Chapter 7: Intermission
"All round one elimination matches have been completed, spectators and participants are free to move around and talk at their leisure. In 5 minutes we will cover all matches so far. In 10 minutes we will announce all contestant's Pokémon for the tournament. In 20 minutes we will announce upcoming matches. In 30 minutes, the tournament will continue."
The Pokédex holders all converged at one spot off stage.
"Tough break Gold" Red empathised.
"Yeah, it looked like you were gonna win, great comeback Silver." Crystal noted.
Silver walked over to Green, "too bad you didn't make the cut." "Yeah, well, I at least get some kind of reward for defeating at least one opponent… right?" … There was an awkward silence. "Is material possession the only thing that matters to you?" Red inquired. "And that's not even true," Emerald interrupted, "you have to win the competition to get any battle points at all." The conversation was interrupted by the speaker. "Announcing matches so far:
Match #1 Blue VS Ruby - Winner-Blue; Victory condition, Scyther's Fury Cutter K.O'd Marshtomp."
Match #2 Green VS Crystal - Winner-Green; Victory condition, Granbull's Take-Down K.O'd Hitmonlee. Match #3 Red VS Green - Winner-Red; Victory condition, Granbull's recoil damage from a Take-Down against Snorlax using harden.
Match #4 Emerald VS Yellow - Winner-Emerald; Victory condition, Sudowoodo's Rock Slide K.O'd Butterfree. Match #5 Gold VS Sapphire - Winner-Gold; Victory Condition, Sudowoodo and Blaziken K.O'd each other, being the only contestant with a usable Pokémon remaining, Gold wins.
Match #6 Gold VS Silver - Winner-Silver; Victory condition, Typhlosion collapsed from exhaustion after letting loose the powerful Blast Burn attack, which bounced uselessly off Sneasel's Protect."
"Don't remind me" Gold stated glumly.
"At least both your Pokémon weren't defeated by only one of his, like you did to me." Sapphire consoled in a somewhat annoyed voice.
"Actually, that's untrue," Blue pointed out; "while it is true that he defeated Feraligatr, it's also true Silver's Sneasel defeated both his Pokémon single-handedly.
"Besides Gold, if anyone has the right to whine about their loss, it's Yellow," Crystal snapped. "Sorry Yellow, but don't feel bad, you were facing Emerald, the most likely to win."
"EXCUSE ME!?" Red and Blue exclaimed in synchronisation. Crystal was taken aback, as she tried to think of a way out, she was saved by the bell.
"Ladies and Gentleman, now announcing the Pokémon each trainer brought in to this competition:
Red – Pika, Lax, Saur.
Blue – Charizard, Scizor, Porygon 2.
Green – Granbull, Nido, Blasty.
Yellow – Ratty, Kitty, Chuchu.
Gold – Sudobo, Sunbo, Exbo.
Silver – Feraligatr, Sneasel, Murkrow.
Crystal – Megaree, Monlee, Xatee.
Ruby – Mimi, Zuzu, Ruru.
Sapphire - Rono, Toro, Pilo.
Emerald – Sudowoodo, Sceptile, Dusclops.
"Don't think you can get out of this that easily" Red began.
"I think it's oblivious who the winner will be today." Blue continued.
"He has a point crystal," Gold pointed out and walked over to Blue, "definitely not you."
He turned to red, "feel better now sweet cheeks?" There was a long awkward silence, lasting long enough for the 20 minute mark.
"Now announcing future matches.
Match #7 Blue VS Red.
Match #8 Emerald VS Silver.
After these Semi-Final matches have been completed, the contestants who win will face each other in the finals, to be held after a 10 minute hiatus."
"It's nearly time to get back out there, we should go get ready" Emerald thought aloud.
"Agreed." The four remaining contestants dispersed, leaving the losers in a cloud of confusion. …..
"So Gold, you think Emerald will win to, huh?"
Gold gave her a wide grin, "nope, I reckon Red will." Crystal was too baffled to continue, so green revived the subject. "I wouldn't be so smug if I were you; after all, you're the only guy to be eliminated yet."
"What about me?" Ruby demanded to know.
"I said GUY, sorry if I was unclear." Ruby opened his mouth as if he was about to object, but closed it when he couldn't think of anything.
The speaker ran across the stadium, "Contestants, please take your positions side stage in preparation for the upcoming matches."
What little time remained passed quickly, and before long, it was time for the semi-finals.
