Percy looked around in slight confusion, where was he? He stood in an empty field, nowhere recognizable, but it was nice enough. The field was covered in snow and snowflakes were gently falling to earth, causing him to smile fondly at the weather. The flakes encased pine trees and barren bushes in a white blanket, it was a comforting environment. Every time he saw snow he thought of Khione.
"Percy."
He turned to see a large man standing before him. The man was muscular and boasted a large trident. He had sun kissed skin and jet black hair. He looked at Percy with sad, green eyes and Percy took a startled step backwards. His eyes were wide open as he stared at the god, he wore a Hawaiian shirt and swim trunks, with blue flip-flops to match. Percy may have been having memory problems but he knew who this was.
"Poseidon." Khione had told him all about the god. Poseidon was his father and had abandoned him as a child, Percy wanted nothing to do with him. But the god looked different than how Percy would have imagined him. Poseidon looked defeated, filled with remorse and anguish. His shoulders were slumped and his face was haggard, indicating that he was greatly stressed and restless. About what?
"Son-"
"I'm not your son." Percy retorted, shaking his head,"Khione told me that you left me, so why are you back?" The god stared at him miserably, but Percy noticed the way his jaw clenched in frustration.
"She's a liar."
"Am I?" The two turned to see the goddess smirking at Poseidon. She casually strolled forward until she stood next to Percy, gently slipping her hand in his. At the sight of this Poseidon bristled. He glared at their interlaced fingers before noticing his son's glazed over eyes. Percy practically melted at her touch, looking more jovial at her appearance.
"What have you done to my son!" The god snarled, pointing his trident Khione. His haggard look was replaced with ire, and he looked absolutely menacing. He resembled a grizzly bear as he stood tall, massive shoulders hunching slightly as he prepared for a fight with the goddess.
Percy moved faster than the god could comprehend. The boy was standing in front of Khione protectively, icicles swarmed him as he let out a snarl. The weather changed drastically around them, grey clouds pumped out large chunks of hail and Percy's eyes were glowing. Khione smiled triumphantly as Poseidon fell flat on his back, struck down unexpectedly by large amounts of snow that Percy had launched at him. He quickly rolled to his feet just in time to block Percy's incoming blade with his trident.
Poseidon looked at his son in shock,"Percy-"
"Don't touch her!" He roared, trembling in rage as their weapons locked. Percy looked like a man possessed, his eyes were filled with something primal, and he looked like a crazed animal protecting its territory. His nostrils were flared in rage and he bared his teeth savagely at his father, daring the god to retaliate.
Khione chuckled at this before calling out to him, "Percy, dear, there's no need for that." The boy hesitated, snarling once again at Poseidon before standing down. He lowered his weapon and walked back to the goddess's side obediently.
She smiled gently at him, reaching her hand up and softly cupping his cheek she said,"Can't have you getting hurt."
"I was protecting you…I won't get hurt." He promised, losing his rage the moment she touched him. Poseidon watched in disbelief as Percy placed a kiss on her forehead and turned to glare at him. While he no longer was in that strange…trance he was in earlier, there was something still off about him.
"You always seem to find a way." She sighed, sliding her hand down to grab his own.
The sea god blinked in surprise at the fondness in her tone. Her facial features softened and her demeanor changed when she addressed his son, but there was something else there too. Khione was notorious for her hatred of physical contact and her cruel personality, but that didn't seem to be the case when it came to Percy.
She was almost always touching him, whether it be his arm, cheek, or holding his hand. But it wasn't just affection that caused her to always stay so close to him, it was possessiveness. Poseidon had seen this many times before with his own wife but had thought little of it...until now. Khione wanted to show that she claimed Percy, and that he would not be leaving her side anytime soon.
"Khione…please tell me you didn't…" He trailed off at her shrug, knowing the answer already.
"Your son is mine now, Poseidon, and you won't get him back. Don't act so surprised when it's your fault his mind is blank." She laughed cruelly,"Honestly, even I was stunned by how brutally you treated him." She paused, before giving him her infuriating smirk once again,"I suppose I should thank you, without you I would never have gotten Percy."
