point about Shizuo. They're both brainless.

Anyways, it wasn't like Izaya couldn't think of a good lie, because he damn well can. He was able to come up with an excuse for anything. Humans were so gullible. Shinra included. But Shinra's smarter, kinda? Ok, not really. But considering Shinra's his only friend, Izaya decided this little indulgence in new information couldn't hurt him. It wasn't like Shinra was that smart, or at least smart enough to use it against the raven vampire somehow. After all, there was no way Shinra could win against Izaya if he had the audacity to challenge him to mind games that included the use of valuable information. Haha, that's just ridiculous bullshit.

"Shinra, can you stop rambling for a second so we can get going now or what?"

It was early in the morning when Mikado woke up, dressed in his best clothes, and ate a small breakfast. It was an important day today. He was enrolled in a new school.

Mikado was interested in this supposedly prestigious hunter school ever since he first heard of it from Kida while he was preparing to move to Bukuro.

Kida said that he was going to get into that school no matter what. Said that hunter school was where the elite were gathered from the village, that your wealth or status didn't matter to the decision of whether you were to be chosen or not.

Kida further explained that every year all the 15-16 year olds would be gathered to the main plaza of Bukuro, where a makeshift stage would be made, and only 30 teens would be chosen, 15 girls and 15 boys. If you were chosen, that meant your future was already set and defined. That it was fate.

At first, Mikado wanted to go just as much as Kida, but realized that the possibility of getting in was extremely low for them. The higher officials decide who gets in so you can't take an entrance exam, or pass some kind of test if you wanted to attend. So naturally, Mikado thought it was impossible for himself to be chosen since he was as normal as normal could get and as ordinary and as ordinary could get. There was nothing special about him…

Therefore, any chances of him getting in were nonexistent in this universe.

But against all odds, Mikado was proven wrong.

When Kida was called up, hope swelled up in Mikado's chest, and continued to grow when he saw the triumphant smile on his childhood friend's face.

When he was called up, he couldn't believe it. His whole life was being turned upside down, changing and twisting into something that he could only have dreamed of.

A dream that, unbeknownst to even Mikado himself, inadvertently started everything.

The raven-haired boy smiled widely as he thought about this turn of events in his life while walking next to Kida to the designated location.

Kida was no doubt boasting about how he was going to get all the ladies, but Mikado was paying no mind to it as each anxious step towards the school grounds was a step closer to his dream.

They reached the building and stepped through the wooden doors and into a large classroom. Several of the selected teens were already seated. Some spared a glance at the newcomers, and some didn't even bother.

The desks weren't half shabby, but they certainly weren't brand new either. There were small strips of paper on the desks. Each one had a name written on it, looks like they're getting assigned seats.

Seeing his name, Mikado took the second to last seat in the last row while Kida plopped down on the one in the row next to his. How lucky they were to get to sit near each other.

Soon Anri came in, shyly, dressed in something clean and simple. She claimed a seat up front before going to the back of the room to greet the two boys. Sadly, it looked like Anri wouldn't be able to talk with them during class. Not…not that they were going to talk when the teacher was…pfft, bad students? What lies they were indeed. Mikado obviously meant during breaks, duh…even though you can move around during break time. Whatever…

Banter between the three proceeded normally with Kida flirting with Anri, who always looks away shyly, and with Mikado 'defending' her against Kida's unbelievably bad pick-up lines.

More students slowly entered and sat in their appointed seat before the school bell could be heard ringing outside, resonating through the walls of the classroom. An old man dressed in a vested suit walked in with a bunch of papers and books in his arms. He looked tired and the wrinkles on his face greatly defined that.

Clearing his throat, and getting the class' attention, he began to speak, "Welcome and good morning, everybody. As I'm sure you all already know, this is hunter school and you will start attending here on a regular basis. Though this is a private room, you will come here for classes, but bathrooms and the cafeteria are in the main building."

Several questioning faces stared at the man, "Oh, yes, let me explain. Ahem, well, many of you know this place as hunter school but our official name is—"

"Woah, woah, wait, what? This place actually has an official name? It's not just hunter school? But everyone calls it hunter school! How has no one informed me of this?" Kida blurted out from the back. Mikado tried to shush him to no avail.

The elder man jumped slightly at the outburst before answering meekly, "Uh…yes… Like I was saying its official name is—!"

