Hello, sorry about how late this update is. I moved and got a new more stressful job so I've been pretty busy and exhausted. Thanks for anyone who reviewed, followed, or favorited, you are all so wonderful. Here is chapter 11. I hope you enjoy.
Jane lay on the couch staring at the ceiling, unable to fall back asleep not only from the dream she had, but from her encounter with Maura as well. It had been a while since Jane had been with anyone and she was a bit flustered and completely caught off guard. She was definitely turned on by Maura's prowess, yet intimidated at the same time. She kept replaying their interactions and more questions arose. Was Maura loopy from the pain medication? What would have happened if Cailin didn't interrupt them? How could such a petite woman be so strong?
Jane was still awake as the sun peeked through the curtains, shortly after, she heard two sets of rapid foot steps coming down the steps. She pretended to be asleep as she heard Cailin say good-bye to her gentleman friend. The good-bye seemed forever filled with kissing sounds and Cailin giggling. When the door finally closed, Cailin walked over to the couch and sat by Jane's feet.
"You can open your eyes now, I can tell that your faking it."
Jane opened her eyes and yawned.
"Bet you didn't have to fake anything last night," Cailin continued, winking at Jane.
"Nothing happened," Jane replied obviously embarrassed.
"Didn't look like nothing."
"Well what about you?" Jane regretted asking the moment the words came out of her mouth. Just as Cailin was about to reply Jane put up her hands and shook her head. "Never mind I don't want to know."
"Suit yourself, I'm just glad at least one of us is getting so-"
Jane covered her ears. "Cailin that's enough!"
Cailin shrugged, "Just sayin."
Jane rolled her eyes and got up, "I'm going to go check on Juls, will you make some coffee?"
"Definetly, I'm gonna need it too, I got like no sleep last night."
"Why is that?"
The presence of Hope's voice startled both Jane and Cailin.
"Yeah Cailin, why were you up all night," Jane asked teasingly
"Studying of course, organic chemistry exam on Monday," Cailin replied quickly, already well versed in covering her ass.
Hope hugged her daughter and kissed her on top of the head. "That's my girl."
"If you only knew what she was doing last night." Jane thought to herself.
As Hope watched Jane head for the steps, she stopped her. "I checked on Julianna two hours ago, she said her leg hurt, I gave her some more pain medication, she'll be out for a few more hours."
"Maybe she is going to check on someone else," Cailin said, giving Jane a look.
"Oh yeah, I forgot," Jane replied playing dumb, "how is she?"
Hope honestly had no idea, she only checked on Maura once that night and she was asleep. Hope wasn't sure what her plan was yet regarding her new daughter/house guest, all she did know was that she wanted Maura with her and away from Paddy. "I gave her some pretty heavy stuff, she's probably been out this whole time."
Jane frowned slightly and thought, "then maybe it was just the meds." Followed by, "well at least we didn't really do anything."
The three women made breakfast together, each assuming a different responsibility.
Meanwhile, Maura groggily awoke in one of the guest rooms. She looked around and knew that she was not at home, she assumed that she had gotten drunk last night and stayed at a hotel. As she lay back down to sleep she noticed a picture on the bedside table of a familiar looking woman and a girl in a cap and gown who looked like her daughter. The previous days events started to come back in pieces. Maura knew from the bracelet around her wrist that she had spent some time in the hospital. She remembered being involved in some type of car accident.
"This woman," Maura thought to herself, "she was the doctor from the hospital, but why am I staying with her?"
Maura didn't know what she had told the doctor, but she figured it was best if she left, her last few days had been very disorienting and she needed to get back on track. She gathered her belongings, she needed to use a phone to call for a cab after ditching her own phone when staging her kidnapping.
Maura walked down the steps which lead to the kitchen. She saw the woman in the picture, the doctor from yesterday, standing at the stove. She also saw the younger woman from the picture putting bread in the toaster.