The sea god looked startled by this and he shook his head,"No…no that's not...Khione he's not a god. This will hurt him." He breathed, looking at his child hopelessly as the boy continued to glare vacantly at him.
"I have everything under control." She sneered, giving him a wicked smirk as she gestured towards Percy,"Have you told Sally, does she know what you've done to him?" Silence. "I didn't think so." The goddess then turned to Percy who was uncharacteristically quiet,"As much as I enjoy your obedience, I have grown rather fond of your personality." She hummed,"Relax." Like magic the boy's trance was broken, he blinked in surprise before glancing curiously between Poseidon and Khione.
"What…Poseidon you never answered me. What do you want?" Percy acted as though he had never attacked his father, and Poseidon felt panic surge within him.
"Percy, my boy, please try to remember." He begged, throwing his trident down before slowly approaching his son. Percy glanced at Khione warily, unsure of what to do. But she was watching him, seeing how he'd respond to his father's pleas.
Percy felt strange...he didn't know why. His mind was somewhat foggy and he felt a sharp jolt stab his stomach when Khione released his hand. He turned to her anxiously, not liking the abrupt separation, and not understanding why he felt the constant desire to be around her. He felt like his body was moving on its own accord as he reached out to her, only to be disappointed when she shook her head and gestured back towards the sea god.
His hand dropped to his side obediently. He shot her a look of uncertainty as he hesitantly stepped towards Poseidon. He kept his gaze locked on her, silently begging her to let him come back to her side. Instead she shook her head again, giving him a small, reassuring smile.
Why was he feeling this way? He faced his father once again, trying to ignore the pang of loss he felt when Khione distanced herself from him. This wasn't normal. He loved Khione but he had never been this emotional when it came to her, he didn't like it, not one bit- "relax." The doubt fled his mind as he involuntarily slumped in relief, his eyes drooped slightly as the voice calmed him.
He was suddenly embraced in a warm hug. Poseidon was holding him tightly to his chest, cradling him as though he never wanted to let go. Percy stiffened at the abrupt contact.A white flash blurred his visions and scattered images devoured his mind.
A loud smack. A strong grip. A blue and red neck.
Screaming. Who was screaming?
He tasted salt. Salt. So much salt! And blood! So much blood!
Choking. Gasping. Clawing. Fighting. Bleeding. Pleading.
Pleading. So much pleading! And salt! So much salt! But more blood still!
Screaming. Who kept screaming?
Tears. So that's where the salt came from! Tears!
Raw throat. Puffy cheeks. Red eyes. Strong grip.
Malevolent. What a strange word.
Malevolent. What a strange word used to describe a father.
Rage. Confusion. Fear.
Screaming. Screaming. Screaming.
Green eyes. Strong grip. Trident. Betrayal.
Shut up! Who keeps screaming? It's loud and frightening!
Sobs. Angry shouts. Screaming.
Oh.
Dad please!
I'm screaming.
A sudden screech escaped him as he ripped himself away from his father. Percy jumped quickly back to Khione's side, eyes filled with tears and head throbbing. She gently took his hand, causing the skittish boy to relax. He was safe now. The goddess looked him over, silently checking to make sure he was alright. A cold thumb traced his knuckles, he turned from his father to look at her, and met her small smile with a large one of his own.
But his thoughts ran rampant. What had he just seen? Only snippets of a memory he never wanted to fully remember. He looked at Poseidon angrily, what had the god done to him Why did his head hurt? His hand reached up to gently cup his throat, swallowing thickly at the discomfort he had previously been in. If this was all his memories had to offer than what was the point? Why would he go back to a father who caused him so much agony?
When she was certain Percy was feeling better she turned to the sea god,"You wanted him to remember, and he did. Congratulations, Poseidon, you're an even bigger failure than I took you for." She hissed, surprisingly feeling angered about Percy's panic. A strong urge to protect Percy overwhelmed her as she squeezed his hand gently.
