Chapter 5:

Birds were singing as the sun shines at the horizon to signal a new day to the people of Odaiba.

At one sidewalk, Davis and Veemon, who was sitting on his partner's shoulder, were walking to Odaiba High while the brunet was humming to a certain tune that he made during his journey.

The walk was very uneventful and they separated with Veemon going to the school field to do his own things while Davis headed to his locker to put away his backpack and get his books before heading to his classroom before the first bell rang.

When he got there, he found that he was the only one there and decided to make some use of his lonely time.

The brunet puts his books on his desk and reaches into the back of his belt that had a deck pouch strapped onto it.

He pulls out a deck of cards that was green on one side with the words 'CARD GAME' written and it possess multiple different pictures and descriptions at the other side.

Davis sits down at his chair and starts shuffling through the deck, sorting them by type, power, ability and so on.

He did this for a long time, making up a combination using a certain group of cards then changing them to make a different combination and continued doing this until the bell rang, forcing him to quickly keep his cards back into his deck pouch before anyone saw them.

Kari, TK and Ken sat down at their usual seats and were about to talk to Davis but fortunately for the former Digidestind, the teacher arrive a little earlier than usual and started class just as early.

While Davis was being bored to death at class, Veemon was busy training himself by jumping from one tall vantage point to the next while doing intricate aerobatics at each jump.

But looking from the window at the computer lab were the Digidestind's digimons, watching in awe at Veemon's performance.

"Wow, I never thought Veemon could do such amazing jumps" Patamon commented as they watch said dragon doing a double back flip from a tree next to the entrance of the school to the tree below the computer lab window.

"Even I'm impressed that he could do these things considering that he's a rookie" Gatomon mused, watching the blue dragon wall walking from his current position to a nearby tree.

They continue to watch the spectacle until they suddenly notice three people standing at the front gate of Odaiba High.

When they took a closer look at the trio, they saw that two of them were Takato and Guilmon but the third person was a red haired girl with her hair tied into a spiky ponytail and lavender eyes wearing a leather jacket over a blue T-shirt and a pair of jeans.

"Hey, isn't that one of Davis' friends over there?" Armadillomon asked no one in particular as they all watch the group talk about something.

A moment later, the trio walks into the school grounds while looking around as they aimlessly wonder.

They only took a few steps before Veemon jumps out of the tree he was in and lands in front of them.

"Hiya Takato, Guilmon and Rika, what are you guys doing here?" the blue dragon asked.

"We were doing our patrols and Gogglehead over here wanted to have a look around Odaiba High, just for fun" the red head, Rika, said as she playfully slaps the brunet's shoulder.

"Well, right now everyone is in class so let me guide you guys around the place but remember; visitors and digimons are not allowed inside the classroom during classes" Veemon instructed before turning on his heels and walking off into the school with company in tow.

Back to Davis, after a long and boring half day of classes; the lunch bell finally rang signaling the lunch break and the brunet picked up his things before leaving the classroom to go to his locker to keep away his books before heading off to the cafeteria.

But as he was stuffing his things inside his locker, he was interrupted by a tapping on his shoulder.

Turning around to see who was disturbing him, he saw that it was Rika, who was standing next to Takato, Guilmon and Veemon.

"Eh, Rika, Takato, Guilmon, what are you guys doing here?" Davis asked his Tamer friends while slamming the locker door shut.

"Gogglehead here wanted to come and have a look around the place, being the huge Digimon fan he is" Rika answered jabbing a thumb at the brunet Tamer.

"Hey, can you blame me? All those fans back at our dimension would kill for a chance to come to this dimension and meet the Digidestind and go to the places they saw on TV" Takato retorted.

The redhead just rolled her eyes at her fellow Tamer and opened her mouth to counter but was cut off by someone.

"Davis!" the person called out and the group turned towards the source to see the Digidestind and their digimons walking towards them.

Davis groaned loudly at the sight of his former teammates, which caught the attention of both Tamers.

"Still mad at your old teammates?" Rika asked with concern in her voice.

"It's not that I'm mad at my old team, I stopped being mad at them a long time ago. It's just that I haven't forgiven them, that's all" the former Digidestind leader admitted as his old team stopped in front of them.

"Hey Davis, want to sit with us in the cafeteria?" Tai asked his former protégé.

"I'm sorry Tai, but I'm going to hang out with my friends here" Davis said gesturing to Rika, Takato and Guilmon.

It was only now that the Digidestind and their digimons notice the trio that was standing in front of them.

"Hi, my name's Takato Matsuki and this is my partner Guilmon, while this fiery beauty is Rika Nonaka and her partner is Renamon, who is god knows where" Takato introduced to them.

"Nice to meet you guys, we're the Digidestind-" Sora started before getting cut off.

