A/N Hi Guys sorry for the long wait for this one. I know my updates the last few months have been pretty crap (to say the least) but I promised I'd finish this story and I will, just not promising when exactly that will be I'm afraid. Although there really isn't a whole lot left to go in this one.

One Month Later

BPOV

I can't believe my baby boy is a month old today. I watch him walking around outside with Edward and sigh happily. I am preparing his lunch of donated human blood as I watch them through the massive wall of windows.

Edward is holding EJ's hand as they explore the garden together. He may only be four weeks old but EJ would easily pass for twelve months. He doesn't even walk like a small boy, he never toddled or crawled around he just simply stood up and walked a week ago.

He looks like a mini Edward, which makes me smile, although he has my human eyes. His copper hair is just as wayward and untameable as his fathers. I make my way out to them ''lunch time boys,'' I call out.

Edward picks EJ up and makes his way over and kisses me as EJ leans over with grasping hands for me to hold him. I take him from his fathers' arms as he eagerly drinks from his metal sippy cup that Rosalie made.

He hasn't spoken yet but I'm sure it's just a matter of a few days now the way he is developing, I try not to think of how fast he is growing up and how quickly he will be an adult. I wish he would stay my baby for a bit longer but I don't dwell on the 'what ifs' and just try to live in the moment and be thankful for my special little boy.

''What are you thinking, love?'' Edward is watching my face closely and he doesn't need his ability to know I'm feeling a little sad.

I shrug, ''just wishing I could freeze time right now.''

Edward hugs me in understanding but says nothing as we are certain that although EJ cannot speak he can definitely understand every word we say. As demonstrated by Emmett when he told him about hunting. We were plagued for days of the images he had in his head from Emmett's exaggerated stories of bears and mountain lions.

The only sounds he has made so far are when he cried once when Jasper didn't feed him fast enough for his liking and on the numerous occasions he has belly laughed at Emmett's ridiculous antics. I could listen to my baby laugh for the rest of eternity.

''You know we should really think about taking him on his first hunting trip,'' Edward muses as he watches EJ drain his cup.

I look at him if he has gone insane. ''What? No way Edward, he is just a little baby. What if he gets hurt?'' I squeeze EJ to me tightly thinking of him facing off against a grizzly. I almost shudder at the thought.

Edward chuckles but stops quickly when he sees my expression. ''Come on Bella, how could he possibly get hurt? He is stronger than any animal out there.'' I just huff.

EJ finishes his lunch and hands his cup to Edward before turning to face me and placing his little hand on my cheek. He shows me images of himself running after huge bear and, the tone of his thoughts is of pure excitement. I want to growl and tear off Emmett's head.

I look down into EJ's pleading little face and my will crumbles. I know this has to be done and deep inside I know he won't be hurt, but this is yet another sign that he is growing up too fast. I sigh, ''fine we can go hunting tomorrow.'' I hear a cheer from inside followed by a groan when I quickly add, ''just us, I don't want any distractions while we are teaching him how to hunt. We can't have him running off on his own if we get distracted.''

EJ is beyond delighted and squeals happily while he claps his hands then wiggles down so he can go and 'share' his news with the rest of the family. Well those of the family who are present as Jasper and Alice are on patrol this evening, hunting for Victoria.

Ever since the baby was born and we have gotten into a somewhat normal routine the family have gone back to helping the wolves search for Victoria, Laurent and whoever the mystery vampire may be. I do my best not to think about it as she hasn't been spotted for a long time, ever since that faint scent was picked up months ago. Hopefully this means she has gone and we won't be seeing her again.

There was a bit of panic last week when another vampire scent was picked up in the woods that nobody recognised but as Alice didn't see anyone come to the house it was decided that it must have been a nomad just passing through as they didn't come anywhere near us.