His eyes once again glazed over, now absent to the world and oblivious to their conversation,"Let my son go!" Poseidon roared, blinking back tears of guilt and frustration as he stared at his son's empty eyes. This was his fault.
Khione hummed, mockingly tapping her chin as though considering his demand,"Hmm...no." She laughed before slipping her arm around Percy's waist,"Do you want to know the best part of all this?" It was beautiful, this entire situation was absolutely beautiful. Percy was hers, completely loyal to her, and safe from his wretched father. She would lie, cheat, steal, and kill to keep him away from that brute of a sea god.
Poseidon glowered at her silently so she continued,"After I kidnapped my dearest Percy, we had him sitting in a chair in an unlocked room. He tried fighting his way out earlier but he was quite battered, as you can well imagine, I'm sure." She spat before taking a breath to calm herself,"He was in so much pain after you were done with him, so we didn't even bother tying him up. He knew his memories would be taken, and do you know what he said?"
A pause for dramatic effect,"Nothing!" She sneered,"Imagine my surprise when he put up no resistance to have his mind wiped. He had so much fight up until then. He just sat there and looked at me, he let me take his memories! I thought I'd have to rip them from him, but no, you took the fight right out of him!" She had meant to tell this story so as to gloat, but instead she was infuriated.
"I should kill you for everything you did to him." She hissed venomously, temporarily blinded by her ire,"I should rip your throat out! I should-" Realizing she was losing her temper she quickly calmed herself, breathing deeply as she fought down her fury,"It's not my place. Gaea will end you soon enough."
Just remembering Percy's look of hopelessness was enough to evoke her rage. Tear stained cheeks, bruised throat, busted lips, a blood stained chin, an eye swollen shut, hunched shoulders, and that empty stare he gave her. Void of all emotion. What crushed a man like that? Back then she hadn't thought twice of his appearance, only mildly annoyed by his lack of resistance. But now, oh now, she couldn't even think of his defeated state without heat rising to her chest. So much anger.
Khione looked at the surprised god's face with some satisfaction. The worry lines on his forehead were so prominent. His slouched shoulders and haggard face was enough to fill her with joy. Good. He should be eaten alive with guilt for what he did to his son. She blinked for a second, surprised by the fact that she cared more for Percy than her petty boasting.
Percy jolted back to reality, stunned to see his father crying. Silent tears rolled down his cheeks but he was no longer looking at Percy. His eyes were fixated on his hands, bitterness twisted his lips into a scowl, and he looked absolutely heartbroken. Percy felt nothing as he looked at him.
Khione nodded curtly at him,"Let us go." Her tempestuous tone was not lost on him.
"Are you alright?" He asked gently. She opened her mouth to speak before quickly closing it. Brown eyes looked at him thoughtfully and her stiff posture relaxed ever so slightly.
"I...I'm better." She gave him a shaky smile before squeezing his hand,"I'm getting better." She murmured, blinking rapidly before tugging his hand impatiently,"We must go." Percy allowed her to drag him away, not once turning to look at the sea god.
-Line Break-
Zethes watched Percy closely, the boy was paying him no mind, instead he watched his sister from afar. The three sat in the palace kitchen, waiting for Cal to finish his food before they went on their mission. Khione was speaking with her father in a quiet tone as he gave her instructions, and Percy was just awkwardly watching her. His eyes were glazed over as he stared at her, a look of longing crossed his face as he drummed his fingers against the table impatiently.
"You okay there, Perce?" Zethes murmured quietly, surprised that the boy didn't even bother glancing in his direction as he nodded absently. What was wrong with him? Percy sat on the edge of his seat, his leg shook and his fingers continued to rapidly smack the table. He was anxious, not of the mission...but then what was he so jittery about? It was uncharacteristic of Percy to be nervous about missions, he was easily excitable but never had Zethes seen the boy so restless.