"No need to introduce yourselves, Davis had told us everything about you guys" Rika said rudely while glaring at TK, Yolei, Kari and their digimons.

"Rika that was not-" Takato scolded but was cut off when girl with long raven hair and emerald green eyes behind a pair of black square glasses wearing the Odaiba High girls uniform, carrying a stack of books accidentally slips on something and was falling backwards onto the floor.

Both Takato and Davis jumped straight into action with the Tamer of Hazard being closes to the falling girl, quickly slips his arm behind her to keep her from falling while the other brunet slides onto his knees and caught the stack of books before they hit the floor.

"Hey, are you okay?" Takato asked as he bends down to check if there any injuries.

"I-I-I… Um… Y-Yes, I'm f-fine" the girl stuttered, blushing at how close their faces were.

"Really? Thank goodness you're alright" the Tamer of Hazard sighed in relief before charming smile grace his face, which was too much for the bespectacled girl and she fainted in his arms.

"Takato, I think your Matsuki charm just knocked that girl unconscious" Davis commented as he got to his feet with the books still in his hands.

"That seems happen everywhere I go. I blame you for this, Davis" the younger brunet complained before carrying the dark haired girl bridal style and heading off to the nurse's office with Davis leading the way and Rika and their digimons following closely.

"What? It's not my fault that girls are falling head over heels all over you!" Davis snapped as the group disappears into the crowd.

The Digidestind and their digimons, who were still standing at the same place from the beginning of the conversation, just stared at the direction of the smaller group had left through, all wondering what the two goggled boys were arguing about but none of them notices something shifting inside the Tamer of Hazard's shirt.

After the small group had dropped off the unconscious girl at the nurse's office, they bought some snacks before walking out into the school courtyard to relax but Rika seemed a little annoyed for some reason.

This did not go unnoticed by the crimson eyed Tamer next to her and he asked "Rika, what's wrong? You seemed annoyed".

"Of course I'm annoyed, Gogglehead! That girl was like the seventh or eighth girl to winked, blushed or fainted at the sight of you!" Rika shouted in irritation and anger.

"Come on, Rika, you can't honestly be jealous?" Takato asked with an incredulous look on his face but from seeing the girl look away with the annoyed look still on her features, he let out a frustrating sigh.

"Rika, please don't be like that. How many times to I have to tell you, there's no one else that I have my eyes on other than you" he reassured her as he snakes his arm around her waist and pulls her close to him.

Rika breaths out a sigh of relief a small smile formed on her face as she rests her head on her boyfriend's shoulder and said "Sorry about that Takato, it's just that I don't like it when girls other than our Tamer friends try to get a little too close to you".

"I understand, Rika, I feel the same way when guys try to hit on you" Takato admitted.

"Yeah but you didn't have to worry so much about a guy trying something on me since basically every guy in our dimension is more terrified facing your wrath than the girls are at facing mine" Rika countered with a smirk on her face.

The only replied she received was a nervous chuckled as her boyfriend rubbed the back of his head while a goofy grin, which revealed a set of slightly long razor sharp canines, was on his face.

"You got a point there Rika…".

"Hey, you two done arguing? 'Cause I want to eat before school ends" Davis teased with his hands on his hips as he stands under the shade of big tree.

The couple shrugs their shoulders and sits down by the tree with their friend along with their partners before the humans took out some food that they brought with them.

Rika and her partner Renamon, a tall yellow and white fox with piercing azure eyes wearing a pair of purple gloves that had the yin yang symbol on the back of the hands and it reached up to her elbows, were eating a couple of tuna sandwiches at a calm pace while to their left, Davis and Veemon were both eating their own curry bun happily but as for Takato and Guilmon, they were eating a lot of burgers that the Tamer of Hazard had somehow managed to stuff into his jacket.

The group ate while talking to each other about random things until Davis said "Hey Takato, I still can't believe that you're dating Rika. I remember the first time you two met, Rika was the cold-hearted Ice Queen that kept making Renamon fight Guilmon and always throwing insults about how bad you were at being a Tamer while you were the gogglehead that kept doubting himself. I thought for sure though that you would be dating Jeri".

"You weren't the only one that couldn't believe it Davis, when we told everyone; their jaws almost hit the floor!" Takato laughed, just finished eating a burger then taking another one out from his jacket.

"Dude, how big is that jacket?!" the former Digidestind exclaimed after seeing the Tamer of Hazard take out nearly twenty burgers from his jacket for him and Guilmon to eat.

The only answer he got was a shrug as he, Rika and their digimons sat and watch the Hazard duo continue to eat.

Not that far away from the small group, the Digidestind was sitting at a picnic table having lunch with their digimons.

"Hey look, it's Davis and he's with Takato and Rika" Mimi said attracting the other Digidestind's attention towards the group she was looking at.

