Epilogue
Several months after the night that Jenkins had tried to end his life, Mark stood at an altar in a little white chapel located in the heart of downtown Lexington, Kentucky with a few officers at his side. He took a quick moment to look at his tux to ensure that it was looking appropriate before his eyes looked down the aisle in time to see a flower girl and ring bearer starting their way down the white carpet towards the direction of where he was.
Well…This is your moment, Mark. His conscience whispered to him in a soothing way from the recesses of his brain. There is no turning back now.
I am well aware of that. Mark spoke to his conscience in a similar way while his eyes watched the brides maids begin their way down the aisle once the ring bearer and flower girl took their spots on the side opposite of where he was. I am ready for me to leave my old life for a new one.
I have to say that I like seeing you in this light. Perhaps you only needed Ella all along to bring this side of you out into the light from where you had been keeping it hidden away.
Ella is the best thing that has ever happened to me. She has shown me all the things that I have missed with her during our time apart, and the love that she has kept for me and only me during my absence from her life.
I suppose it is a good thing that she chose against listening to you, and intervening in the fight between Jenkins and yourself.
I owe her my life for stepping in, and rescuing me like she did. Ella put herself on the line to save me from death. I am forever in her debt.
The change in the music caught his attention. His eyes focused once more to where they had been, and caught sight of Ella to be moving to the entrance of the aisle way with Chief William Brighton on her arm, and starting on her way down the path that would bring her before him at the altar.
Oh my god…Ella looks like an angel in the outfit she is wearing right now. She is absolutely beautiful in her wedding gown…I can't even think of the proper words to say to do her beauty justice.
Marks's gaze looked over Ella's curvaceous frame in the white wedding gown that had a top that was a corset tube top attached to a long, flowing skirt that was bunched in various areas by clusters of rhinestones on it. His eyes moved up to where a white veil hung over the front and back of her long, curly, black hair and face, and found her to be smiling, lovingly, at him from underneath it. The sight caused his smile to widen a little more. He kept his focus on her as the captain walked her up, giving her to him. Mark took her hands into his, and looked into her eyes from where he stood for a moment before he looked to an older woman walking up towards them to stand before them.
"We have gathered here today," the justice of the peace said, standing before the pair at the altar, "to join these two in holy matrimony. Do you have the rings?"
"Yes." Mark said, calmly. His voice trembled with nervousness due to the need for the moment be as perfect as he could make it be.
He turned to a spot, and watched the ring bearer show the rings. Mark took up a ring, as did Ella, and focus back on her as he took one of her hands with the ring ready to slide it on.
"Repeat after me. I, Mark Callaway."
"I, Mark Callaway."
"Take you, Ella Adams."
"Take you, Ella Adams."
"To be my wife."
"To be my wife."
"I promise to be true to you."
"I promise to be true to you."
"In good times and bad."
"In good times and bad."
"In sickness and health."
"In sickness and health."
"I will love you and honor you all of my days."
"I will love you and honor you all of my days."
Once he had finished the last statement, Mark eased his ring for her onto her ringer finger on her right hand. He moved his eyes towards her face, and focused on her as she begun to recite the same vow without the help of the justice of the peace.
"I, Ella Adams, take you, Mark Callaway, to be my husband." Ella said. Her voice was soft yet trembled at the same time she made her vow to him. "I promise to be true to you, in good times and bad, in sickness and health, I will love you and honor you all of my days."
His heart lifted at the vow she had made, as well as her easing the ring on his own ring finger on his left hand. Mark cupped her hands into his as he looked upon her eyes.
"Now," the woman said, speaking to Mark and Ella, as well as the rest of the room, "if no one believes these two shouldn't be wed, I am pleased to announce that you are now husband and wife. You may kiss your bride."
Mark slipped his hands from hers, and moved them to the bottom of her veil. He lifted it up and over her head before he focused in on her radiant beauty that was exuding from her angelic face. Smiling, he cupped her face in his hands, and leaned in, pressing his mouth against hers in a tender, passionate kiss. Mark let it last a few moments before he pulled back due to the sound of people cheering and clapping for them both.
"I love you, Ella." He spoke in a soft, whisper to her. "I owe you everything, and am forever in your debt."
"I love you too, Mark." Ella replied with a loving smile on her face in a whisper. "I will always love, honor, and protect you like you will to me."
"You better believe it."
"I think I need some proof to fully believe you, Mark."
"How is this for proof?"
Chuckling a bit, Mark leaned towards her face, and pressed his mouth against hers in a kiss that was not only deeper than before but full of passion that burned inside for her. He paid no attention to the people that were still in the room with them. Mark let it linger for a moment to let her soak it in and know how much he cared for her before he pulled away. He turned to the aisle way with one of his hands still clinging to hers. Flashing a smile, Mark started up the path with her at his side, leading them both towards their new life.
The End
