Aragorn felt slightly guilty as he listened to the conversation on the radio, talking about the numerous illegal things that Sauron had done, which had been revealed due to a report by the Estella Bolger with the help of a couple of anonymous photos. He felt bad that he had helped to put a man in prison, but part of him felt good about helping to put a criminal where they belonged.
"Aragorn," Pippin said, waving his hand in front of his face. Aragorn blinked at the shorter man and realized that Pippin had to stand on his tiptoes just to reach his face. Aragorn smirked at him, while Pippin put his hands on his hips, "Are you going to serve Boromir or not? You're giving his dad a crappy first impression of you."
"Shut it," Aragorn said, shoving Pippin gently, "It's not like Boromir and I are engaged or anything, why should I care that his dad doesn't like me?"
"I don't know," Pippin said sarcastically, "Maybe because you two are friends?"
"Oh… yeah," Aragorn said, fighting to keep a smile from his face. Aragorn fixed up their drinks, and placing the baked goods that they had ordered onto the tray. Aragorn walked over to the table, where a grumpy, still wheel-chaired Boromir was sitting with his rather nervous looking brother, and his fidgety father.
"Took you long enough," Boromir grumbled, "I still get my employee discount, right?"
"Yes you do," Aragorn said, handing Boromir the coffee he had ordered. Faramir glared at his brother, and Aragorn began to feel a bit nervous. Boromir was not supposed to be having caffeine due to the fact that he was still on prescription drugs to help him recover, but Boromir had threatened to murder him with his chair if Aragorn didn't give him a coffee, and Aragorn was more scared of Boromir than he was of the English major that was Boromir's brother.
"Good," Boromir said, taking a sip of his coffee, "I missed this stuff."
Denethor shook his head and clicked his tongue in a disapproving manner as Faramir did the same. Aragorn found it incredibly eerie how the two of them were so similar, and inched away slowly back to the cash register.
The door of the café opened with a jingle, revealing Eowyn. Her bushy blonde hair was soaked with the rain, and she looked rather annoyed with the universe.
"Rough day?" Aragorn asked her.
"Rainy day," she responded, "I'd like a coffee, please. One cream, no sugar."
"For here or to go?"
"To go. I gotta see my uncle," she said, rummaging through her purse and pulling out some change. Aragorn readied her a coffee, accepted her money. He would never admit it to her, but Eowyn scared him; a lot. When he heard about her punching one of the Nazgul's, Aragorn immediately knew not to get on her bad side. Aragorn didn't understand how Faramir and her were so in love, but he supposed that opposites truly did attract.
"How's he doing?" Aragorn said, handing her a coffee.
"Much better," Eowyn said, sipping her coffee. "Thanks for asking. Anyways, I have to go brave the elements now. Too bad you can't punch rainclouds in the face. See ya."
Aragorn nodded at her in response, but a hand flew up near the door. Aragorn groaned as he went to go serve them; the couple-y couple. He went over to ask their order, and was having a hard time finding where one person started, and the other person finished.
Going back to the counter, feeling like he had just experienced some emotional damage, Aragorn turned to Pippin, "If Arwen and I ever get like that, slap me. Please."
"Gladly," Pippin said, not looking up from the tea he was steeping. Aragorn was concerned at the gleeful tone Pippin had adopted, but his thoughts were interrupted by Legolas bursting through the bakery doors with trays of cookies in his hands.
Aragorn personally thought that Legolas was a bit too happy about Sauron's downfall, but Aragorn didn't let the environmental student know. Legolas had worked the hardest out of all of them on this project, and even though Sam and Frodo were the only successful ones during their break and enter of Mount Doom Industries, Legolas had been the backbone of the whole group.
It seemed, however, the scary, possibly mafia related Legolas had disappeared, and had been replaced with the happy-go-lucky Legolas who baked excessively for just a little over minimal wage.
"What a nice day," Legolas commented, as he scraped the cookies into their respective places.
"It's pouring," Pippin pointed out, and Legolas glared at him. Pippin flinched back, before the door jingled again. Pippin, eager for a distraction, turned to see the customer, and then immediately flushed deep red.
Aragorn sniggered under his breath as the Caffeine Girl quietly walked over to a seat and sat down. Her hand didn't even go in the air by the time Pippin was there next to her. Aragorn walked by him with his tray of food and drinks, and nudged Pippin a little, a smug smirk on his face.
Though Aragorn did not appreciate the snide comments about him and Arwen before they were dating, Aragorn was certainly not above making them to Pippin. It felt like it was revenge... now if only Gimli would get a significant other, then it would all be perfect for him.