Early the following morning once EJ is up and dressed we are ready to take him on his first hunt. It was difficult to dress him as he wouldn't sit still he was so excited. It was only after I tore his third shirt trying to put it on his wiggly body that Edward told him sternly that if he didn't calm down and let his mommy dress him that he wouldn't be allowed to go with us. The threat along with the strict look from his father had him calmed down immediately, Edward rarely had to reprimand him as he was such a well behaved little boy but sometimes his excitement got the better of him. Emmett has the same problem.

With EJ perched atop Edwards' shoulders we run deep into the forest where I had my first hunt. Edward is also thinking of that memorable occasion as he looks at me and winks, causing me to giggle.

When EJ is placed on his feet he wants to run straight into the forest to begin hunting without even knowing what he is doing. Reading his mind Edward grabs him, ''now son you have to wait, be patient.''

EJ sighs but must agree silently as Edward puts him back on his feet and kneels in front of him as he places his large hands on his sons' shoulders.

''Now, what do you hear?''

EJ looks beyond cute when he cocks his little head to the side as he listens. He puts his small hand to Edwards' cheek, even though Edward can read his mind just fine.

''That's right, good boy'' Edward praises him. ''Ok, now what can you smell?''

I want to chuckle when EJ raises his little nose in the air and sniffs a little then scrunches his nose in distaste. I, of course, have already caught the scent of various animals around us, varying from the small rodents to the herd of deer not too far away. I wonder which of these animals has caused EJ offence.

''Yes son, there are lots of different scents. Just pick whichever one appeals to you the most and follow it,'' Edward says encouragingly. He is so good and patient with him. I hope he picks a rabbit or a fox or some other small creature, I don't want him battling with a big deer or god forbid a mountain lion on his first hunt. What if he isn't as strong as everyone believes him to be?

Just as I am about to call this whole charade off Edward lets go of his shoulders and tells him to follow the scent.

''We will be right behind you son.''

Then there is no time to change our minds as EJ is off like a bullet after whatever scent it was that took his fancy. We follow him easily as he races through the forest for a few minutes until he slows down and starts to creep up an embankment. I want to groan when I catch the scent of what he is after. Damn Emmett and his stories. I look over at Edward and I'm horrified to see he is grinning at me. When he sees my expression he simply mouths to me ''don't worry love, Alice said he'll do fine.'' I just roll my eyes.

Once EJ clears the top of the embankment he shoots forward and Edward and I peek over the top to see him in action. He wastes no time as he dives straight for the bear's throat. If I had a heart I'm sure it would stop right now. I am about to go after him to help when Edward holds me back gently with his hand on my arm. I look at him.

''Just trust him love.'' He says with his eyes still riveted to his little boy, a look of unconcealed pride on his face.

When I look back I see the bear's body has gone lax already from blood loss and EJ is lying on his chest as he drinks from his throat. Once he is done he jumps off the bear and looks over to us, beaming. Now we make our way over to him and he jumps into my arms to show me what he has done. The images he shows me are of him attacking the huge animal and how he liked the taste of his blood. He didn't like the smell of the others too much but he likes this one.

Emmett will be delighted with this news.

I look down to see his clothes are still cleans and intact and look up when I hear Edward laughing. ''Much better than your first hunt I'd say.''

I just smirk and am push him playfully. Edward comes closer again, still laughing, and is just about to kiss me when he freezes and his eyes go wide.

''Wha..'' I stop mid question when I pick up the foreign scent only half a second after Edward. EJ picks up the scent too but stays quiet and still when he sees his parents' reaction to the unfamiliar smell.

Vampire.

I hold EJ close to me as Edward steps in front of us in a low protective crouch. I am terrified but tell myself there is only one of them and two of us, even though I won't be much good in a fight as I have to protect my baby. He may be able to kill a bear but my little baby would be no match for an adult vampire.

I still haven't seen the vampire but I know they are close, very close.

''Show yourself,'' Edward says quietly, ''we don't want any trouble.''

It's a female voice that answers ''then why are you crouched that way?''

''I am protecting my family against an unknown vampire. What do you want?''

''Just curious,'' the tone of the voice sounds like it came with an offhanded shrug from its owner.