He followed where Percy's stare was directed and frowned, Khione? Percy was watching her like a cat would a laser pointer, his eyes were glued to her and his brow was furrowed in concentration. Zethes knew Percy was in love with his sister, but his infatuation was abrupt and concerning. Sure, Percy would always sneak a few glances here and there when he thought Khione wasn't looking, but now he couldn't seem to look at anything but her.
The man glanced at his sister who was making her way back to them. Percy perked at her arrival, excitedly scooting forward to greet her. The goddess smiled faintly at him, patting his head affectionately as she sat next to the boy. At her touch Percy instantly relaxed. His shoulders slumped in relief and his eyes brightened with elation, happy to be in Khione's proximity once again.
Zethes narrowed his eyes,"I'll bite, what did you do to him?" Percy didn't even seem to hear him as he leaned into the goddess's hand. The son of Poseidon reached out and interlaced their fingers, flashing Khione a wide grin, still caught in some trance like state.
The goddess feigned innocence,"Why, I have no idea what you're talking about." She hummed, turning her attention back to Percy,"Relax," She murmured,"you're too tense. I need you to be sharp today." It was like she flipped a switch. Percy's eyes opened wide and he blinked rapidly, looking around in slight confusion before finally looking at Zethes.
"Oh, hey Zethes, when did you get here?"
-Line Break-
Where was she?
Percy paced around the room, grumbling angrily to himself as he awaited for Khione's return. She had been gone for two hours and he needed her here with him!
"Why?"
He couldn't answer that question, and this made him pause as he tried to conjure up a logical reason as to why he was so desperate for her to be with him.
"I just like being around her." He said aloud, cringing slightly at the familiar pang that shot through his chest, it always happened when she was gone.
"Open your eyes, something's going on-"
"You're delusional!" He spat, pacing again as he clenched and unclenched his fists in anger,"I love her, why wouldn't I want to be around her all the time?"
"She used to avoid you for far longer than two hours. Why are you suddenly bothered by it?"
"We've gotten closer." He was standing in front of the vanity mirror now, scowling at his reflection as he bickered hopelessly with himself,"You're just trying to screw with me, like all the gods and demigods! You want me to doubt myself." He pointed accusingly at his reflection, seething with rage, not realizing he was drowning in insanity.
"I'm you, Percy, I'm not trying to make you doubt yourself. All I'm saying is something is incredibly wrong here."
Percy laughed in disbelief before looking back at the liar. Look at him, he thought viciously, mocking me.
Blue eyes glared at the mirror,"I get it now, you're jealous! You want her all to yourself." He deduced, slamming his hands down on the dresser before leaning forward menacingly,"Well she's mine, do you hear me? Mine!"
The man in the mirror gave him a pitying look,"Percy, she's hurting you, why can't you see that?" Lies! Lies! Lies! Percy squeezed his eyes shut and shook his head angrily, he would not be tricked by this man, Khione took care of him, she loved him.
"You're wrong." Percy declared,"Khione loves me! She told me she did!" He snarled, gritting his teeth and digging his nails into the palm of his hand. Percy didn't register the pain he was unknowingly inflicting upon himself, or the blood that seeped down the palms of his hands and stained the floor, all he could focus on was the liar before him.
The liar's eyes blurred with tears as he watched Percy self destruct,"This isn't you, Percy look what she's doing to us! She doesn't even care about us, because if she did, she wouldn't have left us by ourselves for this long," His voice cracked and he hastily wiped some of his tears away,"she knows how much we need her and what'll happen if she leaves us alone for too long."
Percy didn't realize he was crying, all he could do was sneer at the weeping man before him,"Stop talking about her like you know her! Stop acting like she would ever care about you! She loves me, she'll be back soon enough and you'll see!" Percy roared, jealousy burned in his chest as the liar continued to speak of Khione. Why was he pretending? Did he like making him mad? Did he like making him jealous?
"Don't you feel that?" The liar breathed, grasping his own chest tightly,"Don't you feel how hollow you are without her?" Percy's eyes widened, and clutched his chest, gasping in pain at the jolt that struck his heart. Tears continued to fall as he turned his attention away from the man, looking around anxiously for his love to appear. Where was she?