This time the interruption came from the doors being thrust open. A man in a buttoned up lab coat walked in, a cough mask covered the bottom half of his face while weirdly-shaped tinted glasses covered his eyes.

"Hello, chosen young people! Welcome to hunter school, also more commonly known as Rai Academy! Yes, we are indeed connected to Jin Academy, the school for the young people who weren't chosen. Some people know us as the private Rai course or section of Jin Academy," he answered loudly and clearly. Oddly enough, the cough mask didn't muffle his voice very much.

"Commonly known? You're joking right? Nobody knew this place as 'Rai Academy' or the 'Private Rai whatever of Jin Academy'! What kind of a name is Rai Academy anyways?" Kida countered back. This was indeed mindblowing to him. This school had a name? What nonsense.

"I agree! What kind of stupid name is Rai Academy? It's like the person who named this damned place fucking gave up half way through and was like 'Screw it!' Couldn't they have come up with something a little more, oh, I don't know, creative?! I swear this place is so half-assed!" A fiery boy with spiky fiery-orange colored hair complained with Kida.

It was just a name. But apparently finding out that such a hugely known school actually had a not so hugely known name was ironic enough for this outrage. Though Mikado still thought this reaction was an overreaction.

"Young man! We will not use such vulgar language in the classroom. This is a place of learning, not buffoonery. It does not matter what the name of this place is or if the person who named it was indeed a genius!"

"What? The person who named this shit hole was obviously an idiot of maxed out stupidity! It was you, wasn't it? No wonder nobody knows what this school is called. Hell, I wouldn't want to know to begin with! In fact, Rai Academy is such a sucky name that I wish I could forget it was ever called such a lame name! And speaking of names, I have a name too, you know? It's not 'Young man'."

"Boy, shush your vulgar mouth this instant! I'll have you know that my intelligence is far vaster than yours!" The man in the gas mask responded. They were arguing like 5 year olds…well, very foul-mouthed 5 year olds…

"Didn't I just say that I actually had a name, gas mask? It's Moyasu Hio, and I think my intelligence is way bigger than yours if you named a supposedly 'elite' school such a shitty name—" Hio began to snap back when a short girl with long straight black hair stood up and smashed her hands on a desk, creating the same raucous sound of a heavy textbook being dropped to the ground.

"How dare you! How fucking dare you insult such a beautiful name?! Hio, you say your name is? Hio is by far a more pathetic name compared to Rai. I can barely even look at your face without puking out my breakfast! This beautifully named school might overlook the wealth and status of your kind of people, but that doesn't mean that you're not a common pig!" She screamed angrily, rage burning in her eyes as a girl with long blonde hair tried to calm her down at the side.

"Ohohoho~! What do we have hear? Someone actually likes the name? That's a shocker, little lady! Too bad I don't give a fuck. I don't care what you say. Rai is a fucking stupid name," Hio scowled back.

"Why you—I'll rip your innards out and feed them to the dogs at my estate, before I proceed to fucking desecrate your dead corpse with my foot! You'll be so mutilated after I'm through with you that no one will be able to identify your body!"

"Oh… That sounded hella dirty! I didn't know you were into that kind of stuff. Or that you are attracted to people, like me, who's apparently a 'common pig'! Do you wanna get lunch together or something, Miss…" Hio smirked. He was rhetorically asking for her name, but he already had an itching suspicion that her name was Rai. Wasn't there someone called up with that name during the choosing ceremony?

"WHY DON'T I COME OVER THERE AND TELL YOU WITH MY FIST RIGHT NOW—!"

The eyes that have been watching the heated verbal fight snapped in the direction where a loud deafening 'bang' came from. There was a hole in one of the walls now, from the gun that the masked fellow was holding.

"Enough of this useless bickering! Young people just don't have the respect that we adults have anymore. Tsk tsk. Getting back on topic shall we, today you all will take a test, and yes, it's mandatory, and no, you can't drop out of this school no matter how much you don't want to attend here. You were chosen and that means that the higher officials, one of which is me, have seen potential in you that could benefit the future. You were chosen to be a hunter to fight the forces of evil because we have observed your personality, your psychical ability and condition, your talents, your flaws, your academics, your disabilities, your past, your present, and your predicted future. We have seen your entire life and deemed you worthy."

