*Insert excuse here*

Olivia walked into Trevor's place the next morning feeling slightly better than last night. She knew she wouldn't feel completely better until she talked to him about what was going on with her.

She was happy to hear silence when she walked in, however, she knew Trevor was still here because of his car parked in the garage. "Trev?" She called out.

Trevor, who was in his office, nearly jumped up from his seat when he heard Olivia calling his name. He sped out of the room and down the hall to meet her in the living room. "Olivia." He said with a content sigh and smile on his face. He was so happy to see her.

"Are we alone?" She asked taking a seat on the couch. She couldn't help but notice how happy he was to see her.

"Yes." He answered immediately before sitting on the couch next to her. "Trent is finally back in school and my parents decided to go back home."

Olivia just nodded, but she was grateful they were finally going to have the place back to themselves. "I'm really sorry about just running out and ignoring you last night. You didn't deserve that and I would completely understand if you were upset with me right now."

"You're going through a lot right now. I do wish you would let me help you and not run to everyone else. I'm your partner and you should be able to tell me anything that's bothering you." He was hurt that once again Olivia was pushing him away, but a lot has happened. It was natural for her. He just wishes that she would fully trust him for once.

"I know. It's not fair to you. You've been so good to me..." She trailed off as she felt the tears form in her eyes. "I don't deserve you."

"Hey," Trevor reached out and grabbed her hand before he spoke. "You deserve me and more. You're hurting right now. Probably more than you're leading on. I just want you to let me be there for you. Let me be your shoulder to cry on. There is nothing in this world you have to face alone as long as I'm in your life."

The more he talked, the worse she felt. He loved her, with every fiber of his being and her brain wouldn't allow her to accept that. "Don't leave me." She barely said before a sob escaped from her throat. She couldn't believe she was being so vulnerable and clingy, but she couldn't live without him.

Trevor immediately pulled her into his arms and held her tightly. "Olivia, I could never leave you. Never. I want to spend the rest of my life with you." His heart hurt. The woman he loved, has had her entire world flipped upside down and this situation was far from over.

She heard the sincerity in his voice. She felt the love in his hug, and yet, her thoughts wouldn't stop. She let more tears fall as she grabbed on to the back of his shirt tighter.

"What can I do to help fix this?" Trevor was willingly to do anything at this point. This was the love of his life, and he didn't know how much he could take of her hurting.

Olivia just shook her head because she didn't trust her voice. There wasn't anything that he could do. She had to shut up the thoughts in her mind herself. Even with all that Trevor had done, she couldn't help but to feel the way she does.

He continued to just rub her back and ran his fingers through her hair until he felt her start to calm down a bit. Even if Olivia didn't know what he needed to do to make her feel better, he knew he just needed to be there for her every step of the way.

Ten minutes went by before Olivia was ready to talk to Trevor. She knows that he loves her and he would do anything to make her happy, but she needed to be honest with him about her feelings, or she would end up pushing him away.

"I'm scared," she started off with. She took a deep breath before she continued. "Scared of what everyone truly is compatible of doing. Almost two years ago, David was ready to spend the rest of his life with me, and here we are two years later with him dead because he wanted to kill me."

Trevor was sensing what she was hinting at. She was scared that no matter what someone said or acted towards her, she would never know how they truly felt.

Olivia continued. "I know you wouldn't even dream about hurting me. Logically, I know that. But my thoughts are so loud and telling me that you're being this perfect guy so you can take advantage of me."

Trevor opened his mouth to speak, but Olivia cut him off.

"I know you wouldn't, Trevor. And I'm probably not making any sense because even though I know you wouldn't, I'm still having these what if thoughts." The more she spoke, the more she felt like she wasn't making any sense. If it was one thing Olivia Benson hated, it was not having any control over her emotions.

He grabbed her face so Olivia had no choice but to look at him. "Listen to me, not your thoughts. I love you, Olivia," He said, putting emphasis on every word. "I will never not love you. The thought of me hurting you kills me. You are the love of my life. I do not want to live my life without you." Trevor felt himself start to get emotional while he maintained eye contact with Olivia. He could see the hurt and pain in her eyes and he wishes more than anything that he could trade places with her.

As much as Olivia believed him, she still had her fears. She knew that he meant every word, but there was still hesitation on her end. "Just don't leave me." was all she could say before she fell back into his embrace. "Don't leave me."

Olivia and Trevor walked into the precinct hand in hand. They both knew it was only a matter of time before Trevor was going to be called down for questioning.

"They're waiting for you in the second interrogation room." Cragen said when he spotted the couple. He hated that he was putting everyone through this, but he knew since they were questioning Trevor, they didn't suspect him at all.

Trevor nodded and gave Olivia a quick kiss on her forehead before he walked towards the interrogation room. He knew that they didn't have any evidence on him, so they would be asking him who he thought was behind this. Thankfully, his career as a defense attorney has prepared him for this moment. Even though he knew it was Cragen behind this, he would go in there defending this squad and Cragen like his life depended on it.

