Demons are Worse
Chapter XI

Previously:

Mei-Hui didn't know what to think. She felt pain in her chest. Everything was painful. She couldn't move. To think that the tattoo did something bad to her. It nullified the vampire weapon's effects and changed it to normal bullets.

"Mei-Hui! Mei-Hui! Stay with me! Don't sleep now! Stay awake Mei-Hui! You're brother! I-I can feel him nearby! Damn it Mei-Hui stay awake!"

Mei-Hui smiled lightly with what little energy she had left. Her brother was here...but she was on the ground, dying. Rodrick...what would happen to Rodrick? She wouldn't even be able to meet her parents again. It was all funny actually. She just thought about them today. Earlier. When she wasn't dying. Mei-Hui could see Yuki, but in a blurry vision, beside her. Her thoughts moved on to two vampires...Shiki Senri and Aido Hanabusa while she fell to her sleep.

Slowly, more people appeared at the scene. All of them having a serious face on. Yuki was beside Mei-Hui, shivering from fright. Two of them dropped their serious face.

"Mei-Hui-chan?" Hanabusa said.

"Mei-Hui!" this black haired man ran over to Mei-Hui.

Everyone thought Zero shot Mei-Hui on purpose. From the looks of it. Hanabusa ran over to Zero and harshly pulled him up.

"You! What did you do!?" Ice was creeping up Zero's uniform.

Zero's face hardened. He didn't say anything.

Senri knew he didn't like Zero, but this was a bit too far for him. Yuki looked at this new man next to her. Kaien walked over to Zero. Kaname's eyes narrowed.

"Mei-Hui! Mei-Hui, stay with me! Tch." The new man carried Mei-Hui in his arms, tears were pricking his brown eyes. "Oi, Kaien! Get me a room damnit!"

Kaien was stopping Hanabusa from killing Zero while picking up Bloody Rose. "We have a medical bay near my office. Let's get her there now! Kaname, I leave the rest to you for now." Kaien ran after the man with Mei-Hui.

Kaname nodded and looked at everyone. He first went up to Yuki, who looked up at him in fear. His eyes softened.

"Sorry...Yuki." Kaname made her fall asleep, he wasn't sure whether to erase her memories or not. "Aido, release him."

"Tch." Hanabusa dropped Zero on the ground.

"...I want you two to go back to class." Kaname told Hanabusa and Senri.

"..." They complied.

Zero looked at the ground, ashamed of himself. Never, never would he ever kill a human. But...if the bullets pierced Mei-Hui, that meant that she wasn't human...right? He stood up immediately to face Kaname. He glared at him, even after the events of him shooting Mei-Hui.

Kaname didn't say anything, but instead, turned around and walked the direction that Kaien went to, Yuki still in his arms. Zero didn't chase after him.

The man holding Mei-Hui was crying silent tears. He was running quickly over the stone ground, her blood dirtying his jacket. Kaien was hot on his tail, yelling directions to him. They made their way inside the building. The man kicked open the door and placed Mei-Hui on the bed. He immediately started to work, seeming to know some things about medical equipment. Kaien stumbled in, breathing hard.

"We need to stop the bleeding...it seems it didn't pierce through her body...the bullet must still be inside her..." Kaien said in between breaths.

The man was working his fastest, stripping Mei-Hui's clothes. Kaien came over, helping out as well, taking out bandage rolls, rubbing alcohol, and other items for a gunshot wound, not once fazed of Mei-Hui's stripped body. The man was working in trying to get the bullet out of Mei-Hui. When they noticed her breathing getting slower and slower, they were rushing even more. Kaname came in.

"...she's not going to live..." Kaname said.

Kaien looked at him. "You don't imply to mean that you can turn her into a vampire, are you, Kaname?"

The man looked at Kaname hard. "I will NOT let my sister be turned into a vampire!" He said hostily.

"Of course not..."