Anxiety enveloped him as he began to hyperventilate. She left him. She wasn't coming back. Why else would she be gone for so long? His irrational thinking only amplified his panic attack. His head pounded against his skull and it felt as though his lungs were working overtime to compensate for his suddenly breathlessness. His vision blurred and he began to tremble, unable to calm himself down as a flash of heat scalded his body. He felt as though he were on fire.
"W-What did you do to me!" He wheezed, leaning heavily against the vanity so he wouldn't collapse to the floor.
The liar laughed scathingly, still clutching his chest as though he were having a heart attack,"She doesn't love us, and I hope she never comes back!" Percy's world went black.
He didn't know what happened or why he fell unconscious. Percy could make out distant sounds of shattering every once and awhile, but that was about it. The boy crossed his arms over his chest as he awaited for himself to regain consciousness, until then he was trapped in his own mind and it was pitch black.
Percy could think much more clearly when he was like this, trapped inside his own mind with no outside forces to influence him. He began to walk aimlessly, unsure of how to wake up or where he was even going, but he found that he didn't really care. He liked the darkness, the silence, and the peace that came with being unconscious. His strange craving to be around Khione was gone, for how long who knew, but for the moment it was gone.
"Khione definitely did something to me." He grumbled, thinking back to his psychotic episode prior to blacking out. He had been yelling at his reflection...like some insane person. At the time, he really thought he was talking to some stranger, some liar, and that's what terrified him.
He hadn't recognized himself...was that what Khione was doing? Making it so he couldn't recognize himself? Making it so he lost all free will? Percy didn't know what Khione did to his head but he was livid. Had she intended to hurt him? Did it even matter what her intentions were? He had been yelling at himself until he suffered a panic attack, and what caused it was Khione's absence. What had she done to him? What if this happened again?
Tears pricked his eyes as he berated himself, of course she didn't love him, because if she did she wouldn't manipulate him. He glared down at his hands, frustrated by the abrupt pain that erupted in his chest, just how much did he love this woman? Was he still under her influence, or did he genuinely love her? He didn't know, but his mind was plagued by her betrayal.
Her words echoed in his head,"I love you." A snarl escaped him as he balled his hands into fists; allowing silent tears to stream down his cheeks as disgust washed over him. Why hadn't he seen how hollow her words were? How could he be so blinded by his stupid emotions? How could he ever love someone as vindictive as her? But he did love her. Whatever she had done to him had influenced his feelings towards her, but he now had clarity, and he knew loved her. No spell or whatever was cast on him had made him fall for her, and that only made everything infinitely worse.
Here he was with open eyes and a sound mind, but he still loved her. He was still angry and disgusted with her, but that didn't diminish the adoration he felt for her. He couldn't control how he felt, but he wished he could.
"Percy." He frowned at the foreign voice that echoed in his head, looking around in confusion before realizing it was Khione.
"Wake up." A light appeared before him but the boy hesitated, fearing the outcome of awakening from his anxiety induced slumber. What if that strange spell was placed upon him again? It was something he obviously couldn't fight, and it made him feel more clingy and obedient towards Khione. It was terrifying that he lacked control of his actions, all because Khione enjoyed her ascendancy over him.
"Wake up, please." The desperation in her voice made him furrow his brow. He knew that she did care for him, despite her manipulative nature, she had grown fond of him. He could tell by her change in mannerisms. She cut down on her scathing comments, she could still be rather harsh, but she spoke to him like his feelings mattered. Rather than rip him a new one, she thought carefully about her words so as not to hurt him as she had done so frequently in the past.
She would cling to him, whether it be hugging or handholding, she always clutched to him as though she feared of what would happen if she let go. Dark eyes would light up whenever he made a stupid joke; she could roll her eyes and scoff all she wanted, but there was always a spark of affection just beneath the surface of every sarcastic reply. She smiled at him. They were small but surprisingly frequent, and they always made his heart leap.
