Erza stood up from her chair, surprised and angry. Her eyes were wide, like she had just seeing something she wasn't supposed to see. "Lucy's with who?" She asked, her voice cracking a little.
"Natsu told me Gajeel was taking care of her" Gray said with a bored expression, like he didn't care about that. Erza was almost making a scene. Gray sighed. Everyone heard about that and immediately all eyes fell to Levy. Erza was the one that was staring the most. Levy was annoyed. "What?"
"I thought you and Gajeel were seeing each other" Erza said and that made Levy blush violently. Her hands started to shake. "Who told you that?" Then, all eyes went to Mirajane. The official gossiper of the guild.
"You make such a cute couple" Mirajane said, ignoring completely the fact that Levy was judging her. It was like she didn't care that she had been found gossiping about them. The fact that Gajeel and Levy looked cute together was much more important.
"For your information" Levy said, closing her book. Her face still red. She already regretted every word she was about to say. "I'm seeing someone else"
"Is it Jet?" Mirajane asked, a little more excited than she should. While hearing the conversation, Jet imagined himself dating Levy. He was in love with her, but the thought of him actually dating her... It made his hard drive collapse. His nose was bleeding now.
"Mira!" Levy tried to defend herself, blushing and stuttering. She hated to be the spotlight. "It's secret" She said and tried to run away from the crowd staring at her.
One person was brave enough to say something about the other subject that everybody else wanted to talk about. No one knew who started the conversation, but before they knew, they were discussing it. They didn't approve that Natsu pretty much ignored Lucy to the point of her running away from the guild.
"Didn't he noticed it?" Someone asked. But, nobody answered the question, since they didn't noticed it either. Wendy didn't like where that conversation was going. Levy didn't like to be in the spotlight, but she needed to say something about it.
"None of you have the right to say nothing!" She screamed, finally forgetting about the book she was trying to read. "You can't say that he didn't notice, because none of you noticed either! I didn't see any of you get worried or ask anything to anybody. You just followed with your lives, ignoring the fact that your best friend had disappeared for two whole months!"
Everybody stayed quiet now. "That's not true, Levy." Mirajane defended herself. "I knew where Lucy went. I cared too"
"Yeah, but you still looked out for your little sister, right?" Levy was out of her normal. She had just crossed her comfort zone and she didn't care. She had to say. It was eating her.
"Don't talk about Lisanna that way!" Elfman tried to defend the sister that wasn't there. "Just because Lisanna came back, doesn't give you the right to ignore Lucy completely!"
And then, Levy was panting. Everyone stood silent. They were afraid to say anything. After all, she was right. And how come no one else noticed they were doing it? Replacing Lucy for Lisanna? Who does that?
"Just Gajeel has the right to say that he noticed Lucy's absence" Levy said, with a pinch of jealousy. But only a little. She let go of her feelings for him a while ago. But it was still there, somehow.
"If you were so worried, why didn't you go along with him?"
"He didn't say where he was going" Levy was calmer now, and her chest was now empty of the negative feelings she was carrying. She hated to burst like that. "If it wasn't for him, she would still be there, right?"
Someone mocked, trying to invalidate what Levy was saying. And Levy didn't answer. She started to think. If he hadn't gone... Lucy would be dead by now.
"That doesn't matter now" Wendy finally said, in a calm tone. "The important is that Gajeel saved her and now she's safe."
The guild stood in silence for a long time now. Then, out of the blue, Erza said what she wanted.
"I think I should visit her"