"You're right but who's that fox sitting next to Rika?" Izzy asked no one in particular.

"Oh, that's a Renamon. Their hard to find since they relatively like to hide in the shadows and observe people but their very strong fighters" Gatomon explained.

"Then she must be Rika's partner that Takato mentioned earlier" Mimi mused but the conversation was cut short when someone shouted "Watch out!".

The Digidestind turn their heads to source of the voice in time to see a baseball flying towards the smaller group, more specifically Rika, who seemed to not be paying any attention.

They were about call out another warning but it was too late as the baseball was about to come in contact with the red haired girl's head…

When a crimson blur came out of nowhere and swat the ball away.

Shocked, the first thing that popped up in the Digidestind's minds was that Guilmon had jumped in and swatted the ball away but when they took a closer look, they saw that the saurian was still where he had been ever since the smaller group had sat down, too far away for him to reach the red head in time.

But then they saw it, a long crimson dragons tail hovering just above the ground but what was more shocking was that the tail did not come from any of the digimons there, instead it leads to the back of Takato's jacket while the boy in questioned was still eating his burger at a leisurely pace like nothing happened.

Upon finishing his burger, Takato balled up the wrapper and stuffed it in his jacket to throw away later and turned to his girlfriend with a worried look on his face before asking "Rika, are you okay? The baseball didn't hit anything did it?" as the tail snakes around the red head form, as if it was checking for any injuries.

"Don't worry Takato, I'm fine" Rika reassured her boyfriend, making him sigh in relief before the tail slides into his jacket and away from sight but the Digidestind had already saw everything and to say that they were shocked was an understatement.

But before their shock could settle, Davis said something that brought their interest.

"Wow Takato, your tail looks longer than the last time I saw it! That reminds me, how's your 'condition' changed these past two years?" he said, looking around before saying the word 'condition'.

Takato let out an annoyed sigh before replying "Honestly Davis, from all the tests the Monster Makers had done; not good. They haven't found anything to solve it but thankfully they said that it's been slowing down lately".

"That's both something I did and did not want to hear" Davis said before the bell rang, signaling the end of the lunch break.

"Well, it looks like lunch is over. How about you guys come by after school and we can hang out for a bit?" he asked the couple, who both agreed on the idea before they left with their digimons to go back to their patrols while the former Digidestind went back inside to go for his next class.

Meanwhile, back at the Digidestind and their digimons, they were getting up to go to their classes but the memory of the Tamer of Hazard's tail was still on their minds.

Later that day, the final bell rang in Odaiba High and students were leaving the building in groups to enjoy the remainder of the day.

As Davis walks out of the front gates with his backpack sling on one shoulder while Veemon stood on the other, he came to the sight of Takato and Rika standing at the sidewalk talking to each other while Guilmon was watching the students passing by, alone since Renamon was hiding nearby.

"Hey guys!" Davis called out to his Tamer friends as he cross the street to meet them.

"Hey, Davis" Takato replied as Guilmon waved while Rika nodded her greeting.

"Let's go my house for me to get change and then we can go hang out" with that, the group left to the former Digidestind's apartment, continuing their chat from lunch.

Soon the group reaches the apartment building and used the elevator to go to the floor of Davis' apartment.

They enter the apartment using Davis' key and walk inside after closing the door and taking off their shoes.

"My parents aren't home like usual, so make yourselves at home while I go change out of this boring uniform" Davis said before disappearing into his bedroom as Veemon jumps of his shoulder and stayed in the living room.

A moment later, Davis came back out of his room wearing a dark blue jersey with a blue line across the chest, a pair of light grey shorts with a brown belt that had his two digivices clipped on the right of his hip and the deck pouch strapped on the left of his lower back and his goggles around his neck like usual.

Walking into the living room, Davis found that his Tamer friends and partner were not there and went to the kitchen to see if they were there.

The sounds of someone checking the cupboards reached the goggled boy's ears and just as he thought, the others, along with Renamon, were in his kitchen with Takato was searching the cupboards for ingredients to make something.

"Yo, guys. What 'cha doing in the kitchen?" Davis asked, walking into the kitchen.

Takato looked up and explained "Oh, hey Davis. We got kind of hungry and I thought of cooking for everyone but you don't have any ingredients for me to bake anything and I'm not very good at cooking anything other than pastries".

"I see, well good thing for you guys; I know and can cook all kinds of food. I'll cook and you can help me, Takato since you have the second most cooking experience among us" Davis said with a smile as he searches the kitchen for cooking utensils and started cooking lunch with Takato.

There will be moments in this story were Davis and the other teams mentions moments during their adventure together but are going to be vague. I'm going to make a side story called 'A Chance to Change: The Two Year Journey' that will explained everything.