Then the woman comes out into the edge of the little clearing we are in. She has dark brown hair and looks like she was in her forties maybe when she was changed. Her bright red eyes tell me she is still a young vampire which immediately puts me on alert as she may be unpredictable. I know I too am a young vampire but all the Cullen's agree that I am somewhat a 'freak' in the vampire world as I have been well able to control my emotions and bloodlust from the moment I was changed.

''Who are you?'' Edward asks while still crouched in front of us. As he asks this I think I get a flash of recognition. I feel like I have seen this woman before, but where? Definitely not since I've been changed because I would remember. The feeling of knowing her from somewhere is disconcerting. I try to tell myself maybe she just looks like somebody I used to know.

Her face scrunches up a little as if she is trying to remember. ''I'm not sure, I don't really remember much from before.''

Well, to that I can definitely relate as other than EJ I really can't remember much from my human life either. Rosalie said it's possible to retain some memories if you try hard not to forget them. Alice of course remembers nothing at all. I have a few fuzzy memories of who I think was my father, Charlie, Edward told me his name was. I remember a little about the wolves and a lot about my pregnancy but that's it really other than small flashes of my childhood here and there.

I am pulled from my musings by a ferocious growl from Edward. I pull EJ to me as he has made a frightened little yelp in surprise at his fathers' growl. I can only imagine that Edward has read something in her mind that has made him react in this way.

The female looks taken aback at first but then drops into a crouch of her own, snarling.

''I know what you are thinking,'' Edward seethes ominously, ''and it's never going to happen.''

She looks shocked at this, then terrified. He still hasn't made a move towards her but he hasn't taken his eyes off her either. ''Yes run. Run fast and far because when I find you I am going to end you,'' he snarls again.

With no little amount of fright in her eyes she runs backwards into the forest and disappears, knowing better that to turn her back on an angry vampire.

Once Edward is sure she is gone he stands and turns to face us. ''Edward what is going on?''

''She's working for Victoria.'' Is his blunt reply.

I pull EJ so close I'm afraid I'm hurting him but when I look down I see that he is clinging to me tightly with his face pressed into my chest. I rub my hand through his hair. ''Ssh baby, its ok. She's gone now,'' I try to sooth him and myself at the same time.

''Come we have to go home, now.'' I hold onto EJ as we race home as Edward is on full alert of our surroundings. He wants his arms free in case he needs to defend us. To say I'm scared would be an understatement, not for myself but for my baby who is still buried in my chest. Without realising it his hands wrapped around my neck are feeding me images of the 'scary' woman. He was terrified of her. When I see how much she scared my little bot I want to turn around, hunt her down and rip her to shreds.

It doesn't take us long to get home and when we do Edward calls Alice to come home straight away from her patrolling, and to bring Sam with her. The call is a short one. Once we have been in the safety of our own home for a few minutes EJ finally allows me to peel him off me. We explain quickly what happened and Rosalie takes him and cradles him like he's a new born. He allows her to comfort him while showing her his thoughts on the woman.

While we are waiting for Alice Edward seems to be avoiding telling me something. I know him well enough to know when he is hiding something.

''Edward what is it?''

''Nothing.'' He answers too quickly and barely looks at me.

I go to stand in front of him with my hands on my hips and give him the 'tell me now' look.

He sighs and relents, ''she lied.''

I frown, ''who? The woman? About what?''

''Her name. When I asked her she said she didn't remember but she was lying.''

Edward stops and I but I want him to tell me, ''so, what's her name?'' From the look on his face I know I'm not going to like his answer.

Edward takes an unnecessary breath and blows it out without answering me.

I'm getting frustrated now and I'm about to demand he answers me when I have a small flash of memory. I rifle through my few fuzzy memories. After all I did think she looked familiar…then it hits me.

Holy. Crap.

The female vampire is my mother.

A/N Sooo…there you have it guys. What did you think of the twist? Did anyone see it coming? Review and let me know what you think.
