Once he grabbed a plastic bag, Naruto strolled back to Hinata. As he approached her, he caught her soft smile while she gazed at a tomato in her hand.
Lifting an eyebrow, he asked her, "Something funny?"
She looked at him swiftly before taking the bag he was holding out and turning back to the array of tomatoes in front of her. Picking some and placing them in the bag, she shook her head. "No," she said softly.
The visit to the grocery store was meant to be quick but, instead, it ended up taking much longer because Hinata couldn't decide as to what foods might best help a headache. By the time they packed all the grocery bags in Naruto's car, Naruto checked his watch and found they had spent two hours.
After Hinata entered the passenger side, he looked at her and decided to take the opportunity.
"How about dessert before dinner?" he grinned mischievously.
Meeting his eyes with hers, she initially didn't realize what he meant. But then he wriggled his eyebrows, and she realized what he was asking of her.
It's what she was here for, right? But for some reason, she was in no mood whatsoever to push away her usual reluctance and do her job. Sasuke was sitting at home in pain. They should return so that she could make dinner to ease his discomfort.
At her silence, Naruto for once took the hint. He looked at her through squinted eyelids and leaned into her space, his close proximity causing her to lean away in turn.
"You don't want to, huh?" he said. "You're trying to figure out how to avoid me, aren't you?"
Her eyes widened. "I—I'm sorry?"
"Think about it! You'd rather fuck Sasuke. You've only been fucking him anyway." He leaned back. "You like him better, don't you?"
Hinata didn't know what to say. Was she unconsciously avoiding Naruto? Did she really favor Sasuke? Recollecting her moments with the dark-haired, brooding man, she realized why Naruto would come to such a conclusion.
She catered to Sasuke, wanted to please him, and always searched for his approval. There were moments where he was nice despite his tough exterior, to which it made her happy. And he's all she's been thinking about these past couple hours.
It had to be true. She liked Sasuke.
But… only as a client. Nothing more. That's all he would ever be anyway, for the time being…
Because she was deep in thought, she didn't notice when Naruto sat back in his seat and mumbled to the driving wheel, "They always do." He looked at her again, and seeing her far away stare, he waved a hand in front of her face. "Earth to Hinata. You there?"
She flinched. Catching his eyes, she said, "Yes?"
He sighed. "Let's go home," he told her, as he started the car and left the parking lot.
Did she disappoint him? For some reason, she felt bad. She apologized.
"For what?" he said with a grin, as if nothing happened. "So you like the bastard. I get it. I really liked your friend that one night, too. Till she took my money." He chuckled.
Naruto was a good person, she could tell. Constantly with a smile on his face, he always seemed optimistic, hopeful. He was a ray of sunshine and she admired him for that. In thinking this, it made her feel guiltier that she had yet to give him what he had asked for.
But… sex was her career, her lifestyle. She had too much of it and she didn't want to. For once, she just wanted to tell someone no when they asked. It seemed Naruto was whom she was telling it to. Just for right now anyway.
To make it up to him, she resolved to make his favorite dish for dinner.
It would be a lie if Sasuke said he could care less about leaving Naruto alone with Hinata. It wouldn't be a lie if he admitted he couldn't stop wondering why the hell they were taking so long to get back. Would Naruto ask her to fuck him in his car? Before? After they finished shopping?
Damn it. His head hurt like hell.
Initially, he hoped to see if he could get work done what with the peace and quite. In the end, he was sprawled on the couch, pinching the bridge of his nose, waiting for the stupid migraine to pass.
At the sound of keys entering the keyhole, he immediately sat up and turned on the television. Naruto walked through the door before Hinata did, both of them holding groceries.
"You're really into the Housewives, eh Sasuke?" Naruto said when he caught a glimpse of the television screen.
Sasuke swiftly turned off the television. Stupid shows, he thought, as he stood up, intending to head into the kitchen where Hinata and Naruto were emptying the grocery bags.
Bad choice.
Having raised himself too quickly, he got a head rush, which made him stagger. A moment later, delicate hands helped steady him, one around his waist and the other on his chest.
"Are you alright?" he heard Hinata say with concern as his dizziness dissipated.
He rested his hand on her shoulder and looked at her. Attempting to save face, he said, "What took you so long?"
As if she knew he was suspicious, she told him, "Nothing. I just—we…"
Since she was tripping over her words, Naruto answered for her, "Hey, it was rush hour. Plus, the line was long and before that, Hinata kept looking at every ingredient labeled on the packages."
Yes, she was thankful he spoke for her.
"Oh, we also fucked."
Or not. "No!" she said. "We—We didn't…"
Sasuke stared hard at Naruto, holding back from glaring.
Naruto laughed in response. Waving him off, he said, "Nah, she promised after dinner."
Hinata looked at him. Sasuke looked at her.
Naruto looked at the both of them, a smile still evident on his features. Then he gestured to the groceries on the table. "What does it matter anyway? We're back now and we brought food!" As if on cue, his stomach growled loud enough for everyone to hear. "Hinata," he whined, holding his stomach. "I'm starving."
