A/N: okay so I know it's been forever and a day since I wrote something on this but I don't really focus on this one, but I'm back now so let's get this show on the road I guess.
A MUCH NEEDED RECAP: OKAY so one day Bella leaves Edward at home because he is sick but she soon comes back because she feels guilty about leaving him alone. When she comes home she's in for a shock when she finds Edward cheating on her with her guy best friend, James. They breakup and the people rejoice. Jasper after being away for 5 years comes back when he hears of his sister's upcoming nuptials (wedding for those who don't know). Just about everyone accepted him back with open arms except Bella. She gave him a mean right hook to his strong chiseled jawline. OH YEAH I ALMOST FORGOT! Jasper hates Edward because Edward asked Bella out before he could even though he knew that Jasper straight up called dibs on the Swan of Forks first. Edward has hit rock bottom and has confronted Bella outside of Roses wedding where Edward, Bella, and Jasper stand in a VERY VERY OH SO HEATED atmosphere.
On with the story
Chapter 6:
BPOV
"Edward?" he breathes out. He glance moves up and down Edward's body. I know how he feels I couldn't believe that this was Edward either.
Edward lowers his gaze to the ground and mumbles out pathetically, "Jasper…"
The fury that fills Jasper is hard to ignore. He grabs Edward's threadbare shirt into his big fist and pulls Edward up to his height and bares his teeth in a menacing snarl, "You!" he growls out, a little salvia spraying across Edward's face. Edward turned his face away from Jasper's hate ridden one. "I promised myself that if I ever saw you again I would make sure you wouldn't live to see another day."
In shock I grab a hold onto Jasper's arm.
"Jasper! What the hell is your problem?" I yell at him.
Jasper doesn't even acknowledge the words I just said. His fierce gaze is focused solely on Edward, and if looks could kill Edward would wish he had never been born. I had never seen such intense hatred in Jasper's eyes and such fear in Edward's. Whatever had transpired between the two them in the past must have been really bad.
"You have some nerve, you know that?" he spat at Edward. He scans Edward from head to toe. "You were a spineless coward then… and you're a spineless coward now. I guess somethings never change, huh Eddie?" His face sneered at the last word.
This is a whole new side of Jasper that I have never seen. It scares me but I like seeing him like this, all strong and volatile and free. Before he was kinda never around that much, he was the "I'm going to sit in my room and write music about my life and be alone" type of guy. We were still pretty good friends when it boiled down to it. Jasper was more of a lover than a fighter, so to see him like this is a change.
Edward tried to move away from Jasper but that only made Jasper tighten his grip on Edward's shirt.
Edward's eyes widened, if that was even possible, as if he was begging Jasper.
"Come on, Jasper… please. It was 5 years ago. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done what I did but I saw the opportunity and I took it before it was too late." Edward begged Jasper but Jasper wasn't having it. His grip got tighter and his face closer to Edward's.
I scanned Jasper's face for a sign that he might loosen up and talk to me but I saw none. He kept his hatred focused on Edward.
"Jasper, what is he talking about? What happened 5 years ago? What opportunity is he talking about?" I asked in the world's most confused tone. I wanted to know what was going on but there was so much testosterone in the air, mostly from Jasper, that I don't think I was ever going to get an answer better yet a straight one. (NO pun intended, well maybe a little bit.)
"He took something from me Bella. Something I've wanted for years. That's why I left 5 years ago; I couldn't stand the thought of him having everything I wanted, everything I've dreamed about." Jasper's voice was venomous, it was deep and husky.
I moved the hand that was on his arm to his shoulder. "Jasper, please calm down." I started rubbing his very tense shoulder as a means to calm him, but he was so wound up that it didn't work. "What did he take Jasper? What thing did he take that so important? Come on tell me what it was." I was pleading with him at this point. Maybe if he got it off his chest he'll feel the need to let Edward go without killing him.
There was a pregnant pause surrounding us and it was unbearable.
Finally after what seemed like an eternity, Jasper spoke up, and the words that spilled from his lips were the biggest shock, even bigger than Edward cheating on me with James, I had ever experienced.
"You, Bella. It was you. He stole you from me."
The hand that I had on his shoulder slowly slipped off. I was trying to process it but it wasn't going through. It was like my mind had shut down the part of my brain that processes shocking information.
"You, Jasper Whitlock, wanted me, Isabella Swan?" I slowly stutter out from my shocked lips.
I looked up to study his face and I saw his eyes shift towards my face and go soft.
"Want. I want you, I always had." He shifted his eyes back to Edward and they immediately hardened back to the blue sapphire stones they were. "But he," he shook Edward, "took you from me."
"How did he "steal me" away from you?" I was curious as to how I was stolen from him when I was never his.
Jasper took a deep breath, "It was before the graduation party, Emmett, Edward, and I were at Edward's house you know being guys. Emmett was telling how he was going to propose to Rose and he even asked for my blessing. Of course I gave it to him; there was no one more perfect for my Rosie than Emmett. Edward was talking about his plans for Seattle why he changed it from Alaska. A little while later, Emmett left to go be with Rose. So it left just me and Edward. I was showing him the necklace I got you as your graduation present and how much it meant for me to give it to you. I told him that tonight would be the night that I was going to confess to you everything I felt and everything I had done. I was going to tell you about all the secret Valentine's Day present, all the secret birthday presents, all the secret Christmas presents, and even why you would receive these flowers every year on the same day. I was going to tell you everything and he," Jasper released a harsh breath, "he knew and he still did what he did." Jasper pulls Edward closer to his face, "And now… he's gonna pay for what he did. He took away my chance to finally be happy with the girl I loved."