She didn't love him, but she hadn't been lying when she told him how much she cared for him. However, this did not excuse her actions, and he would be getting answers.
"Percy, please wake up. Please."
He closed his eyes and a sigh escaped him,"Just...just give me some time, Snowflake." He didn't want to wake up, not yet, he wanted to maintain his clarity. And, admittedly, his cowardice got the best of him. He knew that if he woke up then he'd have to face reality, and he couldn't do that yet. Not yet.
But he knew he couldn't avoid it forever.
"You went too far." The goddess murmured, casting a look of pity in Khione's direction.
"I...I know. Please just undo this-"
"It doesn't work like that."
Khione bit her lip, looking worriedly at the unconscious boy. She had walked in on him going crazy. He was screaming and smashing the vanity to pieces with his fists, glass shards littered the floor, blood stained the carpet, and his yells were incoherent. Sweat poured down his face and his breathing was ragged as he continued to have his meltdown, oblivious to her presence.
His face had been red, his eyes pulsed with hysteria, and he had tear stains on his cheeks. He had been ranting and raving to the point that he began drooling. His hands were caked in blood and tiny shards of glass, small bruises were beginning to form and Khione was positive he had a few broken knuckles. The vanity was completely destroyed, but even then he attacked it with more vigor than he would an enemy.
When she had finally gotten his attention, he had turned to her in surprise, smiling so happily at her that it broke her heart. He looked at her as though he hadn't seen her in years, and she had finally come back to him. In his eyes she was his world, and she could do no wrong. The warmth and intensity with which he had looked at her had made tears spring to her eyes. After all she had put him through she knew she was undeserving of such affection.
His smile was brief before he passed out. Khione couldn't remember ever feeling so guilty about her actions. She had done this to him, despite everyone's warnings, she had selfishly claimed Percy as hers and hers alone.
"Eirene-"
"I'm only the goddess of peace and tranquility, I can't undo the damage you've inflicted...or the bond you've created." She sighed, gently rubbing Percy's temples with her glowing white hands,"I can, however, mitigate the affects of the bond. I can put his mind at ease...when he wakes up he'll most likely be furious with you. But you two are still bonded...forever. That won't change."
The selfish part of her was quick to celebrate. Percy wouldn't be forever dependent on her anymore, but he'd still be by her side, he'd have no choice. But a larger part of her was terrified of her initial reaction. Her selfishness was the reason Percy was in this fragile state, everything would be different between them, and not in a good way.
"Thank you for doing this-" Khione started, but was cut off by a sad laugh.
"I'm not here for you. It goes against my very nature to allow someone with his mental state to continue to suffer. Insolent girl, why could you not swallow your own pride? If not for the boy then for the sake of your own wellbeing?" The goddess chastised, shaking her head in disappointment.
Khione bristled at this,"I did not do this out of pride!" She snarled, glowering at the woman before her,"Don't speak of what you don't understand."
When she had claimed his memories she had also crafted memories that would make him more prone to falling for her. The bond she had created was a small one at first, only slightly increasing his affection. It allowed her to get away with treating him terribly, up until he seemed to shake himself out of the trance as they spent more time together. At first she wasn't concerned that the bond she had created was a weak one.
But then they became closer. She started to deeply care for him and he started making crazy declarations of love. It had softened her in a way that had startled her. Then they ran into Annabeth and the way Percy looked at her had driven her crazy-
Eirene looked at her curiously,"Then why did you do it? What was the motivation behind such brash actions?"
Fear.
But she would never admit that. No one could know the true motivation behind her decision, it would hurt her reputation...how could one remain properly respected if they allowed fear to rule their lives? She had ridiculed many gods for the ridiculous decisions they made out of fear, and to her great shame she had become one of them. She had become the very thing she mocked and scorned, a scared goddess that acted out of paranoia.
"I don't know."