"Damn it! I knew I should have come earlier!" The man was still crying.

"If we do this right, she'll live." Kaien said to him.

"I know damn it! Adam, check Rodrick's condition!"

Kaien and Kaname looked at him, wondering who Adam was.

The man steadied his hands in taking the bullet out, Kaien giving Mei-Hui sedatives which were carefully measured out and pulled from a locked closet. The mood in the room was dreadful. Everyone was watching as the man was slowly pulling out the bullet, making sure it didn't drop. It seemed forever as the adrenalin kicked in, but in time, the bullet was pulled out. Kaien quickly acted and cleaned the wound, which was located above the upper left breast, above her heart. They applied pressure to stop the bleeding and placed a cream over the wound. The man then finished it with covering the wound, wrapping the bandage around her upper body.

Mei-Hui had an IV set up. She was sleeping with no shirt or bra covering her, just the bandages and the blanket. Her breathing was still as shallow as ever.

"She'll live." Kaien told him.

"I know that." He then looked over at Kaname. "You...don't you dare ever imply in changing a demon hunter into a vampire in front of another demon hunter. No, don't you ever dare imply that in front of their older brother ever!" The man's voice boomed in the room.

Senri and Hanabusa made their way to the class. When they opened the door, everyone stopped talking and noticed them entering. Not a single vampire noticed they were gone...with a few exceptions of course.

"Hanabusa, where were you?" Kain asked.

"...Just taking a walk." Hanabusa said.

"Shiki...what were you doing?" Rima asked.

"Nothing."

Rima tossed Senri the box of pocky he'd dropped.

"Thanks..." He said.

Senri took his place and ate his pocky at an unusually faster pace. Hanabusa was in a thinking pose. They both wondered when they were going to see Mei-Hui again, if they were going to see Mei-Hui again. Hanabusa didn't like this. He would have killed Zero, if it wasn't for Kaname. Senri didn't know exactly how he felt at the moment. He wasn't used to so many emotions coming at him at once.

"I did not mean to offend you." Kaname said.

"Hao-kun! Now is not the time to fight!" Kaien said.

"Shut up Kaien. Just...just..." The man named Hao composed himself again. "I apologize deeply. I know you must understand how I feel seeing my sister at Death's bed." Hao said to Kaname, his voice still slightly faltering.

Kaname didn't say anything...because he fully understood what the man named Hao meant.

The Next Day...

The day classes went by normally. Not many cared that one of the prefects was gone. Sayori asked the tensed Yuki what happened to Mei-Hui.

"Uhm...nothing...really. She's just...sick, that's all." Yuki feigned a smile to her friend.

Sayori wasn't amused by her best friend's lie. "Yuki...I've been your friend for a long time now, and even then, you choose to lie to me..."

Yuki was surprised that Sayori saw through her lie. "I-I-"

"She's in the medical bay near the Headmaster's office." Zero said.

"Z-Zero!" Yuki said in surprise with a hint of a scolding tone.

"Medical bay? Why would she be in the medical bay? Is it really that bad?" Sayori asked.

"Uhh...we can go check on her right after school?" Yuki suggested.

"Yes, we can." Sayori agreed.

Later...

The two opened the door to the medical bay that Mei-Hui was in. They opened the door, seeing Mei-Hui's body still in a, what they assumed to be, coma. Yuki was still in shock. Sayori had an indifferent face on.

"...Yuki...what exactly happened to Mei-Hui?" Sayori asked.

"I-I-I...don't really know." Yuki wasn't exactly lying, but she wasn't telling the whole truth either.

"This...an IV...I can see bandages on her shoulder. She must not be wearing anything over her bandages..." Sayori was making a mental note on what she saw, trying to conclude how Mei-Hui ended up like that.

"Who are you?" A voice said behind them.

They turned around to see a stranger. Yuki recognized him from last night, but his detailed features were a blur to her.

"Y-Y-You!" Yuki pointed to him.