Sasuke leaned away from her, allowing her to go. Hinata then quietly went to the kitchen to prepare dinner. It would be ramen, Naruto's favorite.
As she made the meal, she contemplated what Naruto had said, wondering if he was serious. Were they really going to have sex after dinner? It was something she would have to do if he really decided upon it. After all, she was in no position to reject him, especially a second time.
It seemed he was serious, when—after dinner, which he ate swiftly and enthusiastically—Naruto unnecessarily announced to Sasuke, "Now, if you'll excuse us, Hinata and I will go have sex."
As he took her wrist and headed out of the kitchen, Hinata looked back at Sasuke, who was averting her eyes. She didn't see his fists clench.
Sasuke tried preoccupying himself during the first few minutes Hinata was in Naruto's room. But no matter what he did, he couldn't get the bothered feeling from leaving. His mind just kept wondering whether they started and were done or not.
Uncharacteristically, he found himself outside Naruto's door, trying hard to hear what was going on inside without making the blatantly obvious motions to do so. Mumbling was heard, but his pride wouldn't let him put his ear to the door to hear exactly what was being said.
Suddenly he heard the bouncing of a bed and ridiculous yelling of "Oh yeah," and "You like it, right Hinata?"
His eyebrow twitched.
Just as he turned to leave, he then heard, "I'm more fun, right?" which made him stop.
"Che." More fun my ass, he thought. It took great effort not to think of what the hell Naruto was doing to her. Or what she was doing to him.
When he suddenly heard the faint sound of something hitting a wall and Naruto saying, "Are you okay?" he burst through the door.
Sure, he was reluctant of what he might see, but he had been skeptical of the noises coming from the other side of the door the moment he could make out what was being said.
He was right to be skeptical. Naruto and Hinata were standing on the bed, fully clothed. Hinata was clutching her head whereas Naruto—turning from Hinata to look at Sasuke standing in the doorway—burst into laughter. As he fell down on his bed, Sasuke began to approach Hinata, mildly concerned. But upon seeing her beautiful smile, he stopped midway to her.
"He actually came in!" Naruto said, still laughing as he rolled off his bed onto the ground, clutching his stomach.
Sasuke finished making his way to the side of the bed and extended his hand to Hinata. "Let me see."
Her cheeks were pink but her smile remained due to Naruto's infectious laughter. Removing her hands from her head, she sat down on the edge of the bed and leaned her head toward Sasuke, who was in front of her. He took her head lightly in his hands and inspected it. Just a small bump, nothing serious.
He exhaled. Then he took her face in his hands and made her look at him. "Smile for me," he told her, seeing that it had disappeared. When it adorned her features again, he kissed her.
Once their lips met, it was as if all else around them was forgotten. Including Naruto. Hearing a make out session, Naruto picked himself up from the ground and made a face when he saw the two.
"Dude, Sasuke, this is my bed, you know," he said, in hopes they would stop.
But, as if in response, the two fell down on the bed, her hands on his chest, their lips still together.
"Jesus, I get it, you're a horny bastard. You can take her, just get off my bed!" he yelled dramatically.
Sasuke finally separated from her and looked up at Naruto, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. Then he glanced down at Hinata, whose face was flushed.
"That gross display has now made me lose the fire in my pants. You can leave now."
Smirking, Sasuke stood upright, took Hinata's wrist and led her out the room to his own.
Naruto rubbed the back of his head once they were gone. His first mission was successful—Sasuke actually burst through the door. But he had also expected to finally fuck Hinata afterward, to see what Sasuke saw in her.
"Damn it!"
After work, Sasuke and Naruto attended a congratulatory event for a coworker of theirs that won the promotion Sasuke had been striving for. It was there that Naruto learned today was Hinata's last day with them.
Naruto, angry that he didn't get to touch the prostitute that lived with them the entire week, drank his emotions down with glasses and glasses of alcohol. When he got drunk, Sasuke drove him home.
Hinata was watching television when Sasuke and Naruto came through the door. Naruto moved past Sasuke, stumbled over to Hinata, and sat beside her.
"Hi— Hinata!" he hiccupped, leaning uncomfortably close to her, causing her to move back slightly. She could smell the unpleasant stench of alcohol on his breath. "Fin— ally!" He grabbed her face and smashed his lips against hers.
He was holding her so forcefully that when she needed to breathe, she struggled to push him away. Suddenly, he was pushed off her by Sasuke.
"What are you doing?" Sasuke said harshly.
Glaring up at him, a sexually frustrated Naruto yelled, "Go away, you— you bastard!"
"Go to bed, Naruto."
"No!" He slurred, "You've been hogging her all week so now— now it's my turn."