The entire class was dead silent as they waited for the mysterious man to continue. What he just said made some look away in apprehensiveness or nervousness, while others stared at him directly in disdain as an act of rebellion. Either way, this news was very off-putting to everyone. It felt as if their privacy was never a thing to in the first place.

Mikado was one of those who looked at him apprehensively. Turning to look to his right, he saw Kida staring—no, rather glaring at the masked man. Mikado quirked an eyebrow and gulped, but said nothing of it, Kida looked like he was in a bad mood. Was he still bummed about the Academy's name? He looked to the front again and sighed heavily when he couldn't see the expression on Anri's face. Knowing her though, she was probably being shy as usual.

"As I was saying, you'll all be getting uniforms today also. After the test, that is."

The class stayed silent.

Peeved, he imitated a small child's voice, "Ohhh~ Sensei~! What is this special test supposed to determine for us~?" Changing back to his original voice, he answered his own question, "That's a very good question, good student. Well, you see, in Rai Academy, we will train you to become excellent hunters of your specified category!"

A few blinked several times, but said nothing still. It was as if the whole class unanimously agreed to keep quiet to intentionally provoke the creep.

Unfortunately, said creep seems to not be as affected as he continues to imitate a child's voice that is beginning to border onto a young girl's, "What's a specified category, Sensei~? Hmmm?"

The extra squeakiness to his voice and the light swaying of his hips made many of the students grimace as he continued on. What is this even turning into? Some childish rivalry?

"A specified category is the category you'll be assigned to according to your test results," he said vaguely. He knew he caught at least some of our attention.

Mikado was highly curious. This seemed like important matter and he wanted to ask countless questions. However, with the amount of silent tension in the room and the passive grudge going on, he couldn't find it in himself to raise his hand.

It seems like the rest of the classroom couldn't either, and with a dejected sigh, the man threaded his fingers through his hair, giving up.

"Young people these days…" He grumbled crossly. That sure was a sudden mood change.

Straightening up, he adjusted his tinted glasses that hid his eyes. The light suddenly reflecting from it gave him a more intimidating look. He stared seriously at the class, explaining the unasked questions, "I have other important meetings to tend to today so let's make this informative and brief, shall we? Since it looks like none of you are willing to humor me today, I see no reason to waste any more of my time here."

Mikado's ears perked up like many others.

"There are 5 major supernatural threats in Bukuro and many other parts of the world. Even though there are many other supernatural creatures, these 5 are shown to have done the most harm and create the most threat to the human population. The 5 categories are Vampires, Witches, Werewolves, Demons, and Shinigami, also known as Grim Reapers. The test will determine which one you are compatible to fight against, so you better answer the questions honestly because if you end up in an incompatible category then, you're dead. And don't be so full of yourself to think that you're strong enough to go against any category for you'll be surely mistaken. One person can only be in one category, there is yet to be anybody that I've seen who is compatible in more than one. No matter how strong one is, fighting in the wrong category will almost always end in death for them."

The class visibly gulped and cringed. Varied whispers were passed about as they waited anxiously for him to continue.

"Further more, just because you are put into one category, doesn't mean it doesn't require skill to defeat your foes. No category is easy even if you are compatible to it and they are all equal in difficulty so there is no most and least hardest, thus I see completely no reason why you'll want to answer the questions on the test in any other way other than truthfully. You'll also be given the basics of defending and retreating against a supernatural creature from another category if you happen to stumble upon one, though you won't be able to defeat it like I've said before, hence I highly advise you to not fight it. There is already a dwindling of hunters since it looks like the supernatural creatures, even though they are lower than mere animals, have intelligence and developed a way to defeat hunters by ambushing ones of another category in groups. Therefore, you'll all be organized into groups of 5 to effectively go against their new strategy of petty surprise attacks. Each one of you will be in a different category within the group, and are expected to work and travel everywhere together."

Taking long strides to the door, he opened it and with a wave of his hand, he bid farewell, "Well, I think I've covered everything for basics. Fret not though, we will go into more detailed explanations as the days pass by. Now I really must be taking my leave now. I have meetings to attend to and work to do. Goodbye, young people~!" And with that said, he slammed the door shut.