"Okay, thank them, borrow the phone, call a cab, give them some money, and then leave," she thought to herself.
Maura didn't even realize Jane was there until she emerged from behind the refrigerator door, triggering her memory of last night's events. She decided to stay for the time being and see/control how things unfold.
Jane froze for a second and looked at Maura wondering if she remembered their encounter, hoping that she wouldn't say anything. She walked to the island to use the cutting board.
"Good morning," Hope said nervously. "How did you sleep?"
Maura took a second to respond, briefly distracted by the detective. She narrowed her eyes and smiled at Jane, then responded to Hope without breaking eye contact with the detective. "I slept like a log." She walked to the island and stood next to Jane. Jane took a deep breath in an attempt to calm her pounding heart and tried to focus on cutting the fruit.
"Nice melons, can I help," Maura asked with a smirk.
"Uh... No I'm fine, thanks," Jane responded unable to look at Maura now that she knew that Maura remembered last night.
"Okay," Maura knew she was making Jane uncomfortable and wanted to have some fun with it. In one quick motion, she put her hand on the small of Jane's back, then slid her hand under Jane's boxers and cupped her ass. This surprise caused Jane jump slightly and she nicked her finger with the knife. "Dammit," Jane shouted, which got the attention of both Hope an Cailin. Maura immediately removed her hand.
"Is it deep," Hope asked.
"No, it's not so bad."
"Run it under cold water," Hope instructed, turning on the faucet. "Cailin, honey, will you take over for me?" Hope walked over to Jane, "Let me see."
Jane showed Hope her index finger.
"Right underneath the nail, ouch!" Hope touched the area lightly.
"Ow!" Jane pulled her hand back and shook it trying to alleviate the pain. "If you knew it hurt, why would you touch it?"
Hope rolled her eyes. "Oh don't be such a baby." She walked over to her first aide drawer to get a bandage and some antibacterial ointment. Her phone rang as she walked back over to Jane. She answered, "Martin, oh hi, Susie."
Jane through up her arms in frustration. "Hello, you've got a live patient here."
Hope put her index finger up to her lips, silently shushing Jane.
"Can you believe this?" Jane was now making grand gestures with her arms
displaying her annoyance, while trying to get the attention of Cailin, who was too busy cooking, and Maura who had already poured herself a cup of coffee and was now flipping through a magazine. By this point Hope had already walked into the hallway so she could hear the call better.
Jane sighed, reached for a bandage, and struggled to open it because she could only use the one hand. Maura, fed up with watching the detective, walked over and took the bandage out of Jane's hands and opened it. "You should really be more careful with knives you know," she said as she put the ointment and the bandage on Jane's finger.
"Well, I guess I was startled by something, or someone."
"I have no idea what you are talking about," Maura replied as she walked over to the cutting board to finish Jane's task. Maura was truly a master with a knife slicing each fruit in a perfectly uniform fashion rather quickly. Jane watched practically hypnotized. "Are you a chef or something?"
Maura laughed. "No just an adult, who knows how to use a knife properly." She handed Jane a piece of honey dew on the edge of the knife.
Jane smirked as she grabbed the honey dew and ate it. She liked Maura's smart comments, even if they were rather bitchy.
Hope entered the kitchen. "That was Susie she says she's got something for us."
"Oh yeah, what's that's," Jane responded with a full mouth.
"I don't know, she's always so vague, I'm going to go get ready." Although Hope didn't really want to leave she figured that if she went into work, she'd have time to think about what to do about the whole "new daughter" situation. Working was always able to clear her head. "Cailin can you keep an eye on everyone until lunch, Jane and I should be home around then."
"No problem, mom"
"I have to go too? ...but it's supposed to be my day off," Jane interjected.
"She said it was important, now let's go."
The two got ready and left leaving Cailin alone to keep an eye on Julianna and Maura.
I hope you enjoyed and as always reviews are welcome.
Be well and have a splendid day.
