Of Weddings and Chance Meetings

Chapter 10

"That was, um, cool." Sebastian stumbled trying to find the right words. He couldn't help but think that cool wasn't the right word to describe what he had just witnessed. Jim playing the piano had to be one of the most spectacular things that he had ever seen. The way his fingers raced across the keys, jumping about, was both astounding and envious. The concentration showing on his face was thrilling and the way he slightly closed his eyes in bliss while still playing raised the hairs on the back of Sebastian's neck. He was extraordinary and breathtaking and dare Seb say it, a little sexy.

'God, I'm such a horny teenager!' Seb just couldn't help but think, but it was true, Jim just did something to him, awoke something within him. He could feel the mixture of feelings bubbling away inside of him, getting ready to boil over.

"Really?" Jim asked, almost nonchalantly which was weird for Jim, "You think so?"

"Of course, it was amazing," Seb replied. All he got back was a quick look from Jim and then he went back to leaning against the wall.

"Can I ask you a something?" Sebastian questioned, rubbing the back of his neck nervously.

"You just did," Jim answered smugly.

"That's not what I meant."

"Fine, do continue."

"It's probably nothing but, I just wanted to know why you played that bit from the Muse song." Seb asked looking down at his feet.

"I can't say that I know what you mean dear Sebastian; the only music that I played was Chopin."

"Don't act stupid with me Jim," He accused, the nervousness slipping away and starting to be replaced with anger," I knew exactly what you were playing. Chopin's nocturne op.9 no.2, the piece of music used in Muse's United States of Eurasia. I just thought that you might have played it for a reason, maybe even, for me. Listen Jim, I like you, I really do and I probably sound really stupid and soppy for saying this but I thought that you liked me too. I guess I was wrong on that account and now you probably think I'm really weird and you won't want to be friends with me anymore. I'll just go now before I embarrass myself more," finished Sebastian, turning around to leave.

"You... you knew that it was op.9 no.2?" Jim asked neither angry nor annoyed, more surprised.

"Of course," Seb replied turning back around, his tone soft and voice slightly wavering, "You love Chopin. After that lesson we spent together in art I went home and listened to him and then I found that piece of music and I just couldn't stop grinning. I'm not so much a fan of him but you are and that's why I like him. I see the passion you put into your playing and how much it means to you. His music makes me happy because I know that he makes you happy, ecstatic even."

"Really, that's how you feel," Jim inquired as his voice cracked and the expertly crafted mask that he wore started to slip away.

"Yes." At this Jim smiled, a genuine smile and it made Sebastian's stomach flutter and his heart melt just a little.

"Dance with me?"

"I'm sorry, what?" Seb asked not quite sure that he had heard right.

"God Sebby, I said dance with me." This time it came out as more of a command than as a question, like it was phrased last time he asked.

"Why?"

"Why not?" This came out slightly more forceful then Jim had intended.

"Oh, I don't know, people might see, I wouldn't have thought that you would want that, not with your parent's and the rest of your family here."

"I don't care if they see, I don't care if they look, and I don't care if they know," Jim grabbed hold of Sebastian's arms, pulling him closer, while he explained, "Plus Sarah is dancing with my other brother, David, which means she's going to want to dance with me next and I could do with the extra practice." He finished off with another small genuine smile, as if he wasn't quite sure how Sebastian would react to what he was saying, but these thoughts were quickly pushed away, the confidence returning.

Seb couldn't help but give a little laugh as the memories of him teaching Jim to dance flooded back to him; the image of Jim beneath him staining his cheeks a rosy pink. "I can agree with that, I swear you spent half our time practising tripping up over your own feet."

Jim punched Seb hard in the arm but he knew that this was Jim's version of friendly and proceeded to take Jim into his arms. He took the lead once again, wrapping his arms around Jim's thin waist while Jim placed his own around Sebastian's neck. They twirled together in the rooms darkened corner, the soft sounds of Elvis Presley's 'I can't help falling in love with you' played along in the background. Jim made a few mistakes as they began but after Seb's explanation of what he was doing wrong he soon picked up the right steps. They were spinning effortlessly, the thought that they could do this for the rest of their lives running through their heads.

Sebastian could feel his heart swelling up and the butterflies returning to his stomach; he could do this forever. He spent a few moments looking around them to see if anyone was watching them but soon the feeling of euphoria took him over. This was what he had been waiting for his whole life. He needed this. The feel of Jim's smooth soft hands against his own callous ones. The hot trickle of breathe against his neck. The warm body resting comfortably against his own. This was what he needed to make him feel whole; this was what he wanted so dearly. He would never let Jim go; he would keep him in his life and do anything he asked as long as he was with him. Jim was all he needed and all he would ever need. Jim awoke the most vibrant feelings within him and he knew that such violent passions as these could only end violently themselves, but, he was willing to forgo such dreary thoughts if the prospect of being with Jim for eternity would be the cause of his end. He had to tell Jim how he felt; he had to make Jim want to stay with him.

'Take my hand, take my whole life too. For I can't help falling in love with you. No, I can't help falling in love with you.'

"You know," Sebastian contently sighed trying to hide his nervousness over what he was about to confess, "I think I might just be falling in-"

"No, don't say it," this however he had not expected, "if you do that would make this real, for it should be a dream, Sebastian. A never-ending dream. To say those words and wake up would be to kill it. The world is a horrible, dirty place where as this; this is so much better, don't let me ever wake up."

Sebastian gave a small contented sigh but a slight sorrow could still be found in his voice as he answered Jim,

"Never"