"I guess now is when we take the test. Please take out your pencil and stay in your seats until all papers are turned in," the actual teacher, who has been waiting patiently for the eccentric man to leave, said as he passed out the test to each student.

The trek through the forest was awkward if anything else. Well, at least for Shizuo and Izaya it was. But the tension emanating from the both of them eventually integrated into the excited atmosphere and killed it. Brutally.

They weren't really listening to the other people's conversations to start with though. Just ignoring all the excessive snickering, laughing, giggling, talking, and chattering. They only noticed the change in atmosphere, which they inadvertently caused, when the loudest silence they've ever heard engulfed them all in even more awkwardness and tension. By the time they made it to the entrance into the village, an audible sigh of relief could be heard from the group. And with no hesitation, they all unintentionally split up as you entered the town, each of them with their own plans in mind.

Izaya was one of those who immediately separated from the group when the first chance appeared. He needed to get some blood in his body now. He could already feel his hunger grow feral, turning into something much more untamed. Thus requiring even more energy to try to control and suppress it.

Izaya scowled inwardly at himself. He knew he should've taken more blood from Shizuo when he had the chance, instead of just taking enough to heal and get home. Why did he decide to take so little? Maybe if he'd taken more than he wouldn't be in this predicament of having to hunt and feed in the morning. It was much more complicated in the morning.

Everything was so much more complicated in the morning.

He'll have to stay out of the sun while still trying to blend in with the darkness of the limited shadows. Wearing a cloak solves that problem, but cloaks were so hard to wear without looking suspicious. He could already feel some cautious and skeptical stares directed at him from the other villagers in the crowd. Humans also rarely went into ominous places where they could get attacked. During daytime, people were much more boring, tame, and never took risks. Nighttime was when everything takes a turn for the worse.

But Izaya didn't hate it. The daytime had many likable qualities that the night lacked.

With his hood properly covering his face and entire body, Izaya swiftly maneuvered his way through the crowds. No matter where you are in Bukuro, it always seemed like it was packed with humans. Maybe in the morning some streets were slightly clear, but barely really. And this is why…

He could never leave Bukuro.

The large amounts of humans that gather here was truly extraordinary. Who could possibly abandon such an interesting town with so much unpredictability? Everyday there was so much happening that even he couldn't possibly keep track of it all.

So many variables. So many humans. So many possibilities and outcomes.

There was no way he could leave Bukuro alone. It was bustling with what Izaya desired, with what Izaya loved. Bukuro was where H…

His thoughts were cut short when a woman of long flowing black hair caught his attention. Her back was turned to Izaya as she walked into a dark alley a good distance in front of him. She strolled in there without hesitation or fear, her figure was standing upright, tall, and dignified.

The only reason she even caught the raven's attention was because out of everyone in the crowd that he was blending in with, she was the only one who diverged out of the norm, out of the people going to and fro, back and forth, but never to the sides. She was the only one who broke out of the straight line everyone else was marching in.

Humans like her exuded mystery, and mystery brought about the unknown, which in turn attracted trouble, and trouble like Izaya was exactly what she had coming for her.

Yes, that woman was going to be the vampire's next victim. How perfect, he didn't have to coax someone gullible into an isolated area now.

Stepping out of the groups of people, Izaya also made his way into the alleyway, quietly and stealthily. Nobody from the crowd noticed, and if they did, they didn't care enough to do anything.

Humans were solitary creatures after all. They never cared for anything that wasn't worth their attention. They only cared about themselves and only themselves. They live their lives, causing despair to rain down on the trail behind, trying to make the most out of their numbered days even if it meant cutting short the days of others of lesser importance to them.

Do you know how many lives could've been saved if only others spared a second of their lives to see the big picture and realize that something wasn't right? That something was off?

More than anyone could spare the time to count. How ironic.

If only humans paid attention to the people around them and not only themselves... If only humans took action more instead of writing it off as not their problem…

Then the world would be so much better…

But who was Izaya to complain? This benefited him after all. Not only could he feed more easily, but because of this aspect in humans, it's what makes them so interesting.

Humans want social interaction despite being solitary creatures. They claim that, want that, and even go looking for it, yet they still don't change their ways. Their attention is still on themselves, making it…

A rather empty claim.