Sasuke grabbed his arm before he could attempt to kiss Hinata again and forced him to his feet. Swinging his fist to push him away, Naruto pathetically missed, allowing Sasuke the chance to restrain him by grabbing his arms; however, Naruto put up a struggle. To stop him, Sasuke punched him hard across the face. Naruto was sent backward, fell to the floor on his stomach, then was motionless.
"Naruto," called Sasuke, worried that his friend hit his head on the small table he fell next to. "Naruto," he said again, as he quickly stepped beside the blonde man and turned him around to lie on his back.
Naruto started moving again. "I," he began, dazed, "need to… get laid."
Sasuke exhaled and Hinata could see his tense shoulders relax. Glancing back at her, Sasuke said, "Go to my room and wait for me."
She turned off the television and approached the two. "I can," she said hesitantly, "help him."
"No. You won't. Do as I say and go upstairs."
Still, considering she might not see him again, she kneeled down beside Naruto, opposite Sasuke, and pushed her hair to one side. She could feel Sasuke's stare on her as she leaned down and kissed Naruto on the cheek.
"Goodnight," she said softly. Naruto smiled, his eyes still closed, which made her smile in turn, albeit sadly. Then she stood up and left.
After he saw her disappear upstairs, Sasuke lifted Naruto up, put his friend's arm over his shoulder while his hand was around the man's waist, and helped Naruto to his room, letting him fall against the bed to sleep off his drunken state.
When he arrived in his own room, Hinata was sitting on his bed, twiddling her fingers on her lap. She looked up at him when she heard movement. He was taking off his shirt by his desk. Once he discarded the piece of clothing onto the back of the desk chair, he took off his pants.
Seeing him do so, she started undressing as well. But before she could take off anything, he stopped her with his hand.
Raising her chin so that her eyes met his, he said, "Do you want to?" He was giving her a choice. "If you don't want to then say it."
"…I want to."
The look in her eyes gave him an urge. Indulging in it, he leaned down and kissed her.
She parted from him first, but he moved before she could stop him to grab a condom. When he came back to her, she crawled back against the bed and he climbed over her.
"This will be the last time," he said.
In response, she wrapped her arms around his neck and raised her lips to meet his.
Neither of them wanted to pull away from the other.
He was staring up at the ceiling, fighting back this stupid sunken feeling in his chest, when he turned on his side, his back to her, and decided to break the silence in the dark room.
"Tomorrow," he said, "after you wake up, you can leave." It wasn't something he wanted to say, but her week was over. Their deal was done.
She herself was lying on her back, facing away from him. Her throat tight, she couldn't say, "Okay," as she would've. Having to leave tomorrow—after just getting used to living here—was beginning to sink in.
Silence passed for a moment before he heard the faint sounds of sniffling. Looking back over his shoulder, he could see the silhouette of her hand as she wiped her eyes.
"Hinata," he said, turning to rest on his back again. When she didn't move, he said, "What is it?" in a tone that demanded an answer.
"I," she said, her voice cracking, "I don't know."
"…Stop." It wasn't as harsh a command as he meant it.
I can't, she wanted to say. I'm sorry. Although she had only stayed with them for a week, Hinata would miss the two men… him especially. That she may never see him again was making her like this.
When he saw she wasn't calming down, he pulled her arm to tell her to come to him. She did so, turning over to rest her head in the crook of his neck, her arm against his chest. As he pushed her hair from her neck, she covered her eyes with her hand. He could feel her tears on his skin.
In time, her sniffles and tears subsided. After they did, when she was much calmer, she lifted her head and looked at him. His face was turned away, and with his eyes closed, she didn't know whether he had fallen asleep yet or not.
"Sasuke?" she whispered.
He said nothing. But, with his hand on her back, she felt his thumb caress her. Maybe he could still hear her say—
"Thank you." She kissed him softly on the cheek.
A week of blissful nights had ended when he entered hell once again.
All around him were fallen, mutilated bodies, pools of red liquid, dirt and darkness, knives and torn flesh. Where was that light? The angel that could stop all this? The one he met some days ago? The air was heavy and suddenly his skin was burning, peeling away when he rubbed his arms. The click of metal brought his attention to that which was ahead of him. A gun now between his eyes, a pull of the trigger—
Sasuke awoke with a start, drenched in sweat. The faint rays of morning glowed through his window. When he realized he was safe, he sat up. Everything was quiet. The only noise he could hear was his own breathing, which could only mean the space beside him was—
Empty. She was gone.
He placed a hand on the surface where she had slept.
It was cold.
The End
A/N:
And thus ends this story, my first lemon fanfic! So what did you think overall? Please let me know!
Anyway, thank you to all that enjoyed this. I didn't expect everyone's kind attention on this sort of idea.
I'm sure I could make this longer but this was originally supposed to be short so I'm keeping it short. I meant for this to be like a slice-of-life story where you only see a glimpse of a moment in time for SasuHina, who have crossed paths.
140907 Edit: If the ending didn't meet your fancy, or it did but you still want to read more, please check out the sequel recently posted on my profile.
