Finale - Life As We Know It

Dark tried to throw Link off his fang but the man would not let go, he could feel it getting loose in his mouth and the more he shook the more pain screamed in his gum. Not that Link was helping; he was pulling the fang against his gum by pushing his legs against the roof of his mouth.

Link heard a crack and pushed hard against the fang almost driving it against his stomach and with one crunch against his knee; the fang flew like a sword into the wall. Dark screamed and shut his jaws around Link but the blood and the loss of his tongue was stopping him from swallowing the man. He felt Link push against his other fang but there was something round being pushed down his throat; Dark spat him out as Link lit a bomb in his hands

"Eww, snake drool!" Link taunted as he skidded across the floor on his backside, he drew his sword and dashed towards the crumbling pillar, Dark shifted his tail to reveal a sharp point on the end of the rattle, Link barely had time to draw his shield as the point slashed his left leg, nearly slicing it in two.

"I made an oath that I woud ki you, ink. That oath wi be competed today!" Dark shrieked, as Link crashed on the floor, Dark knocked his shield out of his hands and pushed his point against Link's sword as he lay on the floor, the blood oozing out of him like a river. His sword slipped and the point went straight through his chest.

He grimaced in shock as the point broke through the clothing on his back. His heartbeat raced as blood stained his tunic; his breath laboured to short, dying gasps. Dark twisted his tail to force the blade to turn over; Link let out a short wail in pain, not that he could do much more as his voice had trickled away with the blood.

"Ah-" Link groaned, his face covered in a full scowl. Dark shook him off his point and threw him against the wall.

Midna let out a shriek as she broke in through one of the windows; her feet housed within Link's iron boot's to break through the metal shutters that had blocked her entry.

"Link?! Talk to me!" Midna shouted in his face as he started to go cold, her hands being washed in his blood. She grasped his hand.

"It's alright…Midna." Link whispered pulling his hand out of hers with a smile.

"Link, please, no!" Midna yelled to her husband's cold body, Link's eyes were wide open and staring into nothing, the blood had stopped flowing and the light had stopped shining. Midna let tears escape from her cheeks "Dark, you will pay for this!" Midna growled turning to face the giant snake that was behind her

"My oath is compete. I am free. You can't hurt me!" Dark sighed shutting his eyes only to hear Midna pick up Link's sword and stab it in his chest, Dark let out a shriek as his blood stained the floor

"You killed my husband! You will wish for death when I'm finished with you!" Midna roared pulling the sword out and stabbing it again

"What is happening?" Dark wailed; worry filled his heart as he had not passed yet; he had fulfilled his oath, what was the problem?

Here, Daddy, I caught her in the spring…It's only fair I share my stuff too…

"The scheming waste of a man!" Dark shouted as a little pink ball of light rose from Link's chest, "Fairies can save the dead from their fate! No!"

Midna turned to see her husband in a crouch, the heat returning to his limbs and the strength coming back to him; he looked up with blue eyes again; the shimmering green light on his skin lost in time, his death had taken it. Midna threw his sword to the wall, letting him draw it for himself from the crack.

Dark knocked Midna out of the way so she landed on the floor in a roll, the iron boots scraping the floor as she rolled. Link had his sword focused behind Dark, the blade glowing orange. With a scream, Link was a blur in the Great Spin, cutting the remaining fang from the gum and slashing Dark blind as he charged forward to him.

"You will never darken my doorway again!" Link snarled lifting leaping into the air and striking the back of Dark's head with a stab with a Final Blow. Dark let out a roar that sent bricks toppling onto the floor.

The end of his tail raised in a last attempt to cut Link in two. Midna fought to pull the iron boots off her feet and threw one at his tail, knocking the point off and striking the wall just right of Link's body. Link panted and let go of the sword. Dark's body turned fiery red and little flickering flames started to spark from each red spot

"We have to leave now!" Midna shouted taking Link's hand and pulling him off Dark's body

Samuel covered Emily's ears as flames exploded in the windows like fireworks; Emily wrapped Clyde's hand in bandages

"We've got to go!" Samuel shouted over the noise as the towers rumbled as if they were made out of sticks; Daku materialised beside them.

"I agree with you there!" Daku mumbled picking Clyde up in his arms; Zephyr looked up at the castle as flames crept out through the bricks, pushing them out.

"Mother! Father!" Zephyr screamed as a few bricks rained down on them, Samuel pulled him back as the flag pole from the top of the tower made contact with the ground like a javelin

"They're safe." Daku mumbled "I found them and got them to a nearby house." Zephyr stared at Daku as Emily clambered onto his back, Zephyr was speechless for once.

Link pushed Midna into a wall as a chandelier creaked on the chains above them, bricks cracked the floor and stunning portraits rattled on their nails. Midna slammed the door shut as Link banged his fists against another door. Locked.

