Chapter One: Lost Boys

"Hook." Emma whispered, crawling into his tent while the others slept. The pirate didn't move at her hushed tone, causing her to settle herself on her side beside him in the small, dark space.

"Hook." she whispered louder this time, the man stirring slightly. He grumbled a few incoherent words before turning over on his side, his face now inches from hers.

"Wake up." she urged, her words still soft as she shook his shoulders lightly. His eyes opened slowly, blinking a few times to make sure he wasn't dreaming.

"Swan?" he grumbled, cupping her hip with his hand wordlessly before she watched his eyes flutter shut again.

"Don't fall back asleep. I just need to talk to you. Just a minute I promise no more." she pleaded, dragging herself closer to him. He moved his hand from her hip to snake around her waist as she scooted closer, the smell of fresh apples hitting all of his senses.

"What is it, love? If you had a nightmare, I know just how to get your mind off it." he smirked, kissing her lips just barely, struggling to keep his eyes opened. He ran his hand down her lower back, stopping right above her ass. She rolled her eyes in response but made no move to get away.

Emma brought her hand up to his face, her thumb running over his rough cheek and under his eye, hoping he would just look at her for a short while.

"How can you sleep with all that crying from the forest?" she whispered, flinching in surprise when his eyes shot opened. He blinked the sleep away before grabbing her hand in his own, not moving it from his skin.

"You hear the Lost Boys cries? Only orphans hear them. They cry every night." he explained. "You learn to tune them out."

"That means you had no family as a child either." she said, not so much a question as a statement.

"Aye. That is right. I told you before, lass. We aren't so different the pair of us." he said, holding her against the side of his body loosely. "Would you feel better staying here?" he offered.

"If I say yes, will you hold it against me." she asked, her eyes growing heavy until they eventually slipped shut.

"Yes." he said simply, his own eyes closing as well.

"Gnight, Hook." she whispered, putting her hand on his chest, his arm staying around her waist through the night.