What she had done was stupid, she messed up a good thing because she wasn't content enough with what she had. She messed it up because she feared losing Percy, the person she had come closest to ever falling in love with. And now that fear was a likely reality, even though he couldn't leave her, that didn't mean he wouldn't spend eternity resenting her for her manipulative nature.
"I never wanted this." She whispered, looking at Percy sorrowfully, gently reaching forward and taking his limp hand. Delicately she plucked some glass shards out of his knuckles, trying to keep herself busy, hoping that doing so would distract her from the nauseous and foreign feeling of shame that enveloped her.
Eirene didn't bother looking at her as she continued to mend Percy's mind,"Then what did you want? You know gods aren't supposed to bond with mortals, we're far too powerful, as are our emotions...you nearly killed him..." She trailed off, finally looking at her,"What were you thinking?"
Khione couldn't come up with an answer. So she stayed silent, continuing to heal Percy's wounds, pretending to be focused on the tasked at hand. Another sigh escaped Eirene's lips as she shook her head, turning her attention back to Percy.
The ice goddess glanced at Percy's face, startled by the abrupt tears streaming down his cheeks. His eyes were closed, his brow furrowed in a frown, and his lips tugged downwards. He looked so troubled, a stark contrast to his once neutral expression when he slipped out of consciousness. Eirene flinched, barely managing to keep her hands on Percy's temples, and she blinked back tears of her own as she looked at Khione sadly.
"He knows...his mind is not at peace...he's so disturbed." The goddess breathed, shaking her head,"He knows." She repeated quietly, white eyes filling with pain as she tried to soothe the boy's turmoil,"I don't know when he'll wake up...could be hours, days, months." Her eyes hardened,"A small price to pay for what you've done." When Eirene was finished she backed away from him. She didn't say a word to Khione before she teleported away, clearly disgusted with her, but Khione could care less. She just wanted Percy to wake up.
"Percy." She murmured, gently running her hands through his hair,"Wake up." She knew him waking up would result in them fighting, that was inevitable, but Khione didn't care. She just wanted him to wake up and feel better. She would take whatever punishment was thrown at her, so long as Percy woke up. A part of her wanted him to yell at her, she deserved it, but she also wanted this to all be over. She wanted things to go back to normal.
It was startling. Percy almost died, he almost left, and the thought of life without him was unbearable. His near death had sparked Khione's fear, making her startling dependent on him in a way she had never been of anyone. Without Percy what would she do? Who could ever compare to him? Who could ever love someone like her?
The realization hit her like a truck, her fear stemmed from loneliness. Loneliness, that's how this all started. She didn't want Percy to leave her. At first it was because she feared being alone; a feeling she had never acknowledged or thought was possible for her to fear. Khione had a reputation of being cold and distant, and she had never realized that she desperately wanted someone to challenge her. She wanted someone to push her out of her comfort zone, to show her affection despite her aloofness, and to remain by her side despite her frigid personality.
That was Percy. And, as her feelings for him developed, the fear of loneliness had evolved into a fear of losing him. She couldn't go back to life before Percy. He had softened her heart to the point where she started to enjoy her brothers' company, she smiled more, laughed more, and felt generally happy whenever he was around. Percy brightened up her life in ways she hadn't thought possible. He was her sun, he made her feel warm, and she had grown to enjoy his warmth.
"Wake up, please." She breathed, not noticing the tears rolling down her cheeks,"Percy, please wake up. Please." She was begging now, she never begged, but her pride was the last thing on her mind. She did this to him, all he ever did was love her and she abused his trust and-stop. She sniffled, trying to pull herself together, feeling sorry wouldn't do anything to help Percy.
She picked him up and gently laid him in her bed. With careful maneuvering she was able to wrap them both in covers. Once she was settled she interlaced their fingers with one hand, her other hand fisted his shirt, and she laid her head on his chest. Khione tried to stay up and watch over him, but night came, and soon she fell into a fitful sleep.
Forgive me.
Recently my cousin passed, so I would like to dedicate this chapter to her. Rest easy Alison.
