Love The Way You Lie
Chapter 30
A New Bestie? And The Meeting?
"Shesh! It feels good to be back again."
"It's good to see you back on your feet, Daichi." Complimented Hilary, she flashed him a bright smile. "But you must listen to the doctor when they say you must take it easy. So within the training regime, I have started you off with the simplest and easiest moves."
A sweat drop formed in Max's forehead, "Wow, he hasn't had his cast removed for two minutes and Hilary has sorted him out some training. Yep, that's our manager." He muttered near Ray, who just nodded positively.
"Are you kidding me!?" Daichi bounced around the room like a prison who had just been freed from his restraint. "I'm not following that whimpy routine of yours. I got a better idea."
The orange haired youngster then turned to face Ray, "You! Blade me! Right now!" He insisted eagerly.
An eyebrow raised on Ray's forehead, but a grin soon snuck up onto his lips. "I would love too-"
"No! Not you!" Daichi corrected, "I want to blade the woman who is standing behind you!"
"Woman?" Hilary pouted, "Well that's rude of you."
"Oh, right." Ray shrugged and then stepped aside to reveal Pearl. "I strongly suggest that you say no for the sake of his leg."
"Oh, don't worry. I was going to say no anyway." The blonde answered in a bored tone, "Daichi, I think I have caused enough trouble lately, the last thing I want to do is injure you and create more chaos."
"Oh rubbish!" By this point, Daichi was standing up onto the hospital stood to look his potential opponent dead in the eye, "You have been my replacement for the past few weeks. I want to set the record straight and prove that I am irreplaceable!"
"Wow, Beyonce's lyrics suddenly suck compared to your little speech." Pearl rolled her eyes and again, stepped behind Ray because he was blocking out the sunlight from the nearby window. "I have such a hang over and his little voice is going right through me."
"What did you just say-!"
"Oh pipe down loud mouth." Hilary growled as she bounced her fist off Daichi's head, "We all know that you are irreplaceable to us. Now stop acting like such a fool in the hospital."
"Speaking of which, we have a lot to inform you about." Kenny stepped forward and nodded gratefully at the doctor. "Lets go and grab a drink at the nearby cafe and fill you in on the latest gossip-"
"Dude, the All Starz are going up against The Majestics!" Tyson jumped the gun because he was too excited. The champion "Robert has organised the match at his own dome and I have booked front row tickets for us all. They pretty much flogged them at me for free because of who I am, of course."
"Noooo way!" Daichi fangirled with him. Both their eyes glowed with excitement."How did this come about!?"
A heavy sigh left Kenny's lips, "I give up."
"Guys, I would love to join you at the cafe. But I need to go somewhere." Max announced, "I have an appointment to attend too."
"Pearl and Johnny had a match, the Michael criticized how The Majestics are so up themselves."
"Holy cow!"
Diachi and Tyson continued their little moment. Meanwhile Hilary gave Max a nod to demonstrate that 'someone' had actually heard his comment.
"See you later Max."
"Yea, I have somewhere I need to be too. See you guys around." Pearl didn't ask for permission, she just headed towards the nearest exit with Max walking alongside her. "What appointment did you say you were going too again?"
A pale expression flooded across Max's face, "A hair appointment." He then removed his hat to reveal that his roots were coming through. "I'm actually a natural brunette-"
"Wow, me too." Pearl too bent her head down to show off her roots. "In fact, I am off to an appointment too. Next you're going to tell me that we are going to the same salon, Chi-Chi's trim?"
A light chuckle cooed from Max's lips, "Yep, that's where I always go when I am here in Japan. Wow, I can't believe I have never seen you in there before."
"I know right." Pearl winked, "Oh well, since you know Japan pretty well, do you know any backroads to the salon? Because there is a huge ambush of fans waiting for us outside."
"Uh." Immediately Max shifted his head towards the hospitals main entrance and gulped. "I think I will call a taxi for us."
With both of them sat with their dye on their foreheads, the pair chatted away consistently through their hair appointments. The salon was a brief escape from the consequences that came with their fame. They chatted about their skin routine and then discussed their childhood rolemodels. But when the hair dressers stepped out the back to help themselves to a cup of tea or a cigarette, Max dived in to ask a risky question.
"So, Pearl, how did you and Kai meet eachother?"
Caught off guard by the question, Pearl placed her phone onto the mirror ledge and then swung around to face her ex-teammate. He now had her full attention and this was quite fascinating for Max because he could feel her stone brown eyes softening.
"We met at the library one day. I was studying and he was searching for a rare business book that his boarding school couldn't get ahold of."
Stunned by what he'd just heard, Max's almost fell out of his chair. "You both met at the public library?" He almost couldn't believe what he'd just heard, especially as this was massively out of character for his captain.
"Yea, I know, it's strange." She smiled weakly, "I had my head down in an essay. The only reason he caught my attention was because he walked past me and his cologne smelt so appetising."
Max let out a laugh.
"I remember raising my head and I saw him gazing my way. At first, I thought he was checking me out and I blushed. But when he approached me, I soon realised that the book he was right in front of me. I was referencing for my accountants essay-"
"Accountant? You were studying to be an accountant?!"
"Yea, my parents pretty much shoved it down my throat because you rarely ever see a poor accountant. My brother was studying it too, but he sadly didn't finish the qualification."
The moment Pearl realised her tone was shaken, she diverted her attention back to the question.
"Anyway, Kai asked me for the book and I said no because I wasn't quite finished with it. Then when he found out that I was studying accounting, he suddenly became interested in me. He claimed to be looking for an accountant to help him manage his finances. He'd already won a few tournaments and his money was getting a little too much for his time, so he asked me to do it in exchange for the book."
"You were his accountant?!"
"I was for a while." Pearl smirked, "Kai paid me a little lower than most accountants, but I didn't care because I know that anyone will happily employ me after working for him. I'll never be out of a job even if I do retire from the blading industry."
"You're one smart girl." Blinked Max, "So, come on. How much money did he have then?"
"Alot." Pearl refused to disclose the amount and burst out laughing. "I used to sulk when he won a tournament, lets put it that way."
"Ha, wait till Tyson finds out that you are good with money. He's awful with the stuff-"
"He is?"
"Yea, that guy doesn't really realise that one day he will need his cash for the future. Tyson likes to live in the moment."
"Well, you can't really blame him."