But that was to be expected from humans. They were interesting indeed, but that didn't mean they weren't also predictable and pathetic. Like everything else in the world, humans are both charming and tedious. Some just end up leaning more towards one side.

With a smirk, Izaya continued to follow the unsuspecting girl. She wore a long cape, much like Izaya's, except hers was colored purple instead of black. He'll make this quick for her. Hopefully she wouldn't blame others for what's about to happen to her, because even if it's technically their faults too for turning a blind eye, it was also hers for being so reckless. And to top it off, that's how humans naturally are, so really, what blame was there to base these accusations off of anyways?

Nearing the death end of the alleyway, she abruptly stopped. Izaya stopped in his tracks too, getting into a striking stance. It looks like she noticed his presence, strange… How did she know that someone was following her? Izaya didn't make one single sound. Oh well, he wasn't going to question it. Some of his victims have sensed him before they were attacked. Either their senses were unbelievably good or paranoia heightened their senses to almost unnatural levels.

This didn't change their fate though. They couldn't escape even if they noticed. A pity, really.

"Who's there? I know you're following me. Show yourself now before I make you regret it," She said with ice cold venom dripping from each one of her words.

Ooh, a feisty one. How quaint.

Izaya said nothing as a smirk crossed his face. Getting ready to attack, he waited for the right moment…the moment when she'll turn her head around to look behind...

And there it was.

She snapped her head to the left to see who had the audacity to stalk her and that was when Izaya used the little energy he had left to flash-step right behind her with his super-speed. Moving faster than normal humans can ever wish to be, he quickly used one hand to cover her mouth, in order to keep her quiet and to keep her head turned at that angle so more of her neck was shown. His other hand was on her shoulder, pushing, giving Izaya more room to bite and feed from. Adrenaline blocked out the pain of his injured hand, his pulsating hunger getting the better of him.

His eyes glowed a bright ruby, his fangs elongating as he bit into the soft flesh of her neck before the girl could even process what was happening and began drinking the dark red liquid. The girl convulsed at little when his teeth sank into a vein, but she soon relaxed again, and made not a single movement of struggle, like she was waiting for something.

Did she give up and accepted her fate? Was she waiting for it to be done and over with? Usually they struggled at least a little bit before they gave up. However this woman didn't even scream and though the screaming would have been muffled by his hand, it was still an instinctual reaction in humans. This behavior was completely unusual for humans. Naturally they will always struggle at first, before either continuing or giving up all together. All types of humans, even the ones that wanted to die would struggle in the beginning.

This lack of natural human instinct to fight back confused and unnerved Izaya greatly. This was the first time he's ever had a victim who was so passive and docile.

But then he felt it.

The small smirk she was trying to hold back slowly started emerging and the raven could feel it against the palm of his hand that was covering her mouth. He couldn't see her face from this position, but he was positive it was there. Izaya's eyes widened against her neck he was sucking blood from. Why was she smirking? What was she planning? What could she even plan or do?

A thousand questions popped into his head, followed by a thousand answers for each one, but none of them seem to fit exactly. Something was still missing. Something was still not right. He even began playing with the idea that she might not even be huma—…

Before Izaya could ponder anymore as to why this woman was smirking sinisterly, it started to burn.

His throat started to burn like it was lit on fire. It felt as if a flame erupted in his esophagus and was slowing spreading upwards towards his mouth.

His body was rejecting the blood.

This confirmed his suspicions of the last question that was on his mind.

Pulling away hastily and backing up a good distance from the girl, Izaya began to cough harshly into his arm. Blood was spilling from his mouth in copious amounts, splashing onto the floor and staining his sleeve and cloak. The strenuous coughs only worsened the searing pain in his throat.

Izaya glowered with eyes that could kill at the woman in front of him as a scowl formed on his lips, the pain still not seceding. The caped offender did not move from her spot, her back still facing Izaya, though he could still feel the smirk of accomplishment on her face.

She started to leisurely move her hand up to her neck with swift elegant movements. Gently, she cupped her open palm over the two puncture mark wounds and proceeded to massage her neck, rubbing it as if it was sore from a hard day's work.

When she lifted her hand again not five seconds later, the small wounds were gone, healed completely with not even a scar in its place. It looked as new as it did before Izaya broke through the skin.

