Hey everyone,
this is just a little one-shot (although if you like it, tell me so, and it will be the prequel to the multi-chapter story I'm working on ;) ) As always, constructive comments and criticisms are most appreciated!

" 'Cause there we are again in the middle of the night, we're dancing 'round the kitchen in the refrigerator light" ~All Too Well, Taylor Swift
Beckett sat at her desk, her lamp burning through the gathering darkness of the Homicide Division. This case had been draining for everyone, especially her, and now she didn't even have her partner to lift her spirits. Both of them had been running flat out all week and Beckett could tell Castle needed a break, so she sent him home early, telling him she would be home within the hour and she wanted dinner hot, ready, and waiting when she walked in the door. That had been half an hour ago and she was ready to pack it in for the night. Everyone else had already left, except for herself and a few uniforms. She had even cut the boys loose over an hour ago.
Kate raised her head and looked around furtively. Seeing no one, she lost no time in gathering her files into some kind of order, shutting down her computer, and grabbing her jacket and purse. But before she left, there was something Kate had to do. And she couldn't do it with Castle around.
World famous mystery novelist Richard Castle was standing in his kitchen staring into his refrigerator without a useful thought in his head. He had lots of thoughts, but none that would help him figure out what to cook for Kate. They had been eating lots of take-out recently and Rick wanted to make her something completely different, something homemade. But nothing came.
He was still standing in the open refrigerator when he heard the sound of a key in the lock. He knew by the sound of heels on hardwood that it was Kate.
"Hey," he called. "Sorry I didn't get anything cooked. I couldn't figure out what to make and I didn't know what you'd want-"
"Rick," Kate said as her arms slid around his waist. Then, stretching up on her tiptoes so her mouth was level with his ear, she whispered, "I'm pregnant."
Castle turned and stared at her long enough for doubts to creep into her head. Maybe Rick didn't want another kid? But if he didn't, what could she do? A breathless "Castle" tumbled from her lips.
All of a sudden, Kate found herself lifted up in the air. Her arms were around Castle's neck and his arms pressed her close to his body as he spun her around. Castle set her down and kissed her passionately. Then, he broke away and gripped her hands almost painfully tight in his excitement.
"You really-Kate when did-We're actually-Is this really real?" Castle was so excited, he could scarcely string three words together and Kate giggled at his speechless state.
"I'm really pregnant, I found out today, we're actually having a baby, and it's really real," Kate smiled.
Castle spun her around again and then proceeded to dance her around the kitchen. The refrigerator was abandoned, but its icy light continued to cast its glow on the happy couple.
