Chapter 10: The Sweetest Beginning

Miles stood still, eyeing the school before him.

He had never expected for his life to be like this. Not only had he found a loving boyfriend, but his family had accepted him. Even though his father hated his relationship, he had begrudgingly accepted that he couldn't stop it. Miles' friends had also came around to his relationship. Somehow, everything had worked out.

Miles was free to love Zig.

He walked into the school, not caring for anyone around him. The old Miles had been awkward and insecure. Now, he didn't care for others' opinions. He had learned to love himself in the process of loving Zig. It was sappy and kind of ridiculous, but so very true.

He saw his boyfriend standing by his locker. Zig smiled, gesturing for him to come over.

Zig didn't know what had happened with his father. As quickly as the problem had arisen, Miles' mom had come to the rescue.

"Zig..." Miles stopped before Zig, pausing before giving his boyfriend a quick kiss.

Zig was shocked to say the least. Miles had been reserved about being this open, especially since he knew there were others in the hall. He just simply didn't care what those others thought: all that mattered was their relationship...and Zig's very delectable lips.

"Mmm...I take it things turned out well," Zig mumbled through the kiss.

"Yes, silly." Miles broke apart the kiss. "My mom came through."

"I was worried."

"Thanks...I didn't know what I could do without you," Miles spoke, not caring how cheesy he sounded.

"Me too." Zig gave him a small, cute smile.

"My mom wants to meet you."

Zig seemed surprised. "Really? Is your dad going to be okay with that?"

"She said he doesn't have a choice," Miles spoke.

Zig's smile widened, practically beaming. "I'm...just happy that I have you again."

"You're too sweet, Zig." Miles blushed.

Once again, Miles brushed his lips against Zig's. The kiss was soft and warm; it was simply beautiful. Miles knew he could never get tired of this.

The bell rang and two broke away. Without asking, Miles' hand slid into Zig's. They walked to class holding hands, not caring for the looks they received. They wouldn't waste time caring for those ignorant people. They had each other and that was enough.

"I think everyone saw your PDA," Maya said. She sat in the lunchroom with Miles, Zig, and Winston.

"I don't think they've seen enough." Zig planted a quick kiss on Miles' cheek, enjoying how easy it was to make his boyfriend blush. Miles was just too cute for his own good.

"Are you fine with everyone knowing?" Winston asked. He wasn't angry, but just curious. He was slightly worried for what his friend would have to deal with.

"I don't mind." Zig said, reaching to hold Miles' hand.

Maya laughed, "You two are pretty ridiculous...and cute."

"Maybe we should tone it down..." Miles turned to Zig.

Zig pouted. "Like you actually want that..."

"Nope." Miles quickly said, clenching Zig's hand tighter.

"But seriously, everyone knows about you two." Maya looked between them.

"We could have just been inspecting each other's mouths. You know...practicing to become a dentist." Zig joked.

"I doubt becoming a dentist involves shoving a tongue down Miles' throat." Maya teased right back.

Miles smiled, playing along. "Yes, it also needs hickeys. Lots and lots of them."

"You're insane." Winston spoke.

"You and Frankie seem to be doing a lot of dental work on each other too..." Miles winked.

"..." Winston looked dumbstruck at them.

Winston was just too easy to tease, especially if it involved Frankie. Miles had been surprised when the two had started dating, but they weirdly worked. Miles also loved how Frankie bossed Winston around. They were cute together.

"You guys are lucky." Maya said. "I don't have anyone to do dental work on me."

"Why, do you need recommendations for a good dentist?" Miles looked to her.

Maya smiled, "Very funny, Miles."

"You'll find someone." Zig tried being reassuring. He wondered if he could set her up on a blind date. It would be hilarious to set her up with a total disaster.

"Like who?"

"Obviously Tristan." Winston teased.

"He's as straight as Miles making out Zig this morning."

"So super duper straight." Miles smirked.

Zig tried being serious, "Maybe Damon?"

Damon could be nice...but he was just as likely to rob Maya blind. It could be either an amazing date or burglary. Damon was just that crazy.

"Maybe someone a little less...crazy."

"Tiny." Winston suggested.

"Why are we telling Maya to date a bunch of bad boys?" Miles asked. They might as well give Maya a list of who had the worst criminal records in the school. The idea made him grin.

"He's not bad...I guess." Maya looked a little uneasy. She might have become kind of friends with Tiny, but she really knew nothing about him.

"Hunter." Zig listed off another name.

She looked at him, confused. "Who?"

"My brother." Miles continued for Zig. "I really don't know how that would work out."