"It's a surprise running into you at this time of day, or during the day at all. You come out more during the night," she said coldly, trying to pretend to show interest, but the apathetic tone of her voice made it all too obvious that she didn't give a shit.

Izaya continued to cough haphazardly, having to lean against the alley wall for support because his knees began to shake and buckle beneath him. The ground by now was covered in an array of dark red splotches, a sight he would rather not see.

"You must be wondering why I didn't struggle. Don't be mistaken, usually I would have fought back against any other attacker, but with your species, it would be easier if I just let you continue drinking because…your body can't accept my blood, can it?" She mocked.

The debilitated vampire tried to talk when he felt like he wasn't going to hack out his lungs anymore, but his throat was sore and blistered. The sound that he made was a hoarse, almost pitiful, groan. He breathed in and out heavily, trying to calm the throbbing pain his body was enduring right now.

He stood up shakily. There was no way he was going to show any more weakness to this vile woman.

Finally, said woman turned around, an impassive expression on her face. Her dark brown eyes bore into Izaya's glowing red ones. She folded her arms under her chest, standing tall. Izaya could see a long dark red skirt that covered her feet, and a sweater with two different shades of green.

It was definitely her.

"Orihara Izaya-san, right? You must be really desperate if you're hunting during the daytime. Was your head so clouded with hunger that you didn't even recognize me? We never met in person, but an informant like you surely would have known," she said snidely.

The raven tried to say something. It was true that he was low on energy. She was right about that. Izaya had to think fast, crossing paths with her was not something he was anticipating today…or ever. She was an awful woman according to the information he gathered on her, much like a hag. Actually exactly like a hag, because she was one.

He finally forced his voice to work, it was still flaring in an abundance of agony, and came out ragged and hoarse, "Y…Yagiri Namie-san…w…what a surprise… to meet you t-today of all days…"

"You're still hurt, meaning you're not healing and therefore you really are incapacitated right now. So my deduction that you were desperate and hunger-crazed was indeed correct. Let's cut the pleasantries and get right down to business, shall we?" She said and didn't even wait for Izaya to attempt to answer before talking again, "I can supply you with enough sustenance right now to heal yourself if you help me with something."

Quirking one eyebrow, he tried to make his voice work again. He wanted to ask what she needed help with, but getting dizzy from the lack of energy and pain, he decided that he could really use what she had to offer and nodded his head weakly.

"Here. Drink this. These aren't poisoned, don't worry," she instructed as she pulled two bottles containing crimson liquid out from the inside of her cloak. 'These' she said…meaning she did have ones that are poisoned. Great fucking fact.

Trusting her this one time, he quickly gulped down the two bottles, before handing them back to her. They contained human blood. It tasted bitter, just like blood has always tasted to Izaya, though the ones in the bottle also tasted kind of stale.

With his energy replenished, his lacerated throat began to heal itself along with his injured wrist. Gradually, he started to feel better. Afterwards, when he was healed completely, he noticed that he was still hungry, however it should last him till nighttime now that he didn't have any injuries to worry about.

He glared at the stoic woman in front of him, a slightly aggravated smirk spreading on his bloody stained face, "So we finally meet, Yagiri Namie-san~! I guess what just happened proves my suspicions, doesn't it? That you're not actually human, are you?"

She scowled, "What suspicions? Don't try to fool me. You knew already for a long time. Tch! It's informants like you that cause unnecessary hassle for me."

"Uwah~! You wound me, Namie-chan!" Izaya laughed dramatically, clutching at the clothing over where his non-beating heart would be, "But it's true though, I did have hunches and some evidence, however, that was not enough to convince me of your true nature… You cover your tracks well…"

Namie averted her eyes and stayed silent, waiting for Izaya to finish.

"There's not much information on your kind, and little to no witness accounts. The ones I was able to find were unreliable. They were barely even recalling the events. However, I do know that foreigners have been disappearing in your shop and the ones that do come out have no recollection of what happened."

Izaya crossed his arms and his smirk widened, "Your shop, Yagiri Pharmacy, sells the best medicine, correct? Cures any ailment at a hefty price… To be honest, I had a lot of hunches, but there was one question that held me back from figuring the answer out. That question was, how? How were you able to conceal your soul? I would've been able to sense if you were a supernatural being, but even now, your soul seems very human to me."