Jasper released Edward and before I knew it Jasper's right fist connected with Edward's nose. The snap could be heard around the world.
I heard Edward groan out in pain but I wasn't focused on that I was focused on the fact that Jasper was about to go in for another blow.
"Jasper! Stop!" I grabbed his arm before he could hit Edward. The defense training that my father made me and Bree go through kicked in and I tightly grabbed his arm and twisted it behind his back and grabbed a hold of his wrist and flipped it upward, palm facing up. "Jasper, one more step and you're gonna break your arm. I don't wanna do it but if you don't stop you're gonna force me to do it." I huffed, "This is your sister's wedding for god's sake. You can't do this at her wedding. She just got you back and she's married to the man of her dreams, and I will not allow you to screw up this day for her." I gently eased up on his arm. "Are you going to be calm?" I got no response from him so I tightened my grip on his arm and pushed up just bit. He winced in pain before submitting.
Edward chose the moment to speak up, "Thank you Bella." He shakily got up from the ground. There was blood dripping from his nose in a steady stream.
"I didn't do it for you. I did it for Rose. Hurry up and leave… no one wants you here."
He looked at me with pleading eyes filled with sadness. "Bella…"
"Did I stutter? Leave. NOW." He still didn't make a move to leave I threatened him, "If you don't leave now so help me god I'll let go if Jasper's arm and let him do what he wants to do to your face.
That got him up and moving, he quickly scrambled away.
When I could no longer see him I let go of Jasper's arm. He started massaging it to get the blood flowing again.
"Why'd you do it Bells? And when did you start paying attention in your self-defense classes, you hated them."
"You've been gone for 5 years Jasper, things change, people change. I'm not that same girl you remember."
"No you're that girl that no matter what sent me and email every day, left me voicemails every day, and told me happy birthday, and merry Christmas." He moved towards me and tucked a tendril of hair behind me ear. "You're exactly the girl I fell in love with all those years ago. I loved you for the smile you have when something you baked has come out perfect, the laugh you have when Emmett does something stupid, when you cry when you see cat videos, and even though you don't it I love the twinkle that you have in your eyes when we talk. That's what I fell in love with" he leans his face close to mine and I can feel and smell the mint mixed with whiskey on his breath and then the hand that pushed the hair behind my ear moves along my cheek leaving behind a heated path that reached further down than he needed to know, "and those things haven't changed."
There was a fire spreading throughout me. I don't know how to explain. It went through me in floods. Could this be desire? Do I desire Jasper?
Looking into his oh so blue eyes that seem to make me never want to look away from them. I'll admit back in high school I had a little crush on Jasper. Okay! I had a pretty big crush on Jasper, but he was way too hot for someone like me. Everything about him was perfect while everything about me was average at best.
In this moment I want Jasper more than I want food, and I always want food.
"Jasper," my cheeks flamed up and I couldn't manage more than a whisper. I was breathing heavy and I wanted so badly to reach up and just connect our lips. I want to know if they're as soft as they look. I want to know if he taste as good as he smells.
"Oh no Darlin', as much as I want to kiss you right now and maybe even ravage you in this parking lot," he strokes my face with a tender touch, "I want to do this right. I want to do all the wooing, the wining and dining, and the playing hard to get. I want to get to know you again."
Oh my lord, I knew Jasper was smooth but damn that was like silk passing through my fingers.
"I'm still mad at you for leaving the way you did and coming back thinking everyone was going to accept you with open arms. It's going to take more some wining and dining for me to even consider forgiving you, better yet falling in love with you."
"All in due time Darlin'." He dropped his hands and stepped back. "All in due time." And then he just walked off towards the entrance that leads to Rose's wedding reception.
I stood there for a few more seconds trying to gather my thoughts.
My ex-boyfriend who I haven't seen in like a year suddenly shows up at my best friend's wedding blaming me for the fact that his life has gone to shit. My best friend has finally gotten married. Her brother who no one has seen or heard of in 5 years makes an appearance. I have mixed emotions about that. I'm happy he's back, for Rose's sake of course, but then life was going okay without him there. We had all but forgotten about Jasper Whitlock, the son and brother who no longer wanted the life he had so left the second he got the chance. Not only did he abruptly leave but he came back just as abruptly and dropped the biggest bomb on me, he was in love with me and was going to tell me but Edward beat him to the punch. So, Jasper has hated Edward for 5 years and has basically sworn to kill him and he almost did. He has also sworn that he will get me to fall in love with him.
Wow! Is this General Hospital or something?
I shake my head to clear it of those thoughts. I need to get back in there and be there for Rose.
I square my shoulders, check my hair and face in the window of the car, and walk back towards the wedding reception.
I had got over my childish feelings for Jasper Whitlock and I will make damn sure they don't come back.
