His Sleeping Princess
Author's Note: Alright, I wrote this in 20 minutes, beginning at 11:30 PM last night. It's really short, but I think that it's worth posting anyways. So, here it is. No smut, just some Cobert cuteness. It takes place while Cora is pregnant with Sybil and Mary is about 4 1/2 to 5 years old.
Robert and Mary entered the library after a short walk through the gardens. Initially, Mary had asked that her mama go with her, but she had said she would rather rest. She had been tired more since the baby had started kicking, so both Robert and Mary expected her to upstairs sleeping, and not sleeping on a sofa in the library. She looked quite uncomfortable, Robert thought as he observed her sleeping form with a smile on his face.
Naturally, he thought she always looked beautiful. Heck, he knew she was, and always would be, beautiful. But nothing could compare to how peaceful she looked while she was sleeping. She had both of her hands resting on her swollen abdomen and she was breathing lightly.
"Mary," Robert whispered. "Keep quiet, I don't want to wake my princess." He continued to smile at Cora's sleeping form.
"But, papa," Mary whispered. "I thought Edith and I were your princesses. Mama can't be your princess too."
"Alright then, your mama is my queen," he replied, still whispering. He walked over to Cora and bent down to pick her up. "Mary, I need you to open all the doors between here and your mama's room. I'm going to bring her upstairs to her bed." He smiled slightly broader for a moment, proud of himself for not admitting that he and Cora shared a bed. Mary nodded lightly in reply and went to make sure the library door was open for her papa. Robert picked up his sleeping wife in his arms and carried her out of the library.
As he walked up the stairs, he became a thousand times more careful with his wife. He could not drop her on the stairs. He could not drop her at all. It would, without a doubt, harm her and the baby and that was the last thing he wanted to do. He didn't want to live with the regret of harming his wife and possibly killing his own child.
He felt so much more comfortable at the top, where he could walk like a normal person again, without the fear of dropping his precious treasure. Mary opened the bedroom door for her papa and she waited until he said she could go before leaving.
Robert stayed with her after putting her on the bed and under the bed covers. He removed his shoes, jacket, waistcoat, tie and belt and slipped into the bed with his wife. He wrapped his arms around her and fell asleep, hoping that they wouldn't be awoken until the dressing gong.