"Mr. Langan, take a seat." Tucker said glaring at the attorney.

Trevor sat at the table and folded his arms across his chest. "Let's cut to the chase. What do you guys want?" He asked looking back and forth between Cutter and Tucker.

"You get a call from a previous client of yours stating that he was just hired by David to kill Olivia. Olivia's squad launches a secret investigation against David, David ends up dead, and this client of yours is nowhere to be found. You look like the number one suspect." Tucker stated.

Trevor couldn't help but to chuckle. "You guys are grasping at straws I see. The mayor must be applying the pressure to find out who did this, huh? I'm giving you permission to dump my phone records and to check my financials. As an attorney, I can assure you that this squad isn't the only enemies David acquired in his life."

Cutter sat forward, slightly irritated with Trevor's arrogance. "Are you mocking us?"

"I am." Trevor said with no hesitation. "Let me help you guys out with your investigation, because it sounds like you need it." He straightened up in the chair before he continued speaking. "You have an attorney, who was known to be crooked. The proof is him hiring a hitman to kill a decorated NYPD officer for personal reasons. He started taking out the money for said hitman months before he was hired to work at SVU again. He purposely chose a previous client of mine to throw you off, and it is working. See, he never intended to have Olivia killed or he would have just hired someone else. He knew he was going to go down and it would look like one of us did it, specifically Olivia or myself because he wants to make her life hell. David was in real trouble with someone else, and instead of you focusing on the actual murderer, you're doing exactly what he wanted: thinking it was one of us. I'm sure he's smiling in hell right now."

"Holy shit." Fin said outside of the interrogation room. "That man is good." He knew that Trevor was aware that Cragen was behind this, but the defense he just stated had him thinking that maybe David was actually in trouble.

Cragen cleared his throat, thankful of the major deflection Trevor had just provided. "Detectives, go find David's other enemies and see which ones were getting close to catching him."

Tucker cleared his throat before slightly glancing at Cutter. Trevor was right, they were at a dead end and could not find anything that would connect the squad to the David's murder. "You seem pretty defensive for someone that isn't involved."

Trevor smirked. "Well, I am a defense attorney." He said nonchalantly.

"We'll stay in touch, Counselor." Cutter said cutting this interview short. It was clear that the person that did kill David wasn't in this squad or they were good at covering their tracks. Either way, this investigation was far from over.

Trevor nodded while a slight smirk appeared on his face. "Of course." He said while standing up from his seat. He couldn't be more proud of himself. The looks on their faces when he exposed their lackluster investigation was enough to keep him happy for the rest of his life.

"Thank you." Cragen said when Trevor walked out of the interrogation room.

"No, thank you." He replied before he looked over at Olivia. "Ready to go?"

"Actually, I think I'm going to stick around and help them investigate a little bit." It secretly warmed Olivia's heart that Trevor went in there and defended her squad, her family, like that. Any fears that she had a couple of days ago about Trevor had disappeared. There was no faking the love that he had for her.

As much as Trevor didn't agree with her staying to work the case, he knew she was going stir crazy staying in the house. He just nodded. "Okay. Let me know when you're on your way home."

Cragen stepped in before Olivia could say anything. "You are not working this case, Olivia."

"I cannot stay in the house any longer, Capt." It had been almost two months since Olivia actually was on a case and she didn't know how much more of sitting home she could take. "David's case isn't the only one we're working on. Can't you assign me to those?"

"You're a vic. You can't be anywhere near this place until David's case is closed. If you want to take home some paperwork or small cases, fine. But you can't be in the precinct." He felt for her, but the last thing he needed was extra eyes on his squad while this investigation was going on.

Before Olivia could reply, Tucker and Cutter walked out of the interrogation room. "We have decided to clear the squad and Trevor as suspects. We would like you to turn over all of your findings to the DA and we will continue the investigation, independently." Cutter stated.

Trevor couldn't hide the smile on his face. He knew he got in their heads. He was thankful that these two would be away from the squad and maybe everything could go back to normal for Olivia.

Cragen nodded. "Will do." He turned around and walked away letting out of a sigh of relief. He hated that he had to drag his squad through all of this, but he didn't regret having David killed. Hopefully, this was the end of David's case and everyone could go back to their normal lives.

Cutter directed his attention to Olivia. "Detective, you are able to start back work on Monday. That gives us time to fully close the investigation against you guys. We appreciate the corporation, and we will be in touch." He said before walking away.

Tucker waited until Cutter was out of earshot before he started talking. "I know someone in this squad either killed David or knows who did it; and once I find out who it is, all of you guys are going down." He stated before walking away. He knew this squad better than anyone and no other squad in the NYPD stuck together like the 16th precinct.

Before he could go, Trevor grabbed him by the arm and turned him around. "Hey, what you're not going to do is threaten Olivia and her squad in front of me. If you even think about trying to plant evidence or try to open another investigation, my coworkers and I will defend them pro bono. Do not test me." He said through gritted teeth. He had never been a fan of Ed, and his disdain was growing with every passing moment.

