Disclaimer: If I owned it, I shouldn't be writing this.
Once I stepped out of the bus, I took a deep breath, preparing myself for what's about to come. I hoped that nobody would bully or pick on me today, but unfortunately, luck wasn't on my side.
I walked through the doors of Goode High school. Yeah, I know, I'm too young. Erin and I skipped a grade.
Anyway, we walked as quietly as we could, hoping that everyone wouldn't notice us.
"Oh look. Looks like Miss Asian decided to show up," a deep, familiar, gruff voice said.
I froze.
"Yeah, looks like it," a squeaky, familiar, annoying voice said.
Oh great. Looks like Mr. and Mrs. Bully are here.
Oh wait, Let me introduce them. Mr. Bully is Mark Renal, the dumbest guy I have ever met. It's a miracle he passed middle school. He has a permanent scowl on his face, stringy brown hair, and ugly pig eyes.
Mrs. Bully is Shannon Derrell, the dumbest girl I have ever met. She is the epitome of a dumb blonde. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against blondes. Erin is blonde, and she's pretty smart. Shannon has kaleidoscope eyes, and a pretty face. Well, she kind of ruined it by putting crap-loads of make-upon her face. Seriously, she looks like a monster dipped in cosmetics.
Rough hands shoved me against the lockers. I struggled and squirmed, but he didn't lose his grip.
"No. Today's my birthday. I'm 13 now. I'm a teenager. No more 12 year old bullied Ava. Today is a fresh new start," I thought. I felt a burst of confidence run through me.
I stopped struggling. Mark and Shannon had a confused look on his face, and I mentally smirked. I kneed him where the sun doesn't shine. He doubled over in pain. I kicked him in the stomach. He groaned even more.
I looked over to where Shannon was, and found nobody.
I looked over to Grover and Erin, who were staring at me in awe. The whole school was looking at me in awe too. I blushed and look away, not used to the attention.
"What just happened?" Erin spoke.
"Me beating up Mark, that's what," I said, feeling proud.
"Where did you get the confidence to do that?" Grover questioned.
I told them that I was tired of them bullying me and everyone else.
They shared a look, as if they knew something I didn't know.
RING!
The bell rang.
"Guys, come on! We'll be late! I don't want to get detention on my birthday!"
The rest of the day was… well, peaceful. Mark and Sharron avoided me, so I guess you can say I was pretty happy.
I walked to a small café with Grover and Erin for lunch. I didn't bother going home, knowing my parents forgot my birthday. They don't even make dinner for me anymore!
I had this strange feeling that we were being watched. I shook it off, for the tenth time today, and entered the café.
Our waiter took our orders, but every time I looked somewhere, he was watching us. Talk about weird.
I turned my attention back to Grover and Erin, who were whispering frantically.
I didn't want to hear, so I said, "Uh, you know I can hear you guys, right?"
They turned to look at me, with a look I couldn't understand in their eyes. They started to look around, their eyes eventually landing on our waiter who was watching us intently. Creepy.
Grover's nose started twitching for some reason.
Erin and Grover shared a look, again. God, how many times did they do that?
Our creepy waiter came with our orders. I sipped my lemon iced tea and ate my sandwich.
After a few minutes of silence, I decided to break the ice and ask the big question.
"What's up? You've been acting weird today. You've been sending looks and whispering frantically."
They shared a worried look, again.
"I have to go the bathroom," Grover declared. "But Grover," Erin protested, but Grover gave her a look. "Fine," she managed, with gritted teeth.
Suddenly, Mr. Not-So-Normal-But-Creepy-Waiter came, "Hmm, where are my other appetizers? I guess 1 demigod will do," he spoke darkly, baring his teeth to reveal sharp fangs. Wait, what?!
Thunder started to boom, even though today there was no cloud in the sky. Weird, again.
His face became more like a dog, with brown eyes, pointy ears, and a black snout. His body became sleek and black, like a seal. His feet became stubby, and his hands became razor sharp human-like hands. He grew to 7 feet tall.
Telekhine.
Wait, how did I know that?
I started rubbing my lucky ring, the only item that my real father gave me.
Might have rubbed it too hard, because I twisted it.
Then 3 things happened at once.
The ring seemed to expand, then a sword materialized in my hand.
The Telekhine lunged at me.
I didn't know what I was doing, but I swung the sword.
It managed to scratch my arm, and then it vaporized into golden dust.
I just stood there, pondering about what just happened, ignoring the stinging pain on my arm, and then Grover and Erin came.
"What happened?" Erin asked worriedly, glancing at my bleeding arm.
"We have to go. Now," Grover said urgently.
"But I have to heal her. Look at her arm for Pete's sake!" Erin shouted, gesturing to my arm. Heal me? How can she heal me?
"Erin, we have Ambrosia and Nectar, and besides, I have a feeling you will need mist of your energy today," He replied, his voice urgent. Ambrosia and Nectar?
He gave me a flask from his book bag and a small piece of a lemon square.
"Eat this," He ordered.
"Is this edible?" I asked.
"Yes, now eat it. Now," He said in a very commanding voice.
I hesitantly took it, and once it landed on my tongue, I felt good. Like, really good. A warm feeling was spread across me, and the pain subsided. It tasted like mint chocolate chip ice-cream that Erin, Grover, and I eat on Fridays, but in other words, Movie Night.
"Can I have more?" I managed to croak out, still tingly from the warm feeling.
"No, and now he have to go. Now," he said, grabbing Erin and I by the arm.
Somehow, the sword turned back to my bronze ring, which was on my ring finger. How did that happen, I don't know.
Then, we started running.
Like we were running from something evil.
Very evil.
