A/N: Hello again everyone! I'm back with another update. We've reached about the halfway point of this story! I don't want to spoil anything but there's a lot coming up and things will be happening! :P

As always, a HUGE thank you to everyone that reviewed last chapter! I love hearing your thoughts on everything!

Get ready for a whole lotta awkward this chapter! I hope everyone enjoys the new update!

"Why didn't you tell me?" James asked, and I could tell by the tone of his voice that I couldn't talk my way out of this one.

"Jay-"

"Don't. Just… don't."

Okay, that hurt a little.

"I was going to tell you, I swear. I just.." I trailed off, knowing that I didn't really have a good explanation.

"How did you even run into her?" He asked softly, the hurt clear in his voice, and it made me feel ten times worse about the situation.

Ever since James' last talk with his mom, he's been really touchy when the subject came up, not that I could really blame him. As much as he tried to hide it, I knew that he was still hurt by her decision to basically cut ties with him.

"She was on campus last week. Turns out she was a guest speaker for one of the business class lectures." I said, to which he just nodded his head, staying silent for a moment before speaking again.

"Did you talk to her?"

"I…" I started, knowing that I had the chance to avoid a really awkward conversation. But I couldn't do that to James, especially seeing the hint of hope that shined in his hazel eyes. I knew that he looking for an answer, trying to figure out if his mom was really out of his life for good or not. "Yeah, I did." I responded softly, watching as his eyes immediately got this little spark to them.

"Did… did she say anything about me?" He asked hesitantly.

"Well…"

I couldn't help but do a double take as I spotted none other than Brooke Diamond getting a cup of coffee as I walked into the coffee shop.

I stood there frozen in shock for a minute before trying to decide what to do since I had about another minute before she gets her drink and spots me when she turns to leave. Turns out I had less than that as she suddenly looked up from her phone, glancing around the shop until her eyes seemingly quickly met mine.

I watched as her eyes widened in shock as I awkwardly waved at her.

'Nice going, Kendall. As if this wasn't awkward enough.'

Since she had already seen me, I decided to bite the bullet and get this over with. I walked towards her, considering it a win that she didn't leave as soon as she got her cup of coffee.

"Um… hi, Ms. Diamond." I said, not quite sure what else to say.

"Hello Kendall." She said, thankfully without fire spewing from her mouth, which is what I totally expected to happen.

"Cam we… can we talk?" I asked hesitantly, rethinking me decision as soon as the words left my mouth.

"I…" She started before letting out a sigh. "Sure. Are you getting a coffee as well?" She asked, to which I just nodded, in shock of how well this was seemingly going so far. "Get your coffee. I'll find us a table."

And with that, she walked off to find a table. I stood there for a few seconds before going to stand in line, wondering if this was some kind of trap. After I got my coffee, I almost decided to bail, before quickly deciding against it as I thought about James.

I knew that even though he didn't admit it, he missed his mom. He never tried to reach out to her after he came out as bi to her because he was convinced that she was done with him. But if there was even a chance at a reconciliation between James and his mom, I had to find out.

So with that in mind, I took a deep breath before walking over to the table that Brooke had chosen.

"So…" I said once I had taken a seat, not quite sure where to go from here. I was even partly hoping that she would start the conversation off.

"You're the one that wanted to talk." She said, but there was a hint of a playful tone to her voice that made me relax a little.

"How've you been?" I asked, deciding that was the safest way to start the conversation.

"I've been good. Busy with work, but good otherwise." She responded, keeping her response short and to the point.

"Is that why you're here? For work?" I asked, knowing that was the only reason I could come up with for her to be here.

"Yes. I was booked as a guest speaker for one of the business classes. Little did I know that I'd be running into a familiar face."

"Yeah, same here." I said softly. This was not at all how I expected my day to go.

We lapsed into an awkward silence, neither of us really sure what to say to the other given the circumstances. But in a surprising twist, it was Brooke that kept the conversation going.

"Is… is James here?" She asked hesitantly.

'She's asking about James. This is good. I think…'

"No, he's still in LA." I responded, not quite sure how much information I should give.

"Oh… I heard that the band broke up. And since you were here, I figured he would be as well. Are you two still…" She trailed off, but I was pretty sure I knew where she was going with her question.

"Together?" I asked, watching as she nodded her head. "Yes, we are. We're giving the long-distance thing a go. He's still working with Gustavo as a solo artist but the guys and I decided to chase after our dreams from before we became a band." I explained, figuring that I might as well give her the information that she was clearly fishing for.

Even though she didn't say it directly, the fact that she knew that Big Time Rush was done made me think that she kept tabs on James. Or at the very least, kept her eye out for any articles related to him.

Do you… do you miss him?" I asked hesitantly, silently praying that the rest of this conversation went in the right direction.