Tucker turned to fully look at Trevor and raised a brow. "Did you just threaten me?" The worst thing to happen to this squad was them becoming close with Trevor. If it did end up that the squad had anything to do with this, he was sure they would be able to get off scotch free with Trevor Langan on their side.

Trevor stepped closer and looked Tucker directly in the eyes. "No, that's a promise."

Tucker glanced at the lawyer before he angrily walked away. His gut was telling him that this squad was involved and he would not rest until he figured this case out.

Olivia knew Tucker well and knew this fight was far from over, but she was beyond grateful to have Trevor there defending her and most importantly, her squad. "You know he isn't going down without a fight?"

Trevor looked down at Olivia. "Yes, but no one is going to disrespect you in my presence. If he wants to fight, he just met his match." Trevor was frustrated that Olivia was being treated like a suspect first instead of the victim that she is. Someone she trusted and someone that worked for the city tried to have her killed and no one seemed to care.

Olivia could see the anger on Trevor's face and that this was getting to him. She had been so worried about herself that she never considered the toll this would take on him. She reached out and grabbed his hand. She offered him a small smile before she spoke. "Let's go home."

"Is there anything in particular you want for dinner?" Olivia asked Trevor as he sat at the dining room table helping Trent with his homework.

"Don't worry about dinner. I'll start on it when I finish helping Trent." He replied without even looking at her. As of lately, it was either him or his parents making dinner because they didn't want to add any extra stress to Olivia's plate.

"Trevor, don't be silly. You've been taking care of everything for the last few weeks. I got it." Olivia appreciated the fact that Trevor always wanted to cater to her, but she was still her own independent person.

Trevor finally looked up at her and based on her tone and body language, he knew that the conversation was over. "Well, we can have whatever the little guy is craving." He said while ruffling Trent's hair. He looked down at him. "What do you want Liv to make for us?"

Trent's eyes lit up hearing that he was able to pick dinner for tonight. "I want pizza!"

Olivia chuckled. If it was up to Trent, they would have pizza or chicken nuggets every night. "Maybe something that we already have here, bud."

Trent twisted his mouth a bit, disappointed in the fact that he couldn't have pizza. "Okay, let me see." He said before he got up from his chair and walked into the kitchen. "Well, maybe some rice and bacon and toast."

Both Trevor and Olivia laughed at his suggestion.

"Okay, so what if we switch out the rice for eggs and we have breakfast for dinner?" Olivia asked the little boy.

Trent's eyes widened and he gasped. "We can do that?" He always thought that you had to have breakfast in the morning.

Olivia smiled at his reaction. "Of course. Breakfast actually tastes better at night too."She said with a wink of the eye.

"Cool. Breakfast at night is going to be awesome!" He said in an excited tone before he ran back to the dining room table to finish his homework.

Olivia climbed into the bed and crawled into Trevor's side. "You know I love you."

Trevor smiled as he put his book down and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "And I love you." He was happy that Olivia was becoming more comfortable with being vulnerable around him.

"I want to thank you for being so supportive during everything. I honestly don't know where I would be without you." For the first time in her life, Olivia didn't have to go through a traumatic experience by herself and it felt great. She knows that she's been snappy and on edge, but she wanted Trevor to know how much she appreciated him.

"Don't thank me for doing what I'm supposed to be doing. I'm your partner and no matter how hard life gets, I'm here." He loved Olivia, more than he knew he was compatible of doing. He couldn't believe all it took was both of them having a bad case and ending up at the same bar to get them to this point.

"Yeah, I know, but you've been beyond patient with me, Trev while I figured out everything in my head."

"And I'll continue to do it." He stated with no hesitation.

Olivia looked up at him with a twinkle in her eyes. She was so in love with this man. She couldn't believe that the love of her life had been in her face this entire time. "I'm so happy with you and Trent." She felt her eyes start to swell up as she thought about the family that she finally had. The last couple of weeks had been hard on her, but everything faded to the background when she was with Trevor and Trent.

Trevor wiped a lone tear from her face before he closed the gap between them and kissed her softly. He was so overwhelmed with emotions that he could only show her how he was feeling at this moment with a kiss.

Olivia pulled away smiling, finally feeling a wave of peace for the first time in weeks. She hoped that the worst was behind them and that they could finally start to live their life together.

"Trevor provided one hell of a distraction for us, huh?" Fin asked as him and Cragen walked into the parking garage of the precinct.

Cragen, who was hoping that this was more than a distraction and that this would get Tucker and Cutter off of their backs completely just nodded. "Yeah."

Fin stopped in his tracks. "There's no way we can get caught, right?" He asked. While Fin wasn't afraid to go to prison for what happened, he knew Olivia wouldn't be able to handle it if him and Cragen were gone because they were protecting her.

Cragen looked off into the distance before he glanced back at Fin and responded. "For Olivia's sake, I hope not."
