CHAPTER 19:
RECAP:
"Thantin's are here… I think…" I trailed off a moment and gazed at the images a little longer, "I think they want to help."
"Help? Why? We almost killed all of them."
There was a loud huff noise and another scratch on the ground, this one angrier.
"I'm not sure why exactly, I assume they're appreciative and probably have the same problem as we do." I pointed to the markings, "The man with the sticks on his head is a Wraith, the sticks are their hair. I think they want them dead as much as we do. And the triangles, I think they're-"
"Darts…" Weir cut me off to finish my sentence. "We greatly accept and appreciate any and all help you can give. I only wish I could communicate further or help you in some way."
We watched as another marking was drawn on the wall before we heard the thundering of hundreds of loud prints on the ground.
"It's a happy face," Weir smiled and pointed to the final drawing.
"Hah, awesome."

"Are you kidding me?! This is amazing!" John's joy rang through my earpiece as I told him the news of the Thantin's arrival.
"How do they keep getting on Atlantis?" Silence answered my question.
I rolled to the entry and peeked out into the hallway on my wheely chair hoping to see something cool, but nope, still invisible things attacking ugly things.
"Claire, get back in here!" Rodney called to me from the control room.
"What?" I rolled back and slid to a halt in front of the main control hub. "What's the damage?"
"I need you to transfer power from the western pier teleporters to the northern pier, we've got a team stuck there."
"Roger that!" I rolled to the next hub and typed away, transferring power to the vulnerable part of the city for only long enough to get our men back to a sheltered area before flipping the power back. No point in wasting good power on a lost part of the city!
"Claire," Dr. Weir turned to me, "you're good in the linguistics department, right? Can you get a message to the Thantin's?"
"Linguistics, not Pictionary!"
She frowned.
"I mean, yes, I'll do my best. What d'you want to say?"
"Tell them about the northern pier. John hasn't checked in yet, maybe they need help." She faced the window and tapped her earpiece again, "John, John are you there?"
I tapped my own earpiece, "John? Ronon? You guys good?"
Silence.
I winced as I rolled to the hallway and listened for the Thantin's. Just as I reached the doorframe, there was a loud snarl, followed by a howl and a loud smash. Moments later, a trio of Wraith stormed around the corner.
I rolled silently back and motioned for a gun.
Dr. Weir handed one to me and silently pulled out her own. We opened fire the instant the wraith came into view.
"I really wish they were easier to kill!"
"Just keep shooting!" Dr. Weir yelled back. "Rodney, radio Major Lorne, with any luck he's close by!"
"On it!" Rodney tapped his earpiece and called out to Lorne. "Lorne! Come in Lorne, we need back-up in the control room! I repeat, back-up in the control roo- AAAHHH!" Rodney fell to the ground, clutching his leg.
"Rodney!" I shouted just before a wraith kicked the chair out from under me and grabbed me by the throat.
Dr. Weir adjusted her aim and fired the arm that held me.
The wraith dropped me and recoiled, without hesitation it hissed and rounded on Dr. Weir. Just as we were really starting to panic there was a loud and vicious roar and it was tackled to the ground.
"Thantin's!" I cheered from my spot on the floor. I'm assuming more rushed in because the control room got louder and louder, wraith were being mauled, and chairs were flying for no visible reason. "Yess!"
My happiness and excitement broke when I heard a loud yelp and very large body hit the ground. What I saw nearly broke my heart.
Lorne rounded the corner and killed the third and final wraith, then stood in awe as his eyes fell on the Thantin's body.
I crawled towards the beast, it was beautiful. It's six legs were curled up against it's body, wraith flesh dangled from between its claws and wraith blood dribbled from its lips. Its massive jaw relaxed under its dark red, dog-like nose.
"Claire, I know all you want to do right now is examine it but think of your brother here!" Dr. Weir called from the floor across the control room.
"R-right," I stuttered, "uhm, I really, truly, hate myself for even asking you this right now," I glanced in the direction I thought the remaining Thantin's stood, "hell, I don't even know if you can understand me-"
"Claire!"
"Right. My brother, he's-"
I was cut short when my earpiece buzzed, "Aahh!"
"What about your brother?"
"JOHN! Where have you been?! Why haven't you answered! Is Ronon with you? Is he ok?"
"Slow down natter, we're both fine. Is Weir with you?"
"Yea, I'll patch her in." I nodded to Dr. Weir.
She tapped her earpiece, "John, I'm listening."
"The wraith seem to be retreating. Any ideas?"
"Thantin's." I smiled.
"Thantin's?" John repeated, "How did they get here?"
"Not a clue," Weir glanced at the body, "but now we know what they look like."
"Ya!" I'm so excited right now, "Turns out they become visible once they're dead! And they-."
"Claire, don't forget to breathe. I can hear you hyperventilating from here."
"But!-"
I stopped talking when I heard a scratch on the ground beside me and felt a push on my shoulder; it felt almost like being nuzzled by a really, really, really big dog. I smiled and stretched an arm out, to try and make contact, but it was gone. I think Dr. Weir, Rodney, Major Lorne, and I noticed it at the same time: the windy sound as they breathed and the scratch of their claws on the floor was gone. They were all gone.
"Well, that was weird." Lorne stared at the body and then gazed around the room, "Just gone, POOF!"
"Rodney, work on repairing the shield," Dr. Weir went back into Terminator mode, "the wraith may come back."
"Right." He grabbed the hub and pulled himself up, blood soaking through his pant leg.
"Claire, make your way to the infirmary and get some gauze for Rodney's leg. If there's an available doctor, send them here."
"But," I stared at the body, "what about-"
"We'll deal with it later." She tapped her earpiece and turned away, "John, Thantin's are gone and we believe they're what made the wraith leave. With them out of the picture, the wraith may come back. Update me."
"Gone." I moped, "Sucks… they were so badass!"
"Well," said Rodney, "at least with them gone you won't feel insensitive about taking blood and skin samples from the dead body on the floor."
"True."
