A/N: Hello all and welcome to the last chapter of Just a Dream! It has been a fun ride and I am proud to have written and finished a story. I look forward to writing the two sequels of this story that will be entitled 1."Friends With Familiar Faces" which will feature some characters from Gilmore girls and 2. "Ghosts of the Past" which will go back into the Smallville world. I will also be writing some one-shots for this story to tell the in between moments and history that we didn't get to see in the story itself. This story is already set up on my profile and I will start writing them soon after finishing this story. I will be posting on that story as to when the sequel will be up so check it out! Thank you to all who have stuck with my story and put up with my long gaps in writing time! So without further ado, the final chapter of Just a Dream!
Kaitlyn woke the next morning on the couch in the living room. Sitting up, she noticed Clark awkwardly sleeping in the chair next to her. She smiled sadly at her friend and placed her blanket over his shoulders. Standing, she realized how exhausted she felt and the events of the day before came flooding back to her.
She had been on the verge of killing the man that had once been the love of her life. She felt shocked at how fast her life had fallen apart around her. She had another lost another man she loved and was now a widow expecting a child in 7 months.
Clark stirring in the chair brought Kaitlyn out of her inner thoughts. He opened his eyes and blinked a few times in the sunlight streaming through the window before turning to look at her.
"Hey...how are you feeling this morning?" he asked, a concerned look covering his face.
Kaitlyn shrugged, not quite knowing how to respond.
"I don't know how I feel. I almost feel empty in a way. My husband is gone and I almost killed the father of my child last night. My son doesn't know what is going on. My actions have taken away another sibling of one of my best friends. I'm pregnant and a widow. I just haven't had the chance to fully process it all yet."
Clark nodded and gave Kaitlyn a sympathetic look.
"I will be here for you while you process it. Chloe too. We have all lost things and can understand that you need time to process."
Kaitlyn smiled at her friend and placed her hand on his shoulder in gratitude.
"Thank you Clark. That means a lot to me."
A few days later, Kaitlyn was helping Rosie get ready to return to Ireland. She was going back to get things in order before Matthew's funeral the following week. Kaitlyn was going to help from home and would be in contact with Matthew's parents. The pain of his death hit her in waves. She tried to keep busy to keep her mind off of it, but nothing could erase her grief. She had been avoiding Rosie as much as possible, not wanting to feel more guilt for taking away her remaining sibling.
Kaitlyn heard her phone going off on her nightstand and grabbed it to see who was calling. The name flashing across the screen surprised her and her anger flared. Her anger provoked her enough to answer the call.
"Why on earth are you calling me Alexander?" she bit out.
Lex's response was not one she expected from him.
"I need to make things right. I know that I can't undo what I did, but I need to try and make things up to you. I'm so sorry for taking Matthew from you. I was so angry and I didn't know what I was doing until after it happened. My mind told me that he had stolen you from me and that I just needed to get you back. I truly love you Kaitlyn. I know that is hard for you to believe, but it is true…"
Kaitlyn shook her head and interrupted him.
"No Lex. You don't love me. If you loved me, you wouldn't have done this. You wouldn't have hurt me like this. You wouldn't have taken away my happiness and murdered my husband. You wouldn't have stolen the father of my child away from me. You wouldn't have taken the only father Joshua has ever known away from him."
She knew the last part would hit Lex hard. He had never been Joshua's father like Matthew had been. He hurt more than just her when he killed him, he hurt Joshua as well.
Lex paused before responding.
"I wish I couldn't take my actions back, but I can't. The only thing I can do is try to help you in any way that I can. I will do as I promised and get out of your life, but I want to do what I can to make your life easier. I have taken the liberty of setting up 3 accounts. Money will be put into them for the rest of your life, Joshua's life, and your babies life. One is for Joshua, one is for you, and one is for your child. I know I can't replace what I took from you, but I want to provide the support that I can. Please don't refuse this. It is the only thing that I can truly do to help make up for my mistakes."
Kaitlyn thought about what Lex had just proposed to her. As much as she wanted to hang up the phone and remove him from her life forever, she wanted him to pay for what he took from her. If it meant he literally had to pay, so be it. Her supposed death would be hard to explain and she had no method of supporting herself yet. The money would be a big help.
Lex spoke again at the end of the line.
"Kaitlyn? Are you still there?"
"Yes I am. I will accept your offer. Just know that it doesn't even begin to cover what you took from me. Nothing will ever make up for it. Your money won't bring my husband back and doesn't change a thing."
"I know. This is the only thing I can do. I will work out the details and have the information mailed to you. After that, you will never have to hear from me again for as long as we both live. I promise you that. Goodbye Kaitlyn. I never wanted things to end this way."
"Goodbye Lex."
Kaitlyn hung up the phone and sat on her bed processing the information she had just gotten. She would be set financially for life, but at what cost? The only peace of mind that she got was that the Luthors wouldn't be interfering with her life any longer. She was free.
Kaitlyn found herself driving down a road in a place that was not familiar to her. She was in a small town and the townspeople were smiling as she drove by. She drove up to a house that had a realtor sign in front. The "for sale" portion had been covered by a "sold" sign. Getting out of her car, she looked around, taking in the view of her new home. This was her chance to start anew with her family. She glanced at the sign across the street that told her the name of her new hometown. Stars Hollow.
Two weeks after her conversation with Lex, Kaitlyn woke from a dream that put her in a thoughtful mood. She had been thinking of moving away from the place that held so many painful memories for her. She couldn't go back to Ireland. It too was filled with too many memories. Her dream seemed to answer her question for her. She was to move to some place called Stars Hollow.
Kaitlyn made her way to the kitchen where her mother was attempting to get Joshua to eat his breakfast. She looked up when Kaitlyn entered the room and took in Kailtyn's thoughtful expression.
"Morning sweetie. You look like you have something on you mind."
Kaitlyn took a seat at the table and looked at her mother.
"Have you ever considered leaving Smallville, mom?"
Deb nodded and sat down next to her daughter.
"Yes. Many times. I wanted to leave after your father and brother died but you were so young and we had family here, so I stayed. Then I wanted to move after you left for Ireland, but I wanted to be here in case you were ever able to come home."
Kaitlyn sighed and realized that they both needed to get away from this town and all its horrible memories.
"I was thinking that maybe we should move. The money I got from Lex will make it easy for us to move somewhere new."
Deb nodded in agreement.
"Where were you thinking of moving to?"
"Have you ever heard of a town called Stars Hollow?"
A/N: And with that, we have reached the end of this portion of the story. I hope you read the upcoming sequels and have enjoyed this story. Thank you again for staying with me. Please review and I hope to see you all in my readers in the future!