"Moving on from one Hollingsworth to another...soon Frankie will be next." Maya laughed, followed by Zig and Miles. Winston did not look amused.

Winston huffed, "You can't take her..."

"You two should fight for Frankie's love..." Zig's eyes widened as he spoke.

Miles looked at his boyfriend, joking along, "Yeah...like a sword fight. Or a light saber battle. It's pretty serious."

"I would so win...I mean I don't want to date Frankie...or any girl," The blonde puffed.

"So how about Zoë?" Winston eyed her evilly. He knew it would set her off.

"She's...just evil." Maya glared at him. She looked ready to lunge at Winston.

Zig drawled, loving how easy it was to tease Maya about her enemy, "So much hate...masking so much love."

"I hate you too."

"Hmmm..." Miles wondered just who was left in the school. "Drew."

"Is there anyone who hasn't dated Drew...not that I have...or want too." Once again, Maya was flustered.

"Or maybe Dallas is more your type?" Zig said.

"I haven't even spoken with him."

Winston took another chance to tease Maya. "You don't have to do a lot of speaking when you're with someone..."

"Just stop...I doubt there's even anyone left in the school to name off." Maya was usually so cool and it made it all the more fun to see her stutter.

"Clare," Winston suggested.

"I'm not into girls..." Her face only got redder.

"Except for Zoë...maybe you'll settle instead for her friend Keisha," Winston spoke, continuing to toy with her.

"Again, I've never spoke with her or want to date a girl. I'm not a lesbian."

"Maybe you just haven't found the right girl...the right Zoë Rivas," Miles beamed.

"I don't even want to know how your suggestions can get any worse."

"Who is even left?" Zig stopped laughing, genuinely curious.

"Grace!" Miles said, the idea should have been obvious.

"She'll beat us up if she even hears we were joking about her..." Maya spoke, rolling her eyes.

Winston raised an eyebrow. "But that's not a no."

"Definitely not a no," Miles laughed as Maya's face only got more red.

"Look...little Maya Matlin is blushing." Zig pursed his lips.

She growled, "I am not!"

Miles taunted, "Maya definitely wants to start hacking away at Grace's computer."

If she hadn't already finished eating, Maya would have thrown her tray at them. Luckily, there was nothing around to pummel them with. Maya could only fume and they all loved it.

The scene made Miles smile. Everything had turned out alright between his friends. It didn't matter what the other students in the school thought. As long as his friends accepted him and Zig, he was happy.

Miles turned to Zig, brushing his fingers against his boyfriend's. He had never been more content. This was the first day he had felt free to be open with their relationship. At long last, they could stop trying to hide.

School had just ended and of course, Miles was pressed against Zig's locker. Luckily, no one was around. It didn't matter, but Miles didn't want anyone to stop his boyfriend.

Zig gave his neck a slow trail of chaste nicks, easing his way up onto Miles' mouth. He pressed their lips together, enjoying easing into the embrace. Miles was like putty, melting into Zig's touch. Miles felt warm, fuzzy, and sappy. He wouldn't have it any other way.

"Zig, you don't know what you do to me."

"I bet I do." His boyfriend planted a quick kiss on Miles' head, enjoying how bashful the thinner teen looked.

"I can't imagine what would happen if my dad would have had his way."

"Don't imagine it babe." Zig didn't kiss him, but just held him calmly. In Zig's arms, he felt safe. He simply fit together with Zig; their bodies embracing in just the perfect way.

Miles loved just how different the two of them were. Miles was rich, but had been awkward and socially withdrawn. On the other hand, Zig was poor and struggled with a gang, but somehow still rose above it all. Zig just knew how to bring Miles out of his shell. They really complemented each other.

"I just want you to know...thanks. Thanks for everything." Miles spoke, knowing that he was about to spill his guts again to his boyfriend. He really did love him.

Zig smiled, already knowing what his boyfriend was trying to say. "I love you, Miles." The words came out easily.

"I love you too, Zig." Miles blushed an even deeper red.

Their lips met again. They would never have a last kiss: their relationship, despite all of its obstacles, would never end. Miles looked forward to a life with Zig, however that would turn out.

As long as he had Zig, he was happy. In Zig's soft kisses, Miles felt powerful and completely free. Zig had changed him into a better, stronger person. Miles had never been more proud of himself and their relationship.

He continued kissing Zig, shamelessly loving every second of it.

AN: I might write bonus, fluffy chapters in the future, but for now this is the end. I have had a lot of fun writing this story and receiving your feedback :) If I wrote extra chapters, what would you want to see in them?

Anyways, make sure to check out my other story, "Angel Guts" (Hunter/Zig).