"Link!" Midna shouted running up to him, the flames were chewing on the red carpet underneath the door, Link brought Midna close and kissed her on the forehead before glancing around the room. They were trapped in a windowless, burning room with bolted doors on either side. "We're trapped!" Midna screamed hugging his shoulder. Link lowered his head

"I lost the crystal; it's in the main hall." Link sighed as the flames bit at his boot forcing him to turn his back, he wiped his face with the back of his hand

"This is how we die?" Midna sniffed

"N-no! I'll get us out!" Link shrieked glancing around the room, the chandelier creaked again. Link let out a cough as the room started to fill with dark smoke. He searched through his pouch and weighed his iron boots in his hand along with a new tool, the screwdriver, one he constantly carried thanks to his offspring constantly breaking his Clawshots. He handed the boots to Midna "Get them on the chandelier, I'll unscrew the doors."

"Link, that will take ages!" Midna whined, but one look at his face gave her the answer she did not want to find

"This is our only option." Link whispered, coughing a little more as he unscrewed a hinge, Midna trusted him and began to climb up the wall, her springy legs and acrobatics landed her on the chandelier quicker than she had thought. She glanced down, Link was shouldering the door having unscrewed the hinge, it wobbled slightly but the flame was pushing him further and further away from the door itself

The chandelier shuddered on its chain but not even her weight and the iron boots brought it down, she had no more magic, the Light Realm had drained her and Link knew that all too well. He shouldered the door again before collapsing on his knees, coughing.
He dipped a hand in his pouch again and brought out the heaviest thing he could carry; the Ball and Chain. He stepped back from the door, letting the flames bite at his boots as he swung it over and over above his head. He let it go with a roar up to the chandelier; it shook as the chain fought to keep it. Midna jumped to the ground as the chandelier crashed to the floor, shaking the doors from their hinges and opening up to the balcony above, they nodded to each other and ran out hand in hand, carefully climbing over the tiles of the roof.

Daku had barely any time to push the children behind the gravestones of the garden as the tower fell, dust and rubble covered the ground, Samuel hugged Emily as she screamed, her ears roaring in pain as the noise went right through her. Another explosion brought the next tower down.

"Daddy? Where are you?!" Emily screamed over the noise, a shield flew across the grass, stabbing into a tall gravestone that Zephyr, Clyde and Daku were hidden behind. Samuel and Emily gasped.

"Dad's shield!" Samuel hissed as the Link's sword nearly caught him on the foot as it landed in the ground

"Daddy's okay, right?" Emily wailed recognising the sword "He's going to find us with Mommy, right?"

"Yeah. I know it." Samuel whispered swallowing hard before seizing his necklace Link had given him for his third birthday, his teardrop caller "I will find out."

Link put a hand up to shield his eyes as a nearby tower went down, crushing the ground and everything on it in seconds, he went pale.

"The children are fine, Link. Daku has them." Midna mumbled brushing his hair out of his eyes to see his forlorn look. "Focus on saving yourself, just this once."

"You're hurt." Link whispered pointing at a cut on Midna's left arm

"Dark caught me with his tail, its fine." Midna mumbled covering it with her right hand, Link shook his head and wrapped his cap around it, Midna rolled his eyes, perhaps he had not heard.

If he heard…what would he do?

"You up for sledding?" Link asked with a smile on his face, Midna twisted hers, Link picked up the broken door from the balcony and held it up, Midna climbed onto his back as he got onto the tiles and slid down, his ears were twitching in Midna's direction, yet his eyes were focused on jumping from the tower before it came down. An explosion forced his ears to swing forward and to lose his control of the piece of door he hung onto.

Link crashed to the ground with a groan trying to shield Midna from the blow, he was knocked clean out as the remainder of the wobbling tower collapsed. Midna placed her hands over Link's face as rubble and stone was showered on them.

"Dad? Hello?" a voice asked, Midna withdrew the necklace from inside Link's tunic

"It's alright, Sam, we're okay." Midna whispered hugging the necklace

"Mommy! We saw the tower fall!" Emily's voice chorused

"Link, get up!" Midna moaned bringing Link to his feet, he was still in a daze as he pressed a hand against Midna's stomach

Secret is out.

"You did all this…" Link breathed

"Tell me off later." Midna sighed; Link struggled to get to his feet. He winced as his right leg could take no pressure.

Flames were still climbing the castle as they left for the town, battered, bruised and broken.

But alive.

Emily held Link's hand as they slipped into a nearby house that Daku had broken into a little while beforehand.

"Legs aren't meant to bend that way." Daku gasped as Link sat down, his face red with pain.