"I… it's complicated."

"No, it's not." I said sternly. "He's your son. Your only son. I know that you don't want to throw that all away just because he's with a guy."

"You wouldn't understand."

"There's nothing to understand. He's still your son. He's still the same boy that you raised. Nothing's changed." I assured her, but I could tell by the look on her face that she still wasn't convinced.

"Everything's changed. Kendall, you're a wonderful person. But he won't be able to have children of his own with you. He won't be able to have a biological family, among other things."

"But that doesn't matter to him, so it shouldn't matter to you." I said, tired of her using that same argument. "We may not be able to have a biological family, but we can still have a family. In fact, we have one now." I said sternly, thinking of Carlos and Logan as well as my mom and Katie.

"Family is more than just blood. We can adopt children, and I know that we will love them as if they were our biological children. But right now, you're depriving James of a huge part of his family, you." I added, hoping that my words to get through to her. "Since his dad left, you're the only blood relative that he has left. Do you really want to let your relationship with him go to waste over something as trivial as this?"

I could tell that she was debating, but I never got an answer as she looked at her watch before standing up.

"I have to go, or I'm going to be late." She said, which I wasn't sure if that was true or not, but apparently she was determined for this conversation to be over.

"Just… please think about at least calling him? Please?" I pleaded, knowing that he at least needed closure if this really was how things were going to end between them.

"I will." She promised, and I could tell that she meant it. I just hoped that she would make the right decision in the end. "It really was nice seeing you again Kendall. And… please look after my son."

"I will. I promise." I responded, hoping that her response was a good sign.

She nodded before grabbing her coffee and leaving.

"That's why I didn't tell you." I said softly, watching as he wiped the few silence tears that escaped his eyes away. "I don't know what her decision will be. And I didn't want to get your hopes up in case she never called."

"At least now I know that there's a chance, albeit a small one. But it's more than I had to go on before." He responded, to which I just nodded, seeing where he was coming from.

"Whatever happens, just remember that I'm here for you, okay?"

"I will."

"Are you still mad at me?" I asked, knowing that if he was, he had every right to be. But I let out a sigh of relief when he shook his head.

"You were just looking out for me, like always. Kinda hard to stay mad at you for that." He said, a small smile gracing his face.

"I love you."

"I love you too." He said, his smile widening a little more before falling a bit. "I have to go. Ryder and I have to meet with Gustavo and talk about our song."

I nodded my head, even though I wished that we had longer to talk. But I knew that I needed to get things done too.

"Ok, I have work to do anyway."

"Alright, talk to you later?"

"Definitely."

We said our goodbyes before we both logged off Skype. Before I could get up, Trevor walked in, a lovesick look on his face which could only mean one thing.

"Have fun with Hayley?" I asked, raising my eyebrows suggestively.

"You have no idea." He chuckled, before walking over to his bed.

"How long have you two been together, anyway?" I asked curiously as I made my way to my own bed, taking my laptop with me.

"About four years. We got together when we were in high school and have been pretty much inseparable ever since." He said, the smile never leaving his face as he stared off into space. It was probably the same look I got when I thought about James.

"Highschool sweethearts, huh? How cliche." I said jokingly, getting a chuckle out of the brunet.

"Maybe, but love is love you know. When you click with somebody and can picture spending the rest of your life with them, you just gotta risk it and go for it. You know?"

"Yeah, I know exactly what you mean." A smile forming on my face as I thought about James.

I wasn't completely sure if we were going to be able to handle this whole long-distance thing. But so far, things have been pretty great. Sure, it got hard at times, but we've always be there to pick each other up.

"By the way, are you still up for coming to my party this weekend?" Trevor asked as he sat up a little to look at me. "I'm not throwing here, if that's what you're worried about. A friend of mine has an apartment off campus that he's letting me throw it at. It won't be many people, just twenty or so."

"Yeah, me and the guys already talked about it. We'll be there." I assured him.

"Awesome!" He exclaimed, a grin breaking out on his face. "This is going to be great!"

I wasn't sure about that, but I did know that I would need a de-stress from all the schoolwork I would be working on the next few days, and a party sounded like a great place for that.

Done! So things have been relatively calm the past few chapters, but things really start moving over the course of the next few chapters!

So, how awkward was the conversation between Kendall and Brooke? But at the same time, it was... kind of sweet. I wrote and re-wrote that part two or three times because there was so much I wanted to get across and it was a pivotal part of the chapter. Then I added the KendallxTrevor talk to kind of lighten the mood a bit :P

Anyway, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the chapter, especially the talk between Kendall and Brooke! Is there a chance for reconciliation between James and Brooke? Only time will tell!

My goal is to update this chapter again next weekend, if not sooner.

Until then!