"Yuki, do you know him?" Sayori asked.

"I asked who are you?" He asked them.

"Who are you?" Sayori questioned back. "You have no uniform, so you must not be a student." Sayori continued strongly.

"...Sun Hao. And that person on that bed is my younger sister. Now who are you two?"

"Wakaba Sayori. And Mei-Hui is my friend."

"Cr-Cross Yuki. Same here."

"You...your Kaien's adoptive daughter...Nice to meet you two...How has Mei-Hui been doing at Cross Academy?" Hao asked them.

"A quiet girl. Always does her work and is very different from Yuki here." Sayori said blankly.

"Y-Yori-chan! Ahem! Mei-Hui has uhh...she's good. And..." Yuki thought about Senri and Mei-Hui.

Hao was waiting for her.

"And she's great in all of her classes, especially Japanese, considering she's Chinese!" Yuki finished quickly.

Hao nodded his head in approval. "I see...thank you then. Please...watch over her for the time being." And Hao stepped out the room.

"Ah! But I have my duties as a prefect to attend to!" Yuki said in frustration. "I can't be here and there at once!"

"Yuki...I'm still here. I can watch over Mei-Hui."

"But Yori! What about curfew?"

"I'm sure you can make an exception. This is Mei-Hui, our friend." Sayori was making a point.

"I-alright..." Yuki agreed to her friend, but breaking rules wasn't really Yuki's forte.

They both never really expected for Mei-Hui to have an older brother though. Yuki now knew the reason why he suddenly came to Mei-Hui.

Yuki left the room to Sayori, attending to her business with the fangirls. Hanabusa and Senri noticed Mei-Hui wasn't around like usual. They were going to make plans for tonight.

Nightfall...

Yuki and Zero went on their respective routes. Sayori was still in the room watching over Mei-Hui, but she was about to leave the room when Senri came in.

"Shiki-senpai?" Sayori questioned.

Hanabusa stepped in after.

"Aido-senpai? What are you two doing here?" Sayori asked.

"We're here to see Mei-Hui-chan~!" Hanabusa said cheerfully.

"Hmm..." Sayori eyed Senri. "I have to go back to my dorm room now...if you'll excuse me." Sayori quickly left the room.

Senri and Hanabusa looked at Mei-Hui.

"Hmph! Why are you here, Shiki!" Hanabusa said, pointing a finger at Senri.

"You said 'we' came here to see Mei-Hui." Senri said.

Hanabusa paled at what Senri said. He remembered just moments ago he did say that.

"Whatever..." Hanabusa looked at Mei-Hui. He looked at her heartbeat meter and the IV. He then looked at the blanket that covered her body up to her neck.

Senri noticed it too.

The tension in the room sat for a while. The door creaked open. It was Hao. He eyed the two vampires.

"Who are you?" He questioned, very much like he did with Yuki and Sayori.

The two looked at him with the same curiousity.

"You...you were that man who carried Mei-Hui." Hanabusa stated.

"Yeah, what of it?" He retorted. "I asked 'who are you?'"

"Shiki Senri." Senri replied. "Who are you?" He asked the same question to Hao.

"Sun Hao." Hao's eyes narrowed slightly. "And you?" He looked back at Hanabusa.

Senri didn't seem all too shocked to hear that Hao was related to Mei-Hui. But Hanabusa was, and his face certainly showed it.

"Aido Hanabusa..." He replied reluctantly.

"So tell me...why are there vampires in my sister's room?" Hao asked.

The room's air was filled with tension once again.

"Hao..."

AN - I'm back~! And I feel so bad for being gone for waaaayyy too long. But hey, I'm considering transferring my stories over to my Quotev account, since I'm on that more...but it feels like too much of a hassle for me. Anyways, about the story, I just quickly read over this. This was written a year ago, but I never uploaded it until today. If I get enough motivation, I might actually continue this story. :)