"Nope." Link grimaced; Emily made the same face as Link's knee made an audible crack

"Where are my parents, body guard?" Zephyr growled tugging at Daku's tunic

"He's my uncle Daku; he's not my body guard!" Emily snarled pouncing on him. Daku gave a beaming smile and a frown at the same time

"Emily…down." Link ordered through his gasps as Daku set the bones in his leg

"Clyde's awake!" Samuel shouted dashing in

"Where's your…Mom?" Link asked

"Squeezing all the air out of his lungs." Samuel chortled "I beat him in a fair fight, Dad!"

"I'm very…proud of you…all of you." Link smiled as Daku offered him some red potion for the pain.

"We did it!" Emily shouted wrapping her arms around Zephyr's neck "Eat floor, spoiled brat!"

"Zephyr?" a quiet voice asked as the door opened

"Mother!" Zephyr shouted, his voice muffled by the floor

"My darling boy!" Zelda cried opening her arms. Emily rolled off him.

"Mother! Are you alright?" Zephyr wailed, crying into his mother's shoulder

"Yes. I am much better." Zelda whispered, glancing at Emily.

"Hello, Zelda." Daku spoke, mimicking Link's posh voice as best he could

"Good evening, Link." Zelda replied "When did that happen, were you always that pale?"

Daku burst into laughter as Link sat up from the bench he laid on "I'm Daku. Link's over there."

"You saved my kingdom again, Link." Zelda smirked "Or should I say; thank you ever so much for your assistance, Sire."

"S-Sire?! I'm getting my butt kicked by a princess?!" Zephyr squealed, Emily turned bright red and threw her hat down

"Start running." Daku giggled as Zephyr was chased outside

"Your family continues to grow." Zelda mumbled sitting by Link as he rubbed his leg "You have more heirs each time I see you."

"They are not just heirs!" Link snapped swallowing the potion wrong to make him cough "They are my children. My sons and daughter. Or should I say sons and daughters?"

"I knew you could tell!" Midna shouted from another room

"When the time comes, I shall divide the kingdom up between them." Link sighed; talking about the future in such a way made him a little upset. Though he knew he could not rule forever, he feared the children would fight with one another if he was not around. Daku put a hand on his shoulder and gave a shallow nod

"Don't worry about that just yet." Daku whispered just loud enough for him to hear. "You have many decades left on that chair."

Link could do nothing but smile.

Link bounced a gurgling baby on his knee; the little girl squealed and clapped her hands in delight as a snowball hit her father in the face. He spat out snow and rubbed noses with his now youngest daughter, she had large red eyes like her mother and short stubby ears, her skin was pale like Link's and her voice was loud and sharp from the second she was born, unlike the others, this one had caught them by surprise or more him by surprise.

"WOLFIE BOY!" Yeto shouted lifting a snowball the size of himself up above his head "CATCH!"

"I don't want to catch it!" Link laughed slipping the baby into a little carrier on his back and dodging the avalanche starter as it crashed into the snow; Link made a small snowball in his hands and threw it back at Yeto as another snowball smacked him in the back of the head, covering the little girl in snow

"Got you, Daddy!" Emily shouted as Link threw a snowball her direction

"Gangway! Racing!" Clyde roared as Yeta slid down the mountain on her stomach like a penguin followed closely by a smaller vision of herself and Link's sons on ice boards knocked down from the tree at the top of the mountain.

Emily and Yeto turned on them throwing snowballs like a snow storm; Midna appeared next to Link amongst the chaos, holding a snowball in her hand

"So, is this anything how you pictured your life then?" Midna asked, rubbing her shoulders, Link glanced over his shoulder as the snowball smacked him in the face, turning his skin red.

"No." Link said with a smile bringing Midna close for a kiss "It's much better."

I imagine you are wondering what became of the Twili Kingdom that Link and Midna ruled? Link was true to his word. Splitting his kingdom into four, the north, south, east and west.

Clyde, the one of battle, took the north. He married Daisy and had two beautiful daughters, by the names of Shell and Rose; after two wonderful women in their grandfather's life.

Samuel, the one of wisdom, took the east. Marrying a Hylian by the name of Eliza and had a son and a daughter; named after their godparents of Peony and Ralph.

Emily, the curious one, took the west. Ruling her kingdom alone with her foster Hylian son, Rinku, named by her father.

And finally, Jessica, the just one, took the south. Marrying a Twili solider, by the name of Alec, she had twin sons by the name of Error and Bagu after the boy's being somewhat unexpected into their lives. Link was not sure of their names but treats them as well as
the other grandchildren.

The Middle Kingdom, or commonly known as the Parent Kingdom is still ruled to this day by Link and Midna. Their castle is a home for many, being a place where the poor may go for a bed and hot meal and ones that are being trained in a small academy to be great healers and teachers. Many swordsmen and women wander through the always open gates, getting taught by His Majesty himself.

That world was never the same after that. It was much, much better.