When he got back behind the counter, Pippin was there, his head down. He seemed extremely concentrated on making coffee. Aragorn, however, knew that Pippin was hoping to avoid Aragorn's gaze.
"I hear there's a good movie on right now," Aragorn said, nonchalantly, "It has Legolas's dad in it. It's about Guardians and Galaxies, I think."
"That's a super plot summary, Aragorn, thank you," Pippin retorted sarcastically.
"What I mean is, ask Diamond out to it," Aragorn told him.
"I don't like her that way," Pippin said, far to quickly. He seemed to have realized that he had done so himself, as he hurried off to go serve Diamond. He didn't come back for a while, he seemed to be more focused on cleaning tables that had been long empty and long cleaned.
Aragorn sighed. There was really nothing else to do in the café, as rainy days were, and always had been, incredibly slow going for business. Aragorn leaned on the counter he supposed he could pretend to clean and looked at the customers.
Boromir and his brother were in some argument about a piece of literature. Boromir seemed to have insulted it, and Faramir was defending it with his life. Denethor sat there, sipping his coffee and adding points to Faramir's side occasionally. Aragorn hadn't even heard of the book or poem or whatever, but it was quite clear that Boromir was losing this argument epically.
Apart from the Stewart family, the customers were quiet. The only sound coming from the mass typing on laptops, the clinking of mugs, and the horrible slurps of coffee from people who didn't know how to properly drink or were far to tired to care.
Aragorn had no idea how long he had been zoning out when the bell on the door rang again.
"Look, it's the Regular," Pippin said, "But I guess she's more a regular to your bed now."
Aragorn blushed, slapped Pippin on the shoulder sharply, before he walked over to the cash register to wait on Arwen.
She smiled at him as she bent down to see what food they had available that day. "Oh, you have pumpkin muffins. I'll take one, please."
Aragorn nodded, "Would you like a coffee too?"
Arwen pursed her lips, "Sure. The regular way, please."
"Of course," Aragorn said, handing her the muffin she ordered and going back to make her coffee. Pippin was coughing horrible innuendos as he worked the espresso machine, and Aragorn did his best to ignore them as he finished up.
He handed Arwen her coffee, and Arwen handed him some coins to pay for it. Aragorn rang her through the register, and expected her to leave. Arwen hung around, though, staring at the customers in the store.
"Slow day, huh?" Arwen commented, leaning on the counter.
"It's always slow when it rains," Aragorn told her.
"That's strange, you would think more people would want a coffee when it rains," Arwen said. "This place is a long walk from the dorms, though… and people are usually too cheap to buy umbrellas."
Aragorn nodded in agreement, wiping the counter to make it seem like he was actually doing something.
"Want to go see that new movie out?" Arwen asked.
"Which one?"
"The one with Legolas's dad."
"Sure."
"Good, because I already bought tickets," Arwen said, a smirk on her face. She handed him his ticket, one that she had obviously printed out from the internet. "It's at eight tonight. Don't be late."
"I won't be," Aragorn said.
"I best be off then," Arwen sighed, checking her watch. "Have fun doing nothing."
"I'll try."
With that, Arwen left, leaving Aragorn considerably more bored. Pippin was over, washing a table near Diamond, talking quietly to her. Boromir had been destroyed by his father and brother in the argument, and was currently crossing his arms, refusing to speak to them.
Aragorn walked over, "Can I help you?"
"It's fine," Faramir said, waving his hand and standing up, "We best be off. Boromir's getting grumpy."
"I am not," Boromir protested as Faramir walked around to wheel him out. Aragorn personally thought that Boromir was looking like a massive grump as he was wheeled out, but knew that saying so would most likely end up with his body in a dumpster.
Aragorn tidied up their station, and then went back to pretending to clean the counter. Pippin walked by, holding what seemed to be a massive tip in his hand.
"She tipped you well," Aragorn said, looking at the ten-dollar bill the younger man was currently holding.
Pippin grinned, "She always tips me well."
Aragorn made a small, disgruntled noise, "Then stop pretending that you don't like it when she comes into the store. It's embarrassing for you and everybody else on staff."
"Shuddap," Pippin said, stuffing the money into his pocket. "My shift's up anyways. I gotta go. Frodo should be here soon… hopefully."
Aragorn sighed as Pippin escaped through the STAFF ONLY door, wishing that he could go with him.
As the café was now nearly empty, Aragorn decided that the remainder of his shift would best be spent watching the rain drearily drip down the large windows of the Fellowship's Café.