"Orihara-san, I would prefer if you would refrain from interrogating me, considering you have much more information on me than I do on you. An informant like you has no need for any more proof on this matter," she stated coldly and bluntly. Izaya was starting to irritate her greatly with the childish, yet condescending, tone in his voice and the mocking smirk, dancing across his mouth. Even his eyes were piercing with immature glee. What angered her most was how he referred to her in such a casual way.

"On the contrary, Namie-chan, I can never have too much information on a matter. Knowledge is like a never-ending fountain after all. Just because I know what you are, doesn't mean it quenches my thirst for more. What's even more puzzling to this situation was how you knew that my body would reject your blood. How did you know that it could only accept human blood?"

A vein popped onto her temple at the use of that infuriating nickname again, "Orihara-san! Stop addressing me so casually. We just met," she commanded, "Moreover, just because you're an informant, doesn't mean other people don't have their own ways of retrieving information. If you don't reveal yours, then why should I reveal mine? Also, your tone is far too condescending and rude. I expect you to respect me as I am older than you with a profession of high superiority as a scientist and doctor—!"

Izaya narrowed his eyes as his amused smirk changed into a frown full of disdain. The personal information she knew was something a stranger like her should never have been able to obtain. It was like she was outshining him, and Izaya really didn't like being outshined. Information was his forte, not hers. He was supposed to know other people's information, not the other way around. Leaning dangerously close to her face, he whispered hostilely into her ear, interrupting what she was saying, "Why? I think that nickname sounds cute on you, and I don't see why I need to stop using it when you keep calling me an informant. If you must know, even though I crave information, I am not an informant, and I abhor being referred to as one."

He leaned back up and glared at her in contempt, glowing scarlet meeting shocked coffee-brown. He hissed out what he was going to say next.

"Now let's get this straight permanently. I'm not an informant, I am a vampire. And you're not a scientist or doctor, you're a witch. Considering someone like you got the upper-hand on me, even if I was hasty enough to attack before checking, I'm still considerably annoyed about it. Forcing me to help you in return for nutrients was a nice touch to it, I must admit. It's probably something I would do. And that's why I'll like to get this going along so this doesn't hang over my head any longer than necessary. I do hate owing favors to others after all. You prolonging this by changing and avoiding the subject aren't helping much either, so I would like you to…"

His voice became laced with malice and venom as he finished his sentence.

"Answer the questions now, Na-mi-e..."

Another chapter done, another part of Author-san's already low dignity shrivels up and dies. I feel like I completely failed at Namie... and everyone else, but mostly Namie...and Shingen maybe too... Why am I so bad at characterization, you ask? Because Author-san is most likely high off some form of life (and narcotics, jk jk) everytime I attempt to write... I apologize if there were any spelling or grammar mistakes that I overlooked, or if this sucks, or if I'm a shitty author, or if this is unoriginal, or if this is cliche, or if this is boring, or if this was out of character, etc. On to the equally as shitty postscript...

Chaos: What is this? There is no postscript today? *Gasps* Maybe I wasn't high enough to think up one and write it.

Izaya: Hah, you wish. But no.

Chaos: God fucking dammit...

Izaya: Yeah, yeah, whatever. On to more important issues, why am I constantly getting hurt? Does Author-san want to fight me, perhaps?

Chaos: Huh? What?! NO! I don't want to fight you! I don't want to die! I don't know why you keep getting hurt. I guess it's because I'm...kind of an Izaya sadist...

Izaya: A what...

Chaos: I just like to see you hurt for some reason...just you really... I'm a sadist when it comes to Hurt!Izaya because...yeah, I'm a terrible person...

Chaos: Hello? Are you still there? Shit...!

Chaos: You left didn't you? Fuck! Yeah...a meteor is definetly going to come towards my house now... And before you know it BAM! I accidentally destroyed the world and have to do a bunch of shit and die multiple times to save not only the world, but the universe too from a demon...!

Chaos: What the fuck am I talking about? I don't know... I'm high off feels and life and feels and feels. Did I mention feels? Yes, yes I did...

Shinra: I think Author-san needs to have some rest now... She's become delirious... Anyways, reviews are greatly appreciated and helpful to Author-san right now.

Celty: Yes, please review and hopefully Shinra can fix up Author-san...! She seems to be thinking she's in some game about green houses and trolls...
